2017 Audi A4 Allroad

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Audi RS5 Sportback, 2018 S5 Cabriolet, S5 Sportback, S5 Coupe, S4 Sedan, A5 Cabriolet, A5 Sportback, A5 Coupe, and 2017-2018 A4 Sedan and A4 Allroad vehicles. Oxidation on the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS) connecting cable may cause the software to misdiagnose a malfunction and disable the passenger air bag.

Risk. A disabled passenger air bag increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy. Audi will notify owners, and dealers will install cable ties to the harness, free of charge. The recall began September 9, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi's number for this recall is 74D9.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2018 Audi A5 Sportback and 2017-2018 Audi A4 Allroad vehicles. A passenger air bag module mounting screw may not have been sufficiently tightened, possibly affecting the deployment of the air bag in the event of a crash.

Risk. If the air bag does not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of an injury.

Remedy. Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bag mounting screw, tightening or replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Y4.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Audi A4 Sedan and A4 allroad, and 2018 A5 Sportback vehicles. The aluminum trim on the front and rear doors can come loose from around the door speakers, leaving sharp edges exposed.

Risk. The sharp edges of the speaker trim increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

Remedy. Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the speaker cover aluminum trim, free of charge. The recall began March 13, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 70G6.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2017 Audi A7, A4, A6, Volkswagen Golf and Tiguan vehicles and 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles for driver frontal air bags, passenger frontal air bags or head air bags that may not deploy properly. Additionally, certain 2017 Audi Q7, A4 Sedan, A4 Allroad, and 2018 Audi Q5 vehicles are being recalled because the seat belt pretensioners may not activate properly.

Risk. In the event of a crash, if the air bags and/or the seat belt pretensioners do not inflate or function properly, the vehicle occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. Volkswagen and Audi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bags and seat belt pretensioners, free of charge. The recall began April 2017. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2016 TT roadster, A3 cabriolet, A3 sedan and A3 e-tron, 2016-2017 TT coupe, 2017 A4 sedan and Q7 and 2015-2017 Q3 vehicles. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. If the side marker lights do not illuminate, the vehicle may be less visible at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Audi will notify owners, and dealers will upload revised software to correct the issue, free of charge. This recall began November 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97CB.

The contact owns a 2017 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH with the front driver's seat heater engaged, she felt a burning sensation as the seat was overheating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact disengaged the seat heater. The contact stated that upon arriving at her destination and exiting the vehicle, she noticed that a portion of the seat's lumbar support had melted and created a hole. Additionally, the contact noticed that there was a hole in her coat. There was no warning light illuminated. There was no injury sustained. The contact was able to drive to her residence. NHTSA RECALL 19V547 -- I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE WITH MY 2017 AUDI A4 IN WHICH THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM HAS BECOME FAULTY. AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE, MY PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL SHUT OFF AS IT IS NOT DETECTING A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE EVEN WHEN ONE IS PRESENT. I CONTACTED MY AUDI DEALER WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. THIS WAS OVER A MONTH AGO AND REMAINS AN ISSUE. WITH NO OTHER FORM OF TRANSPORTATION, WE ARE FORCED TO DRIVE A CAR WITHOUT A PASSENGER AIR BAG INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS A SERIOUS RISK TO OUR FAMILY. I BROUGHT THIS UP AGAIN TO OUR DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT IF I WANTED TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN, THEY WOULD GIVE ME A $500 ALLOWANCE TOWARDS A NEW CAR. THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND EVEN NOW THEY WILL NOT SCHEDULE MY CAR FOR SERVICE AS THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO SUPPORT THE REPAIR. THIS IS A MAJOR RISK TO MY FAMILY. IT OCCURS RANDOMLY DURING MOTION. AT EVEN 30 MPH A COLLISION WOULD RENDER MY PASSENGER UNPROTECTED. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I CAN DO RIGHT NOW TO KEEP THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD.

THE FRONT CRASH MITIGATION SYSTEM CALLED AUDI PRESENCE DOES NOT WORK ON MY CAR. I BOUGHT AN AUDI CERTIFIED PREOWNED VEHICLE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD TO FIND OUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I OWN CAR THAT WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED AND PRESENCE DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS A REQUIRED SAFETY SYSTEM IN MY CAR AND WILL COST 1700 TO REPAIR. AUDI OF AMERICA REFUSES TO FIX THIS UNDER WARRANTY DESPITE THIS BEING A FAULTY SYSTEM. THEY WILL NOT EVEN RETURN MY CALLS OR EMAILS. THE PRESENCE SYSTEM STOPS THE CAR SO AN ACCIDENT DOES NOT OCCUR.

THIS IS A TIRE COMPLAINT ABOUT CONTINENTAL CONTIPROCONTACT 245/40/R18 79H TIRES. AUDI PRESTIGE A4 WAS PURCHASED FROM DEALER, FLETCHER JONES AUDI IN CHICAGO, ON 12/29/17. IT HAD BEEN A DEALER DEMONSTRATOR AND HAD VERY LOW MILEAGE. IT IS USED MOSTLY FOR CITY LOW SPEED DRIVING. ON 4/25/18 ALL 4 TIRES HAD MULTIPLE BUBBLES IN SIDEWALLS AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. NEW TIRES WITH WARRANTY WERE PURCHASED FROM DEALER. ON 7/6/18 ONE TIRE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. ON 1/18/19 ONE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH BUBBLES. ON 3/24/19 3 TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH MULTIPLE BUBBLES IN SIDEWALLS. ON 4/24/19 ANOTHER TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH BUBBLES IN SIDEWALL. AS A SCIENTIST I HAVE DIFFICULTY BELIEVING THAT THIS IS JUST BAD LUCK. THIS LOOKS TO ME LIKE POOR ENGINEERING OR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. MY TIRES WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND TO THIS POINT MY PERSONAL EXPENSE HAS BEEN LOW. WE HAVE NOT HAD AN ACTUAL BLOWOUT OR ACCIDENT. NEVERTHELESS, I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS FOR MYSELF AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING DEFECTIVE IN THESE TIRES -- AND BEFORE ANOTHER PERSON GETS INJURED OR KILLED FROM A BLOWOUT

I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS RECALL #18V370000 BUT MY CAR IS NOT IN LIST OF RECALLED CARS. WITH AN ADULT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, A WARNING MESSAGE SAYS THAT THE BECAUSE OF A MALFUNCTION, THE AIR BAGS ARE TURNED OFF. A FEW SECONDS TO A MINUTE OR TWO LATER ANOTHER MESSAGE SAYS THE AIR BAGS ARE ON. THIS SEQUENCE CAN APPEAR MANY TIMES IN AN HOUR OF DRIVING OR NOT APPEAR AT ALL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE VERIFIED WITH THE DEALER THAT WHEN THE MESSAGE SAYS THE AIRBAGS ARE OFF, THEY REALLY ARE OFF. SO MY PASSENGER SOMETIMES LACKS THE PROTECTION AFFORDED BY THE AIR BAGS.

WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A WELL-PAVED ROADWAY, MY SUNROOF EXPLODED. I WAS NOT HIT BY A ROCK OR ANYTHING ELSE. THE ONLY SOUND I HEARD WAS THE POP WHEN THE EXPLOSION HAPPENED. THANKFULLY, MY SUN SHADE WAS CLOSED AND THE GLASS DID NOT ENTER THE VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO CALL HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON IN DASH AND CHIME CONTINUOUSLY GOES OFF AT VARIOUS TIMES (WHILE STATIONARY OR DRIVING) - WITH OR WITHOUT PASSENGER IN SEAT. BROUGHT CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE 'RE-HARNESSED'. ALSO STATED THAT UNTIL THE REPAIR IS DONE THE LIGHT AND CHIME WILL CONTINUE GOING OFF AND THE AIRBAG IS AT RISK OF NOT DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM OUTSIDE OF MY WARRANTY AND IT IS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT WILL COST ABOUT $300 TO FIX.

I LEASED MY AUDI A4 IN JUNE 2017 AND I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALER FOR THE FIRST SERVICE AT 8000 MILES AND THEY SAID I NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AS TIRES HAS NO MORE LIFE IN IT. LATER, I CHECKED WITH THE OTHER DEALER AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. I HAD CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT 6 R02 BW 245/35R19 93Y TIRES. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE TIRES OR QUALITY OF THESE TIRES ARE REALLY BAD. AUDI DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS THEY SAY CONTACT CONTINENTAL. WHY WOULD AUDI PUT SUCH BAD TIRES IF THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LAST FOR 8000 MILES?

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONLY CAME ON ONCE AND THAT IS WHEN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD DETECTED A PROBLEM. AUDI REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD TWO TIMES AFTER NUMEROUS SERVICE VISITS! THE SPUTTER, LAG, OCCURS ALL THE TIME I EVEN RECORDED A VIDEO BUT WAS UNABLE TO BE RECTIFIED.

AFTER HAVING THIS VEHICLE FOR 18 MONTHS THE CAR BEGAN TO FREEZE WHILE BACKING UO. THERE ARE NO OBJECTS, CARS OR HUMANS ANYWHERE AROUND THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURS. THE CAR WAS MOVING AT A VERY LOW SPEED WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AUTO LOCKS UP AND THE BRAKES ENGAGE, YOU HAVE TO STEP ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURS WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, MY GARAGE WHERE THERE IS NOTHING NEAR THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO AUDI 3 TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED AUDI USA NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE . I CONTACTED AUDI'S EXECUTIVE OFFICES AS WELL.

WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN WET WEATHER AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT 70 TO 80 DEGREES F WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE PARKING BRAKE INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS UP REQUIRING A DANGEROUS AMOUNT OF THROTTLE TO BREAK IT LOOSE.

WHILE DRIVING WITH THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT LATCHED, I RECEIVED A WARNING/REMINDER TO FASTEN THE SEATBELT. AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS, THE CHIME AND WARNING MESSAGE STOPPED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE SEATBELT RECEPTACLE.

I HAD TWO TIRE SIDE WALL DEFECTS THAT RESULTED IN "BALLOONING" OF THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRES ARE PIRELLI 245/40/ R-18. THE CAR HAS 12,500 MILES ONLY. I FOUND OUT THE FIRST BIG BALLOON AT HOME AND NEXT DAY NOTICED THE SECOND ONE SMALLER BUT GROWING.
