2018 Ram 2500 complaints

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with HECU unit and ABS module failures. The contact was informed that the HECU unit and the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The electronic braking system/abs light/traction control light constantly comes on and off every few seconds when driving. Having intermittent loss of anti lock braking system is a hazard.

Intermittent ABS brake error code C0020 - "Recirculation pump general electrical failure". This error occurs then clears within seconds while normal driving. No special weather conditions, road conditions or temperatures noted. May drive 5 miles, 50 miles or 500 miles before error occurs again. Only 6150 miles on vehicle. Repair parts scarce or not available.

ABS light and traction control lights are on and off with the service light on dash on and off.When the abs light and traction light comes on it also disables the cruse control to the off position. Performance is totally reduced ! Vehicle shows active code C0020 for ABS pump motor control general electric failure..Diagnostic issued said to replace the hydraulic control unit. The problem was inspected by the Ram dealer and was reproduced by the tech and is currently being repaired by the Ram dealer. We were notified the complete unit was not available and only the possibility of the control motor was available at this time at a cost of $1400 give or take. C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE

ABS braking Module and hydraulic control unit on this vehicle has been replaced under warrenty twice (in 2020 & 2022), vehicle now has 59K miles now and ABS has failed again, dash warnings are constant and cannot be turned off. Failed while driving from MO to FL last weekend

The ABS light and stabilizer light stay on along with the chime. It turns the cruise control off. The brake module/ABS/Hydraulic control unit is out and no parts and not going to be made per Ram dealers. This is a known issue with nothing done

Service electronic braking system and ABS light comes on and chimes repeatedly every time I drive the vehicle. This needs to be recalled as it is a chronic issue affecting thousands of trucks and owners.

Over the course of 30+ days the ABS indicator light would appear intermittently. We took our vehicle to a local mechanic. The code was run, and it was determined it was code number C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL ELECTRIC FAILURE, which recommended we replace the hydraulic control unit. The repair was not completed, and we contacted the local dealership to file and RO. It’s not a warranty repair. They suggested calling Chrysler directly who admitted lots of customers are calling for this issue; however, it’s not a recall repair at this point. This issue is causing failed ABS patterns during weather conditions or faults while the light is active. It’s a safety issue and could cause rollover on a vehicle that is already large and has higher potential for this issue.

Warning message and chimes indicating ABS service required. This is an indication the HCU is working incorrectly or failed which results in ABS brakes, cruise control, and 4x4 function loss. This is a known safety issue and should require a recall.

My 2018 Ram 2500 has Service Electronic Breaking System and Service Antilock break System, along with the traction control light coming on and off intermittently and will stay on for days the cut off and back on and off. I had a close call when a vehicle slammed on breaks in front of me (who knows why, it could have been a small child in the road) as I pressed the break pedal my breaks locked up and almost slid into the opposite lane. Thankfully the condition where dry and I had just put new tires on the truck. I took the truck to the Ram dealership in Jacksonville NC, and was told the ABS/HCU PUMP HAS INTERNAL FAULT AND PUMP MOTOR FAILURE. The part was on national backorder with no ETA and have been asking for updates for what seems like over a year and the same answer; under investigation and still on back order.... my family and I are on a nerve racking (due to dinging and flashing lights on the dash) road trip from GA to NE. I almost forgot to mention we are unable to use the cruise control functions due to the ABS/HCU/Traction control issues.. I understand there may be a class action lawsuit for this year make and model... What will it take to get an actual recall on these issues? Serious injuries, death? The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the "Service ABS" warning light illuminated the instrument panel with a continuous warning chime throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, an official diagnostic test was not performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

While driving the abs warning light will flash on then clear after a few seconds. It will do this several times while driving. Sometimes it will stay on for several minutes. When the warning is on the cruse control and exhaust brakes no longer work. It seems this may be a problem with the pump.

ABS Hydraulic Control Unit failed as it has done on millions of other rams. Yes I will keep the old part incase someone needs proof. Cruise control does not work. ABS and traction control also does not work posing all sorts of possibilities for accidents. Independent service center No but the manufacturer knows its an issue. The dealers can only order 1 unit every 7 days. Every dealer in the area is out of stock or has units on the shelf already assigned to other vehicles. Multiple Warning lights come and go on the dash as well as a ding to distract you. "service anti lock brake system" illuminates on the console.

Known issue that Ram 2500 from this year have issues with their ABS modules and hydraulic control unit (HCU) modules. This could potentially disable the electronic stability control (ESC), which is designed to help maintain vehicle control during a slide. The truck experiences issues such as the loss of anti-lock braking, cruise control, and traction control. This is a known issue that has been the subject of several class action lawsuits that Ram refuses to issue a recall for. Quoted price from dealer to fix is $1,200.

Abs light and traction control keep flashing codes on and off. I lose my abs abillities which is extremely dangerous my family. I am told by griffin motors in meadville PA that it is the HCU. They have no part available to fix.

ABS and Traction Control lights come on and go off constantly, while sitting still, when hitting a bump, and when in Park not moving. When the lights are on, ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise Control do not work. This is a serious safety issue.

2018 ram 2500, abs and traction control light came on and front driverside brake locked up cause me to lose control of the truck. Almost hit 2 other vehicles. Now there's a loud grinding noise and seems to be not drivable. Vehicle was towed to my local dealer this morning 7-29-24 (kendall jeep ram chrysler). Was told by a service advisor that I could possibly be a faulty abs module but they do not have any available diesel technicians available to diagnose at the moment. Might be serval days or weeks before they can troubleshoot.

On 07/02/2022 I had my Dodge Ram 2500 serviced and assessed for Electronic Braking System Warning and Service Soon light on, by Farlow Automotive 500 S. Wickham Road, West Melbourne, FL 32904 (321) 724-8888. The issue was diagnosed and identified as a bad ABS Control Module as well as a bad ABS Hydraulic Unit. The parts were ordered and installed on 07/20/2022. Following the installation the same Electronic Braking System Warning and Service Soon light went on again. I brought the truck back to Farlow Automotive immediately after the new braking units were installed and it was diagnosed as a faulty ABS Control Module and ABS Hydraulic Unit from the manufacturer. It has been over 2 years since the faulty ABS control module and ABS hydraulic unit has been installed and we have not received appropriate replacement to remedy this important braking system malfunction. We have experienced daily warning lights for 2 years plus, saying service Electronic Braking System. We tow an 8500 pound recreational vehicle for family outings that has repeatedly created significant concerns for the safety of myself and my family for the past 2 years. The systems in question are the ABS and Traction Control Systems on my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7L 4x4 Heavy Duty. This vehicle has had issues from the beginning with these systems as the first repair took place at 10,640 miles at the dealership it was purchased from. This took care of the codes/lights for a short period and was covered under warranty but the same issue persisted not too long after mileage-wise. The next time this issue occurred was when the truck had 22,628 miles, the brake fluid was flushed in an attempt to correct the ABS light but was unsuccessful. The truck was then brought to another repair shop to correct the same issue again where the ABS Hydraulic Module, ABS Control Module, and the brake fluid were replaced at 23,702 miles at the sole cost of the owner. As of early July 2024, at 45,000 miles the lights have again started intermittently coming on stating there is an issue with both the ABS and Traction Control Systems and must be serviced. After reading through multiple forums and speaking to other owners, this seems to be a common occurrence and needs to be looked into by the NHTSA due to major safety concerns. Although there were no accidents or police reports in this case, this malfunction poses a major safety hazard for the driver, passengers, and others on the road if a recall is not issued. My 2018 Ram 2500 truck has a trailer break controller. I noticed that it may not be applying the breaks to my trailer properly. Then a few months later I get a warning on my dash that the ABS break system needs to be checked. I'm learning that ABS problems are connected with the trailer break controller. I'm also learning that this is a chronic problem with 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500 trucks. My truck has been in the shop twice for major problems with the ABS system since new. Once at 9,000 miles and at 35,000 miles, which it has now. My real complaint is that my truck was not breaking my trailer properly and it gave me no indication that it wasn't. There needs to be a recall on the ABS breaking system. The Ram dealer that did my repair even admitted to me that this was a chronic problem on these trucks. Intermittent ABS and Traction control light that after 2 weeks stayed on indefinitely due to the Hydraulic Control Unit that is known to go bad in these trucks. The dealer has replaced the HCU but at my own personal cost of around $900.00. This is something that has been a known issue on this truck and should be recalled as it poses a safety concern.

Abs control module & HCU module not working properly. Ram brand knows about these problematic modules on the 2014-2018 rams trucks. Now, I can’t drive my truck since Ram fixes this issue.

ABS and Traction control warnings intermittently go off and sometimes stay on for a while. This causes the truck to not have abs and traction control. Had a bucking issues sliding down a boat ramp yesterday. Truck is under 40,000 miles. This is a well known issue for years now.

ABS Pump failure: First occurrence July 18 2022. Mileage 24268 ABS pump replace under warranty by dealership. Second occurrence: July 23 2024 Mileage 45907 ABS pump not replaced as of yet, parts out of warranty by one week. OEM warranty out by 25 months. I am the original owner and this vehicle has been gently used and not abused. The ABS pump failure, two occasions, of a part which should be have a life expectance of 100,000 miles, minimum.. Two failures at less than 50K miles in my mind is not acceptable, especially with a safety related part. From the research I have done, additionally talking with other owners and dealership technicians, this is a common problem especially with the 2017 - 2018 year model vehicles. Something should be done to rectify this issue.

Anti lock brake module repetitively fails. First one replaced 7/2021 with 51,xxx miles. Second failed 7/2024 with 69,000 miles. Loses ABS system, cruise control, electronics affect electronic throttle and stabilitrack.

"Service ABS" and "Traction control" warnings (and audible bell) coming on intermittently. Rough road surface doesn't cause it to happen more frequently, nor does speed of the vehicle (happens when still, in park, in drive, any speed). May happen several times in 30 minutes of driving, may not happen at all. I have not noticed a difference in braking or traction performance since this started.

The hydraulic control unit (HCU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module, not sure which one. They will only work intermittently or not at all; this causes the warning lights/chime to come on/off or just stay on. During this action the vehicle has no ABS or traction control, this is the Third time my vehicle has needing this part serviced with out-of-pocket cost as well as wait times for the part to actually arrive at the dealership.

Wanted to report that my 2018 Ram 2(00 is experiencing the same abs/hcu issue that appears to be plaguing this year/model of Ram. I understand that tgis issue is still currently under investigation. Started with Beeping and traction control abs lights would come on and off intermittently. Now pretty much constantly on, unable to is cruise control.

Suddenly have service electronic braking system and service abs system lights flashing on and off while driving regardless of weather or road conditions. Truck has intermittent abs/esc light and warning for service electronic braking system, service abs system. Dealer has confirmed inactive codes and extended warranty will not cover unless they see active code. I have replaced the HPU 2x's and currently the ABS warning light comes on. I have a RAM case #86697757. This is going on for a year and the dealer says parts are unavailable for repair. The truck has 24,000 miles on it.

Vehicle has massive sway when carrying payload in bed of truck. Not a problem pulling trailor with a load just when loaded in bed. Is not the death wobble associated with Dodge pickups have had checked by local mechanic and no problems found on suspension, swaybars, shocks, springs, ball joints or other issues. ABS lights flash on and off while driving constantly. Affects concentration and cruise control. Radio will randomly start pressing all over the screen changing settings and distracting the driver.

Antilock brake warning light/chime and traction control warning light/chime keep going on and off causing the vehicle to have no antilock capabilities and disengaging the cruise control.

General electrical failure of abs pump motor control. Intermittent issue causes loss of traction control, stability control and abs functions.

Several systems suddenly were disabled, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Front & Rear Park sensors, Tire Monitor system as well as the cruise control that may not be considered safety. My 2018 Ram 2500 has 85,000 miles currently. At about 80,000 miles I got the ABS and Traction control warning lights along with dash messages to check the ABS amd electronic braking systems. I am a heavy equipment mechanic and thus checked the systems myself with a scan tool and other test equipment. I found that the ABS module has an internal electrical failure resulting in power not being supplied to the ABS pump/electric motor. I have verified that the pump works and has about a 48ohm resistance. If supplied with 12v and ground to the motor it will come on. Circuit testing from the electrical plug to the contacts for the motor one pin has contact and the other is an open circuit. I also have one seized plunger in the hydraulic control unit that is actuator by the motors eccentric lobe on the output shaft. After doing some research online I've found this is a very common issue on the 2017 and 2018 Ram heavy duty trucks, the 2500 and 3500 model specifically. I also found that neither the hydraulic control unit nor the ABS module have been available for purchase for a long time. I myself have been trying to order one for about 6 months. No dealer in my area can even give me an estimate time of availability. So currently I and many other have to drive a vehicle with a failed ABS system.
