2011 Jeep Liberty

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2012 Jeep Liberty and 2012-2013 Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger vehicles. A component within the occupant restraint controller (ORC) may fail and prevent the active headrests from deploying in the event of a rear-end crash.

Risk. If the active headrests do not deploy in certain rear-end crashes, the front seat occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ORC as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 4, 2017. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is T56.

Defect. Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Sebring and 200 vehicles manufactured June 28, 2011, through December 13, 2012; model year 2011-2013 Dodge Avenger vehicles manufactured June 25, 2011, through January 14, 2013; model year 2011-2012 Dodge Nitro vehicles manufactured June 17, 2011, through December 15, 2011; and model year 2011-2012 Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured June 17, 2011, through August 15, 2012. Electrical over-stress of a resistor in the occupant restraint control module may lead to the non-deployment of the active head restraints during a rear impact collision.

Risk. In the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the active head restraints , their non-deployment could increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will flash the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) or replace the occupant restraint control module, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N38.

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011DODGE JOURNEY, JEEP WRANGLER, CHRYSLER 200, CHRYSLER 200 CONVERTIBLE, DODGE AVENGER, DODGE NITRO, JEEP LIBERTY, DODGE CALIBER, JEEP COMPASS, JEEP PATRIOT, DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A MISSING OR INCORRECTLY INSTALLED STEERING COLUMN PIVOT RIVET.

Risk. A MISSING OR INCORRECTLY INSTALLED RIVET COULD COMPROMISE THE ABILITY OF THE STEERING COLUMN TO SUPPORT THE OCCUPANT LOADS IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL CRASH, DECREASING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FRONTAL IMPACT SAFETY SYSTEM. AS A RESULT, THE CONDITION MAY INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY IN A FRONTAL CRASH.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR RIVET PRESENCE AND ALIGNMENT AND REPAIR THE STEERING COLUMN PIVOT AS REQUIRED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 4, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2011 AND BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY OR SOMETIMES STAYING ON DURING TRIP WHETHER A PASSENGER WAS IN THE SEAT OR NOT. HAD TO INSTALL A NEW MOTOR IN 2025 DUE TO ANTIFREEZE OVERFLOWING INTO ENGINE COMPONENTS APPARENTLY AFTER OVERHEATING EVEN THOUGH GAUGE ON DASH NEVER INDICATED ISSUE. SQUEEKING SOUND WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, CERT MECHANIC INSTALLED FRONT PADS AND ROTORS AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND LEFT REAR BRAKE CALIPER FOR A TOTAL COST OF $620. TRAVELED TO KC (APPX 100 MILES) ONE DAY LATER AND VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING ACCELERATION, STUTTERED AND SEEEMED TO SURGE INTERMITENTLY THEN REAR BRAKE BEGAN LOCKING UP AND SMOKING EXCESSIVELY BEFORE ILLUMINATING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. DRAGGIN/LOCKING REAR BRAKE BROKE LOOSE ON DRIVE BACK HOME BUT STILL HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK BACK TO MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED RAPID MISFIRE ON CYLINDER NO. 1 BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO TRACE CAUSE. RECOMMENDED TAKING TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC AT A COST OF $150 PER HOUR. ALL 3 ISSUES I AM REPORTING ARE APPARENTLY PERVASIVE WITH THIS VEHICLE AS i HAVE READ NUMEROUS DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS FROM CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUES. HOWEVER, NHTSA WEBSITE INDICATES THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH MY VEHICLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!

Always had Transmissions / power train problems with it until now my mechanic and his Transmissions specialist said that I need a new transmission. They and all other mechanics and people who owned these jeeps or known people who owned these jeeps said they have major Transmissions / power train problems that eventually require new Transmissions on short timings compared to all other vehicles.

Upon inspection, significant underbody rust

Everytime I get gas the full tank spits gas back at you which gets everywhere drips down the vehicle on to the ground. Very dangerous.

The airbag light came on and the computer indicated it's the clock spring. I know that this is a safety issue as I've had the same issue with a previous car in which it was recalled.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the horn was pressed; however, the horn failed to function as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.

I currently own two of the same year vehicles. They BOTH have the same problem with the ECM. I have also spoken with multiple people who own Jeep vehicles @ the same year. We all seem to have; lifter, Rod knocks, oxygen sensors and ECM that have caused multiple other problems (and severe accidents) due to their malfunctioning. I have had both of my vehicles to licensed mechanics, who have advised me of the same problem. One of the 2011 Jeep Libertys have been owned by me since brand new, the other was bought used. PLEASE PLEASE help us out!!! I have spent so much money trying to repair these vehicles!!! THE ECM & OXYGEN SENSOR need to be recalled!!!

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by a dealer. The contact was referred to the dealer. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 73,000.

The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Airbag light is on. Right front passenger door won’t lock or unlock automatically. Left front aux light inop. Not bulb related. Right front aux light goes off when right turn signal is activated.

The transmission doesn’t work properly. It has trouble getting into second gear, at times it doesn’t change to third gear or higher. On one occasion it briefly got stuck in overdrive

Faulty TIPM Several electronic issues including Electronic Throttle System. Vehicle doesn't respond due to faulty TIPM Sometimes starts very rough and stalls out

The driver side active head restraint system headrest deployed while at a stop light. The was no collision. The driver was knocked forward by the headrest in the head/neck resulting in injury. No warning lights or issues alerted to a problem or malfunction. There is no recall on this make/model. Mileage 77,000

My 2011 Jeep Liberty sport on 06-27-21, was sitting in a Super market parking lot while shopping. I returned from shopping and noticed my - Rear back door glass was completely blown out,exploded. Was it a break-in situation ? Or what caused this ? I called the police to make a report. The policeman said to contact insur. for replacement of blown out glass, and he filed his report. It is unknown my me,or policeman why this occurred. It, most definitely a Safety issue on 2011 Jeep Liberty Sport model

PURCHASED VEHICLE USED IN JANUARY 2020. FIVE DAYS LATER, THE FIRST DTC ILLUMINATED, AND IT HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE EVER SINCE. SO FAR I HAVE REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE, WATER PUMP, SERPENTINE BELT, RADIATOR, ALTERNATOR, PCV VALVE, TENSIONER ASSEMBLY, FRONT BRAKES, LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD, DOOR SEALS, SWAY BAR BUSHINGS/LINKS - ALL WITHIN THE FIRST 10,000 MILES. BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS SEIZED AND LOCKED, CAUSING BRAKES TO SMOKE AND OVERHEAT, DISCOVERED EXHAUST LEAK ONLY AFTER DEVELOPING SYMPTOMS OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. EVEN AFTER ALL OF THAT, THE VEHICLE STILL SOUNDS AWFUL AND HAS SERIOUS PERFORMANCE ISSUES. I FULLY EXPECT THAT THE ENGINE WILL BE TOAST ANY DAY, AND I STILL HAVE ALMOST THREE YEARS WORTH OF PAYMENTS LEFT ON IT.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HASN'T STOPPED GOING ON AND OFF IT MAKES THAT ANNOYING SOUND THE WHOLE TRIP EVERY TIME I DRIVE, THE HEAT WON'T CUT ON IT BLOWS COLD AIR I'VE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED ALLEGEDLY BUT IT STILL WON'T BLOW HOT AIR, THE CAR KEEPS STALLING AND IT HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME 3 TIMES WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ONCE ON A BUSY FREEWAY I WAS LUCKILY BY GRACE OF GOD ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE IT LOCKED I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I'M CURRENTLY PREGNANT THIS IS INSANE AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT OR HOW TO FIX ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS I GOT A LOAN FOR THIS CAR SO NOW I'M STUCK WITH THIS DEATH TRAP, AND NOW I'M SEEING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING I'M BAFFLED BY THE NEGLECT AND LACK OF CONCERN OR CARE FOR CUSTOMERS AND THERE FAMILIES WHO RIDE IN THEIR VEHICLES SAFETY, I WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE A NO BRAINER TO RECALL THE WHOLE CAR IF YOU CAN'T FIX THE SAFETY CONCERNS OR DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION, I NEED A CAR TO DRIVE I'M WASTING SO MUCH MONEY ON RENTALS BECAUSE I HAVE NO OPTIONS WITH THIS JEEP I NEED A SOLUTION THIS IS CRAZY I RELY ON MY VEHICLE FOR WORK AS I DO UBER EATS AND GRUB HUB I NEED HELP!!

MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND I WAS DRIVING ON A THREE LANE STREET WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH WHEN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM SUDDENLY SEIZED. THE BRAKES REMAINED ENGAGED AND THE ONLY WAY I COULD DRIVE MY CAR WAS TO PUT IT IN REVERSE, THEN NEUTRAL THEN DRIVE. MY ENTIRE DRIVE HOME I COULD HEAR THE BRAKES AND WHENEVER I HAD TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN THE BRAKES WOULD LOCK.

HI THE MAIN CONCERN AND PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR IS THE SKY SLIDER! MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE ALL AROUND. IT FAILED ME RIGHT AWAY! AFTER ON INCIDENT WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY THE SKY SLIDER JUST CAME OFF!!! IT ALMOST CAUSED MULTIPLY ACCIDENTS! YOU CAN'T EVEN FIND THE PARTS SINCE JEEP STOP MAKING KNOWING THAT THE MESSED UP !

THE TIPM IN MY JEEP IS MESSING UP AND CAUSING ENGINE STALLING, RADIO FAILURE, ETC. I HAVE A BLUE DRIVER THAT CONSTANTLY GIVES ME CODES RELATED TO THIS PART DEFECT. I'VE ALSO GOT AN AIRBAG LIGHT COMING ON ALL THE TIME AND YET MY VIN SHOWS NO RECALLS FOR THIS PART. IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT MY AIRBAG MIGHT POSSIBLE FAIL. MY ENGINE HAS ALMOST STALLED 3-4 TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED IT EITHER FROM A STOP LIGHT ACCELERATING OR CROSSING AT AN INTERSECTION THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
