I was on my farm road and I had to back up a long distance. I was surprised to find out the truck is governed not to exceed 20 mph in reverse. While I know most people can’t go in reverse that fast , I do, I can and it’s frustrating knowing I can’t. I look at this as a safety issue because what if I was in a threatening situation and had to back up quickly to get out of that place. So picture in your head someone it trying to do me harm on a single lane road and they have stopped in front of me to carjack me or something similar. I quickly put my car in reverse only to find my max speed is 20 mph. The carjackers car has no limit and they quickly catch me and run me off the road etc etc. I do not need to have that decision of how fast I go in reverse made for me. Is this a new government regulation or something by RAM? I would like an answer.
2020 Ram 1500 complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2020 record →
Vibration and noise when turning. We have taken it to the Dodge dealers 5 time and they said nothing found until last visit after truck was through warranty. They report a new steering pump is needed. This issue first appeared in 2021 and was dismissed by the dealer mechanics. The dear was able to feel and hear issue when driving the truck. This steering issue poses a safety issue every time we drive the truck.

Dash will occasionally flash stop/start unavailable. Second incident yesterday happened while at a red light. Start/stop went unavailable and vehicle stalled and applied parking brake. Both incidents were while stop/start had been on and after releasing the brake. I see there is an open recall for this on the 2021 models. My vehicles build date is June 2020 seems and fall under the timeline for the 21 models but no recall for my vehicle
The plastic clip that holds the sun visor into the roof has broken after 32,000 miles of driving, when the plastic has failed he visor can fall out of position and into the field of view, the visor can no longer be stored in its correct position, it also needs to be held while driving so that it does not obstruct ones vision.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the front driver’s side sun visor detached from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the front driver’s side sun visor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,183.
Exhaust Manifolds have cracked twice on the right and once on the left side in the first 45K miles of the vehicles life. Both times replaced under warranty, there appears to be a design defect here that should be resolved. Leaking exhaust manifold in California will violate CARB emission standards.
While making a right turn from a stop, I lost all steering almost running into the car adjacent.
Both exhaust manifolds cracked creating an exhaust allowing exhaust gases/fumes into the vehicles cabin causing an obvious safety issue. No warnings lights of any sort, the components were inspected by the dealership and confirmed that they were cracked. This is a recurring problem as a quick search about ram exhaust manifolds will provide a never ending list of stories and the dealer themselves stated they are constantly replacing cracked exhaust manifolds everyday and the parts are hard to get due to the issue being so common.
Right passenger visor fell off completely from the wire in the ceiling. Left driver side visor loose and is dangling from the wire from the ceiling. They are in place hooked on to the snap on part. Neither one can be used.
Exhaust manifolds leaking at cylinder heads due to broken manifold bolts.
I am having issues with water coming in on the driver side. Every time it rains it drips right where my break pedal is and makes is really slippery and completely floods the floor where the driver seat is. This is a safety issue if I am trying to break and the break is so slippery because water is constantly on the break pedal.
The plastic stem that holds the driver side visor in place broke and the visor dropped obstructing driver visibility from the front windshield.
Rear backup camera works intermittently, can work or stop working at anytime. Difficult to hook up to a camper or back into a parking space, very dangerous when needed.
Driver’s side visor abruptly fell out of the swivel plate while driving. Visor will not stay up/in place. The visor hangs by the electrical wiring.
The frame of the back window is cracking causing water to leak into the cab. After talking to the dealership they are saying this is happening with RAM Trucks that has not been recalled. He stated that the control module is located under the rear seat which is getting wet and causing problems to the trun signals, starting of the truck and lighting to malfunction which could cause an accident. There is also airbags located on the rear roof that could cause them not to go off. This repair is going to be between 2000 and 5000 bucks depending on the damage. I believe this should be a safety recall due to the chance of someone's life being lost.
The start/stop feature on the truck has been malfunctioning and the light has repeatedly came on. The truck has stalled on me while driving on two different occasions. I was in the middle of driving on a busy road and also a highway and the truck stalled on me which could of caused any vehicle to the side of me, or behind me to hit my vehicle causing an accident especially when I have both my kids in the car. The dealer allegedly fixed the problem but clearly it is NOT fixed. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealer at their establishment. They say nothing shows the truck stalling in the computer but I have proof. The truck shook, the start/stop light came on along with the check engine light and then stalled out on me both times. I opened a case with ram care and they dont seem to be of any help nor is the dealer. The dealer refused both times to check the “e-torque” battery that controls the start/stop feature for any failures or malfunctions and gave the excuse that theirs nothing indicating its the battery yet that battery specifically controls that feature. Ram has also recalled 131k trucks and wranglers for stalling. Ive brought the truck to them 2 times this month alone and they refuse to check that battery which 2 other dealers said was the problem. I would of brought it to the other 2 dealers but ram care advised to bring it to the dealer where I purchased the truck from. This is seriously unreal and if something happens or my kids get hurt due to an accident thi

Since the vehicle was purchased new in 2020, the check engine light has come on and the service throttle body message has been displayed 12 times. It only happens when I am towing a 5,500 pound travel trailer. When the anomalies happens, I loose engine power. Say I am traveling at 65 MPH. When the anomalies happens and the CEL and warning messages appear, my speed drops to 32 MPH. Most Interstate freeway systems have a 45 MPH lower limit. I am forced to quickly pull over to the emergency lane to avoid a crash situation. If I shut off the engine and restart it, my power comes back but the CEL is still on. The selling dealership has tried to fix this several times. The engine code that is always present is a P00AF (turbo boost control “A” module performance, I think over boost) and at one time a P0299 (turbo under boost). The latter occurred after I heard a loud “whoosh” . The turbo air hose blew off. So far the Dealer has flash programmed the engine control module, replace the turbo hose and lastly replaced the turbo itself. Not all of the anomalies have been documented by the dealer, as I am always traveling around the country when it happens and have called dealers in the city nearest me at the time and have gotten every excuse as to why they cannot look as it now. I am almost always able to resume my travels by shutting off and restarting the engine. When I arrive back home and take it in to be looked at, I’m told there is no codes and no history of a code. It can be severa
I was pulling into a parking spot of a gas station and the ball joint of my driver side tire completely broke off and the entire wheel fell off

The driver’s side visor fell down on its own and blocked my visibility almost causing me to lose control of the vehicle because I could not see where I was going. The visor will not stay up in the locked position. I can see wires and a broken black plastic part where the visor support is located.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes applied independently without being depressed. There was no warning light illuminated. While driving over a bump in the roadway, the vehicle inadvertently shifted lanes and the vehicle became uncontrollable. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the death wobble and the vehicle spun out of control and was almost struck by another vehicle. The contact was provided a police escort to the dealer. The 4WD, ABS, and service engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who stated that the tires needed to be replaced. After pulling out of a parking lot, I was accelerating, probably between 30-40mph, and the transmission suddenly slipped into neutral. I had just merged into traffic and because of this defect in the transmission, my truck was sharply slowing down with several other vehicles behind and beside me. Thankfully I drove a manual transmission for years so I knew what was happening. I physically turned the gear selector to neutral and right back to drive and I was able to regain control. However, in that time, my speed probably decreased about 10mph. Had I been on a highway or in front of an inattentive driver, a serious accident could have occurred. After doing some research, I see this has happened to several other people with the same vehicle. I will definitely be taking my truck in this week. It’s still under warranty with about 23k miles.
Fuel tank malfunctions. It will not relieve pressure to fill up. Have to continually pump gas for a long time for it to fill the tank up. This has happened on multiple replacement tanks. Yes, it is available for inspection. My safety and others is put at risk because it allows gas to overflow while filling up with the automatic pump. Also due to having trouble putting fuel in it causing me to run out of fuel in the middle of traffic. This is the 3rd gas tank I've had on my dodge ram's that has had the same problem. This has happened on multiple Dodge Ram 1500's that I have owned. The component has only been inspected by the dealership when sent in for repair/replacement on each occasion. It has consistently shown to have this problem when the vehicle gets to about 40,000-70,000 miles on the vehicle. There are no warning signs or symptoms that show before it happens.
There is a problem with the way dodge/ram is doing recalls on the tailgate latches. They are only testing them out three times to see if they fail to attach. We have damage to the tailgate from a faulty latch and they said the latch passed the inspection and there is nothing wrong with it. Damage did occur while we was going down the road and the tailgate fell open but the striker is "fine" something happened!!! This is going to cause serious injuries and dodge/ram does not care. All they care about is the money not safety of the individuals. That check is useless as we all know sometimes things happen and it may no occur after the third but maybe the fourth or fifth. They will not even repair the damage the recall caused to my tailgate. But the tailgate is "fine"
The contact's brother owned a 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously driven parked and left unattended a few hours later, the vehicle spontaneously caught fire. The neighbors alerted the owner that the vehicle had caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and informed him the fire started in the engine compartment. A 2021 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 parked in front of the Ram caught fire as well. There were no reported injuries. A police report was filed. It was unknown if the air bags were deployed. The vehicle had burnt to the frame. The vehicle was still at the owner's residence. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who informed me an adjuster would evaluate the vehicle damage. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000
My vehicle is a 2020 Ram/1500 BIG HORN/LONESTAR (with 5.7L HEMI - V8) My VIN is - [XXX] The Engine system failed/malfunctioned while driving on the highway. (It is currently available for inspection upon request.) I will however be taking the vehicle in for an engine rebuild and reinstall on or around May 30th, 2023. My safety and the safety of others was put great risk when my engine sputtered and vehicle rapidly slowed down on the freeway, during rush hour traffic; nearly causing rear end collision. Check Engine warning lamp came on and started flashing at the time of the failure, this was first time it happened. My vehicle was diagnosed from a mechanic/technician at Milosch's Palace Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Lake Orion, Michigan. The technician said that the engine failed due to issue with Cylinder #7 and will need to be replaced - at a cost of nearly $11,000. I did find a licensed repair facility that will do a complete engine removal, overhaul and rebuild including a 24 Month Warranty. According to the gentleman at the repair facility, this is a common issue, and they are on working rotation, repairing 12-15 HEMI Engines at any time due to this common failure. 5.7L HEMI Valve Train issues have been documented over and over; this is a known issue for many years. There have been several cases where HEMI engine owners have filed lawsuits against automobile manufacturer, alleging defects or performance issues with their engines. In some cases, these lawsuits have been succe

Rear sliding glass window does not close using OPEN/CLOSE toggle switch (it will open but not close). Dodge technician that looked at it stated the the bottom seal of the rear window had come unglued and was not allowing the window to stay on it's track while closing. As a result, the entire rear glass window had to be replaced.
2020 RAM 1500 HEMI Broken manifold bolts had fixed with 34,000 miles now the truck has 40,000 and DO NOT BOTHER CALLING MOPAR. they can care less. said i needed to take to dealer and then call back to see what they can do so I asked the rep how many ram owners have yall helped when they took the truck into a dealer for diagnostic out of warranty? No response- shocker there. I stated that mopar knows about this ongoing issue for years and will not do anything about it . Only to be told that I have to take the truck to a dealer. Where they want to charge a fortune. Something needs to be done about this.
Manifolds. This is an ongoing problem with ram owners. They blow at early mileage and progressively get worse until the fumes are in the cab. This can be extremely dangerous and could cause unconsciousness or even death if it’s bad enough. If someone where to become unconscious behind the wheel, it could put many people at danger.
Back in December and January when the weather was below 30 degrees the rear doors would not open on my truck. By the time I got to the dealer the doors warmed up enought to allow them to open, well In March we had another cold snap and my daughters left rear door did not latch all the way and opened when driving about 20 miles per hour. I have the truck at the shop today and they say they cannot find anything wrong with the truck. This only happends when the weather is cold enought to hard freeze. I am not the only one, https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/problem-with-rear-outside-door-handles.28572/
The dash on my truck is bubbling. I have searched the internet and there seems to be hundreds of complaints of this happening on the new body style Ram. It sounds like a manufacturing issue and I believe should be a recall. It is $3,500 to get the dash replaced and it seems to be happening to a lot of people.
I have a 2020 RAM 1500 truck with 35,000 and one of the two bolts holding the exhaust together has corroded complete off and the second is heavily corroded. The flange where these bolts have corroded holds the complete front section and back section on the exhaust together so if this second bolt fails, the complete exhaust will separate in the center and be extremely dangerous if this happen while the vehicle is being driven. I also have friends who had had the same issue with their RAM 1500 Hemi trucks and see multiple posts on line complaining about this same issue.
Rear window leaking water into cab. Water flows behind seat, where electronics are present. Inspected by dealership and rear window needs replacement. Not covered under warranty and repair deferred due to significant cost.

The dash lights flicker on and off cluctser goes out speed o doesn't work and if u come to a complete stop or go under 5 miles an hour the truck will put itself in part and shut completely done no matter where u r at highway city in rush hour traffic it almost had my wife hit and could of gotten killed
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his uncle was driving at 70 MPH, the transmission inadvertently shifted from drive(D) to park(P). No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
Engine shuts down on stop. Normal. But sometimes when I take my foot off the pedal, the starter grinds unusually long and when the engine does restart the vehicle lunges forward. As my foot is instinctively on the accelerator, this sometimes could cause a rear end collision with another vehicle. This scenario has twice caused the engine light to come on. No related codes detected by dealer. The issue did present itself during a test drive with a dealer mechanic. He reset the codes to out the light. No code or solution suggested.
The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, another vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into her vehicle head-on. The vehicle then struck a pole. NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
