Driver's side door hinge/weld problem. That Ford is aware of and not fixing free of charge! These vehicles are 2020-21! Mileage should not matter, because actually high mileage on a new car should show the door is NOT being used very often, rather there are long journeys in between each use. It is problem, they are aware of it, and they are leaving it up to the customer to repair the vehicles. Also, I was told by Ford Dealership it was safe to drive, and further investigating, some of the doors have come off while moving! It is so unfortunate that a large company would have the consumer pay for their faulty/poor work. Let's get this problem on the news.

We received an IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL in June of last year (2023). The engine could fail, spewing oil with imminent fire danger. The "fix" was estimated to be available by October 2023. We have kept in contact with our Ford service manager, where we purchased the car & they still do not have any word about how to fix this or what parts to use. The last Ford recall for this car was a haphazard fix of drilling holes to let oil drain safely!? We are very concerned about driving our car with this possible break down & fire & this is our only vehicle. Please help us come to a satisfactory resolution for this safety problem. Safety Recall Notice 23S27/NHTSA Recall 23V380. Thank You!

I was driving home in my 2020 Escape Hybrid, a 2 1/2 hour trip. All of a sudden, 40 miles from home and as I was driving on a busy expressway just before nightfall, my info screen and the main screen went black. The info screen said there was a connectivity error. I had no idea what was going on, but I was terrified that my headlights would go out. Luckily, there was an exit coming up, and I took it and parked at the gas station right off the exit. I called AAA for a tow. They had to put the car on a flatbed truck, as once I had turned the car off it wouldn’t start again, so I couldn’t put it into neutral. I got towed home, as the dealership was closed; and the next morning I got towed to the dealership. I was told by the service advisor that the battery had a bad cell. Since this was the second battery that died within a year, the dealership replaced it for free. I’m on a Ford Escape Hybrid forum, and there are many people who have had the same problem with the 12 volt battery. It was suggested to replace the battery with a larger AGM battery. I was lucky there was an exit right there. If I had driven the car any longer, I probably would have lost my headlights and the whole car would have died. And I could have been killed. This is a life-threatening issue that Ford should fix by replacing the battery with a larger one that has enough power to run the car and thus won’t fail prematurely. I’m scared to drive my car now.

Car was parked on sloped driveway by dealer's service department driver. Car was shut off and in park, but parking brake was not on. The driver was out of the car taking pictures when it started to roll backwards down the driveway. The driver saw it happen and set the parking brake, It rolled approximately 18 inches and then stopped. I had thought that this had happened previously, but it was much more noticeable watching from outside the car. I contacted the dealer immediately and was told it was normal and to just pay attention to it. He did not suggest bringing it in for inspection. No warning lights or messages.

Yesterday when I opened my driver side door there was a grinding/popping noise. I looked on-line and saw that it is the door check defect on the 2020 and 2021 escapes that is an issue with the welding. I called the dealership today and they said because it is over the milage for the warranty that it will not be covered. Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin TSB-SSM 50150 but there is not a recall and there are several class action lawsuits regarding the issues. I was told to file a report with your agency.

I purchased the vehicle brand new in February 2020 and it has had persistent battery/electrical issues. In May 2022 the battery was malfunctioning and I was driving it to the dealership to be examined and it completely died while I was driving. The electrical system failed while I was driving. I have had the battery replaced at least 3 times in less than 4 years and, despite the battery being replaced less than a year ago, it needs to be replaced again. Ford is not willing to cover the replacement battery despite it being less than 1 year ago. Ford is not standing by their vehicle and refusing to accommodate the repeated battery issues, including catastrophic failure while driving.

Bracket tack welds failed in drivers side front door at attachment of the door check to the door frame. Resulting loose end causes multi-part safety hazard. First, it jams door, randomly presenting it from closing and latching properly, which defeats the auto-lock safety features designed to maintain body integrity in the event of an accident (hazard 1). It also binds now and then, preventing door from being opened for the driver of the car (hazard 2). Third, while flopping around inside the door, the part interferes with the opening of drivers side window (hazard 3). Hazard 2 and 3 in combination create a condition where safe egress from the vehicle in the event of an emergency is not assured for the driver. Dealer confirmed issue and issued quote to replace the door. Manufacturer thinks its not their problem unless its under warranty. Issue is well described in various locations on the web, so its not a one-off manufacturing issue, rather a systemic design/implementation problem.

Nothing has yet happened, however, Ford sent a recall notice regarding premature engine failure in May 2023. The recall (NHTSA recall 23V380) stated that they anticipated a solution by October 2023, but they have no solution still. I don't know what the nature of the defect is, but I did not anticipate waiting more than 8 months for a solution on something that could cause the engine to set on fire. This vehicle is a daily driver for us, and we'd like to take it on a road trip this summer, but the combination of heat and unknown engine risk makes me not want to risk it.

While driving the car on a busy fast-flowing road the message "Stop Safely Now" appeared on the dashboard. The car lost power and could only be driven at 20 mph and would not speed up. I pulled over and when I stopped but did not power off, the car would not start moving again. After turning the car off for five minutes it drove again properly with no issue. There is a spot weld failure inside my driver side door resulting in the door hinge being broken inside the door. The door does not open all the way and it makes loud popping and screeching noises. I can only roll my window down about 3 inches. I am concerned for my safety as I have seen other complaints regarding this issue where the door stopped latching completely. Also, windows are an emergency exit. In the case of an accident, I need to be able to open the window to exit if it is the only viable option. I took my vehicle to the local dealer on 10/27/23 and was told that this issue is not covered by my manufacturer warranty or the Ford Premium extended warranty that I purchased through Ford. I have been told that I will need a new door at my expense. The dealer did offer to reach out to Ford on my behalf but still no response after 2 months of waiting. This is my 4th Ford Escape and I have never had so many issues with a vehicle in the past. Ford is very aware of the hundreds of complaints about this very issue, but still will do nothing to help. It is extremely frustrating.

Recall 23S27 has no remedy available since May 2023, and Ford has not made any reasonable attempt to repair the engine that they say may catch on fire due to failure. Originally promised a fix announcement by October 2023, that has since come and went, then they said November and it's now December 24, 2023 and there's no fix for this issue. The previous related recall to increase ventilation did not work, nor does it address the defective engine block or other lubricated components that caused block breaches and subsequent fires. Why is Ford allowed to not fix this issue in a timely manner? I rely on this vehicle for family transportation and knowing that they have yet to come out with a repair means they are willfully risking the lives of their customers over the cost of repairing or replacing the engines with components that aren't defective.

Drivers side door spot welds for the door check bracket broke off the door having me to unable to close the door as I was out Christmas shopping at the Mall. I had to drive back home where I could park the car in a safe location and figure out what happened. Upon inspecting the drivers side door and watching videos of the same issue that other Ford Escape drivers have experienced I used a 6" wheel grinder to cut of the door check bracket in order to be able to close the door. It was dark at this time other wise I would have taken the door panel out and removed the complete bracket and door check. Ford is aware of this situation and has no recall on this. Manual key required to open door. Initial attempts to jump start do not work - takes numerous attempts to jump start until car by chance ‘wakes up’. Battery charging will not help and low charge on starter batter is not the issue. Parking brake release not possible for towing since no electrical to release parking brake. Car is not equipped to manually disengage parking brake - contrary to what is written in manual. Therefore is a problem for towing company if they do not have dolly's to place on flat bed. Software update is required at dealership to solve issue. In the meantime, you can get seriously stranded with a dead car. NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
