2019 Dodge Grand Caravan complaints

64398 miles, transmission failure. Complete failure in about 5 miles from first hearing a whining type noise till barely being able to move. Dealership said not covered under warranty because we are 4398 miles over.

Vehicle has been well maintained. It has 71,xxx miles. With no warning or indication of problems, we had complete transmission failure. It worked fine, we exited highway and it was noisy. Within 2 miles, the transmission was slipping (jerking van) and then totally went out (won't accelerate at all). Still no warning lights. Towed and repair center said complete transmission failure. Looking online, this has happened to multiple people in very similar fashion (no indication of issue to being undriveable within minutes). For a vehicle with 71,xxx miles and being 3 years old, this is terrible...still a substantial loan in place :(

Vehicle failed inspection, AIR BAG LIGHT ON. Driver seat wire harness open left thorax squib must replace entire harness, air bag circuits cannot be repaired due to high resistance splicing causes. Part on Back order until August 2023!! Car cannot be repaired and is out of service, unable to drive, illegal to drive, I have a $20,000 car loan, Thrifty Car Sales of Westfield, [XXX], violated Massachusetts Lemon Law and refused the car while under the 60 day, 2500 mile Used Car Warranty. Exhaust Leak, Muffler clamp rusted through, not holding pipes together. Driver Front Marker Light Bulb open circuit, bulb needs to be replaced. The passenger’s side rear (back row) seatbelt locking retractor will not retract. The seatbelt is not usable as it remains extended. The vehicle was not in an accident. This puts passengers at risk due to not being able to be properly secured in the seatbelt. The problem has not been looked at by a service center. The product has not been inspected by police or and insurance agent Etc. No warning lamps or messages appeared as a result of the malfunction and I first became aware of this problem about 2 weeks ago.

The Air Bag Light remains on. I was told that it is responsible for the Driver's Side Air Bag. It was formally documented on February 25th, 2023 by Firestone on King St. in Northampton, MA 01035. It has been brought to LIA DODGE KING STREET in NORTHAMPTON, MA 01060. THEY TOLD ME THE WIRING PART TO REPAIR THIS IS ON BACKORDER AND NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL AUGUST 2023 and not guaranteed to be available. In addition, I was told it would cost $900.00 to install. I was told this by multiple people including CHRYSLER DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS TOLD A NEW PART IS IN DEVELOPMENT AND NOT READY UNTIL AUGUST 2023. If this is in fact, true, then this is a huge safety risk for all 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan Driver's who have the Air Bag Light on and may or may not have a working Air Bag. This is a huge safety issue. Additionally, I was told that the part is a "Wiring Harness" Part#68531685AA and it would cost $900.00 to install. On the Mopar Site, it is just the JUMPER WIRE SENSOR" PART# 68531685AA and is $45.00 plus $20.00 Shipping!!!! I was also told by Chrysler Dodge Customer Service that a Dodge Dealer can install the part after I buy the part on Mopar.com and Lia Dodge told me they could not. My car has been rejected following a failed inspection for the Airbag light and ALSO the RUSTED CLAMP that is holding the Exhaust Pipes together and Co2 is backing up into the Cabin. In addition to the SENSOR JUMPER WIRE Part# 98531685AA, the Vehicle should also be recalled for the Part# 4578916AB Th

The contact had taken the vehicle to several independent mechanics who could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. Took our 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan in for a regular oil change. The next day the check engine light came on. After a diagnostic, KB Auto showed that 2 cylinders were misfiring. They mentioned that they had recently serviced many Dodge/Chryslers with the same issue. Further research shows that several complaints have been made. We were told that we could continue to drive the van. If the check engine light came on and continued to blink, the engine would likely shut off and we would have to be towed. We purchased the van in June 2019 with 18000 miles. We have only had it 3 years and a major engine repair is needed. The repaid cost is estimated to be $2700. We only owe $9,000. This is absolutely ridiculous. The engines need to be recalled.

Van shut off without any lights coming on to warn me that it was shutting off. Also both rear wheels (rims) had to be replaced due to them being bent.

Stow and go seat behind the passenger will not latch properly so therefore I can’t use it and is secured in the stow and go compartment

Several times now, intermittently, my 2019 van has turned off on me as I am driving or am stopped at a red light, although most commonly it has occurred when I was driving. The van has stopped while I am driving various speeds, notably around the 10-40 mph. It will turn on once I come to a full stop, shift to park, and turn the key again. I've had the battery and alternator checked and they are in perfect working condition. This is a very dangerous situation.

I brought . my car to the dealership and they told me the airbags had an active code in the harness wiring in the driver's seat and wanted 1000 dollars to repair or rebuild the harness. They didn't have a replacement harness available and said the part did not exist so they would have to custom build one. They said it was not under warranty because I have48,000 miles on my car. I can not believe that a safety issue involving the airbag operation would not be covered by the manufaturer. I really need help

While driving vehicle it began to made a horrible noise and then stalled in the middle of the road while driving. Was able to restart and move out of the way but stalled again. Car would no longer move into drive. No warning lights came on until after the car stalled for the second time. Then the check engine light came on. Previous to this occurrence the car was running perfectly fine and gave no warnings that the transmission was going out. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic where they stated the transmission blew. Upon finding this out vehicle was towed to a dodge dealership where we were informed warranty was expired. Vehicle only has 73,000 miles on it.

The power rear door on the passenger side is stuck in the closed position. Can not be manually opened or opened with the button. It can not be unlocked. This is an issue in an accident. This makes it increasingly difficult for passengers to get out of the vehicle in an emergency. This has been a problem ever since Dodge introduced the power sliding doors on their vans.

Transmission failed while driving on the highway without prior warning and the vehicle had to be towed home. The vehicle had limited power left to pull off the highway for safety though. What I hear when I start and rev the engine a bit is high pitched whining noise and noise of separated or lose components coming from inside the transmission. Research has shown me that this same drive train has been running in Chrysler and Dodge vehicles for about ten years now and has seen recalls on the transmission for some earlier model years like 2015, 2016, … . This is a big safety issue given that this vehicle seats seven people (families rely on this van for transportation) and therefore Chrysler should add this vehicle drive train to the recall list ASAP. After failing the the check engine light popped up and running it on the generic scan tool code P083B showed up.

Rough idling. Misfire. I've changed the sparkplugs twice already, the Wiring harness, Injectors, purge valve, etc.

My car was towed away from my parking space and given to a dodge dealer, i coulndt figure out where it was, i finally found where it was , the guy who took it in was already doing repairs and investigating with out, knowing whose car is it, he goes and does a repair not being on what we talked about and does his repair, then he tells me i payy up 1,400 for the repairs he did, before he repaired it i asked him to check the fluids makes sure everything is good and ready so i wont be left in the road stranded, i come back 2 day later cause i take my car for a drive, for 15 mins and head to the same dealer cause oil pressure light and battery light and oil light was on and the person who serviced me saw this when i took it in, before i asked him to check if everything with fluids is up to date, when he first was repairing it and didnt know what was wrong with it, so then i meet him and he says well we cant repair it because we dont know what could it be and the car needs more driving for it to see whats wrong with it, and or you can try coming with warranty, then my car breaks down after i leave the shop test driving it for 15 mins cause he advised me to drive it or get warranty,, instead of checking it for inspection. then iam left stranded in the road cause of this situation. i take the car back to the same dealer for repair and they say its the battery and starter, and now they saying pay it in this amount of time or my car will be towed away,.all that waste of money in repair

DRIVER SIDE REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK OR OPEN. MANUAL LOCK/UNLOCK LEVER ON DOOR IS STUCK IN LOCKED POSITION. THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE ARE REAR PASSENGERS THAT NEED TO EXIT IN A CRASH OR OTHER EMERGENCY. THIS VAN SEATS 4 REAR PASSENGERS AND HAVING BOTH DOORS AVAILABLE CAN BE CRITICAL. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND IT POINTS TO A SEIZED DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK ACTUATOR. THERE HAVE BEEN PRIOR NHTSA ACTIONS ON 2015-2017 DODGE AND CHRYSLER MINIVANS RESULTING IN CHRYSLER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THIS ISSUE. MY VAN USES THE EXACT SAME ACTUATORS AS THE EARLIER VANS. I AM FEARFUL THAT THE OTHER DOOR ACTUATOR MAY FAIL WITHOUR WITHOUT WARNING, RENDERING MY VEHICLE USELESS FOR TRANSPORTING PASSENGERS.

Passenger side sliding door will not open, either manually or electrically.

The lock actuator on the driver's side sliding door has seized in the lock position in our Grand Caravan. Using the fob, the switches in the vehicle, and the mechanical levers on the door, we are unable to unlock or open the door. Researching this problem, I see that it is common in 5th generation Grand Caravans and Town and Countries and plagues both sliding doors, creating a safety hazard: in the event of an emergency, if both actuators were to have seized since passengers entered the car, it would make exiting the car slow to impossible, and therefore hazardous. I have heard from a mechanic that Dodge/Chrysler is aware of the issue. There is, to this point, no recall or safety bulletin, and apparently nothing is being done about it, and that needs to change. To this point, our vehicle has not been officially inspected, though all of the symptoms are exactly as can be found in the various reports on the internet. There were no warnings that the part was going to fail/seize.

My transmission turbo converter is going out and it’s not even at 80,000 miles. Along with my doors don’t fully shut on automatic shut. No crash or danger yet but being told it could put me and my family in a potential dangerous situation especially on the highway

The passenger sliding door stopped working and will not open or unlock manually. If there is an accident rear passengers will have to exit the vehicle through the driver side sliding door and/or the rear hatch. It appears to be the lock actuator and am waiting on the part to arrive for install to see if issue resolved.

I was in line at a fast food drive thru when a strange noise began coming from under my hood. When I went to drive forward, the engine revved but the vehicle didn’t move at first. It finally jerked into gear and I proceeded to exit the line and to a stop sign before driving onto the main road. I had no problem taking off from the stop sign but as I was accelerating on the main road, I got up to about 35mph and the vehicle revved again, but this time it stopped moving in the middle of the road. The car behind me blew their horn and ran off the road to a avoid rear-ending me. There was no CEL illuminated and no other warning or indication of a problem. I got off the road and turned the engine off. I turned it back on and took the back streets home and parked it. I had the transmission filter and fluid changed, and all was well for about another 200 miles. As I was driving about 60 miles an hour on a highway, I again lost forward motion and the engine revved to about 5000 rpm’s. I immediately steered off the highway to avoid a collision. Again, there no malfunction indicator light illuminated. After careful inspection by a certified technician, it was determined that the transaxle oil pump has failed. The vehicle is available for inspection at yours or your representative’s convenience.

On several occasions, the right sliding door on the van would not open either manually or electronically. I tried unlocking all doors, pushing buttons on key fob and inside the vehicle, and pulling on the interior and exterior door handles. The door would be stuck. On one occasion, the left sliding door opened on its own when the vehicle was locked and unattended.

Issues with locking mechanisms. Makes buzzing noises.

The contact leased a rental 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned on and the gear shifter was shifted in park (P), she exited the vehicle while her three children remained inside the vehicle. The contact stated that her son went into the driver's seat and moved the gear shifter. The vehicle then rolled away and came to a complete stop in a ditch. The air bags were not deployed upon impact. The contact's son had a bruise on his head, her daughter had a bruise on her neck from the seat belt and body aches, and her other son had a cut lip upon impact. Medical attention was received for the three children. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop but the contact was unaware if it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Passenger sliding door won’t lock or unlock

Stalling, power loss and misfire conditions on #2 cylinder. Safety at risk as losses power while driving and vehicle shakes/stalls. Vehicle has been seen by mechanic who states this is a factory defect regarding Pentastar V6 motors. They looked at cylinders and my #2 cylinder is the issue.

The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the electronics would suddenly malfunction causing the windshield wipers to erroneously activate, the turn signals to become inoperable, the backup camera to fail, and the brakes to malfunction. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure and no service was performed. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

The passenger door interior handle cracked off on July 3, 2021. I was exiting the vehicle normally and did not use much force to try to open the door. The lack of an operational handle made it impossible for me as the passenger to open the door myself from the inside. What if there was an accident or the vehicle ended up in the water? I would not be able to exit from my side. I would be trapped. I felt very unsafe. There was no warning of imminent part failure. We ordered a replacement part on July 5th and performed the repair ourselves. The broken part was never inspected or documented. We noticed the part was offered for sale in pairs, which was disconcerting. We ordered a pair a few days later as a precaution. Within a week's time, the driver's side interior door handle also broke off. The handles appear to be shiny, silver, and metallic but in reality are incredibly cheap plastic. Both front interior door handles lasted less than 3 years under normal use. A main concern is that in the event of any emergency, in a panic, a person inside the minivan may use a lot of force to attempt to rapidly exit the vehicle. But you can't pull hard on these interior door handles because they obviously are not very strong and break easily. After the driver's side handle broke, we bought an additional replacement part so that we have a pair in reserve for the next time either one cracks and breaks. Passenger sliding door on 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan keeps malfunctioning. I cannot at times open the door from the outside or open the door from the inside. It has been repaired 3 times but the problem keeps coming back.

I have my 2nd dodge grand caravan that I have trouble with the automatic doors keep opening and shutting over and over even with something like a body in the way. I had a 2016 that I had the same problems with and had it in over and over the dealerships kept telling me they could not duplicate the problem I finally traded it in for this one and have battled the same problems with this one. I have a damaged nerve in my dominant right arm and the doors will open and shut over and over the only way to stop them is to jerk on the door handle hard this causes me agony for weeks . I am on a permanent 15 # lifting pushing pulling restriction with this arm and I have to jerk pretty hard to get it to stop as I said the pain is severe then for weeks. It doesn't do it real frequently but when it does it is a problem. One time with this van the door shut on me and bruised my arm another time I put a big container of laundry detergent in the door thinking it would stop when hitting something that hard well I had to pull the soap out as It was hitting against it so hard I was afraid the detergent bottle would break.. I have a Dodge executive on my case and he keeps telling me he will call me back and does not. I have had both vehicles in to 3 different dealerships multiple times and told the same thing we can not duplicate the problem. Recently my Aunt is in a wheelchair and she has a caregiver that women was in the passenger side back door laying over the seat to put my aunts stuff in the

I bought this vehicle in 2019. I have had an intermittent safety issue even now in 2022. I have taken this vehicle into the dealer 3 different times. Every time they said that they did not see anything wrong. Now the vehicle is out of warranty and it still has the intermittent problem, which is that the right sliding door occasionally does not stay oven when you open it. It opens all the way, no matter if you hit the keyfob, hit the open button above the windshield, push the open button in the back seat, or lift open the handle on the outside of the vehicle. This is how it should work. Unfortunately, several times over the last 3 years it doesn't want to stay open and starts closing by itself - immediately after it opens - sometimes causing panic and sometimes it hits you in the side and just stays there while making a ratcheting noise for a minute. Then you have to manually open or close the door. This defective action of the door would happen sometimes once or more a day and then not happen for a month. We got so used to this bad door system that we hardly pay attention to it anymore. But anytime someone else uses that door, they may get shocked about the door closing again right after someone opens it - and it freaks them out, or worse. The right passenger sliding door did the problem the most ,and the left sliding passenger door also did this mis-action - but not as often.

Car shakes which feels like first 3 gears during acceleration. As if riding over spike strip.

Right sliding door will not lock/unlock using remote or manual application.

The active head restraint on the passenger seat deployed all of a sudden. There has been no collision or anything. It just deployed on its own. Not sure what triggered it. I just purchased this vehicle from a car dealership about 2 months ago.

Rear passenger door will not unlock or open.

Before 50K miles the transmission went out and a cylinder blew at the same time. There was no warning this would happen and when it happened we were in traffic and caused the vehicle to jump almost hitting another car. This was repaired by Dodge. At the time of pick up the technician in the shop told us that this is a common issue with these vans and he sees this all the time. Also the breaks have not worked properly since purchase. An online form shows many owners have this same issue and have determined that the break system is under rated for the size of vehicle.

Passenger sliding door will only lock/unlock manually, does not lock or unlock with the electric door locks or with FOB. This was only discovered after someone was able to open the door with the vehicle locked. The vehicle was taken to an auto repair shop. It was explained that the actuator in the door is bad and because of limited software release can only be repaired at dealership. The vehicle is owned and used by a non-profit for client services, and this creates not only safety issues for staff and clients, but undue hardship for cost of repairs.

On the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan equipped with remote start via key fob, the following hazardous senario can occur. The vehicle is parked in an "attached" garage with all doors to that space closed. The remote start function can be activated nearby from the dwelling, unintentionally, and without human awareness, since activation of this function only requires 2 clicks of the remote start button within 5 seconds. This can occur with key fob in the pocket, for example, or by other random means. The vehicle, functioning as designed, will start in the enclosed space, and run for up to 15 minutes. Substantial exhaust gases can accumulate in the garage space during this period, with substantial risk of carbon monoxide existing in that space and permeation into adjacent living spaces. This owner contends that the vehicle designers should have anticipated this and similar senarios, and should have provided, by design, a means by which the remote start function can be disabled/enabled as desired by the vehicle owner or by Dodge service. Presently, there is no feature to disable remote start. Local Dodge service indicated that the only option is a key fob without remote start button. This represents a potential safety issue which should be evaluated by the manufacturer.

Lock actuator failure on driver side rear sliding door. This is a concern for a two year old vehicle and poses a safety risk for passenger/child egress.

The door handle on the interior passenger side front seat snapped off. Less than six months later, the door handle on the interior of the driver side front seat snapped off. If this occurs, and we get in an accident before we can get a replacement, we are trapped in the vehicle.

I just bought the car. My family was very excited to have powered doors, including the trunk. We tested the doors thoroughly. That night I push the button on the key fob to open the trunk and hear an awful metallic ripping noise. I inspected the door to figure out the cause. The spoiler, which has the brake light attached, was loose. It was still attached though and I needed to go somewhere. While driving the spoiler flew off and completely detached. Luckily no one else was on the road at the time. My husband found the part later and the clips to hold the piece on were broken.

2019 Dodge Caravan driver door handle broke. It is a thin plastic. This van was brand new when I got it and it just barely turn 2 years old. I am disabled and when I cannot use my left side it is hard to wine down window and open the door from the outside. I cannot climb to other seats to get out. I asked the dealer where I got the van if they were going to fix it. I was told labor and part nearly $500. I feel they should fix free cause it is a danger to people with disavantages.

Driver door handle broke off. I am disabled and could not get out of van without winding down window and opening door from the outside. The van is only 2 years old. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and it will cost close to $550.00 to fix.

On three separate occasions the engine has stalled while idling. The Van needs to be placed into Park, the ignition turned off, and then turned back on. No check engine lights or warns of the vehicle having any issues.
