Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 3500 vehicles upfitted into campers or recreational vehicles. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) unit may become disabled on these vehicles.

Risk. If ESC becomes disabled, vehicle driving stability may be impacted under certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear-wheel speed sensor with a more robust sensor, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on March 10, 2021. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Mercedes Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. The hydraulic power steering return line hoses may detach at their connection points under certain operating conditions, causing hydraulic fluid to leak.

Risk. The sudden loss of power steering assist and hydraulic steering fluid leaking onto the roadway may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will check the return line connections of the power steering system, correcting it as needed, free of charge. The recall began December 23, 2020. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the driver frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

Risk. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and Sprinter 3500 vehicles, equipped with folding seats (sales code S20). The unloaded vehicle weight (UVW) label on these incomplete vehicles may be incorrect.

Risk. The incorrect UVW label can result in final stage manufacturers exceeding the maximum vehicle weight once the vehicle is completed. A vehicle that exceeds its maximum weight has an increased risk of a crash.

Defect. Midwest Automotive Designs, LLC (Midwest) is recalling certain Custom Vans and Camper Van recreational vehicles built on 2014-2017 Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis and 2016-2017 RAM Promaster chassis. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. The label on the B-pillar may state a higher maximum vehicle load capacity than the vehicle is designed for. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Risk. If the load capacity information is incorrect on the label, the vehicle may be overloaded, increasing the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500/3500 vehicles. The affected vehicles were manufactured without a driveshaft catch strap, allowing a loose driveshaft to strike the fuel tank.

Risk. A loose driveshaft may strike and puncture the gas tank, resulting in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with reinforced front axles. The affected vehicles have tire labels on the B-pillar that list a tire pressure that is too low.

Risk. Operating the vehicle with low front tire pressures may result in tire damage, increasing the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The bracket for the center support bearing of the drive shaft may not have been properly welded.

Risk. If the event of a crash, the bracket may detach and the drive shaft may damage the fuel system, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners and dealers will install three additional rivets to secure the bracket, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on May 5, 2017. The recall began on July 7, 2017. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans. These vehicles were manufactured without a reinforcement plate and protective bracket on the air bag control unit. As a result, the air bag control unit may not remain functional after the initial impact, possibly preventing additional air bags from deploying in response to a secondary impact.

Risk. If additional air bags do not deploy as intended, the occupants are at an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will install a reinforcement plate and protective bracket around the air bag control unit, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2017. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.

Defect. Midwest Automotive Designs, LLC (Midwest) is recalling certain model year 2016 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2016, to September 30, 2016, equipped with certain left side seat adjusters, model number 486077 manufactured by Atwood. The affected seat adjusters may allow the seats to move in the event of a crash. As such, these adjusters fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages", and 207 "Seating Systems."

Risk. If the seat moves in the event of a crash, the seat occupant would be at an increased risk of injury.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2016 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured March 1, 2016, to May 31, 2016. The bolts connecting the lower seat belt connection to the rear bench seat may not have been properly tightened.

Risk. If the bolts were not properly tightened, the seat belt may fail to secure the seat occupant in the event of a crash.

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2015, to April 30, 2016, and 2015-2016 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured May 1, 2015, to April 30, 2016. The affected vehicles are configured to have super-high roofs, but may not be equipped with the required crash pads.

Risk. If the required crash pads are missing, it can increase the risk of injury to a front passenger seat occupant if they are unbelted.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mercedes Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured April 1, 2015, to October 31, 2015. The affected vehicles may have had multiple layers of paint applied, and as a result, in a crash, the windows may separate from the vehicle when the outer layer of paint peels from the layer below.

Risk. If the windows separate from the vehicle in a crash, the occupants are at a greater risk of injury.

The affected vehicles have a tire pressure label that incorrectly states a higher maximum load capacity than the vehicle is designed for.

Risk. The vehicle may be overloaded if loaded to the incorrect weight shown on the label, possibly resulting in axle or tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** The engine/internal engine components and fuel injection system failed. was stated in video that fuel injector looked fine. cylinder #2, including a burnt valve and damage to the top of the piston. The Mercedes-Benz dealership also stated that it was highly likely that the cylinder #2 potentially by becoming stuck wide open or developing a severely abnormal spray pattern. The failed engine and components may be available for inspection upon request, depending on the current repair status and whether the components have been retained. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** The engine experienced a serious internal failure while the vehicle was being driven. The dealership identified a burnt valve and piston damage in cylinder #2 and stated that a mechanical failure of the cylinder #2 fuel injector was highly likely. A catastrophic engine failure while the vehicle is being operated can result in sudden loss of engine power, creating a potential safety risk to the occupants and other motorists. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The problem was confirmed and diagnosed by a Mercedes-Benz dealership. The dealership performed a borescope inspection, compression testing, and smoke testing. The dealership documented a burnt valve in cylinder #2 and damage to the top of the piston. The dealership als

Unshielded rear-center generator exhaust pipe positioned with approx 12 in clearance above the ground, ignited the exterior of vehicle when generator operated, causing total loss. My safety as well as my pets was put at great risk due to this design and lack of shielding. The problem has not been reproduced of confirmed by dealer or independent service center, however the fact of such pipe getting hot, and nbeing related to the generator was recognized by the dealer. There were no warning lamps, warning stickers near the electronic start switch in the vehicle; no messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The design foreseeably exposes owners to fire risk, given owners only recognize the exhaust from the rear side of the vehicle; assume if the engine is off no exhaust heats up enough to start a grass or other fire. But, the majority of owners like myself do not know of any other exhaust outside of the vehicle is present. The shocking 12 inch proximity from the ground; at the rear of a 25 ft vehicle typically parking in car spaces with an overhang of the rear behind the rear wheels or a curb is a ridiculous fire risk to all owners, and the surrounding community. This is a design flaw still inherent in that same vehicle today,

Power steering return hose slipped off 1/2” and fluid leak. Has a recall, but not applicable to this vin. Although it appears to be effecting it? Secured line to best abilities.

The contact owns a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the hood unintendedly opened, striking the windshield. The contact pulled to the side of the road and became aware that the latch screws had detached; however, the latch was still welded to the vehicle. The contact was able to clamp the hood down with a ratchet. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V665000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact was referred by the Insurance provider to Safelite Auto Glass to have the windshield replaced. However, due to the damage done to the roof of the vehicle, the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer was contacted and informed of the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the ABS warning light and the electronic stability control warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated that the motorhome was making abnormal clunking sounds. The contact was able to continue to drive at less than 30 MPH. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that one of the wheels must have failed to patch the ground. The manufacturer advised the contact to turn the vehicle on and off three times using the ignition key for the warning lights to disappear. The contact stated that he did so and the warning lights and warning messages disappeared; however, they reappeared the next day. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH and towing his Volkswagen vehicle, the transmission disengaged and the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound. Then the transmission reengaged and disengaged causing the vehicle to lurch forward. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle the failure reoccurred. The RV was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rear axle speed sensors, knock sensors needed to be replaced, and the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V042000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) was completed. The contact also stated that the dealer cross-fired the speed sensors which caused the computer to not allow the vehicle to drive more than 35 MPH. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired

The NHTSA law requires that the recall be done on a timely manner . Mercedes benz is not doing this . The wheel sensor recall is being not being done in a timely manner by Mercedes benz. They are typically making appointments 1 month to 3 months out to do a recall that takes 40 minutes to accomplish. .They are purposely endangering sprinter RV owners by their untimely repair schedule.

Due to the parts for the repair not being available, the dealer decided to place a new, yet defective, speed sensor on the vehicle as a temporary repair and the contact drove the vehicle back home. The contact had called three separate dealers and it was confirmed that the part would not be available until the fourth quarter of 2021. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 23,580. ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2019, I WAS DRIVING DOWNHILL ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD WHEN OUR RV, A 25' LTV UNITY ON A MERCEDES SPRINTER 3500 CHASSIS, SUDDENLY LURCHED AND FELT OUT OF CONTROL. THE BREAKS AND STEERING WERE UNRESPONSIVE, AND I WAS PUMPING THE BREAKS, HARD! AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF STRUGGLING TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AROUND A CURVEY DOWNHILL ROAD, CONTROL WAS RESTORED. LUCKILY, I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT NO ACCIDENT RESULTED, BUT IT REALLY SHOOK ME! A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER THE VEHICLE (STILL UNDER WARRANTY) WAS LOADED ONTO A FLATBED TRUCK AND HAULED 2 HOURS AWAY TO KNOXVILLE, TN; THE CLOSEST MERCEDES SPRINTER VAN SERVICE CENTER. THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. I WAS TOLD THE OTHER SENSORS MIGHT ALSO FAIL, BUT THEY COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNTIL THEY FAILED. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE HEARD FROM SEVERAL OTHER RVERS WITH MERCEDES SPRINTER CHASSIS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. FOR US, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER FEELS SAFE TO TAKE ON THE ROAD SINCE WE HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE NEXT SENSOR WILL FAIL. (PS - I TRIED TO SUBMIT THIS FORM EARLIER, BUT ACCIDENTALLY SELECTED 'I DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE SAFETY RECALL ALERTS' - I DO WISH TO RECEIVE THOSE ALERTS.

WHEEL SPEED SENSORS KEEP FAILING. I HAVE HAD EIGHT SENSORS FAIL IN THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ERRATICALLY, SPEED SURGES, ABS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND BRAKING IS IMPAIRED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

FOR THE THIRD TIME THE ESP AND ABS SYSTEM WARNING MESSAGE IS SHOWN, AT FIRST THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE INCREASES, IN THIS CASE FROM THE SET 60 MPH TO 70, AT WHICH POINT I SHUT THE CRUISE CONTROL DOWN. FROM THEN ON FOR THE REST OF THE DAYS TRAVEL C.A.200 MILES AND FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP (450 MILES) CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERATIVE. EACH TIME IT HAPPENS A MECHANIC VISIT IS NECESSARY. THE VEHICLE IS A WINNEBAGO NAVION

I OWN AN RV ON A MERCEDES 3500 SPRINTER CHASIS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS FAILURES THAT CAUSE THE RV TO SPEED UP RAPIDLY AND I HAVE TO TAKE EMERGENCY ACTION TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. USUALLY, I SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ~43,000 MILES ON MY RV AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AND MERCEDES HAS REPLACED THE WHEEL SENSORS 6 DIFFERENT TIMES. ALL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROVIDED BY A MERCEDES DEALER SERVICE CENTER. DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF I AM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY OR CITY STREETS, WHEN THE FAILURE HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE STARTS TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, RPMS SKYROCKET, THE DASHBOARD GETS THREE TROUBLE INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT COME ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I AM PICKING UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE LOCAL MERCEDES DEALER TODAY AFTER JUST HAVING ANOTHER SENSOR FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING ON I-10 WHEN THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, RPMS WENT VERY HIGH. VERY SCARY SITUATION. THE "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" DATE I'VE ENTERED IS FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE NUMEROUS TIMES.

DRIVING ON A DRY DAY, SMOOTH ROAD, WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON 65MPH AT 7:45PM. THIS VEHICLE IS CONVERTED WITH A THOR 24HL CAMPER ON THE CHASSIS. FIVE HOURS INTO THE DAYS DRIVE THE VEHICLE FLASHED ASR/ESP TRIANGLE - AND JERKED ABRUPTLY BUT INSTANTANEOUSLY BUT REMAINED ON CRUISE CONTROL. 2 SECONDS LATER: ABS LIGHT ON, ASR/BAS LIGHT ON, ESP LIGHT ON CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED FUNCTIONING (FYI - A VERY HEAVY ACCELERATOR PEDAL SPRING MAKES DRIVING DIFFICULT, FOR HOURS ON END, WITHOUT CRUISE WORKING - ESPECIALLY FOR THE OLDER DRIVERS LIKELY TO BE DRIVING THIS RIG.) PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SET FLASHERS, AND TURNED OFF ENGINE FOR ONE MIN HOPING TO RESET THE FAULT. THE 5TH KEY TURN AFTER INITIAL FAULT AND FAILURE OF CRUISE CONTROL THE THREE LIGHTS WENT OUT BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. ON APPROXIMATELY THE TENTH KEY TURN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT. VEHICLE RETURNED FOR SERVICE AT MERCEDES DEALERSHIP 'UNDER WARRANTY'. MY ISSUE LAYS IN THE POTENTIAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO ENTER INTO THE LIMP MODE IF ANOTHER CENSOR SHOWS A FAULT AND I'M ON THE ALASKA HIGHWAY 200 MILES FROM THE NEAREST POSSIBLE SERVICE. DEALER REFUSES T

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE OUT OF POCKET ALL FOUR BRAKE SPEED SENSORS WHILE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY LOCAL MERCEDES DEALER EVENTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THIS, BUT WILL NOT REIMBURSE SINCE THEY DID NOT REPLACE THEM. THIS ALL HAPPENED BETWEEN 17 AND 21,000 MILES AND CREATED UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS.

REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 30,000 MILES AND NOW BOTH FRONT WHEEL SENSORS ARE FAULTY AT 50.000 MILES. IN MY READING THIS IS A COMMONLY FAULTY PART AND IT COST $ 760.00 TO REPLACE BOTH SENSORS. FORTUNATELY THE FIRST SENSOR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF YOU WILL LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. BECAUSE YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO TRADE AN RV. I WAS ON A TRIP WHEN THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON ON DASH AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 7 HOURS HOMES. MY OWNERS MANUAL EXPRESSED I SHOULD SEEK TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ASAP.

WHEN I WENT TO TRY THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE THE FOLLOWING THINGS HAPPENED: A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON . ABS, COLLISION AVOIDANCE, CRUISE CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE, ESC OR ESP. OVER TIME THE LIGHTS CLEARED BUT CAME BACK ON WEEKS APART. I AM A RETIRED NASA SAFETY/RELIABLY ENGINEER. IN MY OPINION ALL OF THESE LIGHTS COME ON AS A RESULT OF FAILURES OF ONE OR MORE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM AS WHEN THERE IS A FAILED OR INTERMITTENT OPERATION OF A FAILED SPEED SENSOR. ALL OF THESE SAFETY SYSTEMS FAIL WHEN THE ONE SENSOR FAILS. CRUISE CONTROL BECOME INOPERABLE. ABS, FORWARD COLLISION, AND PARKING SENSORS BECOME INOPERABLE. BRAKES PERFORM ERRATICALLY FOR SEVERAL MOMENTS AND THEN ABS INDICATES IT IS INOPERABLE. THEY ULTIMATELY DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE VEHICLE?S REAR SPEED SENSORS HAD FAILED AND THEY REPLACED IT. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE UNDER MERCEDES-BENZ WARRANTY. ON JULY 7, 2019, WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 3500 RV IN HEAVY TRAFFIC DURING A RAINSTORM IN BRANSON, MISSOURI. MULTIPLE DASH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING THE VEHICLE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM HAD FAILED. THIS WAS THE SAME FAILURE WE HAD EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY, 2019. THE BRANSON AREA IS EXTREMELY HILLY BEING PART OF THE OZARK ?MOUNTAINS?. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SIGNIFICANT DANGERS OF TRYING TO DRIVE IN THIS AREA WITHOUT A WORKING BRAKING SYSTEM. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE OUR SPRINTER TO OUR RV PARK AND PARK IT. WE SPENT ALL DAY ON MONDAY, JULY 8, GETTING THE UNIT TOWED 90 MILES TO BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS, THE NEAREST MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER SERVICE CENTER. WE SPENT ALL THE NEXT DAY AT THE SERVICE CENTER GETTING THE UNIT REPAIRED. AGAIN, ONE OF THE REAR SPEED SENSORS WAS FOUND TO BE THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPLACED. OUR REPAIR WAS DELAYED AT THE SERVICE CENTER WHILE THE MERCEDES-BENZ SERVICE CENTER WAS WAITING FOR APPROVAL ON REPAIRING THIS SPEED SENSOR. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT MERCEDES-BENZ HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO SPEED SENSOR FAILURES ON MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTERS WITHIN THE LAST MONTH AND THEY HAD TO GET APPROVAL MERCEDES-BENZ IN GERMANY BEFORE MAKING REPAIRS. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE BY MERCEDES-BENZ AS AN EXTENSION OF OUR WARRANTY. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF SPEED SENSOR FAILURES ON MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTERS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND NUMEROUS OTHER SPRINTER/SPRINTER RV WEBSITES. SPEED SENSOR FAILU

REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FAILURE. CAN CAUSE VEHICLE TO SURGE UNCOMMANDED. VEHICLE ENTERS LIMITED OR LIMP MODE. SOME FEATURES / FUNCTIONS ARE DISABLED. WHILE STATIONARY VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE (SURGE) IN SPITE OF DRIVER BRAKE APPLICATION. VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS FAILURE TWO TIMES ONCE FOR EACH REAR WHEEL SENSOR FAILURE.

TAKATA RECALL. BUT NO BRAKE OR TAIL LIGHTS FIXED. VEHICLE IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. DEALER HAD VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS. MADE ME DRIVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE OFF THEIR LOT.

AT 12000 MILES, BOTH REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS FAILED CAUSING MULTIPLE INDICATOR PANEL ALARMS, SPONGY BRAKING AND DRIVETRAIN/TRANSMISSION TO STICK IN A GEAR, IE. 7-9-2018: PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WITH A 2018 THOR CHATEAU 24FS (WITH A 2016 SPRINTER 3500 DIESEL CHASSIS) WITH LESS THAN 9K MILES, I HAD A "BANG" FROM THE TRANSMISSION. IN HINDSIGHT, THIS WAS JUST AFTER A RIGHT TURN. ABOUT 300 MILES LATER AFTER A STOP LIGHT AND 90 DEGREE RIGHT TURN, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TRYING TO SHIFT BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN 2 AND AND 3 (OR MAYBE 1ST AND 2ND) IN SOMEWHAT VIOLENT RAPID ALTERNATION. I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE RV. RAN FINE. ABOUT 75 MILES LATER AFTER A RIGHT TURN, SAME THING. STOPPED & RESTARTED. ODBII (SCANGAUGE) GAVE C0037 "LEFT REAR WHEEL SENSOR" CODE AND THE DASH LIGHTS SHOWED: CHECK ENGINE, ABS, TIRE ROTATION AND TRACTION LIGHTS...AND THEY WOULDN'T GO OFF AFTER RESTARTING ENGINE. MB DEALER REPLACED LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. 9/2/2018: DID A LEFT TURN AND STARTED HAVING SAME PROBLEM. SAME DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. ODBII CODE WAS C003A ('RIGHT REAR WHEEL SENSOR'). I WAS ABLE TO NURSE THE UNIT HOME, BUT IT DID HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER LEFT TURNS A COUPLE OF TIMES. SAFETY ISSUE: IF YOU MAKE 90 DEGREE LEFT/RIGHT TURN (DEPENDING WHICH SENSOR WENT OUT), THE SPRINTER STARTS SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS RAPIDLY WITH GREAT NOISE. NO CHOICE BUT TO MANUALLY PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL. AT THAT POINT, UNTIL YOU STOP THE VEHICLE AND TURN OFF/ON THE ENGINE, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE AND YOU ARE STUCK COASTING TO STOP.
