2020 Nissan Rogue Sport

Defect. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

Risk. Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

The air conditioner has blown warm air off/on since I purchased the vehicle. On July 27th, 2026 while sitting in my car with the air conditioner on it ran hot. The gage went to the highest level and white smoke was escaping from under the hood. I had to get the car towed to a shop for repair. I was informed the radiator coolant fan needed to be replaced. It was replaced with part no. 620-473. I also had a flush completed.

Vehicle randomly overheats, primarily when idling and is stationary. Temperate will send gauge hot andwill pin to the hot side. Cooling system over pressurized. Steam started coming out of engine box. Car died and would not start. Fortunately I was able to vent the overflow cap. Needed to add a gallon of water.

Daughter was driving and smoke starting coming out of car. Had to pull over on side of the road - which is unsafe. The radiator Fan Assembly needs replaced, PCV valve needs replaced, CVT fluid which has been confirmed by Ted Russel Nissan in Knoxville, TN. No warnings went off for her to be prepared. This is a known issue and a class action lawsuit was filed in 2026.

The vehicle’s air conditioning began turning on and off intermittently while driving. I initially had the issue inspected by an independent mechanic, who checked the refrigerant and confirmed that the freon level was normal. After further inspection, the mechanic determined that the radiator cooling fan was not operating properly. The failed cooling fan appears to be affecting the vehicle’s cooling system and air conditioning operation. A malfunctioning radiator cooling fan can create a safety concern because it may prevent the engine from receiving adequate cooling, potentially leading to engine overheating, especially during extended driving or in hot conditions. The vehicle could potentially become disabled while being driven if the engine overheats. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The cooling fan assembly is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has not been inspected by Nissan, police, or an insurance representative to my knowledge. Prior to the failure being identified, the primary symptom was the air conditioning repeatedly turning on and off unexpectedly. There were no known warning lights or messages prior to the issue. The refrigerant was checked and found to be at an appropriate level, which led the mechanic to further investigate the cooling system and identify the nonfunctioning radiator fan. Unkown whether the fan failure is related to a larger manufacturing or design defect. However, I am concerned because

The contact owns a 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport. The contact stated that while driving 30–40 MPH uphill, the vehicle decelerated unexpectedly, and failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle rolled backwards. The contact activated the hazard lights and repeatedly depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to stop, causing the rear of the vehicle to crash into the front of a trailing vehicle. The vehicle then completely shut off and became inoperable. No warning light was illuminated before or after the crash. No injuries were reported. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was later towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the mass airflow sensor and speed sensor needed to be replaced, along with a system calibration. The contact requested that the dealer place the repair on hold due to the severity of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

I have a 2020 Nissan roque sport with under 70K miles. Started experiencing loud shaking and rattle when turning off car, seems to be the radiator cooling fan. There is a current class action lawsuit but no official recall. If i turn off A/C 2 minutes before getting to park and turn off car it does not rattle when i turn off i believe it does shake and rattle but with engine running do not feel it. No warnings or engine lights come on, the temparature of car does not rise past 1/2 point.

While in rush hour traffic with over 100ft of clear road no cars, the car made its beeping noise and applied the ebrakes. This could've ended in a loss of life on the high way

There is oil leaking into the engine. Whole engine needs to be replaced

Seat sensor is not sensing passenger sitting. Airbag off light is off on dash.

The radiator fans in the Nissan Rogues are faulty. The AC stops working and then the car overheats causing loss of fluid and white smoke coming out from underneath the hood. The engine light didn't even come on to warn us that the car was overheating.

Fan Assembly - Nissan (21481-6MA0B) failed at 68,000 miles. Can can overheat and car will fail. This fan helps cool the AC and radiator.

The fuel gauge has failed. The ac unit has been finicky since I purchased the vehicle and has already received one repair. Fuel gauge has been reading incorrectly for 2 weeks now. Read that it is a common issue for the nissan rogue sports. A few days ago my forward collision warning came on and said system error. There were no objects in front of me or stuck to the vehicle.

I had to replace my cooling system (fan, radiator, hoses, coolant) on this car after driving it only 30K miles. This led to over heating the car engine and stopped working because of that.. I was told by Nissan dealer it stopped working and they are seeing many of those issues related to the same car that I have. It costs me $1500 to replace it.

The engine overheated due to cooling fan malfunctioning.

Radiator fan issue. Dealership told me it is a common problem with this car. Cost is crazy expensive to fix . And if I fix it with Nissan part will this happen again because they are making bad parts.

The electric fan motor on the radiator failed. This caused the vehicle to overheat. The cap on the coolant reservoir did not actuate and the coolant reservoir exploded. The mechanical failure of the fan lead to a catastrophic failure of the coolant reservoir. If someone, a service tech or customer was under the hood when this happened they would most likely have died due to the extreme force and heated liquid coming out of the exploded reservior tank.

The cooling fan is defective and is causing the vehicle to overheat major safety concern for my family .

Driver side door handle broken. Spring came loose when opening door. Dash has permanent alert showing door open when closed.

My acceleration hasn’t been working properly. I had my car inspected by a third-party and they said my transmission is slipping. The mechanic said this is a defect he is seeing in my type of car. He said bring it to Nissan so I did. Because there is no light or code popping up yet in my car, they refuse to do anything. They told me to keep driving my car unless a warning light comes on, despite me informing that I almost crashed several times due to the lack of acceleration.

Engine shut off while waiting at a red light when pressing the gas pedal, everything else working find gear shit moving but car like disconnected,then 1 week later shuts off again at a drive through while pressing the brakes , remote start has never worked in the vehicle which is equipped with one, sometimes the screens shuts off while driving having to turn on and off the car multiple times until it works

The cooling fan isn't coming on

I was driving home when I heard a bump sound and the malfunction came up on the control panel, the steering wheel would not stay straight and I had to put it a little to the left to drive straight . I proceeded to go forward through the stop sign and turned left to get to the house and when I went to turn l=right to get in the driveway it felt like I had a flat tire all of a sudden. I put it in park and got out and the front right tire on the passenger side was facing out away from the car! I immediately called aaa to bring it to the dealership.

My car just made 50k miles and the cooling fan has gone out. A google search for a more reasonable replacement option (I was quoted almost $1100 for parts and labor) led me to a message board of other owners with the same issue and a class action lawsuit against Nissan. If this is indeed a widespread and known issue, Nissan needs to own up to it and make it right.

On Saturday [XXX] while driving on [XXX] while in cruise control mode and set approx. 71 mph I know that my right knee made minimal contact with keyfob and the engine seemed to shut down and the vehicle decelerated immediately, I had no desire to brake due to my seeing my speed was near 30 mph. Traffic was not directly behind and all I was trying to locate was the 4 way hazard to engage which having only recently purchasing [XXX] and I had driven maybe 60 miles I located but with seeing a couple of vehicles approaching and being in the #2 lane my steering was stiff with little chance to get over safely to the #1 lane or to the further left HOV lane, I reached down w/ right hand and made very minimal contact with ignition/ keyfob area and the vehicle had power and was able to regain speed. I absolutely did not attempt to turn the key that was still fully in place. I can not say that other than making contact with no aggressive action or intent was I to believe the vehicle would again be running as it had prior and I proceeded the remainder of my trip (approx. 15-18 miles) with no further issues and without a clue other than I had been made aware of the recall prior to purchase and told it was not anything to be concerned with that the jackknife keyfob seemed to lock in the open position fine, and to just leave it in that position, which I did not agree with that opinion as I read about this safety issue and have brought up on at least 4 occasions prior to and after the sale. W

Coolant fans went out.

My car stopped in the middle of AN EXTREMELY busy road with no warning lights or signs that my engine was over heating due to a faulty fan Giving more research into it there are thousands of people with Nissan rogue’s experiencing the same exact issue and Nissan has not tried to fix the problem They are installing faulty cooling fans in peoples cars and putting them in dangerous situations when their cars overheat in heavy traffic They are going to cause the death of someone when their car stalls on a busy street with no warning or sign I was almost hit by several other cars

The repair for the key recall is just wrong. Whoever thought to lock the key open took the easy way out. The key and key fob will break and is 4 1/2 inches long and difficult to carry. I know this is not life threatening but horrible fix to a problem.

There was about a handful of incidents in the almost 3 years that ive had this car where i am driving and suddenly the vehicle stops accelerating . the RPM shoots up and the speed stayed at 20mph. I took it to the Nissan dealership service center for a diagnostic and was told that there are no problems with my car.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport S AWD - The entire car unexpectedly shut down (I.E.: Exactly as if the car was completely off) while driving on two separate occasions, almost causing massive accidents and potential severe injury and/or death for everyone affected. Fortunately, I immediately reacted to get on a shoulder lane and allow the car to slow down, even though the car had no power steering, breaks that malfunctioned, and an electrical system/lights that completely went dead. This is all due to the JackKnife Key recall, which was not properly disclosed by the dealership, and which Nissan refuses to properly address and fix the matter even while acknowledging that an accident could have caused severe bodily injury and/or death. Also, the recall permanent fix is negligent due to the fact that the key fob would have a plastic spacer that would require key fob to have the key out in the open position at all times. The issue is that the key fob was never engineered to be in an open position at all times, so it would most likely break fast. This would require the consumer to now pay thousands of dollars to have a a new key fob made and to replace the affected areas of the key slot. Nissan should be responsible for finding a permanent fix , which should be to replace all affected parts with new ones, instead of inserting a cheap plastic spacer in the key fob which would require it to stay erect 24/7 all in the name of profits. ABOUT 50 MILES IN DURING A ROAD TRIP, CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED. SLUGGISH WHEN ACCELERATING, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH. GEAR WOULD NOT RELEASE TO REVERSE OR PUT INTO PARK TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. HAD TO FIND AN OPEN FIELD IN ORDER TO TURN AROUND AND DRIVE BACK HOME DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO REVERSE. PROCEEDED BACK WITH FLASHERS ON AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED. WHEN I REACHED HOME, I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO POWER OFF THE VEHICLE, IT GAVE A WARNING THAT IT MUST BE IN PARK FIRST BUT I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR IN PARK AT THIS POINT. DURING THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AND RETURNING HOME, THERE WAS NO WARNINGS PRESENT ON THE DASH. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH DURING THIS INCIDENT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC! I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN ON MONDAY. IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND JUST HIT 50,000 MILES. UPON RESEARCHING, THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ROGUES OF CERTAIN YEARS, MINE INCLUDED IN 2020, WITH NISSAN.

The contact was unaware if there were any warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to service the vehicle; the vehicle was towed to a local dealer and the contact was informed that the cooling fan needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that parts were on backorder and the vehicle could not be serviced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Cooling fan stopped working. I was told by the Nissan dealership this is a big issue with this specific vehicle and that it’s hard to get the part because this is always an issue. No messages appeared. My AC stopped working and I took it to the dealership were they said if I drive with the cooling fan broken it will explode. How is this not a recall? This has been reproduced by ALL Nissan dealerships and the Nissan dealership is who told me this and diagnosed my car.

Vehicle has 61k miles and the a/c began blowing cold and hot intermittently as the car was idle but no engine lights were coming on. 5 days later a mechanic was able to look at vehicle and discovered the one fan responsible for entire car wasn’t not coming on and it was only the air being pushed into the front of vehicle by having it in motion that was turning the fan thus making the vehicle blow cold air when in motion and keeping the engine cooled. No warning lights were coming on and staying on

My automatic braking system malfunctioned twice within a year. It stopped and started right up again even though there was no car close in front of me or beside me. The first time it happened on Interstate 95. The second time I was driving on a road going approximately 45 miles per hour. Thankfully, on both occasions, there was no car close behind me. I took it a Nissan dealership. They test drove it and did a diagnostic test. The problem could be diagnosed or duplicated. Since this last occurrence 2 weeks, I now manually disable the ABS every time I get in my car.

Bought new in 2020, then after 24k miles, had rough idle, uneven acceleration, occasional lurching while decelerating. Check engine indicator, code p0301. Dealership diagnosed faulty transmission, said needed replacement, then took about 90 days to finish repairing the vehicle. Now, as I expected, 25k miles later, exactly the same situation, except so far the check engine light has not come on and diagnostic code was only obtained by checking OBDII data after noticing the return of symptoms. I have no reason to believe if the vehicle is turned in that it will be completed in a reasonable time frame. Also it's clear that even after replacement, the new component is only likely to run for an additional 20k-25k miles.

The radio will cut off screen for the radio goes out and when I was backing up the screen went black. The radio went out more then 3 times this has happen multiple times. The first time I can remember was September 30, 2021 and latest was like June 2022 can’t remember the time in between

While my wife was travelling onto a service ramp to enter Hwy 820 west, she didn't see any vehicles on the service road. When she looked forward, she saw a car stopped, without tale lights on. As she got closer, she noticed the car was not moving. She was slowing down, but when noticing the car not moving, she pressed harder on the brakes. The roads were wet, and she slide into the car. While the seat belts held, none of the air bags deployed. No police report provided. She called them, but since nobody needed an ambulance, they indicated nobody was hurt. She did tell them she and her mom were in pain.

My 2020 Nissan Sport braked while I was driving and then lost power completely and would not accelerate no matter how much or how long I pressed the gas pedal. This occurred for no reason and there was no obstacle in front of the vehicle. This is a very serious problem and could cause a serious accident. A message appeared in the instrumental panel saying “Warning Malfunction” and the symbol of two cars colliding appeared.
