My 2013 Rogue air bag light started flashing randomly. This truck hasn't been in an accident. The other issue is with the transmission. I had previously experienced issues with the speed not accelerating when it heats up. Now my transmission light came on and it makes a wining noise. I was on the road and it started acting up not picking up speed. I was on a 70 highway and had to pull over wait for half an hour. Only difference is now my transmission light came on. It has 89k miles.
2013 Nissan Rogue complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2013 record →
Need a new transmission. Mechanic stated it was slipping. I drive to and from Work. I see there’s many others with the same issue. There should be a recall. Have to come up with 4500 Dollars When the car isn’t even worth that much and I owe that much left on the car note.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was stalling and jerking. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over safely and waited for 30 minutes before continuing to drive. The contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic found no failure. The vehicle was driven to the residence and then taken to another independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the torque converter was faulty and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,928.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. The contact was able to pull over safely to the side of the roadway. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
I have had my vehicle for 4 years with no issues and recently started having transmission issues. the car will loose power on the highway risking my life and my children on interstate 78. i have to pull over and turn off the car and wait 20 minutes before it works somewhat. if stopped at a light the car does not go and the pedal depressed all the way to the floor. i will be contacting nissan. i did enter my vin information for the recall for 2013 vehicles nut this one was not part of that recall. please help. this is very dangerous for anyone and expensive to repair even if you take care of your car.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the airbag clockspring was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated as normal. The failure recurred on several occasions with the cruise control activated. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
I was driving down the highway from the airport headed back home, and the car started to lose power. My foot was pressing the pedal to accelerate but the RPMS went past 3-4K and the speed kept going down. No engine lights showed up on the dash or any type of warning. I pulled over on the brim of the highway, I called someone who said to let it sit for a while and try again - i checked my radiator fluid - it was fine and didn't over heat. All electrical components work - i could barely accelerate. I was able to coast for a while at 60 mph and then when i needed to accelerate nothing happened. I tried to call the dealership today and they said there is no safety recalls - but i can see there is a CVT extended warranty in place, but not until 2014 Nissan rogue. I have a 2013 nissan rogue.
At 156k I'm getting told I have to replace my slipping transmission. I just recently had to replace my lower control arms. Diagnosed to replace my CV axle. Also, last year I had to pay to have my seat belts fixed since the rear passenger belts would not buckle leaving serious safety risks for my children
The transmission is going out and the car is less than 10 years old and it just hit 119,817 miles. I looked at the information on the Nissan Rogue's and it states that the manufacturer had a extended warranty on some of their Rogue's transmissions but not all of them for transmission repair, only some of their Rogues, because they apparently build a crappy transmission. I've looked up this extended warranty and any recall notices here but there are none showing. How do we get Nissan to fix their mess? This is ridiculous! I was driving down the interstate with my 9 month old grandson, when my car lost power and started jerking; I had to pull over and wait until the traffic was cleared so I didn't cause an accident. The car wouldn't go any faster the 18 MPH , not a safe place of the older lady and her grandson to be.. stuck on side of the interstate. After giving the car time to sit for awhile, we were able to get going again, but every time the car went over a certain speed, usually over 60 MPH, it would start to jerk again.
Unexpected CVT transmission failure on a gently used 2013 Roque with 96,000 miles on it. No help from Nissan or previous class action suits even though it's clear they knew this an issue. This vehicle, like many others, were properly maintained and should have been included in those approved for extended warranty. Nissan told me that I was not listed as the owner but I'm the 2nd owner and I guess that's there excuse for not notifying me of any class action that MIGHT have been worthwhile to file. Very upset and car just towed tonight to Nissan for $4,800 cvt tranny repair.
When stopped at a stop sign or red light car losses power and almost stalls.
Just last week, the RPMs on my 2013 Nissan Rogue started going crazy, ramping up and down, the car started jerking -- turns out it was a sign of the transmission slipping -- but it returned to "normal" after a few minutes. We continued driving and were on the highway on our way home when all of a sudden, the car went from doing 65 mph to about 15 mph, even though my husband had his foot all the way down on the gas. It was petrifying as we were on a high-speed highway with a speed limit of 65 mph (with many people doing 80 mph), and in addition to our safety, we were concerned about our unborn baby--as I am 3 months pregnant. Thankfully this happened when we weren't terribly far from home and we were able to make it, riding on the shoulder with our hazards on but it was terrifying and definitely dangerous. The car gave no signs of these issues before and it had just passed inspection 2 weeks prior. The car has 92,000 miles; I bought it brand new in 2013; and it has been regularly maintenanced and serviced throughout the years. The check engine light finally came on close to the end of this ordeal (well after the gas pedal stopped responding) and when we brought it to the repair shop they confirmed it was the CVT--which they said is a known defect with many Nissan Rogues. I was frustrated to find out that a class action lawsuit was settled for 2014-2018 Nissan Rogues for CVT and although this a known defect of the 2013 Nissan Rogue as well, the dealership and the company said t
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, there was a clicking and rattling noise coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that metal fragments were present inside the transmission. No further information was available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 46,000.
The airbag light recently turned on for no apparent reason, I m concerned for my safety and I believe, due to the safety aspect alone this should be fix for the dealer, but Marlboro.MA dealer declined the repairs.
Airbag lights randomly came on. I had to look up how to turn it off from YouTube and it worked. The transmission slips when hot meaning when I am stopped at a stop light and I go to push on the gas, first gear doesn’t kick in and I cannot operate for 5 seconds then it punches into place. If I am driving nonstop on the highway, the gears will go into over drive or won’t shift over and stay at max 3000rpm so I can only go about 45mph at that time. Everything appears fine until an hour or so into driving. The transmission fluid looks brown and because it’s a CVT transmission, the whole thing would have to be replaced. My dad works on cars and I also had called shops all around my area to simply get a fluid flush. Nissan has recalled their CVT transmission for this year and model in the past. There are no current claims for this year, however I’ve had the vehicle for a year and a half. Because I had my vehicle refinanced, I had lost all warranty benefits, even though I still qualify within that time and miles range.
I was driving home and smelled burning rubber or plastic coming from my vent while my heat was on. The smell got stronger and stronger. I turn the heat off and only smelled it a little. I parked my vehicle and I am now in search of a mechanic.
I Have a 2013 Nissan Rogue AWD Sport. There is no single incident. Just the issue of the CVT Transmission breaking down every year I've owned this stupid car. Everything is fine. The car is 185k miles and do all the regular maintenance and the car is fine. The only issue is the Transmission has literally broken every year and the warranty even covered the first transmission break which happened within 3 months and then less than a year repaired/fixed by replacing the CVT with a refurbished transmission. Then about over a year later had a $2400 repair job on all the gaskets and seals on the transmission because of leaking and slipping. Same issue we'd push the gas and nothing would happen. Here I am about a year later on the dot from the $2400 repair and starting skippin and slipping again and my mother in law took the car to get checked out and it needs another transmission repair probably $1400 at least they won't fully know until they go in and look. 4 repairs in 4 years on the same part , the CVT transmission. Had I known this was going to be a continuing issue like this, I would've purchased a new car instead of going cheap on a used car in decent shape. I research Nissan and transmissions and there's lawsuit cases on the transmissions so apparently its not the old car or anything like that. Its a continuing issue with transmission and they should tell or warn people.
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate and vibrate upon the depression of the accelerator without warning. The contact then called the manufacturer where he was informed about an extended warranty that had been placed on certain model vehicles for the failure; however, his year vehicle was not included. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
My driver's side air bag warning light came on yesterday (Jan 5th, 2021). To be specific, it flashes on and off constantly while the engine is running. The dealer 'reset' the light and it stopped flashing. But after driving the car for about an hour, the flashing light has returned and will not stop. The dealer informs me that I will need to replace 2 parts (a cable and a control unit I believe). Total parts and labor will be $2200 dollars plus tax. Isn't an airbag something that should last for the life of the car? My car has 127,000 miles on it and I have owned it since 2018. To my knowledge, it has never been in an accident.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 30-35 MPH, the vehicle made clicking and rattling sounds. Additionally, the vehicle was shaking. The vehicle was taken to three independent mechanics and diagnosed with transfer case assembly - Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) failure. The transfer case assembly - Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSFER CASE HAD METAL FRAGMENTS IN IT.
While driving on the highway the car the vehicle shudders/vibrates and the stops accelerating even when the throttle is pressed to the floor. Example: If I am driving at 80 miles an hour with my foot on the throttle, the vehicle will begin to decline in speed (dropping to 70 or 60 miles an hour) and will not accelerate any faster once additional pressure is placed on the throttle. After thorough review, it was found that this is a common issue with the 2013 Nissan Rogues. According to Vehiclehistory.com, Nissan extended the 2013 Nissan Rogue transmission warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles for the continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the 2013 Rogue. This site, (Nhtsa.gov) also has multiple complaints regarding the Power Train on the 2013 Rogues listing the same issues. Upon contacting the Regal Nissan Dealership located at 1090 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell, GA 30076, I was informed that there is nothing they could do as a formal recall had not been issued for my specific VIN number. I am currently submitting a claim to the BBB National Programs as well.
Transmission stopped working suddenly after pulling onto busy road and I was forced to pull over to shoulder to avoid being hit by other cars
The airbag light recently turned on and Nissan declined repairs or assistance with repairs.
My 2013 Rogue is having electrical issues and power transmission problems.
Transmission went out and I see many people complaining of the same thing! CVT problems there should be a recall on this transmission!!!!
When driving home from Demark S.C to Milledgeville, Ga. last Sunday when around the car stop accelerating and was making a whining noise.. The R.P. M. meter was over 8 and the speedometer was stuck on 60 m.p.h. This went on for around ten minuets, Then started back to normal. This is the second time happened when taking a similar.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at a low rate of speed, the vehicle began to jerk as the check engine light illuminated the instrument panel. As the contact continued to drive, the vehicle would not accelerate above 5 MPH. Once the contact and her husband made it home she had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact called County Line Nissan North(522 Winsted Rd, Torrington, CT 06790) and Balise Nissan of West Springfield(500 Riverdale St, West Springfield, MA 01089), and both referred her to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was towed back to the contact's house and had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000
Starting 9/1/21 there was a delayed and jerking reaction when the gas pedal was pressed from a full stop. This was very dangerous when trying to cross intersections during city driving, as the car behind could not anticipate that our car wouldn’t go and our car was not able to cross intersections at normal speed, putting us in the way of other traffic trying to cross. During highway driving the RPMs began to run very high without an associated change in speed, causing the driver to be alarmed. An inspection by our local independent mechanic determined the transmission needs replacement. This diagnosis was then confirmed by our local Nissan dealer. The car is currently available for inspection at the Nissan dealer. There was a check engine or service now light that went on when the car would first turn on, but it would go off when the car was being driven.
Vehicle loses power on long er drives and slows speed to unsafe speed on hwys. Rpms go high about 4. Check engine light came on. Code P0744 torque converter clutch circuit power train system.
We live in the Ozarks where it is very hilly. We have had several occurrences where we have traveled uphill while in our 2013 Nissan Rogue and we have had to pull over due to issues with the CVT. It is very dangerous when on the highway and the speed limit is 65 and the Rogue won't accelerate past 45 mph. The first time that this happened, we took it to a Nissan dealership and they said that the car needed a cooler kit ($200). We were out of town and they were not able to make the repairs same day so we declined. Our regular auto shop has stated that they see issues all the time with the transmission of the 2013 Rogues. It was recommended to us to get a new transmission but they aren't sure if that would actually fix the issue. They recommended selling the vehicle as Nissan is notorious for not wanting to correct their issues. The most recent incident regarding the CVT was 9/17 when my husband and I were looking to travel for a day trip an hour and a half away. We were unable to make the trip as they were many hills and the CVT made us pull over several times. We were very lucky to be in the right lane and only almost got hit twice. Unfortunately there is not always a safe spot to pull over when the CVT acts up which has left us in on the shoulder of hills. We ended up turning back around after waiting for the engine to cool for a couple of hours. This car is a nightmare.
Daughter driving to and from work. Car stalls and will not accelerate. It shakes and whistles. I called Nissan Headquarters because I knew other Nissan models have been given a 120,000 mile extended warranty to cover defective transmissions. This particular vehicle is not covered, but on carcomplaints.com it is one of the worst reported vehicles. My daughter is pregnant. This car is not safe and should be a required fixed by company.
CVT transmission and it is available for inspection While traveling on the interstate, on a mild elevation increase, there was an immediate loss of power, dropped from 80 mph to 60-65 mph and the rpms were almost in the red. The vehicle behind us was fortunately paying attention because they changed lanes without hitting us. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer and a third party transmission service center. The Nissan Dealership has inspected the vehicle. There were no indications that the problem would happen.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 70-75 MPH with cruise control activated, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and decelerated to 50-55 MPH. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle would not exceed 50-55 MPH. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated he veered to the side of the road and he turned off the vehicle. The contact stated he restarted the vehicle. The accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle still failed to exceed 50-55 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed as the OBD reader could not read the codes. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle was jerking while driving. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist due to the age and mileage of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
Loss of power after driving for an hour or more and going uphill. RPMs will only go to 3000 and unable to accelerate. Driving in heavy traffic going through Salt Lake City interstate 15, had loss of power and was unable to accelerate as traffic slowed and then sped up again. Just returned from the 2245 mile trip and experienced the problem multiple times. One time was parked in a driveway at a slight decline and was unable to back out of the driveway until I waited for the engine to cool off. I did call my local dealer where it was purchased and they told me it was an underlying issue. Will be scheduling a diagnostic check this coming week. No warning lights on dash, just sudden loss of power.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while entering and starting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated and continuously blinking. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and could not determine the cause of the failure. The dealer recommended that the spiral cable in the air bag be replaced. The contact was not able to do the replacement on the vehicle due to the cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,003.
I noticed my vehicle started whining when I would drive up a steep hill. I took it to my mechanic who told me it was the transmission. I then took it to the Nissan dealer who I bought it from who also said I needed a new transmission. My vehicle had 78,900 miles. I called Nissan who was no help at all. The service manager at the the dealership said that they replace about 30 transmissions a month. My cost the the replacement transmission was $4,311.00.
Lost power going up hills on a trip. Had to keep pulling over to cool off the transmission. Cruise control popped of and then I would continue to lose power. Went to St George Transmission was told I had a vapor lock in my transmission. Can't travel far with my vehicle due to losing power
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated to 40 MPH. The contact stated that after 30 minutes the vehicle regained normal functions and was able to exceed 40 MPH. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
We were driving on a freeway going out of Houston with a speed of 75 mph. Suddenly the car slowed down to 45 mph. This almost caused us to have an accident with motorists from behind. We had to drive the car at 45 mph all the way from Houston, TX to Austin, TX. This was also very dangerous since we had to drive on the shoulder to avoid being rear-ended. This was over two years ago when car had mileage less than 120,000 miles. Nissan refused to replace tranmission (CVT). Their recommendation was to add a transmission cooler. This works up to 68 mph. Over that, computer puts car into "Safe" Mode (45 mph).
Recalls for model years of 2014-2016 as well as 2013 sentras due to passenger air bag sensor malfunction. Recall states the the sensor doesn’t detect when passenger is in seat and will not deploy in event of accident. Drive a 2013 rogue sv with same exact issue as described in recall for other vehicles but 2013 model year not included in recall when this is a prevelant issue with Nissan among many makes and models and for many years. Very hazardous to have a passenger in vehicle and air bags keep saying they are turned off. Big safety issue and don’t understand how Nissan is not including 2013 rogue in airbag recall when It has the same exact issue that is stated in recall but instead of fixing their major safety defect that could put many children , adults , elderly in a deadly situation. They decide to not include rogue from 2013 and instead are trying to charge over 1000 to replace the seat to fix their sensor defect. Please investigate as I’m certain there are many other rogue with the same issue as what has been diagnosed by Nissan was this exact problem they recalled for other model years and are fixing but yet want to charge when this is a dangerous known issue from Nissan across several makes and model years as well as generations
Only a month after I bought the car I was going normal highway speeds(around 70mph) and it felt as if my car slipped into neutral, I had 0 acceleration and continued to slow down on the highway, I shifted into low gear and back to drive and it picked up again. This has happened four more times where the cars automatic transmission has slipped.
I lose power when traveling at high speeds in hot temperatures. I drive on a toll road that is 75MPH, when it is hot out I completely lose all power no matter how much I step on the gas. I slowed down to 40 MPH on a road that is 75. PLEASE figure this out and get it fixed. It is very scary when people are behind you and almost hit you. I put in 1 date that I remember this happening, but it has happened consistently for about 3 years.
I have had numerous big repairs done to this vehicle. On 06/25/2021, I took the car to have the air conditioner fixed. It turned out it was the compressor that needed to be replaced. The next day I picked up the car and the mechanic told me this car needs to be parked right away because it needs a few major repairs. It needed the front n rear pads n rotors, the right axle and the left lower control arm. Since we need this car to go to work and transport our children to their appointments, we went ahead and had the repairs done. We brought the car on 07/07/21 to have it repaired. Total amount paid in all repairs was $1,737.00. The next day i took the car to work to test it out after all the repairs and it drove fine. The following day my wife took the car in the morning to work. She noticed the car was stalling and would not go forward even pressing the gas to the bottom. She was at a stop light and when it turned green she pressed the gas to go and the car just stopped and the check engine came on. It is the transmission. She was able to pull to the side safely. The transmission on this car was replaced on 10/01/19 after we called Nissan corporation and they agreed to pay 70% of the cost. I called Nissan yesterday 07/19/21 and they returned the call to me today 07/20/21. They told me they are unable to do anything about it since the warranty on the previous transmission had expired. We are now stuck with this car and we are still making payments and we have no idea what to do.
For the last 3 years my car on a hill or incline has stop shifting gears and its getting worse and worse every year. My car only has 101,000 miles! I had it for 5 years, took it to a certified mechanic to hear the transmission is going and there are numerous reports of CVT transmission issues with this SUV. And a loud electrical noise all the time. Nissan USA only agreed to pay half of the repairs for the faulty CVT transmission.
CVT transmission failed on me as I was driving luckily no one got hurt and I was able go pull off the shoulder just in time. Three months later I buy a new transmission and car doesn’t not start sometimes after getting it installed. This year and model NEEDS TO BE RECALLED NOW! I’m not the only person who this has happened to. Enough is enough Nissan! It is nhtsa job to make sure the vehicles we are in are safe! I’m so frustrated and confused on why there hasn’t been recalls on this awful issue yet!
Vehicle loses power/ability to accelerate on longer drives, especially when up/down hills are involved.
After driving on the freeway in hot weather the car car decelerates and will not accelerate. Car goes from 65 MPH to around 40 MPH. This is a very dangerous situation in traffic. This has happened several times every year since we bought car. I have 'googled' this and it seems to be quite common with this Nissan model. Also other Nissan models. I am afraid to take this car on any road trip. Nissan will not address this issue. Something needs to be resolved before someone gets killed in this car!
Our 2013 Nissan Rogue seatbelt light flashes for no apparent reason. This seems to be a problem that has never been resolved by the manufacturer. It also seems that it is a well documented situation. Nissan should be made to research and give a definite fix without the customer suffering trial and error repairs.
When driving in approximately 90* weather on the highway, we lost all power/pickup and the car wouldn't get over approximately 45mph. This was an extreme safety hazard as the road we were on had no breakdown lane. We were eventually able to pull off the highway and let the vehicle cool for about 20 minutes and then we went backroads for the remainder of the drive. This has happened at least 5 additional times, all when driving on the highway in high temps and when the RPMs on the car are higher than 2K consistently. This is so dangerous and I cannot believe that Nissan isn't doing anything to make this safety issue right.
Purchased this car in 2015 from.Nissan dealership. The car randomly loses power when I'm on the highway. It's happened 3 times within the last 3 months. The car smokes a bit when this happens. Took it to my licensed mechanic who's owns a shop and was told my Transmission was fine, the fluids in the car where up to par and he couldn't find anything wrong with the engine. Was told Nissan Rogue has many issues with the CVT and its worth seeing if there are any open recalls on the car. So I checked by vin number and nothing came up. But as I do my research into other owners that have the same make and model as well year of my car, they are having the same issue. Wondering why hasn't this been looked into.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
