2020 Mack Anthem (an)

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Mack MD, 2019-2025 Anthem, Granite, 2024 MD Electric, and 2025 Pinnacle trucks equipped with a passenger bench seat. The seat belt anchorage bracket may be improperly welded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Risk. An improperly welded seat belt anchorage bracket can detach during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will install a reinforcement plate, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 21, 2026. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0485. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning October 13, 2025.

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Anthem, Granite, TerraPro and Pinnacle vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Risk. Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 9, 2024. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0472.

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Anthem (AN), Granite (GR/GU), and Pinnacle (CHU/CXU/PI) vehicles equipped with "camelback" rear suspension and electronic stability control. The vehicles may not stay in their lane at certain speeds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 136, "Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles."

Risk. A vehicle that drifts out of its lane increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Mack will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the vehicle control units, free of charge. The recall began on April 21, 2021. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0423.

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2020 Anthem (AN), Granite (GR), and Pinnacle (PI) vehicles. The castle nuts and cotter pins used to connect the steering drag link to the pitman arm and steering arm may have not been correctly installed, potentially causing separation of the drag link.

Risk. If the drag link separates, loss of steering control my occur, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drag link attachment points, repairing them, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 14, 2020. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0420.

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2020 Anthem and Pinnacle trucks. The conspicuity reflectors at the back of the cab may be blocked by the exhaust system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment."

Risk. If the reflectors are blocked, the vehicle's visibility to other drivers may be reduced, increasing the risk of crash.

Remedy. Mack has notified owners, and dealers will install additional reflectors on the back of the cab, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0418.

Defect. Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Mack Anthem, Granite, Pinnacle vehicles. The passenger side door down view mirror may detach from the door.

Risk. If the mirror detaches from the door, the mirror may strike another vehicle or pedestrian, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Remedy. Mack will notify owners, and dealers will properly attach the mirror, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2019. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0416.

This vehicle was sold to me as a new truck by Mountain West Truck Center in Salt Lake City, UT, with Federal Excise Tax paid accordingly. Prior to sale, the truck had undergone structural frame repair at Tec Equipment, an authorized Mack/Volvo dealer and repair facility in Reno, Nevada. During that repair, Huck bolts — permanent, engineered structural fasteners used to secure the frame and axle assemblies to OEM specification — were removed and replaced with non-equivalent standard threaded bolts. Those substitute fasteners were not properly installed. This condition was not disclosed at the time of sale. Nature of the Safety Defect Huck bolts are permanent, high-clamp-load fasteners engineered for critical structural joints in heavy-duty commercial vehicles. They function through a swaging process — a permanent mechanical crimp creating an interference fit engineered to withstand heavy vibration and dynamic load. They are not interchangeable with standard threaded fasteners. When the failure manifested on Truck #35, the vehicle was unable to move and drive unless the axle lock was engaged. It exhibited clunking from the transmission and speedometer dropout — symptoms consistent with loss of driveline integrity. Teardown by Mountain West technicians revealed a broken left-side axle shaft and gear metal in the front differential fluid, indicating differential destruction caused by axle instability. While driving on the Interstate I apparently lost control and hit a guardrail at approx 40-45mph. The impact stopped the truck causing severe damage to the vehicle the front right 1/2 of the vehicle including bumper, quarter panel with enough impact to break the front axle. I was found unconsious and spent 6 days in the hospital. I have fractures in my back and believe that possibly the airbag should have deployed? The vehicle is available at this time for inspection. I have sent notification to the manufacturer. The day prior to this accident the check ECU light came on, however it did turn off later that day. I

LED MARKER LAMPS ARE IN A SEALED UNIT WHICH ARE NOT SERVICEABLE ROADSIDE, LEADING TO LOW VISIBILITY UNDER CERTAIN LIGHTING AND APPROACH CONDITIONS TO OTHER VEHICLES. ALSO CREATES VIOLATIONS WHILE ON THE ROAD UNDER SECTION 393 AS THE DRIVER AND/ OR ROAD SERVICE VENDOR CANNOT SERVICE A PART WITHOUT RETURNING TO A DEALER OR STOCKING SUPPLIER. THIS IS DANGEROUS BOTH IN TRAVELING AND STATIONARY POSITIONS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 MACK ANTHEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EACH TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE MOVED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THE WHEELS WOULD JUMP, AND THE HOOD ATTEMPTED TO OPEN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NEXTRAN TRUCK CENTERS (2200 W LANDSTREET RD, ORLANDO, FL 32809, (407) 855-1200) WHERE THE DRUM, BRAKE LINE, AND BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS WERE COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS TO THE SAME DEALER FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 12139296. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
