My front left drivers side door wouldnt close, I noticed the spot welds holding the door strap component in place had broke free and was now being pushed into the door shell. I took my car to the dealership and they said it is not covered. I have since looked on line, on how to repair this defect and see this is a known issue to the make and model year of my vehicle.

Vehicle would not shift out of park from a cold start. Dial shifter would not rotate. Vehicle could start but could not be driven. Problem has not been confirmed by dealer or independent service center. There were no warnings. Vehicle had been sitting in the sun in a parking lot on an 89 degree day for two hours. Cooling the vehicle cabin with A/C for 1/2 hour allowed the dial shifter to operate.

THE MANUFACTURER WELDS ON THE DOOR CHECK ARM FAILED. THIS PREVENTED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR FROM CLOSING. INSPECTED BY DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE HAD MANY SIMILAR FAILURES ON BOTH THE ESCAPE AND EDGE VEHICLES. FORD HAS SAID THEY WILL NOT MAKE "OUT OF WARRANTY" REPAIRS. THE REPAIRS ARE AT OWNERS OWN EXPENSE AND FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR WHAT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FORD'S SOLUTION, REPLACE ENTIRE DOOR AND ASSEMBLY. MY OPINION, FACTORY WELDS SHOULD NOT FAIL.

A panel under the moon roof that is used to deflect water in case water leaks through the moon roof suddenly fell down on the back seat of the car while we were driving with the moon roof open. Upon inspection we discovered that this panel is glued to some foam pads and apparently the adhesive had lost it's grip. We were able to put the panel back in place. But the next time we opened the moon roof it came down again this time bouncing off the back seat and hitting my wife (the passenger) in the head. Fortunately, she was not injured. Had it hit me (the driver) it could have caused an accident with unknown consequences. Ford's response when we addressed it with Dealer was to replace the panel and install it using the same method of adhesive and foam pads. I believe this is an engineering failure because it was not secured with screws or nuts & bolts. Pictures of the part number and part are attached.

I was opening the front driver’s side door, the door failed to open completely. I had to forcefully pull the door handle for the door to open and heard a loud clicking noise. Took car to dealer and became aware that the latch was welded incorrectly and welded area broke. The dealer stated that the front driver’s side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the door cost is $2,500 and my warranty had just expired 4-30-23. I called Ford customer service to tell them the door check broke out of door to see if they had some assistance for the cost. They said they did not. The failure mileage was 32,100. You can see with the pictures attached the right front door bracket is not broke and the Drivers side front door bracket is broke with three welding holes that broke off the bracket. The bracket cost $47 to $50, but they say the whole door needs to be replaced. $2500 cost is not fair to a owner when a small part breaks with the only fix and whole new door. If all four of my doors break soon the cost would be $10,000.00. This needs to be considered a RECALL so Ford can fix and bare the cost for a part that has gone bad and there are many complaints on this same issue. Thanks for looking into it.

Broken weld points inside the front driver-side door. There was no accident or impact to the door. The door was used properly and never overextended or caught by the wind to my knowledge. I am the primary driver. My spouse occasionally drives the car and he doesn’t recall any such incidents either. I opened it to get in one day and started hearing a popping sound. Immediately after the popping sound, I was not able to close the door. Ultimately, I was able to close the door but there are creaking and grinding noises every time I use the door.

2020 Ford Escape drivers door had the check arm fail due to the inner reinforcement bracket breaking off of the outer door shell. The failure caused the check arm to lodge into the window track and the door would not close and the vehicle couldn’t be driven or secured. The door made a popping sound just 1 time before the failure. Ford states an issue with the check arm welds failing in SSM 51553 but doesn’t have a remedy other than replacing the door. I worry a new door will fail in the same way unless it’s been redesigned.

The welds securing the check arm on driver's side door detached without prior warning during normal use, making the door nearly impossible to close fully, and keeping the window from going down more than about an inch. The dealer says they have seen multiple instances of this on the 2020 Escape, and there are many reports of the same thing on the internet. The body shop that repaired it has also seen it many times, always with the 2020 model. Ford appears to have strengthened it in subsequent model, but hasn't issued a recall and won't cover the cost the repair. Obviously, having a door (or even a window) that doesn't operate well, especially on the driver's side, is a safety issue. This detached check arm also allowed the door to swing out uncontrollably if caught by the wind or on a downhill slope, which could damage other cars in a parking lot.

Pulling up to a stop sign going slowly as I was in a shopping center parking lot. When I applied the breaks they felt mushy and I had to pump the pedal. A red light flashed but quickly went out as I stopped. I believe it was the break warning light, but I was concentrating on stopping so can't be sure. Driving home all was well but the next day the break light came on and stayed on. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer, but noticed as I backed out of the driveway for the tow the break light was off. The dealer could not reproduce the issue and said there were no fault codes present.

While attempting to fuel the vehicle, thinking the hood latch was the fuel door release, the hood latch was pulled (twice). After completing fueling we re-entered the roadway and at about 45 mph, the hood flew up and backwards over the windscreen. We were able to stop the vehicle and close the hood without further incident although there is damage to body panels and the windscreen. Although an operator error was made by confusing the hood latch with the fuel door release, it seems like a poor and dangerous design to be able to completely unlatch the hood (no manual safety under the hood as is customary) allowing it to fly up while underway. Upon further investigation, we determined that the newest generation of these vehicles simply require two pulls of the hood latch to completely release it. The more typical method of one pull of the latch followed by manual release of the safety by reaching under the hood has been abandoned in this design.

Vehicle has gone stone dead on two occasions with no electrical response of any kind. Physical key was required to unlock. First was 11/21/22 at 9,733 miles. Vehicle spent 10 or so days in the shop while problem was traced and some warranty work was done. Second was 3/11/23 with same symptoms. Dead first thing in the morning. Mileage was 12,470. Based on first experience, purchased a robust charger and brought the car to 100 charge and problem solved for the short term. Online forums mention this as a common problem for this and the 2021 Escape hybrids. Fix seems to be getting a larger AGM battery which, with its greater capacity and faster charging capacity can better handle the parasites in the electrical system. In the runup to both 'deaths' the vehicle's computers began shutting down accessories such as remote start, handle touch unlocking, etc. All I ask is a replacement of the 12 volt battery with the larger 70aH AGM battery (Ford part BAGM48H6760). My wife and I have one car. She has a disability. I purchased this car to give her easier entrance and exit. It never occurred to me that it would not start reliably.

For no apparent reason, Driver side door malfunctioned in early March 2023. Every time the door was opened it would make a horrible popping sound. No accidents or incidents at all with the car, was bought new in Feb. 2021. This morning when the door was opened it sounded like something snapped, now the door will just swing wide open so I have to hold the door and barely open to squeeze in and out or it won't shut correctly. Called Ford Dealership and was advised to take to a body shop for repair, which would involve replacing the left front door check arm and door because the spot welds break on the driver door check arm attachment point, at a price point of over $2K. They stated that is is a common occurrence on the 2020 Escapes, because of a manufacturer defect. This is mentioned in the NHTSA ID #10201603. If a door will not properly shut or window properly open it won't pass a safety inspection for any state.

This has happened a few times sporadically since I have owned the vehicle in 2020. As I am driving it will alert me to stop safely now. The car will loose power and not allow me to go past 15 mph. The screen will go blank and the ac will not throw cool air. This is concerning because since the car looses power, it is dangerous if I am at a fast speed. Once I pull over, sometimes I cannot turn off the car. And if I do turn it off, I cannot turn it back on for a few minutes.

On June7th I was driving home in my 2020 hybrid escape when the motor quit and the car came to a stop, then smoke started coming out from under the hood, I opened the hood and flames shot out at the back side of the motor on the passenger side, oil was leaking on to the road and on fire, I called the fire department, when they got there all the fire finally went out as the oil burned up. I had the car towed that day to Purchase ford in Mayfield KY. where it is still at. At first I was told this would be a warranty covered job, the car had 37500 miles, the power train and motor are good for 60,000 miles. It was apparent this would take a long time to fix, and I told Ford I did not want the car back as it would be depleted in value with a history of a fire, In July I got a recall 22V484 for the very reason my car caught on fire. Come to find out the motor failed and thru a rod and a hole in the block let the oil leak out and catch on fire. I asked for a loaner but they did not have one, I rented a car and Ford finally paid for most of it but I'm still out $500.00, I have returned the rental car. I have made five months of payment on this car without having it. At first Ford said they would do a buy back, then they emailed me saying this was denied due to KY. guidelines? I also asked for another car of equal value and that will not happen. Finally Ford told me to accept the repairs on my car and take it back or they were closing my case. This is a Bluetooth issue. When you’re talking on the phone, after period of time you begin to sound like a robot. You have to take your phone off of Bluetooth and put it back on Bluetooth taking your eyes off the road. Many times it’s while you’re on the highway. My husband works for a company who purchased 600 cars for their last project and everyone he knows has the same issue. It’s definitely widespread. The Ford company says you have to have a radio person to deal with it and they don’t have a radio person on staff at some locations and others they’re only there for certain days of the week. this is a dangerous situation.
