Abs and traction disabled randomly while driving.

ABS and traction control warning lights coming in and out continuously while vehicle is on. Usually the lights will lock in after a while and then the ABS and Traction control will not function correctly. It is widespread with certain years of this vehicle and Ram refuses to admit a chronic problem.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was not available.

July 11, 2024 Message alert appeared indash with instructions to service ABS system. This vehicle experienced the exact same issue in April of 2022 and was taken to the dealer(Patterson Dodge-Tyler,TX) for repair, where the ABS Module was replaced. The replacement was not covered by the warranty.

The service electronic brake system warning light and chime along with the traction control and ABS warning lights and the cruise control fails to work. This occurs frequently. The code is C0020-01 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Pump Motor ControlGeneral Electrical Failure I believe.

ABS light come on and the service antilock brake system light comes on and NO cruise control, happening all the time so NO ABS systems and in south dakota that is a big problem and no parts for 8 months now comes on when you hit a bump all the time 68 times driving 50 miles

Vehicles anti-lock brake, traction control systems become inoperable. Automaker is aware of the HCU and ABS defect, they have failed to recall affected vehicles or offer another remedy. Braking becomes much more difficult and a ram pickup becomes tougher to control without these systems, especially in dangerous road conditions caused by rain.

My ABS system has started going off and on intermittently but regularly. It turns my cruise control off and creates a hazardous situation with both traveling on interstate and when raining as I have no ABS.

Day after purchasing my used 2018 ram the abs light and traction control started dinging continuously. Brought back to dealer they say there is no fix at this time. Abs control module and hcu need changed/repair but there are no parts available for fix. So now I have to pay/drive for truck that brake system /traction control does not work properly. Please do a recall on the and make them fix!! There are so many specifically 2018 ram models that have this issue. When you could purchase the part it was $1000 fix and no guarantee how long it would last. I believe dealer knew this issue and cleared code before I arrived.

My ABS light sporadically comes on and off. Dealership says it is the HCU module. It was replaced under warranty in 2020 and now has failed again. Wanting to file report so it is noted to help with initiating a recall on this failing part. I have read that the ABS module has also had similars issues with no recall as of to date either.

ABS hydraulic pump failure, confirmed by Ram dealer. ABS light coming on and off affecting cruise control. Warning on dash says service ABS system. Truck only has 14350 miles No brake failures as of yet

Truck will flash warnings and dinging indicating that the anti-lock brakes and traction control has failed. Sometimes it'll stay that way and other times it will cycle multiple times. Like 20 times in a minute where the ABS and TCS are kicking on and off. Dangerous to have the brakes work like they're supposed to at random. It did this before in July of 2021, Scott Wood Dealership in Arkansas replaced the abs module/hcu. It is now doing it again, same symptoms.

My ABS system went out while under warranty. A couple years later now I'm getting ABS module warnings. Brakes are different and the cruise control is affected at times. Sounds like very common issue to certain Ram owners. We need a recall.

Service abs system message and abs light and brake light coming on.. had checked and C0020-01 code for ABS pump motor control- general electrical failure

Vehicle is currently displaying ABS warning light. Current mileage is 45,327. Dealership previously replaced Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) at 4,002 miles. ABS Module was not replaced as part was on back order. Dealer noted usual procedure is to replace HCU and ABS Module. Dealer noted code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure. At 24,923 miles, vehicle again displayed ABS Warning. Dealer found Code C0020-10 General ABS Pump Electrical Failure. Dealer replaced HCU. Dealer noted ABS warning is serious and vehicle should be repaired immediately. The safety of my family has been put at risk on multiple occasions. Problem has been confirmed and acknowledged by dealer. Problem has not been investigated by others.

Twice while going up a hill in the rain I was changing lanes and the cruise cut out causing the vehicle to slow down rapidly and kick out in the back. The cruise abruptly stops when the “service electronic braking system” and “service abs” lights and dinging come on. Apparently this also stops the traction control from working. Looking on the internet and forums, this is a very common issue. In fact, there is safety recalls on later model Rams with the same issue on the same parts. Why not the models that this started with?

HCU failed today 07/08/24. Service Electronic Brake System light comes on and off, traction control/abs malfunction indicator lights comes on and off constantly. Kicked cruise control off while traveling highway speeds causing a rapid deceleration to occur. Can't get in to dealership until July 17 to have it looked at. No other indicators/malfunction lights/codes came on prior to 07/08/24.

ABS and ECS warning indicators are continually coming on and going off. I have read many complaints on Ram forums that are identical to mine.

Everytime I press the brake pedal I am now receiving a "service electronic braking system." It is not every so often. It is every single time I press it. I have started researching this and there are thousands of other owners having the same problem that own the same truck as I do. They are also saying that every dealership either turns them away because they can't find the problem or they are giving conflicting reasons why it's happening and/or the part they say is the problem is on a massive, estensive backorder that could be months that sometimes fixes the problem for only a few months and have spent $1500 to $2500 depending on the location. They are also saying to report it to the NHTSA to make Ram fix the problem since it is so widespread across the nation.

C0020--01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE. Available for inspection. Safety of self and others is at risk in ABS brake failure. Independent service center has confirmed problem. Vehicle/component has not been inspected by mfg, police, insurance, or others (besides independent service center). Intermittent warning lamps and chimes began in June, 2024, approx 65k miles on the vehicle. My understanding is that this is a common issue, faulty component and also involves the Hydraulic Control Unit ("HCU"). These are expensive components and labor. Expense for repair/replacement should be covered by manufacturer.

The ABS is malfunctioning and affecting cruise control. This can cause major safety issues. The truck is constantly dinging over and over while I drive. I contacted the dealer but they said ram has not came out with the parts to repair it yet. There is a class action lawsuit against them for this reason but nothing is still being done yet. Many people have complained of this issue.

The trucks warning lights indicated the ASB module, HCU module, and cruise control failed. The trailer brake controller, ABS system, and cruise control fail to function properly. The warning lamps and buzzer have been constantly going on and off for the last two years.

Yes, I am on my second ABS brake module at 102,000 miles. The first one happened around 70,000 miles.

[XXX]. Location : somewhere in rural Pennsylvania. Incident ahead of me in heavy traffic. Applied brakes, more forcefully than usual. Immediately warning lights and audible alarm appeared on dash. “Service ABS system” . Was located in very rural area , no safe place to exit highway. At next exit , pulled off , brakes appeared to be functioning as normal. But dash warning lights proclaimed no ABS system and no traction control. Also lost function of cruise control and trailer brake control.. cautiously proceeded to destination. Relative had code reader - revealed code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control. Investigation on internet revealed this is a very common problem among Ram 2500 trucks. Very expensive and not covered under warranty. I believe the NHTSA has received numerous reports from other Ram owners as to this problem. This situation is very unsafe with the loss of these very important safety features. Ram has refused to address this issue. I’m reporting this today in hopes that this agency dedicated to Safety will address this in a very timely manner. Antilock braking system lights started coming on intermittently about 2 months ago. It would occur then stop for a few trips. It has progressed to a constant alert with a notice to have the ABS system serviced. The vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it and is not used daily. It has been in the shop for over a week and they have not returned my calls as to the diagnosis. I have read that there have been alot of issues with this.

Traction control, electronic braking system and ABS warning lights flash and ding repeatedly with a warning message to service ABS system and Electronic braking system. Dealer and local shop cannot obtain parts. I need a safe truck for work.

Hi, The ABS System shows Service Antilock Brake System at the display, It comes and go so I assume that it is an intermittent issue, it does stays for hours or days and go on ad off during the whole drive, definitely is an issue. It allow the brakes to preventing locket when brake on certain circumstances. Had an issue on a wet pavement and have to handle to avoid crash with other vehicle cause the tires got locket and the truck slipped on the pavement for a considerable amount of feet's. Dealer inspected and replaced the module under warranty when I bought the truck and told me that it has to be replaced again.

Service ABS light on dash comes in every few seconds while driving. When this happens cruise control shuts off and ABS system does not work. The issue started happening with about 45,000 miles on the truck.

My ABS light keeps coming on and off intermittently causing my cruise control to be interrupted and causing vehicle to slow down unintended in traffic. doesn't stay on and only comes on and off when it feels like it. This is dangerous and could cause my brakes to not work properly or have someone hit me from behind when cruise control kicks off at high speeds on the highway. This should be recalled.

The anti-locking braking and traction control warning lights flicker along with a beeping. This causes the cruise control to also disengage. This first occurred when the 2018 truck was slightly over 3 years old and with 30,000 miles. I had both the HCU and ABS module replaced and it stopped the issue for a few years and 20,000 miles longer. At 50,500 miles, it has again become an issue.

HCU and ABS module brake failure causing the ABS and traction control warning lights and audible tone to intermittently go off. This also results in the cruise control failing to work. This is the second time of such occurrence. First at 3 years old and 30k miles and second at 6 years old and 50.5k miles.

ABS Hydraulic Control Unit intermittently malfunctioning while driving causing service ABS system warning to display and render ABS system along with Traction Control System and Stability Control inoperable. HCU electronic motor removed and internal inspection of brushes and motor components conducted. Inspection identified brushes sticking in guides causing intermittent contact with center shaft of motor. New HCU ordered 28 June 24.

Service ABS braking system keeps appearing intermittently along with traction control and ABS lights illuminating on instrument panel. Second time my truck has thrown a code for the HCU being defective.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was an audible alarm activated and the messages "Service ABS" and "Traction Control" were displayed. The contact stated that while driving on wet pavement, the vehicle was difficult to stop while depressing the brake pedal due to the failure. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Abs and service electronic braking system warning lights continuously go on and off while driving truck

Have 47000 miles on truck and abs light kicks on and off. When it was checked code was abs general electrical failure.

I have had the ABS system failure happen for the third time. the first was around 24000 miles about May of 2020, repaired at a Ram dealer in New Mexico, I believe they only replaced the ABS ECU. The second time was 43,298 miles [XXX] 2022, they replaced the HCU AT Walker Ram in Alexandria Louisiana. It has now failed again with 65,723 miles on [XXX]. Every time it has cause the truck to lose the Anti-lock braking ability, traction control, cruse control & ETC. I feel that Ram should do a recall and fix the issue with a upgraded parts that doesn't fail every 20k so miles and cause a safety risk. HCU for ABS has failed - Intermittently fails when in operation. Basically hit a bump in the road and it fails. Hit another bump and it "fixes itself". Then hit another bump and it fails. Lights up the ABS light, ESC light, brake light, esc. After some research, this seems to be a common issue on the 2018 Ram 2500's.

The Hydraulic Control Unit begins to malfunction presenting on the ECU as C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure. This is fairly common in 4th generation 2500-3500 RAM trucks. The malfunction affects the ABS system, Traction Control system, and Adaptive Cruse Control system by deactivating them when the malfunction presents. This could cause the braking system and other systems to not perform in hard breaking/ emergency braking situations causing the operator to loose control of the vehicle. The Traction Control system and ABS system warning lights illuminate on the dash and the message of "service electronic braking system" is displayed on the HUD.

The abs control module has gone bad. When you take it to the dealership ship to get fixed they can’t order the replacement parts. The abs system is very important in heavy truck like these when it comes to drive on wet roads.The manufacturer should become responsible for making sure it get fixed and their is parts available to do so.

Antilock brake system control module failed causing loss of ABS.

ABS hydraulic control unit: Warning light and audible "ding" on the dashboard notes there is an issue with the ABS system. After taking this truck to several RAM service centers, the service tech says that it is part of a recall and that parts are not available. I cannot find any such recall, only a class action lawsuit. I haven't noticed a lack of breaking capabilities although I also have not engaged the breaks to the maximum which is where the ABS system would normally engage. Warnings are now constant while the truck is running.

Getting the same check engine warnings that many others are getting. Class action law suit going on in California.Ram says not covered by warranty

Intermittent ABS/cruise control failures and warnings. Disables trailer brakes while towing. Truck has 28k miles, has been repaired once already. Dealer says no recalls, and out of warranty. Subject of class action lawsuit?

Hydraulic cont module/ abs module is constantly going in and out causing the abs/traction control to be disabled and non functional cruise control. Highly unsafe when towing heavy like I do most of the time.
