2017 Jayco Travel Trailer Eagle

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Jayco Designer, 2017-2021 Eagle HT, Eagle, Jay Feather, Jay Flight SLX, Jay Flight, North Point, Octane Superlite, Pinnacle, White Hawk, 2017-2020 Eagle HT, 2018-2021 Jay Flight Bungalow, 2017-2019 Octane, and 2019-2020 Eagle HTX travel trailers and fifth wheels equipped with a Winntec model 6020 two-stage propane regulator. The regulator may fail, causing an increase in propane pressure.

Risk. Increased propane pressure can enlarge the flames in gas appliances, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the regulator and test the propane system for leaks, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 3, 2021. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267.

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017, 2018 Eagle 333BHOK (EC) travel trailers. The safety chains on these vehicles are rated at 11,700 lbs, however the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 12,500lbs. In the event of a trailer detachment, the underrated safety chains may fail.

Risk. If the safety chains fail in the event of a detachment, the trailer would separate from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will install safety chains that have a GVWR of 16,200lbs, free of charge. The recall began on February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901372.

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2017 Eagle fifth-wheel recreational vehicles equipped with the dry camping option. In the affected vehicles, the LP manifold was mounted to the fifth wheel frame directly above the axle assembly and the suspension U-bolts. Impact from the axle can crack the LP manifold resulting in a propane gas leak.

Risk. An LP gas leak can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will relocate the LP manifold, and inspect and replace the LP lines and fittings, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 24, 2017. Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2017 Eagle fifth wheel trailers, model 355 MBQS, manufactured October 7, 2016, to October 11, 2016. The affected vehicles may have an axle of insufficient load capacity.

Risk. If the axle is overloaded, excess tire wear may result, possibly causing tire failure and an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy. All of the affected trailers have been quarantined at dealers and therefore owner notification letters will not be sent. Jayco dealers will replace the 6000lb capacity axle with a 7000lb capacity axle, including new rims and tires and will install updated Federal ID, and Cargo Carrying Capacity labels, free of charge. Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jay Feather, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, Eagle, White Hawk, and Octane travel trailers manufactured January 5, 2016, to July 18, 2016, equipped with a Sway Command anti-sway system. When connected to certain tow vehicles that have an integrated brake controller, and after the anti-sway system has applied the trailer brakes in response to a sway event, the trailer brakes may no longer function to slow or stop the trailer.

Risk. A loss of trailer brakes may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will remove the Sway Command system from the affected travel trailers, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901308.

I'm smelling propane at the regulator between the two propane tanks. I'm told I should not be smelling any gas at all!

The contact owns a 2017 Jayco Eagle Trailer. The contact stated that there was an abnormal LP gas odor detected. The contact stated that the propane regulator was leaking. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign number 21V425000 (Equipment). The failure mileage was unknown.

THROUGH NORMAL USE OF THE JAYCO EAGLE HT 27.5RLTS, THE SIDEWALL TRIM PIECE BEGAN TO START SEPARATING FROM THE SIDEWALL WHEN THE WEIGHT OF THE UNIT WAS ON THE PIN-BOX. JAYCO IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE AS WELL AS THE UNDERLYING CAUSE. THE UNDERLYING ISSUE IS THE FACT THAT THEY USED SHEET METAL SCREWS INSTEAD OF 'STRUCTURAL' SCREWS DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS TO SECURE THE SIDEWALLS TO THE FRAME. THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THESE SHEET METAL SCREWS ALLOWED THE SIDEWALLS TO FLOAT ABOVE THE FRAME. THIS EXCESSIVE FLEX WOULD CAUSE A GAP OF 1/2' TO 3/4' BETWEEN THE SIDEWALLS AND THE LOWER TRIM PIECE. THE FIRST RESPONSE AND SUGGESTED SOLUTION WAS AS FOLLOWS: 'THERE IS ACTUALLY A KNOWN FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. THE SCREWS ORIGINALLY PUT INTO YOUR GOOSENECK TO HOLD THE TRIM ON WERE DEEMED TOO SHORT. THE FIX IS TO REPLACE WITH LONGER SCREWS TO BETTER HOLD THAT PIECE TO YOUR UNIT' ' WHAT THIS FAILS TO ADDRESS IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WHICH IS, THERE ARE SHEET METAL SCREWS INSIDE ABOVE THE MOLDING/ALUMINUM SKIN/PLYWOOD THAT HAVE FAILED. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A PIECE OF ANGLED STEEL WELDED TO THE FRAME WHICH THE ALUMINUM TUBING IN THE WALL SETS ON AND THERE IS ALSO AN AIRGAP BETWEEN THIS PIECE OF ANGLED STEEL AND THE PLYWOOD THE MOLDING SCREWS ANCHOR TO. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS REPAIR APPROACH IS THE HEAD OF THE SCREWS YOU USE WILL NEVER ACTUALLY BIND TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE MOLDING AND OVER TIME THEY ARE ALSO PRONE TO POTENTIAL FAILURE, BACKING OUT, OR COULD EVEN ADD ADDITIO

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JAYCO EAGLE HT28.5RSTS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE BEGAN TO EXPAND, WHICH ENLARGED THE TRAILER. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND ACTIVATED THE BUTTON TO HAVE THE TRAILER RETRACT; HOWEVER, IT TOOK A FEW ATTEMPTS BEFORE IT SUCCESSFULLY RETRACTED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. *BF *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JAYCO EAGLE 336FBOK MOUNTED ON A 2017 FORD F-350. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER TIRES SHEARED OFF AND CAUSED THE TRAILER TO COLLAPSE ON THE GROUND. THE CONTACT WALKED TO THE DEALER AND A MECHANIC FOLLOWED THE CONTACT TO THE FAILURE SITE. THE MECHANIC MOUNTED TWO TIRES IN ORDER TO MOVE THE TRAILER TO THE SHOP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLES WERE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE TRAILER. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED 7000IBS AXLES INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL 6000IBS AXLES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO REPLACE THE FAILED AXLES WITH ORIGINAL 6000IBS AXLES. THE CONTACT REJECTED THE OFFER AND THE TRAILER WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JAYCO EAGLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE WELDING OF THE FRONT JACK TO THE FRAME FRACTURED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT END OF THE TRAILER TO DROP WITHOUT WARNING. THE TRAILER WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 436.
