NHTSA campaign 16V772000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Suspension › Rear › Axle › Non-powered Axle Assembly

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 24, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 30. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2017 Eagle fifth wheel trailers, model 355 MBQS, manufactured October 7, 2016, to October 11, 2016. The affected vehicles may have an axle of insufficient load capacity.

The risk

If the axle is overloaded, excess tire wear may result, possibly causing tire failure and an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

All of the affected trailers have been quarantined at dealers and therefore owner notification letters will not be sent. Jayco dealers will replace the 6000lb capacity axle with a 7000lb capacity axle, including new rims and tires and will install updated Federal ID, and Cargo Carrying Capacity labels, free of charge. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901330.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V772000.
