2022 Suzuki GSX1300R

Defect. Suzuki Motor USA, LLC (Suzuki) is recalling certain 2022-2024 GSX1300R (Hayabusa) motorcycles. The master cylinder internal rubber components may swell due to contamination from the brake fluid cap diaphragm, which can result in a blocked brake fluid port. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 122, "Motorcycle Brake Systems."

Risk. A blocked brake fluid port can extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder body and brake fluid cap diaphragm, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Owners may contact Suzuki Customer Service at 1-714- 572-1490. Suzuki's number for this recall is 3A04. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 23V-088. Motorcycles previously recalled under 23V-088 will need to have the new remedy completed.

The contact owns a 2022 Suzuki GSX1300R. The contact stated that after arriving to his destination and turning off the motorcycle, after returning to the motorcycle the motorcycle failed to start immediately. The contact stated that after several attempts the motorcycle restarted. After restarting the motorcycle, the motorcycle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The contact stated that the failure never occurred during cold starts, only after the motorcycle had been running for a while and had reached operating temperatures. No warning lights were illuminated. The motorcycle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure, and surmised that fuel the contact was using had insufficient octane levels, resulting in combustion issues. The contact was advised to use a higher-octane fuel, which the contact used; however, the higher-octane fuel had not resolved the failure. The motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and an engineer was sent to inspect the motorcycle. However, the engineer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the engineers were unsatisfactory because he had only attempted to cold start the motorcycle. The failure mileage was 6,000.

The contact owns a 2022 Suzuki GSX 1300RR motorcycle. The contact stated as he parked the vehicle and deployed the kick stand into the downward park (P) position, when he was dismounting the vehicle, and as he was swinging his right leg over the saddle, the kick stand independently returned into the up position. The up position is where the kick stand rests when the vehicle is being driven. The vehicle fell on its left side trapping the contacts left leg. The contact was pinned under the vehicle, with the help of a passerby the vehicle was set back on its wheels and off of his leg. The contact was shaken but unhurt. The contact stated that the kick stand failure where it independently returns into the up or position had occurred one other time. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer to have the damage to the left side of the vehicle repaired and asked about the kick stand failure and was advised by the dealer that it was not a failure and that the kick stand was functioning normally. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
