Service 4WD light came on and stays on. Odometer flashes continuously. No 4 wheel drive functions operate. Dealer scanned for codes. Determined the transfer case control module was defective. Replacement did not fix the problem ($600.00). Then the fix was new tires because the front tires were worn more than the rear ($ 1000.00). That did not fix the problem either. Now we wait for the recall to materialize. The recall came out a year ago ( JAN 2025). Still no parts or fixes available for this problem.

To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited due to ongoing defects that create unsafe driving conditions. Vehicle Information: •Year/Make/Model: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited •189,000 Safety Issues: My vehicle has experienced repeated and unpredictable failures, including: •Loss of power while driving •Electrical instability and voltage fluctuations •Auto Stop/Start system malfunction •Hard and delayed transmission shifting •“Service Shifter” warnings and parking brake alerts (P with exclamation point) •Intermittent stalling and hesitation These issues occur without warning and significantly impair the vehicle’s ability to accelerate, shift, and operate safely in traffic. Recall Concern: I am aware that 2018–2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles were recalled for transmission, powertrain, and electrical defects, including conditions that can cause loss of propulsion and unsafe shifting. My vehicle exhibits the same symptoms described in those recalls; however, my VIN has not been included. Repair History: I have contacted the dealership multiple times. The primary response has been battery replacement, which did not resolve the issues. No permanent repair or root cause has been identified. Safety Risk: Loss of power, transmission malfunction, and electrical instability while driving present a serious safety risk and increase the likelihood of a collision. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this complaint and investigate whether

I was driving down the interstate in the mountainous region of Montana. While coming down the hill, I lost all power in my vehicle. My car continued to slow down, unable to accelerate. I had multiple warnings/things flash across my screen that identified that I no longer had access to them. After about 30 minute or more of driving slower and slower, able to initially go 30 mph, then it continued to decrease. I was maybe to go 10 mph up a hill to try to get to the next town. I inched my way to the dealership to drop my car off. I know there is a recall on my vehicle for something related to power however in the past year, every time I take it to dealer, they say there is nothing available to fix it. I now have no vehicle and I could have easily been hit from behind during the time where I continued to lose power in the vehicle. It was a terrifying feeling to know I could be stranded on a mountain road with no cell service, etc. If there is something wrong with a vehicle because of manufacture errors, then they need to do something ASAP or provide me a new car immediately for my safety and well being. If the whole 2019 model of Jeep is an issue, then provide me a new vehicle. This is not the first issue I had with this car. Early on after purchasing it, my dash lights would all disappear while driving down the road. No speedometer, nothing. The area where the radio and other communication is at, got so hot that one could not even touch it. They did eventually replace whatever c

In July of 2025 the srv 4x4 warning light came on a clanking sound began happening while driving. Eventually my jeep would begin shifting gears really hard. My local jeep dealer service dept. diagnosed that the PTU was failing. There was a recall in the recent months but my VIN was not on the recall list. They offered a good faith repair estimate of $2,500 plus tax to fix it and ordered the parts which were on a long backorder. Its now January 2026 and the parts are still not in yet. I should not have to pay $2,800 for a part that has been recalled on the same vehicle, make and model in recent months and I can't even have it repaired in a reasonable time. Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk made the warning code "service 4 wheel drive" and shortly after when parked at a gas station shifted itself into 4 LOW. I figured it out after starting to drive and we limped home which was a few miles away. We called the dealership and were told to bring it in for diagnostic. While parked on the inclined driveway the Jeep shifted itself into N and luckily I was able to press the brake (Non-ABS or hydraulic assistance due to the engine being off) stop it from rolling through the sidewalk into the street. I was able to get the Jeep into 2H to drive the 5 miles to dealership where they said they would do a diagnostic. 2 days later they texted us to say the transfer case was at fault and that would cost us $3825 up front and then we could submit a claim to Mopar to be reimbursed. I don't believe the original PTU (Transfer case) is available for inspection but you could ask the dealership. It's obvious our safety along with neighbors, pedestrians, and people driving down the street were put at risk, and had we known how serious the issue was, I would have asked for it to be towed to the dealership instead of driving it. The problem was confirmed by the dealer to be under recall. I don't know if anyone besides the dealership has inspected our failed PTU. We had very little warning to the problem. I believe the first time we saw the warning light was the same day the vehicle began having mechanical failures.

Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. It is available for inspection upon request. Visible PTU fluid leaking under the vehicle. Loss of 4WD. Service 4WD warning on dashboard began on Monday, January 5, 2026. Vibrations and grinding noises while driving. Burning oil smell in the cabin. Change in driving, such as delayed engagement and jerking during acceleration. Loss of power. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk at least twice when I experienced Loss of Power while driving. The vehicle unexpectedly shut off and all power was loss while in drive on two separate occasions in late 2025. PTU fluid leak is also a risk to my safety due to its potential for vehicle overheating, fire hazard, loss of 4WD, and/or catastrophic failure. The vehicle was taken to the service department of Ourisman Dodge Jeep Ram of Alexandria, VA on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The vehicle was inspected and PTU failure was confirmed by the dealership service department representative, Dennis Orellana.

My 2019 Jeep was serviced for a 4x4 system warning light on the dashboard. At the dealership they explained my vehicle is experiencing an issue with the Transfer Case, power transfer unit. After this recommendation, I took this vehicle to another reputable mechanic who found the same issue, but then advised me this vehicle has a recall for this (PTU) power transfer unit issue. Upon reviewing the vin with another dealer they state no recall has been issued for this vehicle. I was told some of these vehicles may have been built with an improperly seated input shaft snap ring in the two speed power transfer unit. Furthermore, the input shaft snap ring that is not fully seated may allow uncontrolled movement of the input shaft inward. Uncontrolled movement leads to the potential for wear to the range shift sleeve, spline damage, and/or range fork damage which can cause an unexpected loss of motive power or loss of PARK function. A loss motive power can cause this vehicle to crash without warning. A loss of park function can cause this vehicle crash without warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle. Like stated above, the Service 4WD message appears on the dash, with noise and vibration and changing in driving quality. Please review this and assess my vehicle for this recall, that should be associated to my VIN, Thank you

Safety issue involving loss of power and braking Prior to receiving a PTU recall notice in January 2025, my vehicle began experiencing sudden and unexpected loss of power while driving, particularly when braking. Since that time, the issue has worsened significantly and now occurs more frequently. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has failed to accelerate properly after braking, creating dangerous situations in traffic. In at least one incident, there was a loss of braking power that nearly caused me to run a red light. Several of these incidents were near-accidents and occurred without warning. I have brought the vehicle to my local Jeep dealership three separate times and fully explained the loss of power and braking concerns. Each time, I was told that all issues are “directly related to the PTU recall,” that there is currently “no solution,” and that “nothing can be done.” The vehicle was returned to me without repairs despite the safety risk. The dealership has acknowledged the issue but has not provided a fix, alternative transportation, or assurance that the vehicle is safe to operate. With a longer commute and the problem occurring more often, I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle and believe an accident outside of my control is inevitable if this continues. This defect presents a serious safety hazard involving loss of acceleration and braking while driving.

My vehicle suddenly loss power and started decelerating while i was driving on the freeway on october 11th of 2025 . upon taking my vehicle to a mechanic i was told the TPU was the issue . i remembered this was an issue that had been recalled . i called the manufacturer and dealership . both told me that there was nothing they could do , i could not have my car fixed til there was a resolution and they could not provide me with a loaner vehicle . they told me my only option was to fix the car myself and have the money refunded to me after i show proof . the mechanic quotes me $2,000 to fix my vehicle . i do not have that amount to fix something that should’ve have BEEN fixed because the recall has been out for a whole year now . so for 3 months i have been without my vehicle up and running . i have gotten my payments pushed back on my jeep but now they have started again and i refuse to pay for something that i can’t drive ! especially after i could’ve died on the freeway

Started financing this vehicle 11/8/25- driving on the interstate on 11/27/25 I started hearing thumping noises coming from my vehicle, I thought it was the road so I turned my radio and everything off and listened and it continued so I pulled over. I put the vehicle in park, walked around my vehicle to check for flat tires and to see if I possibly ran over something and there was nothing. I put it in reverse and it pulled itself back a little.. I put it back in park and checked around the vehicle again. I got back in the vehicle and put it back in drive and it wouldn't budge. I sat on the side of the road for over 6 hrs, 2 hrs away from home. My dealership didn't put in any of my information or transfer for the vehicle at the time it was suppose to be put in at signing and so I was out almost $600 in tow charges back to the dealership because my warranty hadn't went into effect. I've had 4 loaner vehicles threw this dealership which in return has caused me to lose my job because of other defects wrong with those vehicles as well. The mechanic at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle looked at it and told me that the rear differential had went out. And that the warranty company denied my claim. The dealership messaged me on 1/5/26 to come get my vehicle, that it had been fixed and was ready to go. Vehicle has been having driving issues such as noises and loss of power while driving. Recall for power control module, have been told they can’t give a loaner and they don’t have parts since the recall was issued (01/16/2025) was in the shop while that recall was going on (8 months actually because they couldn’t get parts) because it caused my differentials to lock up, they replaced them but vehicle has still had problems since then and was told there was nothing to be done. Warning signals come on and off when vehicle loses power, all dashboard lights cut on and off and it makes noise when shifting gears or accelerating. I have been terrified to drive it for months because it has just been getting worse and I am currently pregnant and don’t want to put my child at risk if it were to cause a wreck because I was told it could go out at anytime.

SVC 4WD warning indicator light appeared in dash cluster. Vehicle has been taken to two certified Jeep service dealerships. Both have confirmed the issue is with the Power Transfer Unit and that it will need to be replaced. Jeep does not have a replacement PTU for this widely known issue. A recall has been issued for this very problem, but our vehicle and many others from 2019 are not included in the recall. Same issue, same model, same year, but no recall and no part available for repair. Both dealerships have stated that the vehicle should not be driven due to safety concerns for loss of power if the PTU should completely fail. 6 months have passed with no indication of any effort from Stellantis to even repair the recalled vehicles, let alone the same vehicles with the same problem that are not included in the recall. A report was filed with Stellantis.

There was a 4x4 warning light in Dec 2024. The dealership checked and provided a quote for a new PTU, but said we could keep driving until repair, just not to use 4x4. Then we received a recall notice for the PTU from Jeep. Have been trying to get it fixed since. The dealership says there are no parts and no remedy for the recall. The Jeep Recall team says to take it to the dealership to get it fix, pay out of pocket then get reimbursed. The Jeep Recall team does not understand there are no parts available. Twice the recall team has closed the recall case number without following up if the repair was complete. This was my wife's vehicule. In Jan and Feb of 2025 we started to have loss of power while driving in traffic, so it has been sitting idle since. I had a DMV non op on it for time, but reactivated. I was told by Jeep there would be a solution in the fourth quarter of 2025, but that has come and gone. I had to buy a new vehicule for my wife. The Jeep just sits. I tried different lawyers for possible legal action, but they wont take the case, unless the vehicule has been at the dealership waiting to be repair or has been attempted to be repair three times. It has been a long wait for nothing so far.

The PTU caused the vehicle to have random grinding sounds from the drive train. There was a service 4wd engine light immediately. Took to the dealer 5/5/25 and was told about the recall of the PTU but no fix was available. I was told to keep driving and the vehicle around late December completely lost all forward gears on the highway. I was luckily able to coast to the shoulder and had it towed back to the dealer. Very lucky to not happen crossing traffic. The check engine light was also on at this point. The dealer informed me that it was in need of a new PTU and that there was still no fix for this problem. This is almost 1 year from the recall being issued. Unacceptable by any standards. Thank you

What happened : The vehicle experienced a sudden electrical failure and loss of normal shutdown control. The vehicle would not start or turn over. After repeated attempts, it eventually started, at which point all dashboard lights began flashing uncontrollably. The engine continued running even after the ignition was turned off and the key was removed. The only way to shut the vehicle down was to disconnect the battery. This created a safety concern due to the inability to control the vehicle’s electrical systems or safely shut off the engine. The failure occurred without prior warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership for inspection. Diagnostics confirmed a failure of the Body Control Module (BCM). The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) was also found to be non-functional and may have been affected by the BCM failure. The vehicle remains inoperable and is awaiting replacement of the BCM, which is currently on backorder with no estimated availability. The failed components are available for inspection upon request. The issue has been confirmed by the dealership. No crash occurred, but the malfunction posed a potential safety risk due to uncontrolled electrical behavior and inability to shut down the vehicle normally.

We have been advised by a Jeep Dealer that this vehicle's PTU is failing and needs to be replaced immediately before the car can be driven again. There is a current recall on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees with the same issue, "Loss of Drive Power from Damaged PTU", but our Jeep is not covered under this recall although it exhibits the same symptoms and is diagnosed with a failed/damaged PTU that needs to be replace. From everything that was reviewed and reviewing the recall it is the same problem that is reflected in the recalls that Jeep made on other 2019 Jeep Cherokees. We have been quoted by the dealership that this is a $3000 fix and when we contact Chrsyler/Jeep, FCA Stellantis customer service, they are not willing to assist with getting this fixed on the vehicle. We began having pops and vibrations as early as 2023 predominantly during an acceleration following a turn. On 10/19/2024, mileage 98,975, I requested maintenance as “developed slack in the drive train. When slowing down it bumps, when accelerating, mostly from a stop, it bangs and slips when shifting”, however despite having a tech drive with me only the hesitation was noticed. The vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic failure of the powertrain/engine system. Based on dealer inspection, the failure requires complete replacement of the engine long block assembly, indicating an internal engine failure rather than a minor or maintenance-related issue. The vehicle and failed components are available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were placed at significant risk. The vehicle first shut off completely while I was proceeding through a four-way stop intersection, forcing me to restart the vehicle while stopped in the middle of the intersection. Later, while driving on a very busy highway, the vehicle again lost power and became completely inoperable. I was barely able to maneuver the vehicle onto the shoulder, narrowly avoiding a collision. The vehicle then would not fully shut off despite multiple attempts, further indicating a serious malfunction. The problem has been confirmed by an authorized dealer, Krebs Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM in Gibsonia, PA. After diagnostics, the dealer issued a repair estimate calling for full engine long block replacement with an estimated total cost of approximately $13,900, confirming the severity of the failure. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Jeep dealership listed above. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure it's the ptu . I was driving up a hilly road and my jeep had no power all of a sudden. Then the service 4wheel drive light came on in the cluster,/ dash. Then when I stopped the tires would not quit spinning. But I could tell only one at a time was rolling. But it would switch to a different tire .each time it switched it would almost catapult me of to the side or towards the middle of the road..I finally just shut the engine off . Because it seemed as though it had a mind of its own ...thank God the plow truck came up this road I was on . Because I was afraid to start it again due to the fact I did not want to go off in a trench . I had no traction when the wheels kept kicking in and out of 4 wheel drive . That to me is a big safety concern. I took it to a mechanic shop the following day and he put a scan tool on it and it came back, ptu .and he told me that this year model has a recall for the same problem .

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) has failed for the SECOND TIME in this vehicles history. This problem disables the four wheel drive feature of the vehicle, causing a dashboard warning light to illuminate, and may lead to other serious drivetrain safety issues. According to the dealer service technician, the splines on the unit are wearing out and causing disengagement of the rear drive wheels. On some days, I would not hear the noise at all. On [XXX] I pulled onto a road and when on the road heard a loud clunk then head continuous grinding sounds. I believe it to be a failure of the PTU. I had an issue of a more constant grinding sound while driving eminating from the same area when the Jeep was at 63000 miles and still under warranty. I took it to the seller dealership, (Solomon Jeep in Brownsville, PA). They told me that the fault was with the PTU. Kept the Jeep for one month waiting for a replacement PTU. Now my Jeep is unable to be driven. I intend to explore the Lemon Law. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There was a recall issued for the PTU on my vehicle that is a safety concern. I have went to the dealership where purchased and no parts or remedy available. At one point the dealership considered trading the vehicle. Then changed their mind and offered two financed vehicles for me to make payment and not wanting the vehicle. Then changed their vehicle jolts at times along with slowing and almost shutting down One experience with both of these issues. The display screen shuts off and on randomly. The vehicle was recently put in 4 wheel drive in weather conditions and shortly after use an oil leak started. The recall has yet to be satisfied with correction and safety. I’m paying constant repairs and rental expenses during these times. Yet the manufacturer is offering reimbursement for outside repairs with outside dealership service mechanics. How are they able to make repairs with parts? But, no repairs can be made by the manufacturer due to not having a remedy or parts to repair? Arbitration will not help with the situation either because it’s a manufacturer recall.

My vehicle is under an open safety recall 01C involving the PTU system, and there has been no remedy available for nearly a year. This defect caused a dangerous and sudden loss of acceleration while I was driving, and the manufacturer has still provided no fix, and no support through the dealership. The incident occurred when I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green,I pressed the gas and the vehicle immediately made a loud grinding/shaking noise, shuddered violently, and lost all propulsion. The car would barely move. I was extremely lucky that there was a parking lot directly next to the intersection, and with the tiny amount of movement left,I was able to coast into it. If this failure had happened anywhere else—on a highway, in the middle of an intersection, or without a place to pull off—I could have been rear-ended or caused a collision. My safety was put at immediate risk due to this recall defect. I contacted the dealership, but they stated they could not repair the vehicle because Jeep/Stellantis had not released a remedy, parts, or service procedure for the recall. I was told multiple times that there was nothing they could do until Jeep provided a fix. After the breakdown, an independent shop confirmed the PTU failure, since the dealer still had no ability to repair it. All failed components and documentation are available for inspection. I lost use of my vehicle and was forced to take safety into my own hands. When I submitted reimbursement documen

Power Transfer Unit is showing error codes as my Service 4WD has been activated for warning light. Research shows many Jeep Cherokees from 2014-2019 were recalled for same issue. My Jeep Cherokee was not and now I have the PTU issue. My vehicle is 4WD and it cannot be used, long term effects can cause problems for my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the engine started revving, and the RPM was redlined. The vehicle then lost power. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and shifted into park(P), but the vehicle continued to coast. The contact turned off the vehicle and activated the parking brake. The vehicle was restarted after the tow truck arrived, and the contact observed the "Service Transmission" message being displayed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

While driving my 2019 Jeep Cherokee, the engine randomly shuts off without warning. This has happened multiple times at different speeds. The vehicle suddenly loses all power, and I have to coast to the side of the road. There are no warning lights, messages, or diagnostic codes before or after the stall. The specific component causing the failure is unknown, but it seems related to the electrical/engine/powertrain system. This failure puts my safety at serious risk because the engine dies unexpectedly in traffic, which could easily cause a rear-end collision or loss of control. I had a diagnostic scan done at AutoZone and no trouble codes were found. There were no symptoms or warning lamps prior to each incident ,the engine simply shuts off while the vehicle is in motion. This is a recurring safety hazard.

-There is a warning that pops up on the dash saying "4WD unavailable, needs service". It's winter and I can't use the "snow mode" or 4WD. -Potential for issues if I get stuck in the snow. -Took it to a repair shop to deal with the service light and they told me there was a recall. I was unaware until today. -Went to Jeep dealer and was informed there is no fix available at this time. It appears the recall was issued January 16, 2025.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
