Defect. Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America, Inc. (Isuzu) is recalling certain model year 2001-2013 Isuzu N-Series; model year 2001-2010 Chevrolet and GMC W-Series; model year 2001-2004 Isuzu FRR and model year 2001-2004 Chevrolet and GMC WT5500 trucks. The affected vehicles are equipped with an optional oil pan heater (RPO code IG3). Debris may collect at the contact point of the heater plug and the extension cord. This may cause overheating of the extension cord.

Risk. Overheating of the extension cord could melt the oil pan heater plug and/or block heater plug, resulting in an increased risk of fire.

Remedy. Isuzu will notify owners and dealers will inspect the trucks. The extension cord and damaged components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 30, 2013. Owners may contact Isuzu at 1-866-441-9638.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2002 ISUZU RODEO FROM FOX CHEVROLET ISUZU LOCATED AT 501 WASHINGTON BOULEVARD LAUREL, MARYLAND. IN 2004 THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR BUSINESS AND NAME TO FOX OF LAUREL BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM THIS LOCATION I CONTINUED TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THEM FOR SERVICE. I QUESTIONED WHETHER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE ,AND WAS ASSURED THAT THEY COULD CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY NO LONGER SOLD ISUZU CARS. ON JANUARY 23, 2007 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FOX OF LAUREL BECAUSE I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING FROM THE ENGINE, AND THE HEAT WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $872.71. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME HEAT PROBLEM AND RETURNED ON FEBRUARY 22, 2007 TO FOX OF LAUREL FOR REPAIRS AGAIN, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPAIRED, AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 72007 . AT THIS TIME I WAS INFORMED AND GIVEN A COPY OF THE WARRANTY BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF FOX LAUREL THAT I NEED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN ISUZU DEALER BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN ISUZU DEALER , CASTLE ISUZU, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED HEAD ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY THE AMOUNT THAT I WAS CHARGED BY FOX OF LAUREL SHOULD BE REFUNDED. I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS CALLS TO THE PRESIDENT OF FOX OF LALIN GALLART, WHO WILL NOT RESPOND OR RETURN MY CALLS. I BELIEVE I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OFF A

WE HAVE 6 ISUZU NPR LIGHT TRUCKS IN OUR FLEET. WE HAVE HAD THE SPIDER AND RING GEAR FAIL ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON EACH VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE FAILURES COME COMPLETELY UNEXPECTEDLY ( NO WARNING) AND THE VEHICLE IS IMMEDIATELYU DISABLED WHEREEVER IT MIGHT BE-EVEN IN THE FAST LANE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOOSES ALL POWER TO THE REAR AND CANNOT BE MOVED . THE COULD IMPEDE TRAFFIC ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND POTENTIALLY DISABLE THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. WE HAVE HAD OVER 8 FAILURES OF EXACTLY THE SAME PART ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT IDENTICAL VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WERE PURCHASES AT THE SAME TIME, HOWEVER IDENTICAL VEHICLE PURCHASES AT ANOTHER TIME DO NOT HAVE THIS FAULT. WE HAVE REPLACED EACH OF THESE PARTS AND THEY CONTINUE TO FAIL.*AK

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: Jun 19, 2013. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
