2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Outlander Sport vehicles equipped with continuously variable transmissions and mechanical key ignition systems. A software error in the transmission control unit (CVT-ECU) may incorrectly reduce the transmission gear ratio at high speeds, which can result in an engine stall.

Risk. An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the CVT-ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2022. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-22-004.

When backing up the rear camera display is too dark to see. I have altered the settings for display from auto, to night, to day, and also adjusted the brightness level all the way up, but nothing changes. It remains the same and you can't safely see what is on the camera display.

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the navigational screen failed to function as intended. The contact was unable to connect the cell phone to the infotainment system or use Google Maps. The failure prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. In addition, the touch-screen icons failed to function as intended. The message "Maintenance Required" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the infotainment system had failed. The contact was informed that the system needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that a fix was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The back-up camera is BARELY visible at any time, no matter if it's daylight or dark. It is impossible to see if there is any object behind my vehicle.

Entire engine and electrical system failure not corrected with new battery or $30,000 mi. service. Once I turn car off, everything freezes up and won’t start again. Windows, steering, starter, everything locks up. Had to tow it to service 2 times in 3 weeks and they claim they can’t find problem. Dangerous!

Car suddenly freezes and no system works. Won’t start, shift, whole electric system gone. Happened several times. Very dangerous and dealer has no idea what’s wrong. Can’t get anyone at Mitsubishi to respond. Only had car 6 months and it has $36,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The contact stated after driving 35 MPH, the contact attempted to park the vehicle and heard water gurgling through the engine. The contact also stated that the vehicle had lost a significant amount of gasoline after being refueled and then driving 20 miles to the residence. The contact also stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated and lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The failure occurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,467.

I had an accident on 28th May 2023 at 5:00am in my residential area while driving my personally owned Mitsubishi Outlander Sports 2022 model with only about 6800 miles on it at about 25 miles/hr. speed, due to fatigue after coming from long oversees trip! I had my "Front Collision Mitigation" on! My car's right front hit a black truck on its left rear. My car was badly damaged. (Pictures enclosed). Thanks God, my driver side airbags deployed, and I did not suffer from body injury! My complaint is regarding "Front Collision Mitigation" which was on, but didn't stop my car hitting the truck, otherwise collision might not happened. My concern is as this safety measure didn't work in my case it might not work in another car. My car is not repairable, although it is drivable with intact engine, transmission, and electric system. I have paid the damages to the truck owner. I had only liability insurance so insurance will not pay for my car damages. I have not sold my wrecked car yet. If NHTSA or Mitsubishi motors want to acquire it, they may have it for investigation, research, and improvement. I will appreciate if Mitsubishi motors replaced my car. Thank you!

My windshield has cracked three times I have only had the car for a year these cracks all happened within 6 months of each I do not drive behind trucks I do not have rocks that are coming and hitting it there are no chips and it's always cracking in the same space almost directly in the middle. This has got to be a defect. I have gone to two different places to have it replaced so it cannot be bad workmanship. And twice the crack has appeared overnight another reason I know it's not rocks and I just have really bad luck.

The backup camera is too dark and blurry, cannot see anything from it in the daytime. There are no settings to make it brighter. I have cleaned the outside of the camera lense, no change.

Whenever I was attempting to pull out into traffic the Outlander had little power to the point where in the middle of the turn it hesitated to accelerate so much that I was afraid I would get hit so I had no choice but to swerve over to the shoulder to avoid a collision.I took it to two different Mitsubishi dealers and were told by both that they could not find any problems with the transmission even though I know what I have been through with the lack of power ,hesitating, and noises that I have recorded on my phone coming from the transmission when I change gears.

Brought vehicle in for recall repair for the software update. The update failed and also caused the TCM module to fail. Its been over a week since i last had my vehicle and the service shop is still waiting for the replacement modules which is on "backorder"
