The passenger headrest deployed because the pin plastic bracket has failed it released the headrest unexpectedly and can not be reset. Please advise this is dangerous!

The shifter system (monostable shifter/ electronic shift module) malfunctioned 4 times so far. It has been to the dealer 3 times and the following has been replaced: the electronic shift module, the shift head/knob, the electronic shift module again, and finally the wiring itself, and now 10 miles after picking up my car that was being serviced since Monday (it is Friday now), I have the same issue and it makes my car stuck in first or second gear, I cannot shift into park or out of drive unless I shut the engine off, it puts my car into limp mode and won't let me accelerate or else the car jerks, my infotainment screen intermittently shuts off, and I get the following warning lights and messages: Check engine light, Braking system light, TPMS light, traction control light, "Service Electronic Braking System" message, "Service Shifter" message with OBD code U1467, "Service Power Steering" message, "Service Transmission- Continue in D. Do not shift or turn engine off" message. The PRND lights on the shift knob also flash. This is very dangerous as my car cannot be shifted out of drive (into park), the car won't accelerate or move above whatever speed 1st gear or 2nd gear will allow me to, the car physically jerks forward, and whatever systems like power steering, braking, etc. that may be affected based on the warning lights. I only get the diagnostic code U1467 which is for the shifter, though.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while moving off from a stop sign, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into neutral and the vehicle stopped independently. The gear shifter showed neutral on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM NHTSA SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A DIESEL EGR COOLER SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMER RECIEVED NOTICE OF THE RECALL IN NOVEMBER OF 2020. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THE PARTS WERE READY BUT, DID NOT MAKE ANY FURTHER CONTACT WITH THE CONSUMER.
On multiple occasions, after steady driving for approximately 1 hour the vehicle will suddenly begin decelerating. This has happened while driving in the highway. Once the car is stopped and turned off for approximately 10 minutes, the car will drive normally and accelerate to normal speeds.
Cracked plastic pinched section of the seat belt at the D-rings and prevented the seat belts from retracting and locking in a sudden stop.
Vehicle lost braking ability intermittently. Had to drive off the road to stop the vehicle without hitting something. Brake light came on the dash but then went off and brakes worked as normal. This has happened several times now. All randomly.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 60 MPH, an unknown warning message indicating that the vehicle would not start the next time she would attempt to start it illuminated. The incorrect DEF fluid warning light illuminated. The contact continued to drive to her residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the PCM software was reprogrammed. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred 7 months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the PCM software was again reprogrammed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 13 more times and the dealer reprogrammed the PCM software; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the PCM software had forced the engine to shut off due to the diesel exhaust fluid system failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,665.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee automatic headrest deployed. My wife was driving as normal and she was hit over the head by the headrest. It was deployed under normal driving conditions. There was no accident. This is very dangerous because of the sudden surprise. She could have been killed!!!!!
I took my vehicle to get an oil change at a non-Jeep dealership, that I purchased the vehicle from and was told that I had an oil leak and that I would have to take it to a Jeep dealership in order to have it fixed. When I called the Jeep dealership and explained what the previous dealership told me, they said that this is a known issue with Jeep and that they have recently fixed this issue on several Jeeps within the last month. After checking on this site to see if there was a recall in place, due to the costly repair, there was none. How could there be so many complaints on the same year, make and model Jeep, for the same issue, and yet no recall? This is definitely a manufacture defect! They clearly put a plastic part on this vehicle knowing darn well that it will eventually warp due to hot oil being transported through it. $900 is a lot of money!!
I just bought my car from a local dealership about 3-4 weeks ago. Upon receiving it I found no issues. A couple days later, every time I would go to push start my car, it would lag and take about 5-10 seconds to actually turn over and start. It doesn't do it every single time but about every other time. It has been in and out of my local Jeep dealership since I have received it and they cannot figure out the issue what's so ever. If we cannot get it figured out soon, I will be returning the car!
The leather on the dashboard is de-laminating from the dash and pulling the grilles from their original positions.
Blind spot mogul not working . Not knowing if anything or person is on either side or behind the suv.The component has been inspected by the dealer. Warning light can on.
I went to the dealer and told them about my seat belt, they said I need a new retractor. So after doing my research on YouTube I see numerous people with this vehicle body style have the same problem, people suggested it wasn’t the retractor but the plastic peace that the belt is in between on the pillar of the car is for some reason squeezing it, so I used a knife to see if I move it up will it work? And yes it did the problem was that and possibly the retractor but not as I can tell. This issue is happening too much for it to be just a oops. It is a safety concern for me and my passengers god forbid an accident with anyone with this issue. It is unethical as well for the dealer to charge an outstanding $1,200.00 not everyone has the funds to fix something that is so priceless such as safety. I’m sending this letter on behalf of all the people that live with this issue.
Oil cooler filler housing is plastic and it warps and oil is leaking on top of hot engine, running down engine side onto hot exhaust pipe. Oil travels along underneath chassis. FIRE HAZARD! Prior part was not made of plastic. 61,000 miles on Jeep
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the transmission failed to shift into PARK. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer nor repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V240000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee currently has 27,000 miles on it and until 2021 was never driven in the winter. (I previously spent the winters in Florida; this car was not involved in driving to and from Florida.) I am retired. Due to my retirement status and COVID restrictions since 2020, my driving has been limited to about 3,000 miles per year. Without any prior warning, the oil filter-cooler housing adaptor assembly failed, causing oil to leak out of the engine through the o-rings and onto the transmission housing. This created a mess under the car anywhere it was parked. It creates a hazardous condition because the leaked oil can cause people to slip and fall wherever it lays on the ground, and if the driver is on the road and the engine loses enough oil and oil pressure, it can result in extensive damage to the engine, maybe an accident. I have checked your database, and see that this problem has not been part of any recall. However, I've also done some online searching and discovered that mine is not an isolated problem. https://www.carproblemzoo.com/jeep/grandcherokee/2014/engine-oil-leaking-problems.php The problem was identified by my mechanic at Empire Automotive of WNY 716-681-7187, and repaired at their shop on Feb. 23, 2022. They did show us the part that failed. I do not know if they still have the old part, but they can explain the problem in detail because they told us they had done two other repairs for the same problem on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees during the p
While traveling with 2 small children on the highway a very strong burning smell starting coming through the ventilation system along with a small amount of smoke. Immediately exited the highway and left the vehicle overnight. Upon returning to the vehicle the next day, a large amount of liquid (oil) was leaked out under the vehicle as well as oil all over the components underneath the vehicle. Took vehicle to nearest mechanic and without even inspecting it, the mechanic (non dealership) stated it was likely the oil filter housing as he had replaced a # of these in recent memory due to the plastic melting and/or cracking. The mechanic confirmed the next day that this was in deed the issue and the oil filter housing had to be replaced due to mine being cracked. There appears to be thousands of these cases reported to nhtsa, yet the manufacturer is yet to recall this, which is a significant safety hazzard. Allowing a manufacturer to use a piece of plastic that is known to fail, to store and/or transfer a highly flammable liquid such as oil is a tragedy in the making. Oil leaking onto the engine and other components of the vehicle can cause a fire without the vehicle occupants knowing anything about it. If the manufacturer is unwilling to proactively recall this flawed part, then the nhtsa needs to step in and force a recall before a vehicle catches fire and there is a loss of life.
Service shifter Transfer case Radio malfunction Gear Shifter Shifter got stuck in park i had to forcefully pull the shifter to get it to go into drive. Monday Feb 14, 2022 approximately around 9:00pm I drove my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the gas station. I pull up at the gas pumps and pit the shifter to park, I exit the vechile and lock the doors, go inside the store to pay for my purchase and as im walking out I look and my jeep was gone. So I look around and I see it across the highway in a ditch. So I take off Running to my vechile and get in the vechile to try and reverse it but its automactilly goes right back into park. So I get out and look at the damage because there is a guard rail cables. My car has front end damage because it was stuck under the cables. Made a police report. I called the dealership where I am leasing the vechile from and they do not wanna help me. I've had nothing put problems with this vechile since I got it. This really needs to be looked into. What if my babies were in the car. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic at that time. Becauae its a busy highway. I also have video footage of the incident from that night.
[XXX] 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Sitting in the passenger side seat of the jeep stopped and went to remove the seat belt it would not retract. Attempted to pull it out a little further to get it to retract and it would not retract. Being a nurse I know how dangerous this is. I have contacted me dealer to get an apt to get it in as soon as possible to get it fixed. The passenger side seat belt will not retract this is a safety hazard. I see there have been several complaints on this model for this same safety hazard. Reporting as this is very dangerous. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
We noticed two large oil spots on our driveway two days before a scheduled oil service and asked our service person to inspect our vehicle during our oil change. The service manager stated that they diagnosed an oil cooler housing defect which would cost $1,030.00. My daughter drives this vehicle and, out of concern for her being stranded on the road, I specifically inquired as to whether this issue was something that could result in a catastrophic failure, to which he responded “It could very well happen.” Unsolicited, he recommended that we retain the service receipt because (in his words) “I expect to see a recall on this issue because we have seen this SO many times on this engine. In fact, the dealer often runs out of this part and we have to wait to initiate the repair.” He then informed us that we were lucky this time because he was able to get the last replacement part in stock for this issue from the dealer. I also asked that he return to me the part they removed, which he did, and I have it in my possession if you might need it for inspection. Thank you.
The pillar loop of the seatbelt cracked on the driver's seat belt. The piece that guides the seatbelt in the pillar loop cracked, and as a result it now pinches the seatbelt and prevents the seatbelt from retracting. It is pinched so tightly that I can't even manually "retract" it by pushing the seatbelt back into the door/wall, and instead my seatbelt hangs loosely in the seat around me. Since the seatbelt hangs loosely around the seat and can't even be manually retracted, I may as well not have access to a seatbelt which is a very dangerous situation. If I were to crash, the seatbelt would be completely ineffective. No event occurred to cause the crack. There were no warning signs, lights, or indications that something was wrong until one day I got in the car and it would just no longer retract. The first appearance of the issue was around January 27, 2022. It was very cold the week it happened so I am unsure if the cold temperature had anything to do with the crack, however a seat belt should not break because of cold weather. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and to date the issue has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center since it is very obviously an issue. Additionally, it has not been inspected yet as the quoted prices for fixing it are extremely high even though it appears to be a malfunction of the specific piece of safety equipment, as exhibited by the abundance of identical complaints specifically for my make and model (2014 Jeep Grand
The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to the recall was unavailable. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer and was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated on 1/26/2022 after turning on the ignition, the electronic throttle control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure and was not able to schedule an appointment till April/2022. The contact called another local dealer: Calavan CDJR West (1251 Thornton Rd, Lithia Springs, GA 30122:(770) 942-1102), and was able to make an appointment for 1/31/2022 to diagnose the failure and complete recall associated with the VIN. The contact stated on her way to her appointment while driving 65 mph when depressed the accelerator pedal but failed to go over 60 mph. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and called the local dealer Calavan CDJR West to seek towing service. The dealer was informed to call any towing company to have the vehicle towed. The contact stated while calling a towing company, she saw smoke exiting the front of the hood. The contact was able to exit the vehicle safely before the vehicle was engulfed in fire. The contact stated no one was injured nor sought medical attention. The fire department
I was driving pulling a light trailer for less than 15 miles and vehicle suddenly and catastrophically overheated. Had vehicle towed to dealership and they identified the root cause as a failed oil cooler. There were no symptoms prior to this failure. Doing preliminary searches for similar issues, there is a very high rate of failures of these oil coolers in both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and RAM 1500 ecoDiesel engines.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the oil cooler replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact had spoken to a local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The oil cooler in this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is located at the top of the engine. When the oil cooler failed, oil leaked onto the hot engine. This situation created a fire hazard. The vehicle was repaired by a local garage.
The driver side seat belt is not retracting/faulty. It will not securely hold the driver if a collision occurs. This Jeep has blown fuel back out of the tank to saturate and shut down a gas station. The Attorney General in Vermont got involved in my case. The fuel system had to be replaced. Next the passenger side seat belt secured my passenger into the seat so tightly I had to pull the vehicle over. The seat belt would not release. The passenger side belt was replaced with a big fight over who was responsible for the bill. Now the driver side seat belt is faulty. I am disappointed after reading reviews of so many consumers having the same issue. What gives? are you going to wait to recall until someone dies in an accident?
When shifting into park, the shifter is not moving into park without pushing the shifter several times up to get it into park. Also when slowing down to come to a stop the transmission is jarring into lesser gears cause the jeep to jerk, causing whiplash and making loud sound hard to describe. It’s not doing it all the time but when it does it’s like you have been rear ended.
I took my Grand Cherokee to the mechanic for a sudden oil leak. The aluminum oil filter housing on my jeep had cracked, covering the lower half of the engine, transmission, frame, axles, brakes, and tires with oil. The mechanic said with with amount of oil covering everything, it could have caught on fire if we had warm, dry weather conditions. He said the aluminum it is made from easily cracks when we have freezing temperatures. My car didn't move for 5 very cold days, and on Sunday, while I'm taking my child to the hospital, we have this blowout. $926 later, I'm not spraying oil everywhere.
Mechanic reported back to me a small crack in the plastic adaptor housing plate for the oil filter. Said crack is leaking a small amount of oil and "could" result in a safety issue-possible fire hazard. Said problem can be repaired with a new metal component at a cost in excess of $650. It is my understanding there have been in excess of 37,000 plastic components which have cracks and Jeep has not issued a recall. I've been trying to get Chrysler/Jeep to recognize this is a design-manufacturing /engineering problem that Jeep should be held accountable for and not the consumer. This problem falls squarely on Chrysler -Jeep yet they want the consumer to pay $650++++ when they have switched over "now" to a metal component to address the issue
I was in a collision that impacted mostly the driver side of the vehicle and the front air bag did not deploy, only the side curtains.
Over the course of several years' use, the OEM HID headlights lenses have been burnt by the OEM headlights which has incrementally diminished the headlight effectiveness. There is a frost like haze that has been burnt into the interior of the lens. This should be covered by the manufacturer given that the headlight cover lenses used on the headlight assembly were not adequate. I have experienced this diminishing visibility over the last several years, but it has reached a point now that it is a safety concern while driving at night.
Both front seat belts (driver and passenger) failed within a few days of each other in mid September, 2021. They do not retract and consequently, the pretensioner does not function. I have made enquires that reveal that it is a known problem, and that NHTSA have previously investigated (NHTSA Action Number: PE19011), but that the file has been closed after the 'preliminary evaluation' and the agreement by FCA US LLC to extend the warranty on the driver and passenger from seat belt assemblies. After having to wait several weeks for an appointment with the dealer, even after explaining the fault and that it was a safety issue, we had the seat belts inspected by a Jeep dealer on 09/30/21 who confirmed the failure. We had previously received a notice from FCA US LLC in relation to the potential issue and that they were extending the warranty to 15 years/unlimited miles. My concern is that the issue has still not been resolved. The parts have not been replaced and we are told that they are on back order with no firm date for the parts to be in and installed, rectifying this serious safety issue. It is coming up on 4 months. It is our primary family vehicle, and the only vehicle we own that can be driven on winter roads. Our other vehicles are 3 season vehicles. I have been in constant contact with the dealer and FCA LLC customer care. Their customer care is window dressing. They continue to give excuses, deflect, the dealer blames FCA LLC and FCA LLC blames the dealer for the defe
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idled in a parking lot, the alternator overheated and there was smoke coming from under the hood while the engine was revving. The vehicle shutoff, and the contact could not restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The mechanic replaced the alternator, battery, serpentine belt, and cabin air filter. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer per the manufacturer's request. The dealer performed an inspection and informed the contact that all the repairs performed by the independent mechanic were per the dealer's specifications. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and three cases were opened. The manufacturer informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and submit all necessary documents and receipts for reimbursement. The manufacturer later denied the contact's request for reimbursement due to the vehicle being out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED A REIMBURSMENT FOR A PORTION OF THE TOWING AND REPAIR COSTS. THE CONSUMER RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE OFFER.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the crankshaft needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
The headrest spontaneously popped open and hit me hard in the back of the head while I was driving yesterday. This was dangerous for a number of reason, primary because it could have caused an accident but also the headrest hit me so hard that it seams as if i have a mild concussion. Last night i had a sever headache and neck strain and today I went home early from work for the same reason. It seems as if the problem has occurred to several others as well but no attempt has been made to inform drivers of this dangerous defect. The vehicle has not been inspected but I plan on taking it into my local jeep dealership. No warning was seen prior to the problem.
Wont start, with good battery
Vehicle randomly stalls and fails to restart or will not crank/start at random times
I have a 2014 SRT jeep I was at the car wash and my passenger head rest system deployed I look inside and saw that the clips were broken.
PASSENGER HEAD RESTRAINT HEADREST DEPLOYS WITHOUT COLLISION. WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT, (POPPED OPEN AND FORWARD). DEALERSHIP FOUND NO FAULTS
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a ticking noise coming from the engine compartment, started well before this failure. Recently while driving the engine started to sputter and the vehicle would not accelerate above 25 MPH with a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic indicated that the engine needed to be disassembled to further diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was operated by diesel fuel. The contact stated while merging onto the highway the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to increase to 75 MPH. The contact stated that the ECS warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he was able to continue to drive to the residence. The contact reviewed his service record and found out that his spouse had taken the vehicle to the dealer prior for the same failure. The paperwork stated they were unable to duplicate the failure. No repairs were completed. The contact stated that he was awaiting an appointment with the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
Tuesday November 18 2021 during driving on freeway around 3 PM,dashboard suddenly turned off,all information on cluster disappeared and vehicle seems to stalled for a few seconds, after everything came back to normal. It repeated three times in next 10 minutes of driving.Next day November 19 2021 vehicle stalled during driving on parking lot. There is no check engine light or any other messages on dashboard. Tried to start it with no luck.Starter is spinning, but engine is not firing.Vehicle has new batterie. Last month I finally got vehicle from local Chrysler authorized dealer repair shop Vehicle been there for repair work since July 8 2021 for exact same problem. Vehicle stalled on highway at speed 35 mph,and after been towed for repair to Motorworld Dodge Chrysler in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. After 2.5 month of repair, I was told( and it shown in paper work),that vehicle had all fuel pumps replaced, new fuel lines, new fuel rails, new jets, filters etc.been installed. After repair I did not even make 1000 miles.I would like to investigate this situation, because it has safety issues Tried to talk about it with service manager at dealership but looks like they are not interested to do it,and don't really want to take responsibility for performed work.
While driving on the freeway at normal speed limit the vehicle has on 2 separate occasions gone into neutral without the driver touching anything. we have taken the vehicle in twice to dealership who have tried to replicate the symptom. They have kept and driven car on multiple occasions with no success . They tell us they cannot fix the problem without a code if they cannot find it. i have called jeep customer service multiple times and they filed a case number but refuse to get back to me when i leave messages. Jeep Cherokee model 2014 had 81000 recalls for a transmission software issue but not the Grand Cherokee model. This vehicle is clearly very dangerous to drive and my son who was driving nearly had a very serious accident when this happened. What am i to do. i cannot let anyone drive this vehicle . Jeep are not interested in helping the dealership get to the bottom of this issue. i cannot sell the vehicle knowing there is a critical issue with the safety of the vehicle and if someone buys it and gets hurt or killed i probably have a liability. The dealership keeps trying to find it but it may not happen again for weeks or months, like looking for a needle in a haystack. case number with Jeep is 81105546 Please help i am at a loss what to do. We have not used the vehicle since the last incident
Deployed head rest while vehicle was in parked and engine was off.
My vehicle has the very well known problem for delamination of the dashboard. My airbag light has flickered on the dash a few times and dealership says that this is a big safety concern. It looks like it may be putting tension on the passenger side airbag creating risk of early deployment or failure to deploy in an accident. It already cracked my defroster vent.
While driving my vehicle on an interstate, I felt something hit the back of my head against my hairclip. Once stopped at a light, I tried to adjust my power seat thinking that it had somehow readjusted itself (I have been waiting over 6 months for a new PCM and lots of little power gremlins have shown up with the engine and other systems). When that did not help the issue, I reached to my headrest to see if I could adjust it when I realized that it had popped open. There was no incident/accident to cause this.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver’s side headlight had become defective while in operation. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he had both headlights replaced. After the repair, the new headlights were not adjusted to the proper calibration and the headlight would only illuminate on the side of each headlight and not forward as needed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on numerous occasions and was informed that the new headlights could only illuminate vertically and not horizontally as needed. The contact then called Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Riverdale (1481 W Riverdale Rd, Riverdale, UT 84405) to schedule an appointment to attempt to correct the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
The driver's side headrest exploded forward when no one was in it. 10/12/21 the Jeep was taken to the Buffalo airport. Early Afternoon, 10/13/21 it was picked up. When the car was picked up, it was found with the headrest exploded. After close inspection of the car, no damage was found to indicate a collision had happened. The safety of others is an issue because it inhibits the driver from properly seeing the road after it exploded. The problem is being solved by our own mechanic. No inspection has been made by any authorities or insurance reps. No warning lights, messages or symptoms were observed before the headrest exploded. You can see pictures attached.
A complete loss of all electrical and engine power simultaneously, on the freeway during a rainstorm without any warning. All systems including power steering, tail lights, door locks, a completely dark instrument panel, engine stopped running. I feared for my life, it’s very scary, it happened with no warning on a freeway during a rain storm!
My Passenger side headrest broke while sitting in the jeep. No one even touched it. Air bag did not deploy yet.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
