2018 Ram 2500 complaints

ABS/Electronic brake indicator light on continuous, no Dodge repair facility cannot seem to fix issue. This should be a recall item.

1. My truck is randomly throwing a C0020-01 code. 2. When the code is active the traction control and cruise control are disabled abruptly causing a safety concern. 3. Using scan tool I have verified that this code is active. Have contacted Mopar and they suggested replacing the ABS module and /or the HPU for the ABS. 4. No, only self diagnostics. 5. Fist happened on or around May 1st, 2024. Warning message on the heads up displays "C0020-01 Active, ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL-GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE".

My ABS/TRACTION CONTROL Electrical warning is coming on and shuts my cruise off. When driving at highway speeds and towing, this has caused me to swerve some and come close to be rear ended. I had the system replaced at 48000 miles for the problem and it is doing it again at 103000 miles. I can tap on the electrical motor on the system and get another week of use without warnings

Vehicle keeps getting ABS control valve general power fault. Code scanned is C002001. Indications in vehicle are 1. Cruise control suddenly disengages if in use. 2. Instrument warnings of "ABS Control Failure" and "Electronic Braking System Failure" continue flashing for 10 seconds or sometimes constantly. Keeps happening to me on long trips away from home. Never locally. Gives the driver no idea if system is safe to drive or not. RAM forums on line are full of these complaints. I believe a recall is in order.

Intermittent ABS Light on slippery roads. C0020-01 Code found by dealership. Warranty does not cover failure.

2018 Ram 2500 diesel truck, ABS braking system was intermittent and now has stopped working all together affecting the cruise control and the ability to stop without locking up the brakes all together. This has started a couple of years ago and the dealer said everyone is having the problem and parts are hard to get.

The ABS Light is on and my ABS braking system on my 2018 RAM 2500 doesn't work. I drive on icy roads for at least 6 months out of the year. I need to have the ABS working on my vehicle so I can stop on icy or wet roads and not cause an accident. I scanned the code C0020-01(ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure) using my Innova 6100P scan tool. The problem first occurred on [XXX]. RAM wants over $1,000 to replace the defective component. Dishman Dodge/Ram in Spokane, WA has confirmed this problem with their scan tool. My 2018 RAM 2500 is available for inspection upon request. ABS Service light flashes on after rainy days and or going over a bumpy road.

Abs light comes on. Part is not available

While driving while it was raining earlier this year, the abs/ anti lock braking system service initiated on the dashboard. It now acitivates intermittenly. During my investigation into the issue I've found that this is a persistent problem with the Ram 2500 /2018 year model and newer and that there is a class action lawsuit that has been filed. I used a OBD11 reader and it threw a code ( C0020-01 )

ABS and Traction control light indicators on dash appeared intermittently. After diagnosing from the dealership, it is advised to changed the Antilock Brake System module. However, the dealership advised there is a block and that they must first change the Hydraulic control unit, although they say it is perfectly fine. While we have not had an accident (luckily) it appears there is an ongoing investigation and multiple lawsuits against Dodge/RAM/Chrysler for this systemic problem of faulty ABS on 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500. My 2018 RAM 2500 only has 36,000 miles. This failure is premature and potentially very dangerous. The dealer could not advise whether my truck was safe to drive or not even if the indicator lights were off or on. I have not yet had the HCU replacement completed, however will have it completed next week. I am submitting this incident report as a pro-active report as this is a serious safety issue and one that is systemic across too many 2017-2018 Ram 2500. The manufacture is not allowing replacement of the ABS Module until the HCU is repaired which is an additional (Double) cost to the consumer.

The service electronic brake system light flashes intermittently, along with the traction control light and ABS light. Seems to occur when for no reason.

The ABS control module on my truck goes in and out from working to not working constantly dinging. Because of the ABS control module being defective it makes the traction control faulty as well which I have almost gotten in numerous car accidents at this point living in Florida with the rain and sliding all over the place. I have tried researching this and it is a huge problem with the 2018 RAM 2500 trucks. I have tried to reach out to dealerships and there is no solutions they just say that the part is on back order for months and there is nothing that can be done at this time due to the overwhelming demand with people experiencing the same issue.

The ABS light and traction control light comes on and off over and over again. When it is on, its seems to not work as well on slick surfaces. I have seen that there are numerous complaints of the same thing on these trucks. I have been told it is not under warranty by a dealer. Only 21,000 miles. I purchased the truck in 2019. I put a code reader on the truck and it came up with C0020-01. 1. ABS Pump Motor Control 2. Recirculation pump- General Electrical Failure. The truck is avalible for inspection.

Purchased vehicle new. ABS and TC lights presented on dash intermittent. Cruise control inoperative when lights on. Had issue under warranty and had components replaced to resolve issue and now happening again. Afraid to have family in vehicle with inoperative safety systems.

ABS and traction control light and electronic braking systems warning lights are on. The parts are not being produced by the manufacturer per them. This is a safety concern as these trucks pull heavy loads. This is a systemic issue with 2018-2019 RAM 2500 and 3500. The issue has been inspected by dealer and repair shop. Manufacturer is unresponsive to owners and dealers. There are currently 2 class action lawsuits on this matter.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS control module. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired because the part was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Abs module/hcu are intermittently shutting off and on. Brakes work, but you loose your abs. The problem has not been fixed . The abs module is on back order everywhere. It’s a hard part to find new or used .

Hydrolic control unit and ABS module failure. Diagnosed by independent mechanic and confirmed common issue by the dealer. Cannot get the parts to fix.

CONSTANT & iNTERMITTENT system notification (Dash lights and chime tones) of required ABS serving, Traction Control failure, and DISCONNECT of Speed Control system. The problem has been on going for past 15,000 miles. NOTE: Took vehicle to RAM Dealer in Kerrville Texas and they determined no problems despite dashboard messages and lights. Dealer states that they are NOT aware of ANY issues with ABS and Traction Control on any of the 2018 RAM 2500 vehicles.

The contact was informed of the NHTSA Action Number: PE22012 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.

Service anti-lock brakes and service eclectic brake message and lights for ABS and Traction control lights flash on and off at random time for no reason. When this happens the cruise control also stops working.

ABS and traction control lights come on intermittently. Cruise control won’t work when this happens. Problem seems to be a wiring issue and mainly happens during wet conditions and then stops after engine compartment warms up. I’m guessing ABS brake’s won’t function when light is on.

ABS FAILURE, CONSISTANT "SERVICE ELECTRONIC ABS SYSTEM" WARNING FLASHING, VERY RANDOM, OFTEM TIMES GOING OFF FOR HOURS DURING LONG ROD TRIPS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE ABS SYSTEM SEEMED TO MALFUNCTION WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND THEN THE WARNINGS SOUND. VERY SIMILAIR TO THE PREPORTED ISSUES WITH THE ABS MODULE/HCU ISSUES.

Intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance. ABS saying intermittent issues. Dash alarm came on and I do not have ABS or traction control.

Warning light stating service electronic brake system and ABS light comes on. Being in northern Iowa during winter could cause loss of control during breaking. Took vehicle to dealer that determined the ABS module was malfunctioning. Left vehicle with dealer from December 2023 to April 2024 because dealer stated they were waiting on the part. Then let me know they could not get the part. Mopar currently states the part is unavailable. I am left with a vehicle that could malfunction at anytime and no way to fix it.

Randomly my abs, traction control and service ebs light came on driving down road. Currently don't have abs, cruise control or traction control. Know problem that won't get recalled with ram. Faulty hcu and abs module..

ABS and traction control light appear and disappear rapidly while driving. Message pop up saying service electronic braking system. The lights don’t stay on they go out immediately after chime. Notice it will sometimes (more often than not) come on when hitting bumps in the road.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THIS TURNS THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SEVERAL COMPLAITS.

Automatic electrical braking system failure while towing.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the ABS and Traction Control warning lights and the “Service ABS Control Braking System” message flashed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that simultaneously an audible chime was heard. Additionally, while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated, the cruise control feature deactivated inadvertently and failed to re-activate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,850.

The contact owned a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated the vehicle was parked overnight on the street and unoccupied when a loud bang was heard and it was discovered that the vehicle had caught on fire. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The fire department and police department arrived to inspect the vehicle where it was noticed the fire started on the passenger side of the engine however the exact origin could not be determined. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consumed by the flames and there were only burnt framing remains of the vehicle. A police report was filed but the case number was not available. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle remained in the contact's possession. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

ABS light keeps going on and off. Had it repaired/replaced once under warranty, no longer under warranty. Nearly skid off the road on a rainy day when someone braked hard in front of me. This ABS issue is very dangerous. In my opinion, I shouldn't have to keep paying to repair this since it constantly fails.

We have been waiting on an improved HCU for the ABS system for approximately 18 months now to no avail. The ABS system is constantly failing and throwing codes related to the HCU and ABS module which shuts down the ABS system as well as cruise control and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree more times than I can count. My local dealership has no information on when parts will be available to fix this issue. The HCU has already been replaced once with the old stock unit and it has failed. This is unacceptable and a major safety concern since we are frequently hauling horses. Any information related to a fix would be greatly appreciated since RAM doesn’t seem to care at all.

The ABS module and HCU have failed for the second time. The first time they were replaced under warranty but now the truck is just outside of warranty and not covered and this is a 1600 dollar repair on a truck with 60k miles. The first time was approximately 30k miles. My safety is at risk when brake parts are malfunctioning and the problem has been confirmed by the dealership, and it's a very common issue without recall. Constant dinging happens while driving from alarms on the display stating to service abs and esc systems.

2018 RAM 2500 Laramie Longhorn Megacab. In November of 2023 the Service ABS dash light and constant dinging bell started going off. I use my truck to transport cattle and heavy equipment. I noticed I had NO ABS breaking and it was NOT safe to drive and tow. I took my truck to my mechanic - after analysis on his computer I was told the ABS Module and the HCU both were bad and needed replacement. My mechanic attempted to order parts and was told that there the HCU was available but the ABS was backordered with NO KNOWN AVAILABLITY DATE. I contacted three dealers .... told the same thing ... also was told to drive the truck and tow ...very unsafe!!!! RECALL!!!!!

In March I started experiencing an intermittent ABS warning light. When this light is active the truck is without anti-lock braking and traction control (as well as cruise control), which are critical safety features. This is the second time that I have had this problem on this truck with the same module. In both cases I had the dealership make the needed repairs. The first instance was repaired under warranty on 11/06/2020 at 24,433 miles. The most recent instance was repaired on 3/27/2024 at 44,181 miles and at a cost of $798.15. These two failures indicate a service life of less than 25,000 miles for a critical piece of safety equipment. The attached dealership repair invoices show that it was the exact same part that was replaced. At the time of the most recent issue, I contacted Ram Customer Care by phone and after several calls back and forth they declined to provide warranty cost assistance. However, they indicated that they had contacted the dealership, but incorrectly reported back to me the cause of the fault. I pointed out that they were making a determination on apparently incorrect information. When they declined the second time I requested that they put that in an email, which is attached. Given that there has already been a recall on later model years for this exact problem, and that there appears to be a substantial number of similar claims from 2017-2018 model years owners, I would like to add my experience (and expense) to whatever other complaints that you

ABS and traction lights have started staying on and when on the cruise system does not work

My 2018 Ram 2500 threw and ABS warning lamp and code C0020-01, which was confirmed by Key Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Rochester, NH on [XXX]. I lost brake performance on my drivers side. Upon removing the brakes on the passenger side I discovered the pads had disintegrated, while the drivers side pads showed considerably less wear. The truck has 57,000 miles,just started getting intermittent ABS, and Traction Control lights coming on and the dinger goes off when the lights come on. Thanks

ABS KEEPS GOING OFF started at 50 thousand miles it says its the abs module .

ABS light and chime is intermittently coming on and off. while the light is on the cruise control does not work. Every time the light comes on the chime sounds. the system light will go on and off sometimes at an extremely annoying rate.
