For the second time we are getting the intermittent "Service Electronic Braking System" warning on our 2017 Ram 3500HD. The first on 4/21/2020 @ 15293 miles resulted in replacement of the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit and Controller Module under warranty. Now the same issue is occurring again @ 26500 miles and of course out of warranty . When this happens both the Anti Lock Brakes and Stability Traction Control functions are not operative per the warning lamps. This can be a significant safety concern. Twice in 10,000 miles should trigger a concern and maybe a redesign-recall..

Service ABS which is a known problem
Abs hydraulic motor and control unit fails and lights flash and ding on the dashboard this is my third pump being replaced and now not under warranty. Also notice alot of trucks having the same issue
My Ram 3500 DRW has about 45000 miles and it now requires the replacement of the hydraulic control unit (HCU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module. I discovered this issue prior to the warning light flashing and sounding when I had to do sudden braking in order to avoid an obstacle in the road encountered during a storm last week. I just barely got my Ram to stop and not swerve off into the ditch as the pumping of the brakes did not stop the truck. The truck just slid as if it did not have ABS capability. I was told by the Ram dealership in Spartanburg SC that these two repair parts are not available due to increased demand due to what the technician said was a "known issue" for the last couple of years. You cannot even order these parts today as the Ram parts system doesn't even allow you to add the parts to your shopping cart. To add insult to injury, the service manager told me that these two repair parts needed to repair my truck will not be available until August 2023! This is my work truck and I do not have another vehicle to use as I wait for these parts to be available. I can continue to drive the truck but will do so at my and my family's risk all the while with the ABS warning message flashing and warning chime sound constantly dinging. Not to mention not having emergency braking capability when it is needed the most.
WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT FOR SERVICE ABS / TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. WE USE THIS VRHICLE TO PULL A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER AND WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT BRAKE FAILURE.
I have had my ram 3500 for 6000 miles and first time had a issue with the abs and traction control light flashing and disabling abs and traction control took to dealer they replaced the abs module and reprogrammed test drove with no issues not even 3000 miles later the issue starts again I take it back to the dealer and they state that it is a known issue with the module and hcu needs to be replaced quoted over 1000 dollars and said the parts are not able to be ordered till August of 2023
The reason for this report is to let you know that my anti lock brake system has been malfunctioning for at least 10k miles. This is the same symptoms that you can read about on the internet. Flashing warning lights on the dash board and loss of cruise control. The warning alarm for the most part now is alerting continuously. When it first started the Chrysler dealer said that it was no longer in warranty. The truck is still like new and has 55k miles. I would like to see Chrysler do what is RIGHT and correct this widespread safety issue!! [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being driven at approximately 75 MPH, there was a sudden drop on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The driver waited until the vehicle decelerated before being able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact stated that the rear passenger’s side wheel had detached. The wheel hub assembly, brake pads, rotors, and studs on all four wheels were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels). The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I have the ABS light and traction control light coming on intermittently and the warning "Service ABS system" and "Service Electronic Braking System. Code is C0020-01 - ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure. ABS module and HCU are replaced under warranty once.
IVE HAD THE ABS PUMP CONTROL MODULE GO OUT THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the "Service ABS system" warning light intermittently illuminated; however, the warning light disappeared while driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the local dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,200. The contact stated that plenty of other FCA vehicles have the same exact issues. When the contact mentioned their experience with their local dealer, they were told that this happens all the time but the vehicle should still be safe to drive. The dealer was unwilling to open a case with the manufacturer and told the contact that it would take several months to receive parts and get it repaired.
Hydraulic control unit/ABS module failure.
On December 14th, I was driving my 2017 Ram 3500 with 95,000 miles down the road when I encountered a tree completely blocking the roadway. When I applied the brakes I heard a pop and the brake pedal went the the floor. At this point I had no brakes and was forced to hit the tree. Thankfully it was in a rural area and no one was killed because of the failure. My safety was defiantly put at risk because of this failure. Once stopped I was able to look under the hood and found the top bolt that holds the brake master cylinder to the firewall sheared completely off. This caused the brake master cylinder to fall away from the firewall and disabled all braking functions. I had the vehicle towed to a Ram Dealer and then contacted Ram (Stellantis) for a reason and solution to fix the failure. They sent an engineering analysis associate to look at the the truck finally on the January 9th. They then sent a very generic letter on the 12th stating that they don't believe it is a manufacturing issue. They will give the dealer or myself no further information on what they found, what the cause was, or how the dealer should proceed to fix the problem. The vehicle is still currently sitting at the Ram Dealer and has not been fixed if you would like to inspect it. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior problems associated with this failure. It was a sudden and catastrophic failure of the braking system.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic stated that the ABS sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred several times. On one occasion, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was on backorder until January 2023. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Brakes not functioning properly intermittently getting warning “Service electronic braking system” “Service ABS System”. The warning comes on then goes away. No consistency on when the message comes on and when it goes away.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the brakes became inoperable. The contact was able to use the gears and parking brake to slow the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder, ABS control module, and hydraulic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Braking ability is very diminished while driving, particularly dangerous while pulling a trailer or load in bed. Brake pads are good. Google search showed many complaints on this particular Brocken with these trucks. This one is doing the same thing. This has done this since purchased in October 2021.
Driving on highway back right side wheel studs broke off, wheel separated from vehicle.
5 of the 8 wheel studs on the left rear tire suddenly sheared off while my husband was driving the vehicle. This occurred without warning and with no provoking event - just driving normally. My husband was able to safely pull over and was not hurt but it could have potentially caused a crash and/or serious bodily harm to him or others on the roadway. I contacted the dealer knowing that a recall had been issued for similar year trucks (we received a recall for this on our Ram 4500) and they rudely told me that there was not a recall on this truck and they would not fix it. I do have a picture and the shears were all fresh suggesting that it occurred all at once. The dealer will not look at it for 30 days so we are making other arrangements to have the repair done but I worry about the other tires. If there are multiple year recalls in RAM trucks of varying models for the same thing that would suggest that this event has occurred from a similar manufacturing defect. Dodge needs to take responsibility and offer a solution before someone else is hurt or killed. I don't care about the money. I care about the lives of the people driving RAM trucks and the manufacturer says it is not on them.
Unknown. The vehicle while driving will violently start shaking in the front. End. The vehicle shakes approximately 10" or more side to side. I have heard it called the Ram death shake. Had vehicle towed to the dealership. Dealer said they could not find anything wrong. It happened again several time after leaving the dealership. Now I can only drive less than 65 mph.max for fear I it is going to get me killed.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light would intermittently illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where a diagnostic test confirmed that there was an electrical short between the ABS hydraulic control unit and the electronic module which rendered the ABS defective. The contact was informed that both parts to repair the failure were on backorder. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The vehicle had a sudden acceleration problem and the driver ended up in a big crash. The driver is in the hospital with many injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer before, at the beginning of March, because the check engine light was on and the throttle control light on and the truck didn't shift properly and dealer said that he doesn't have a transmission mechanic for about a month. They worked on the recalls and the oil and fuel filters change. Afterwards I took the truck to another shop. They changed the oil at the transmission, but the truck showed the same messages on the cluster almost immediately. I took the truck to another mechanic and they changed the solenoids in the transmission, but in a short time the same messages (Check engine light and throttle control light) came on the cluster. When these light came on the truck didn't shift properly so I spoke with another mechanic about the problem and he programmed me for an appointment on August 4th. This date is too late now, because on July 25th I lost the truck in a terrible accident due to sudden acceleration of the truck and the driver could not stop it. The brakes failed and he tried to slow it down driving it against the concrete curve but he couldn't, the truck kept on speeding then he hit a big tree in order not to crash other cars on the road or the people in the driveway close to the place of the accident.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, several ABS related warning lights appeared on the instrument panel with a warning chime coming from the vehicle. Due to the failure, the cruise control failed to operate as needed. The contact continued driving and the warning lights disappeared and the vehicle resumed normal driving function. The dealer was notified of the failure and a diagnostic test revealed a defective ABS control module. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic for an alignment check; however, the dealer and the independent mechanic could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I made appointment with Ram dealership. The letter said 2 or so hours. The advisor stated, it will take all day because I was a recall and they will not have the diesel mechanic stop working on other vehicles for a recall. Which makes no sense since it's not my fault The truck not safe to drive. In addition, I depend on my truck because I use it for my work - hot shot (delivery). I been waiting at dealership for over 3 hours and they still have not even looked at it. The dealership is not prioritizing my vehicle, although it should since I am a customer after all and this is a recall from the manufacturer. Dealerships should be made aware that a vehicle should be fixed as they come in, not based on whether you are paying or not. This dealership always does this when warranty or recalls and it's frustrating. It's not fair for us to lose this much time because we are not paying. How is it my fault the vehicle is defective? After all it was not caused because of my driving but because it was not manufactured correctly. I like Ram but the dealership need to better understand the customer whether paying or not. This is not fair and is annoying.
The contact owns a 2017 Ram 3500. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (Wheels). The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The part was not available for the recall repair. The contact had experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Driver's seatbelt comes un-latched while driving. Driver's seatbelt does not latch.
Front turn signals, driver side headlight, passenger side fog light all went out at the same time. Tested bulbs and all are good. Message on dash said they were out and yes they were. Checked grounds all good. Found the big plug under fuse box moved it around and lights came back on. Connectors are very lose in the plug we will we need to change harness?
2017 Dodge Ram 3500. Consumer stated they have experienced numerous issues with vehicle from, power steering, electrical and fuel pump issues. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING A HARD TICKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE LIFTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR THE ENGINE REPLACED.
MY 2017 RAM 3500 6.7L DUALLY WITH ONLY 18,312 MILES ON IT HAD A TREAD SEPARATION ON A FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN REAR TIRE. HAD ANOTHER ONE PREVIOUSLY LATE LAST YEAR ON A FACTORY FRONT TIRE AT 14,412 MILES. LUCKILY I DISCOVERED BOTH WITH CUPPING OF THE TIER AND ROAD VIBRATION BEFORE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE FACTORY NEXEN ROADIAN 10 PLY TIRES ON THE RAM TRUCKS ARE CRAP AND DANGEROUS AND I'VE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SAME FACTORY TIRES, SOME WITH CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. RAM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED AND REPLACED THESE TIRES AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS! I USE THIS TRUCK TO PULL A 34 FT HORSE TRAILER WITH $50,000 HORSES, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, MY WIFE IS USUALLY OUT ON THE ROAD WITH IT ALONE AND IT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC TO HAVE A FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A HEAVY TRAILER. RAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR CHOICE OF TIRES.
BOUGHT TRUCK IN 10-10-2020 AND I STILL YET TO HAVE MY LICENSE PLATE. DEALERSHIP STILL HASN'T RETURNED MY CALLS. AND DMV SHOWS THAT MY VIN ISN'T VALID.
PART NUMBER 68310865AB ENGINE OIL FILTER ADAPTER THIS IS THE THIRD PART FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT SEEMS UNAVAILABLE OVER 16,000 ON BACK ORDER AND THEY HAVE YET TO ISSUE A RECALL

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATIONS OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 19V818000 (EQUIPMENT, ENGINE, AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 20V036000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT CENTRAL VALLEY CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (4460 MCHENRY AVE, MODESTO, CA 95356) WAS CONTACTED AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER RECENTLY INFORMED HIM THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK-ORDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. OCCASIONALLY WHEN YOU STEP ON THE CLUTCH TO STOP THE VEHICLE OR CHANGE GEARS, THE CLUTCH PEDAL JUST GOES STRAIGHT TO FLOOR AND DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND SOMETIMES WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GO BACK INTO A GEAR. ALSO WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES YOU CANNOT CHANGE GEARS. AFTER THE FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE I CHECKED ALL OF THE FLUID LEVELS AND FOUND THAT THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR FOR THE CLUTCH CONTROL ASSEMBLY WAS LOW ON FLUID. I'VE HAD TO REFILL THIS RESERVOIR SEVERAL TIMES NOW, WHICH HELPS THE ISSUE OF CHANGING GEARS HOWEVER THE FLUID STILL SEEMS TO BE LEAKING OUT FROM SOMEWHERE, AND I'M CONCERNED THAT IT IS LEAKING SOMEWHERE INTERNALLY IN THE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH AREA.
THERE ARE TWO OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE; VB2, ENGINE COOLING FAN & W00 SHIFTER CABLE. I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO DEALERS & FCA ABOUT GETTING THE VEHICLE FIXED SINCE AUGUST & AM TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE RECALL NOTICES STATE THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE, YET THE MANUFACTURER IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE PARTS TO MAKE IT SAFE. SO I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE USED IN ITS CURRENT STATE.
MY RAM 3500 2017 LOST SHIFTING IN AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS TOWED TO HERMISTON CHRYSLER IN OREGON 9/21/2020. THEY SAY WARRANTY REQUIRES THEM TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. PARTS WERE SENT TO FIX IT. NOW WARRANTY SAYS SEND PICTURES. MIGHT SEND NEW TRANSMISSION. I MADE A 1400 MILE TRIP THERE THIS WEEK AND CAME HOME IN ANOTHER RENTAL. MY PICKUP CAMPER IS STRANDED THERE.
FUEL LEAK IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. FUEL FILTER HOUSING WAS REPLACED DUE TO LEAKAGE AROUND FUEL HEATER ELEMENTS IN HOUSING. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAME FUEL FILTER HOUSING THAT BROUGHT ABOUT RAM RECALL P65. I HAVE CONTACTED RAM AND FILED A REPORT AS WELL AS RETAINED THE FAILED PART.
I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE (NHTSA 19V-818000) IN NOVEMBER, 2019 FOR DEFECTIVE ENGINE COOLING FAN WHICH HAS CAUSED ENGINE FIRES. IT'S BEEN NEARLY ONE YEAR AND REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS LONG DELAY IS UNREASONABLE AND REPRESENTS GROSS NEGLIGENCE.
MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY FROM THE FEEDER, MY TRUCK HAD A DELAY (2-3 SECOND) IN ACCELERATION.
RAM HAS A RECALL FOR THE DRAG LINK, MY DEALERSHIP HAS PREFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR WHICH IS TO WELD SOLID THE DRAG LINK THIS IS NOT A PROPER REPAIR. I WOULD SAY THIS IS WHAT A BACKYARD MECHANIC MIGHT DO TO ENTER A DEMO DERBY NOT A REPAIR ON A NEW TRUCK UNDER WARRANTY. THIS ITEM CAME ON THE TRUCK AS AN ADJUSTABLE PART OF THE STEERING SYSTEM AND RAMS FIX IS TO WELD THIS PART MAKING IT NO LONGER ADJUSTABLE AND THE STEERING CAN NO LONGER BE ALIGNED. MY STEERING WHEEL IS CROOKED AND RAM HAS TOLD ME THAT'S TO BAD WE ARE GOING TO DO NOTHING FOR YOU THAT'S RAMS CUSTOMER CARE NOT THE DEALER...
NEXEN ROADIAN HTX TIRES ARE UNSAFE. TIRE WITH 17741 MILES HAS "SLIPPED" BELT. FRONT TIRE WAS MAKING A "BUMPING" NOISE ON 1 AUGUST; MCKINNEY RAM DEALER, EASLEY SC, DIAGNOSED LEFT FRONT TIRE AS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT.
AFTER ONLY 57K MILES THE FUEL SENSOR / FUEL PUMP IS MALFUNCTIONING. FUEL GAUGE IS NOT WORKING. I BELIEVE NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TRUCK CONSTITUTES A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH RAM TRUCKS AS REPORTED 100S OF TIMES ON LINE.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
