Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Jetta NF, Arteon FL, Tiguan LWB, 2022 Taos, Jetta PA, Tiguan PA, 2021-2022 Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL vehicles. The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the infotainment software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 16, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91DV.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Tiguan, Taos, and 2021 Tiguan long wheel base (LWB) vehicles. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. The left or right rear suspension knuckles may corrode, crack, and break.

Risk. A broken rear suspension knuckle can cause a loss of stability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace one or both rear suspension knuckles, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 13, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 42L8.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Taos vehicles. The underhood fuel supply quick-connector may detach from the fuel supply line causing a fuel leak in the engine compartment.

Risk. A fuel leak may cause a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A fuel leak also increases the risk of fire in the presence of an ignition source.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect the connection and replace the fuel supply line and connector as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 31, 2021. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 20DB.

The brake hubs started smoking and got hot. 9/13/26 I was rear ended but no warning was initiated or airbag. now I have no brake pads and was unable to stop. I had an oil change due 30thousand miles but Affenburg in Shilo IL turned me away. I'm not happy with the maintenance people for not helping this last year. I was not informed of my last recall or brake extension. this is a new car 2022 I expect better safety reminders and connection from Volkswagen. The bad brake system doesn't work. I do love my Taos as I feel it was made for me but the company is bad about honoring warranty issues.

Head gasket was replaced due to no cap and causing fuel and engine issues. Multiple electrical issues where cat states multiple warnings.on dash turns.on and off by itself. Battery low voltage on dash have had it to dealer more then 3x and they say everything is fine. Suspenshion rear and front gave been given issues was told after bringing to my dealer that both where broken and they couldn't tell me why when there is no collision or anything that could have caused it. Front sensor has falsely detected objects and has thrown .e into emergency park while driving on many accasions and also was told they couldn't identify why

2022 TAOS - Without warning, impact, or external influence, the factory exterior paint on the roof panel completely lost adhesion and delaminated from the factory primer layer. The peeling area measures approximately 4x9 inches (roughly 10 inches diagonally) with jagged, rough edges, located directly in front of the panoramic sunroof assembly. The rough edges indicate an ongoing materials failure where the color topcoat is continuing to lift and separate cleanly from the e-coat, leaving the underlying primer layer completely intact. This layout proves zero stone chips, collision damage, or environmental exposure caused the failure. The loss of topcoat integrity compromises the structural body panels, exposing the roof to rapid rust degradation. The local dealership (Dublin Volkswagen in California) has documented the vehicle under multi-point inspection history (Invoice WCS169791) showing no structural damage to the area. Volkswagen Customer CARE has opened active corporate Case #07781838 regarding this systemic defect. STATUS: PENDING RETURN CALL FROM SERVICE MANAGER.

On [XXX], while driving through [XXX] in high-speed highway traffic, the vehicle suffered a sudden, catastrophic loss of throttle response and engine power. The instrument cluster displayed a solid Check Engine light alongside an Electronic Power Control (EPC) warning light and assist system failure notifications. The complete loss of acceleration forced the driver to coast across active highway lanes onto a dangerous shoulder, creating an immediate and severe collision risk. This sudden loss-of-drive-power symptom mirrors the safety hazard detailed under NHTSA Recall #23V-214 (VW Campaign 20DV). This breakdown is the third major powertrain failure on this vehicle across just 13,382 miles of ownership. Prior dealer-serviced failures include a failed camshaft seal requiring replacement (Feb 2025) and a complete Transmission Mechatronic Unit replacement (Aug 2025). 100% of all mechanical service and maintenance has been performed exclusively at an authorized Volkswagen dealership. While driving a 2022 Volkswagen Taos at about 25 mph on a straight, level two-lane road in a 25 mph zone, the vehicle moved left across the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle front-left corner to front-left corner. The driver reported hearing a loud pop before the vehicle moved left. COMPONENT: Left-front steering linkage. Scene photographs taken before towing show the two front wheels pointed in opposite directions, with the left front wheel turned well beyond the steering system's physical lock, which cannot occur with an intact linkage. The insurer's appraiser documented damage to the left-front inner tie rod, steering knuckle, lower control arm, wheel hub, and drive axle. The left front tire sidewall is torn and the rim is damaged. The vehicle and all components are preserved in post-crash condition and available for inspection. EVENT DATA: A Bosch CDR download of the airbag control module by an independent forensic engineering firm recorded the five seconds before impact: steering wheel angle within 4 degrees of center throughout and 0 degrees at the final sample; speed 24.2 to 24.9 mph; steady light throttle; no braking; no ABS activity. The vehicle was not steered across the center line. WARNINGS: None. A full-system diagnostic scan the day after the crash found no stored fault codes in the steering, brake, or airbag modules. The transmission completely failed, first it was showing emergency transmission in safe mode messages, if you stopped the car turned it off and back on it would go away. After getting a transmission flush the day after my car's transmission completely failed...leaving me in the middle of the road with no power to go forward or backwards. I got towed back to the dealership and am basically being told to replace the transmission entirely with no reason as to why this has happened at only 57,000 miles. Yes it is available for inspection if needed at the dealership. My safety was put at risk because I was stranded in the middle of the road with no way to move my car without towing it. There are other reproductions of this from other customers online I found with similar issues. It has only been inspected by the dealership. There were "emergency transmission in safe mode" messages 2 days prior to the trip to the dealership.

A recurring fuel-odor and drivability problem began while the vehicle was under manufacturer warranty and was never permanently resolved. In September 2022, a Volkswagen dealer documented code P2421 for an EVAP system vent valve stuck open and performed a software update. In June 2024, another Volkswagen dealer documented a strong fuel smell intermittently entering the passenger compartment but found no leak and made no repair. In April 2025, the vehicle was reported to sputter when accelerating from a stop. In July 2025, fuel odor at startup, poor fuel economy, and slow acceleration were again reported, but no leak was found and the vehicle was declared to be operating normally. In June 2026, the vehicle developed an EPC warning and codes P0316 and P0302, resulting in diagnosis of a cylinder 2 injector problem. In September 2026, another repair facility documented continued gas smell, hesitation, possible misfire, cold-start code P0316, and a damaged intake-pipe O-ring causing an air leak. Fuel odor and drivability concerns continued. On September 22, 2026, Volkswagen Customer CARE advised that the vehicle should not be driven until the fuel-leak concern is resolved and instructed that it be towed to an authorized Volkswagen dealership. My concern is that a potentially safety-related fuel/EVAP and drivability defect was repeatedly reported over several years but was never permanently identified or corrected. 2022 VW Blue Taos. January 2026, paint was feeling from driver side door and hood. The vehicle was under corrosion warranty. The dealership saw the photos taken, stated there was no corrosion and it appeared to be an adhesion issue, which would not be covered under warranty. Volkswagen CARES states the same. The issue has progressed in the areas, leaving large spots of exposed body.

This vehicle has a known manufacturer defect of the head gasket, causing coolant to leak out, and possible engine overheating. This issue was announced in a service bulletin by Volkswagen in 2023 but a recall was not issued. I did not find out about this until after my warranty expired, and the dealership recommended a $5,000 replacement.

I bought my 2022 VW Taos with only 16,000 miles and one previous owner. In 2023. In 2025 with only 42,000 miles the head gaskets were leaking and needed replaced. This was a COMMON issue that somehow isn’t a recall? Yet 90% of complaints on this list, including mine are for this exact reason. It was under warranty and was fixed, however in 2026 with only 68,000 miles my ECP, ABS, check engine light, and emergency transmission light all are on. My car is currently stuck in 2nd gear as a precaution to not destroy the transmission. The mechanism needed to fix this was quoted to me as being 1,500 to 2,000 JUST FOR THE PART! Not including labor and other fixes to go along with it. This isn’t cheap, reliable or safe. And the car is pretty much a waste at this point.

My 2022 Taos has major paint defects where the paint is just peeling off. I took it to dealer around 40k miles and told them about it and they said it was out of warranty already and nothing they could do for me. After doing research I see many other people with same car and same complaint online so I took it to a body shop and they confirmed what everyone online is saying that my vehicle appears to never have gotten primer before it was painted in the areas that the paint is chipping away

My 2022 Toas AWD stalls while driving at speed, mimicking the failing fuel pump recall #23V-214 but the VIN is not included on the recall list.

No back up camera. Entire display screen went black. Software crash? Tried rebooting by holding down buttons, locking and walking away. Nothing still black. No words on the screen. This concerns me because of the kids that play in the yard and my older kids that back out with the car. It will cost me $200 just to perform a scan for faulty codes. And then, if it’s a dead control module, just the part is $900. Can’t afford this, but need the back up camera. Car is no longer under warranty. Shouldn’t this be a safety recall? The side panels next to the speedometer won’t load anything either. Anything except the speed won’t come up in the middle, just loops and says “starting compass” then “compass is not available”. No setting on the display screen, no radio or phone, etc. just black. The speed, mi. to empty, temp., and cruise control work. Along with the gas gage and temp. gage. I read it may need a USB update using an OTIS machine? Infotainment update.? TSB-91-23-03?

On July 30, 2026, while driving my 2022 Volkswagen Taos out of my apartment parking lot, the EPC and check engine lights illuminated. The vehicle shook, lagged, stalled, and could not accelerate normally. I parked and turned it off. An authorized Volkswagen dealer diagnosed a faulty spark plug. On August 12, the same failure recurred. The EPC and check engine lights illuminated, the vehicle shook, and it again lost acceleration. The dealer attributed the misfire to poor fuel caused by Arizona monsoon and dust-storm conditions and added a fuel additive. However, the only major dust storm around these dates occurred on August 19, after the first two incidents. No fuel-test results were provided to support this explanation. On August 20, the failure occurred a third time while I was driving on a major road. The vehicle shook and experienced a severe loss of propulsion and acceleration. The check engine light remained on after the engine was turned off. I had to restart the vehicle three times before I could move it into a parking lot. I was less than one mile from entering a highway, and the sudden loss of acceleration in traffic created a serious collision risk. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. On August 21, the dealer again attributed the misfire to poor fuel. It added fuel-system cleaner, filled the tank with 91-octane fuel, and test-drove the vehicle, but the misfire remained. The technician then reported that three spark plugs were fouled and required replacement. The s

The infotainment system on my 2022 Volkswagen Taos began displaying a persistent "frozen software update" notification approximately six days prior to June 28, 2026. This condition disabled normal use of the radio and, most significantly, the vehicle's backup camera — a federally required safety feature. The vehicle was brought to an authorized VW dealership for a scheduled 110,000-mile service completed on June 27, 2026, with resolution of this software freeze as the primary concern. The issue remained unresolved following that visit. Prior guidance to leave the vehicle running while parked to allow the update to complete was followed with no change in the condition. The vehicle was returned to the dealership on the evening of June 28, 2026, with an additional appointment scheduled for the morning of June 30, 2026, specifically to address the unresolved defect. As of this filing, the backup camera and radio functions remain impaired due to this unresolved software failure, despite a dealer service visit.

Per VW TSB 15-23-01, Volkswagen explicitly admits that the original engine production head gasket design is defective. A leaking head gasket can cause sudden engine overheating, power loss, or catastrophic engine failure while driving. This seems like a major , dangerous issue that should be covered under a recall

I am submitting this complaint because the driver's seat belt does not fit me properly despite using all available factory adjustments. I am an adult female who is 5 feet 2 inches tall. The driver's seat is adjusted to its highest position, and the shoulder belt height adjuster is set to its lowest position. Even with these adjustments, the shoulder belt crosses and rubs against my neck instead of resting across the middle of my shoulder and chest. This has been an issue since I purchased the vehicle. The discomfort has become increasingly severe over time and now causes me to repeatedly reposition the belt while driving because it presses against my neck. I am concerned that the restraint system does not properly accommodate shorter adult drivers. While the seat belt remains fastened, the fit is poor enough that it creates a distraction during vehicle operation and raises concerns about occupant protection in a crash. I am requesting that NHTSA evaluate whether the seat belt geometry in the 2022 Volkswagen Taos provides an appropriate fit for shorter drivers and whether similar complaints have been reported by other owners.

On 7/9/2026, my 2022 VW Taos was brought to the dealer for being severely underpowered, check engine lights on, and a strong raw fuel smell inside the vehicle. On 7/10/2026, the dealer stated the vehicle was ready, claiming they replaced a turbo charge pipe O-ring. The service advisor verbally stated the vehicle had been successfully test-driven for 5 miles on streets and the highway. However, official paperwork only stated "cleared faults verified no leaks in system, vehicle is now operating as designed." Immediately upon driving home on the highway, as the vehicle reached 70–75 mph under load, a loud whistling noise and a sudden, dangerous loss of propulsion occurred simultaneously. The vehicle was returned to the dealer on 7/10/2026. On 7/13/2026, the vehicle was picked up after a second repair where the dealer admitted the plastic charge pipe (05E-145-673-Q) was actually fractured and had completely blown off the turbocharger during my highway drive, generating fault code P227900 (Intake Air System Leak). Upon reviewing the paperwork from both visits, I discovered the odometer had only increased by exactly 1 mile during the first service visit. The dealer completely failed to road-test the vehicle under actual highway boost loads before certifying it as safe, which directly caused a catastrophic structural engine failure and an emergency safety hazard at 75 mph.

While driving at highway speeds, the a low coolant caution light came on. We immediately pulled over before the engine overheated and added coolant and brought the vehicle in for repairs. This Taos currently has 43,000 miles and needs its head gasket replaced for the SECOND time. The first head gasket was replaced on 12/23 with 16,000 miles under a technical bulletin by VW. This is a know issue for this vehicle. With a head gasket failure, this can lead to engine overheating and seizing. This needs to be a recall.

There have been multiple complaints of the mechatronics unit failing prematurely. I am facing that right now and it should be under warranty but is being challenged. So many people have mentioned the mechatronics unit failing prematurely upon research and discussion with the dealership. The car stalled on the freeway and I was unable to accelerate. It was confirmed and being worked on by the dealer. All regular maintenance has been done. “Trans in emergency mode. You can keep driving.” Showed up 5 minutes before the car stalled

The engine coolant is leaking and the cylinder head gasket is leaking at the back of the engine. This requires full replacement. This is a known issue with Technical Service Bulletin 15-23-01 from Volkswagen back in 2023, and both VW and our Dealership are refusing to cover the costs of replacement.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the engine seized. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be inspected; however, the failure was not duplicated. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; but the failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed that an adjustment to the fuel system was performed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The failure was persistent. The contact stated that the failure had occurred with minor children inside the vehicle. In addition, the contact noticed a fuel odor on the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was later towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with high and low fuel pump failures. The contact was informed that the high and low fuel pumps needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,009.

The systems failing are electrical, engine, and fuel/propulsion systems. VW TAOS 2022 purchased Sept. 2023. Two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, I'm driving down the street and the vehicle began to lose power and start slowing down. It eventually cut off. About a week later, I experienced the same issue. I called the dealer and they had me to bring my car in. I was told that they couldn't find the problem, but that the car was misfiring. They "repaired" and returned it to me. As I drove on local streets and the interstate, I have problems with acceleration. The car does not pick up speed like it should and lags behind and then suddenly jerks forward (even after battery rest times during a stop). It rides a bit rough. Occasionally, my dashboard blacks out while I'm driving. My auto-start doesn't always work, even after the fob batteries have been changed. My gas seems to disappear and I find myself gassing up more often than I should be. I would contact the dealership, they'd coordinate service around my scheduled service dates and claim that they could never find or duplicate the problems that I'm having. The problems continue. My engine light came on while I was driving and stayed on. I was told to bring in my car. The dealership kept it from July-Sept 2025, replacing parts and then returned it to me. Two days later the engine light came back on and I had to return to the dealer again for service. After leaving a parking lot (Jun 2026), two blocks down the street the TAOS

The EVAP line has a fault, stuck open, affects nothing whatsoever. But has every single light on the dash on. It tells me the brakes don't work, the air bags don't work, the cruise doesn't work. Everything. The confusing thing is some things actually work and some don't. The brakes work, the cruise doesn't. The auto detection doesn't work. What's worse, you can't replace that part. No one sells it. This is absolutely horrendous and very dangerous.

Had my car in at a Volkswagen dealership for its routine maintenance they called me back, letting me know that I had the head gasket leak and that coolant was leaking.

Head gasket failure is a known issue for this model. Some owners report failure at 12k miles in for quite some time. I am now faced with this known issue VW has had time to remedy. If it is a known failure why not take care of it especially if it spans across 3 models 2022 - 2024. I should not have to absorb this type of repair 4 years 57k miles in on my vehicle. Of course, everything pops up right as warranties expire. I was refused even dealer “good faith” for being 7,000 miles over the threshold VW powertrain warranty of 4 years 50k miles. Now to find $4638.83 for parts plus whatever labor will be.

The vehicle has intermittent hesitation/delayed acceleration from a stop and during low-speed stop-and-go driving. At times, engine RPM increases before the vehicle responds or accelerates normally. This creates a safety concern when entering traffic, turning, merging, or accelerating from a stopped position because the vehicle does not always respond predictably to throttle input. The concern was reported to a Volkswagen dealer in writing during a prior repair process and was later formally documented on a repair order as hesitation on acceleration. The vehicle has prior Volkswagen repair history involving a coolant warning/low coolant concern, head gasket repair, and later camshaft seal/belt cover repair. After the most recent repair, the delayed acceleration/hesitation concern remained unresolved. The vehicle is currently under review with Volkswagen Customer Care, but the safety-related drivability concern has not yet been fully resolved. Supporting documents include the 2025 written report of jerking from a stop, the 2026 repair order documenting hesitation on acceleration, and post-repair emails showing the issue remained unresolved. After I notified the dealer in writing that the hesitation/delayed acceleration concern remained after the most recent repair, I did not receive a documented response or resolution, and the concern remains unresolved with Volkswagen Customer Care.

The car does not accelerate when the gas is pressed. It will delay, jerk or accelerate slower than it's supposed to.

Electronic parking brake engaged randomly when getting gas and would not disengage letting me leave the pump

Clicking noise coming from the driver side tire/axle when making right turns only. The diagnostic at the VW service department was a faulty CV axle is the cause of the noise. VW service associate recommended replacing the CV axle. The vehicle only has 6k miles but unfortunately is no longer under warranty. According to the VW forum on line there are several issues like this on this particular model.

Leaking head gasket

The SOS module has failed. THIS MEANS AUTOMATIC NOTIFICATION OF A CRASH OR SIGNIFICANT MECHANICAL FAILURE IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. THE MODLE HAS A BATTERY THAT FAILS IS IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS REPLACEMENT OF THE MODULE AT A COST OF $600 TO $800.

This vehicle has ongoing drivability issues that have not been resolved despite multiple repair attempts involving engine-related components and repairs. The issue began in November 2024 while the vehicle was under warranty with coolant and engine warnings. I was forced to reduce speed and maneuver to the side of the road to avoid being rear-ended. The sudden loss of power in traffic placed me and other drivers at risk of a collision. After turning the vehicle off and restarting it, both warning lights disappeared. Notably, on April 3, 2026 (60,428 miles), I had an oil change performed.
