2019 Dodge Grand Caravan complaints

I do not know the "cause" other than what would be a manufacture defect. The seat straps at the hip location are fraying. The seat was purchased in 2023, my daughter doesn't even use it consecutively.

I put my 18 month old into the van and closed the door with no issue using the button above the front center console. We drove to the elementary school to pick up my daughter and back. The car stayed on the entire time, and the trip there and back took about 20 minutes. When we returned I pressed both buttons for both sliding doors, and only the right side opened. When I went to open the door manually it wouldn’t budge. When I tried to move the lock manually to unlocked it felt as if there was something preventing it from moving all the way to unlocked. I googled the issue and discovered that this is a common problem and that the lock actuator needs to be replaced. A costly and time consuming repair is necessary, but what is worse is the safety issue. It’s not unheard of for cars to be hit, ind tipped over to one side. If that door was the only side that was accessible it could pose a significant safety risk to anyone in the back seat as it is completely jammed and cannot even be manually opened. Upon researching the issue further, it appears earlier models had a recall due to this door issue, but later models are not covered for this recall.

Drove it one day and it was fine, then next day I went on my lunch break and it lost power, I pull in a parking lot put it park then tried to pull it in reverse and it would only go into neutral. After a couple times it have went into reverse but found out the transmission has to be replaced. Only 110,000 miles.

While car is in drive, side electric doors try and open on their own. Vehicle tells you this action cannot be completed until car is in park. When placing car in park, the passenger sliding door automatically opens. Battery is being drained and while car is off, front control panel is clicking intermittently and the cluster dials are moving, drawing power.

Diagnosed and replaced failed cylinder head. Camshafts and related parts. This should not happen at 76,202 miles.

The driver side sliding door locking mechanism is locked and will not open using the button or manually. Therefore, that door will not open at all. If that passenger needed to escape the vehicle quickly it would not be possible. It also makes repairing the mechanism more difficult and the cost for these repairs at a dealer are very prohibitive. It appears that this is an ongoing issue with Dodge Grand Caravans and like models and seems like an unsafe planned obsolescence of the parts that are supposed to be make this vehicle safer. No codes are registering on the dashboard.

Hard misfire and rough idle creating issues while in traffic, almost rear ended multiple times because of loss of acceleration. inspection by mechanic says misfire in cylinder 2 couldn't be fixed. (multiple coils and spark plug replacements) mechanice made contact with a GM certified mechanic who indicated this is a common problem in the 3.6 engine used in these vehicles. Issue is deep within engine and requires complete engine replacement. It was explained to me that the engine could keep going as-is, or debris could begin breaking off inside the engine and cause total loss at any time. researched and found similar issue with 2012 engines.

While driving car changed gears Into neutral. Gear shift in park but it showed it was still in reverse.power door would not open while dash showed in reverse.

My check engine light came on in November 2023 and the code was a cylinder 2 misfire, so I had new spark plugs, ignition coil, and intake gaskets put in. About 2 days later, my check engine light came back on. I went back to the shop and was told it could be a number of things, but was not provided any set explanation. I then noticed that they engine light will turn off randomly, but then come right back on, so I thought it might be a wiring issue. I took my vehicle to my mechanic for diagnostic, due to my check engine light still being on after having the spark plugs, ignition coil, and intake gaskets replaced within the last 6 months. My mechanic said that my vehicle needs a new cylinder head, and that he has seen this same issue with several other Dodge Grand Caravans, and that another vehicle with the same parts was recalled for the same problem.

My 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan GT driver side sliding door is jammed shut and locked. I took it to 2 dealerships near me and both want almost $1000 per door to fix. The actuator is out and they said the loud noise when opening and closing the passenger side sliding door is a sign that door is also about to go out. My VIN doesn’t fall into the recalls. This seems like it is a hazard. If both doors indeed get stuck then how do you get car seats in and out? Isn’t it dangerous if other kids have to climb in and out the front doors? I’m so confused how this isn’t a recall when it will be dang near impossible to move car seats and kids through front doors or even moving 3rd row to get in and out and put back up for it to be sat in. Driver back sliding door makes buzzing noise when door lacks or unlocks. It will do it also going down road.

Cylinder 2 misfire requiring valve replacement. Seems to be a common problem with this motor and very expensive repair. Earlier years Dodge extended warranty to 150000 miles but the same issue with later year motors still exist without extending warranty.

My wife parked the van in our church parking lot. Turned it off and locked the doors like normal. Came out two hours later to see the front windows covered in smoke and the. Hitting the unlock button on the key fob opened the door to find the driver seat melted, center console, right half of steering wheel, driver window visor and roof melted and burnt. The fire of damage was only in that area the rest of the car has heat damage and smoke damage. But from under the driver seat and up completely melted away. This just happened today Feb 4, working though USAA insurance company to figure out the way forward.

Check engine light came on. Had it looked at and fixed. Misfire cyclinder 2. Had all sparks plugs and coils replaced. Engine light keeps coming on and off. Had it looked at by a dodge dealership who said they have fixed dozens of 2018-2019 dodge grand caravan for this same issue. They are having to go in a completely replace the top of the motor. This is a $5,000 repair. Not cheap at all for a $22,000 vehicle.

My engine light came on reading stated #2 misfire. I have had spark plugs, wires, coil boot intake gaskets replaced. Now #2 misfire is reading a permanent code. I need to know why this is not a recall on my van there are reports of thousands of Dodges having this happen and has become quite costly for me. The vehicle has a permanent cylinder 2 misfire. the misfire has at times produced an unexpected change in the vehicle's acceleration which could be dangerous in certain traffic conditions. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center who determined that the source of the misfire is either a mechanical component inside the engine or part of the valve train. I have been told that this issue could result in sudden engine lockup during operation.

I was trying to roll the 3rd row seats in my van into the storage area, when trying to get the headrest to be in a lower position (in order to stow) the headrest snapped forward quickly and hit my niece in the face. She was inside the vehicle trying to put the 3rd row seats down. Thankfully her nose is not broke, but she hurt it pretty bad. There is no warning that this could happen and I think it is a safety issue.

I had a check engine light come on for a misfire in cylinder 4. I replaced all the things needed to get this check engine light off and it still comes in for the same issue. My car is now currently at the dealer I purchased it feom so they can do further inspection. I decided to do some research online and found out that multiple people have been experiencing the same issue. I paid more then enough to try and get this issue resolved yet it still continues. I believe as well as others that this should be looked into as a possible recall of some sort due to multiple owners of the same vehicle having the same exact issue. I've also had my transmission replaced because after the light first came on a few days later the transmission went. I feel this can be a safety issue as well because the car can stall and shut down due to the misfire continuing to happen.

On 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan the side sliding door does not lock. When van is locked, the side sliding door can be opened from the outside (similar issue was reported on 2016 models) while van is supposedly locked. Safety and theft problem.

The engine on my 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan is skipping, running rough, and is unreliable. This is a safety issue due to the improper operation of the engine when pulling out into busy roadways. The check engine light is on. Auto technician found Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0302 “Cylinder #2 Misfire Detected.” The technician replaced the necessary components to repair this fault code and cleared the DTC from the ECM. The check engine light continues to come on with an active Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0302. Engine continues to misfire, skip, and is unreliable. A quick google search will show that there are thousands of people with the same exact issue. This is a manufacture defect and a safety concern. Pulling out into a busy roadway with this unresolved vehicle issue could potentially cause injury to myself, my wife, or my four children. Furthermore, any accident or injury to customers that purchased this product believing it to be a safe vehicle for their family would be negligence on Chrysler’s part because this issue has been known. Sliding passenger door does not lock. If the car is locked and someone opens that door, the alarm goes off.

The passenger side door actuator, which is responsible for unlocking and locking the door, has failed on my van. The door remains in the unlocked position and will not close. The previous poses a risk to the safety of my family since the lock will not engage. The problem with the actuator is that it does not allow the automatic locks to engage, which Dodge has installed to prevent carjackings. This issue arose approximately two months ago, and after searching online, I have noticed that this is a common failure on Dodge Grand Caravan models from the 2010s to their last year of production. My van is a 2019 model; the door actuator failed shortly after the warranty expired. The local Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram FIAT Dealership quoted me a minimum of $1200 to fix the problem. In the past, they issued a warranty extension from 3 years or 36,000 miles to 15 years / 150,000 miles for failed actuators; they limited it to 2015-2017 models. On my 2019 dodge grand caravan the sliding door, drivers side, became locked and would not open at all. Now I’m stuck with being unable to roll that window down without it malfunctioning completely open and shut. Then the passenger side door became stuck/locked and will not open.

The driver's side rear sliding door is stuck in the locked position so I'm not able to unlock the door. This goes for the button on the front door, the button on the key fob and manually unlocking it from the back seat. This is a huge safety issue. Someone could die if they couldn't get out in an emergency. From doing a quick search online, there are hundreds if not thousands of this same issue. Something must be done before someone dies.

The lock actuator on the rear driver's side door has seized in the locked position. I have two small children that require car seats and assistance with seat belts. If there was an accident, I'd be unable to open said door to get my child out of the vehicle without having to go around and climb through the other side, around another car seat. The only indicator that there's something wrong is that the dash display says to unlock the door to open it. I've researched online and this appears to be a known issue that Dodge doesn't fix, but it seems to be quite a safety hazard that must be addressed.

This Dodge Caravan has an engine problem with cylinder 2 misfire that has occurred in numerous vans with this motor. this van was purchased to aid my handicap wife and will no longer pass the Georgia Emissions Test required to purchase a valid tag. i have spent the normal repair dollars for the basic items suggested, however, everyone with this problem considers it a manufactures defect. Social media is full of owners with the same complaint. this problem seems to occur just after the factory warranty has expired, so dodge is not wanting to cover the expense. to have a 2019 model vehicle that can not pass the safety emission test is quite up setting to me. There needs to be a recall on this issue or an exempt status for this vehicle, since Dodge is not standing behind their product. By the way, my family has 2 of these exact vans, and both are failing in the same manner. this failure is not an isolated problem, and we as consumers need help to correct this deficiency. i have been struggling with this for over a year now

Without any warning or problems leading up to this, the sliding door on my passengers side has become “locked” and cannot be opened. I used my keys, and buttons in the car, the door will not open. I even tried to use force and pull it open, but it has not worked. It is stuck in “lock”. This is a safety hazard because my children have to enter and exit on the drivers side now which is often the side facing the open street. Also makes it harder for me to get my child on that side strapped into his car seat. I have to reach back OR reach through his window to get him secured. I have not taken the car to a dealership for repairs because I don’t want to be charged for fixing a manufacturer defect

The 2019 Grand Caravan shuts off while driving the steering will is hard to maneuver. It is very dangerous to have a car that stops with no warning.

Electrical: Intermittently, the headlights will dim for a second then return to normal—whether at an idle at a traffic light/stop sign, or at highway speeds. The turn signal will also pause briefly, breaking the normal clicking rhythm. Sliding door: The sliding door (Driver side) just began experiencing problems on 08/10/2023—upon completing the opening cycle, the door would not latch in the open position, accompanied by a clicking sound. When closing the door, it would stop short of latching closed—again accompanied with the clicking sound. It would click 3-4 times, then stop—the door remaining ajar. This happens regardless the mechanism used to operate the procedure: the button on the console above the dash, the button near the manual door opener (on center pillar), the button on the remote, as well as the exterior door handle. The door will open/close latching properly with manual operation.

The lock on the sliding back passenger door will not unlock manually or with any of the buttons in the car or fob.

The van started shaking on a trip. Codes P0172 and P0175 have been on for nearly 2 months. Many parts have been replaced. Spark plugs, o2 sensor, fuel injectors, ignition coils, and battery. The mechanic replaced gaskets and fuel pump. Codes won't go away. The van randomly takes multiple time to start. It shudders and has acceleration issues when the fuel I low.

Vehicle rear doorlatch stuck shut and will not open manually or with vehicle fob or buttons. This has happened twice in eight months. The first time, the mechanic was able to manually open it but this time it will not open at all.

Rear brakes pulsating and not stopping properly this van only has 11.345 miles on it. i dont think the brakes should have a problem yet. do you ?

Complete transmission failure at 87,447 miles. All recommended maintenance completed with local Dodge dealership. Denied any warranty help due to mileage. Transmission issues are common with this vehicle but Dodge will not offer any assistance outside of limited powertrain warranty.

The driver's inside door handle broke off during routine use. This could pose an egress hazard. No accident happened; the handle broke while the vehicle was parked. The handle was replaced by the dealer at our cost (warranty was expired). We still have the broken handle in our possession, and are providing pictures.

We had just returned from the grocery store parked the car in the driveway and were proceeding to exit the car. My 17 yr old daughter was sitting in the passenger seat when we heard a loud bang and her head was jolted foward by the headrest, upon examination and a quick Google search we learned that it was a safety feature for when rear-ended which had not happened.

We've owned this vehicle about 3 years and the check engine light keeps coming on. The code it throws is misfire 2. The mechanic changed the spark plug. That didn't clear the code. They ran a compression test on the cylinder, and it came back as low compression. They stated they've seen several like this and its been the cylinder head. I only have about 85,000 miles on the vehicle and he said I shouldn't be having these issues. The mechanic said they googled and found that this has been a reoccurring problem with the grand caravans. Why isn't Dodge offering an extended warranty for the newer models?

The Oil Filter Housing Unit was loose, causing oil to slow-leak into the spark plugs, resulting in my engine misfiring. According to the mechanic that worked on my vehicle, this is common in a lot of newer vans like the Caravan and the Chrysler Town And Country. I ended up having to pay about $900 to have the spark plugs and the Oil Filter Housing Unit replaced.
