2019 Jeep Cherokee complaints

Was involved in a t-boned accident where the front end of my jeep stuck a vehicle in the side. The collision sensor did not activate nor did the air bags deploy. The other vehicle involved had airbags that deployed. The jeep is at my residence for inspection. With airbags not performing properly (faulty) this did not keep the upper body from jilting forward which causes head and shoulder issues. Insurance has not investigated neither did police. There was no warning lights or messages indicating that there was a problem prior to the accident.

I took my vehicle to a local dealership to have the "auto stop start" system checked. I had a dashboard warning light indicating the system was not working correctly. No other warnings signals were displayed. The dealership performed a diagnostic check but found no problems with the "auto start stop system". The day after I picked up my car, I drove for ten miles and the car overheated. I contacted the dealership and was told to check radiator fluid and drive the car back if possible. I found no radiator fluid in the car. My car required a full engine replacement and several subsequent repairs to exhaust system and driveshaft. An engine can overheat and seize which can cause drivers to lose control and crash. Please note: The original engine was part of recall for oil consumption. Prior to the recall update, I experienced stalling in traffic without warning due to the engine recall.

The engine is stalling while driving and the battery warning will flash across the screen. The battery is not the issue. It was purchased in the last year and has plenty of life left.

While driving along, my jeep will suddenly lose all power, making it necessary to stop, place it in park, press my foot on the brake and re-start. There is absolutely no warning, no chugging or hesitation, it just dies. This is random and has occurred 4 times now. There has not seemed to be a pattern. The first time, I left my dooryard and within a couple hundred feet, it happend. The second time, I had been driving about a mile and it happened, the third time I had driven about 3 miles and it happend and this last time (this morning)my vehicle had been running idle for about 15 min, I drove about 5 miles and it just suddenly died. All of these events occurred without any kind of warning.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Altitude. The contact stated that his daughter was driving at approximately 70 MPH when the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that a connecting rod had punctured the engine block, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 40,507.

Received a “4WD System Unavailable” error on dash. Vehicle got stuck in 4WD. Vehicle has been at dealership since 1/13/2024. Apparently part is on back order.

Currently the seats sound like they arnt bolted down correctly. Also recently the key fob is failing to unlock the vehicle and its taking multiple trys of pulling the fob out of the ignition and putting it back into the ignition trying it on different sides buying multiple batteries. Also the the vehicle has always gotten stuck in gear, hard shifting.

The emergency parking brake locked up once while I was moving, on ice, and today I went to move the car and it would not disengage making the car unmovable. I tried all of the online suggestions to disengage it but none worked. I had to have it towed by AAA.

SUV parking/emergency brake automatically activates without driver doing this. This is what happened: stopped at red light foot on brake. The SUV has the feature to shut the engine off when stopped. Light turns green foot then goes to the gas. When the foot is lifted off the brake, the engine tries to restart and hesitates and at the same time the parking/emergency brake activates without this being activated by driver Unable to move forward more than a few feet and car stalls. Car has to be put in park. Engine completely needs to be turned off by driver. And the emergency/ parking brake shut off. This creates a significant safety risk for the potential of the car(s) behind the SUV accelerating into the back of SUV assuming that the SUV will be moving forward. I have encountered others with a Jeep Cherokee/ Compass with the same issue and cannot understand why there has not been a recall for this. The dealership attributes this to needing a new battery- they replaced this already. No one should have to drive like this. This has been ongoing for a while prior to the miles noted in this report. The symbol with an A and a circle with an arrow at the end of the circle and an ! Appear on the dashboard in orange.

I would like to report an issue regarding my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus, Vin No. [XXX] . This morning (on [XXX]), I was leaving a gas station, pulled away, was in drive when I stopped to pause for traffic and while attempting to merge into traffic, suddenly without warning my Jeep wouldn't move- it was revving when I pressed the gas but didn't move at all. Acting quickly, I put my foot on the brake, put the vehicle in reverse and then shifted back to drive. The vehicle began driving as it normally would. It felt like the vehicle shifted into Neutral without warning. I made sure the vehicle wasn't in fact in neutral when this happened as sometimes the shifter can accidently fall into neutral if bumped. It was in fact in drive. I am bringing this to your attention as I have noticed similar recalls for this particular vehicle and I wonder if my vehicle is in fact one of them that are affected but not yet discovered. Also, it should be noted that the incorrect vehicle is associated with my vin number on the NHTSA website. it shows up as a "2019 Jeep Cherokee Altitude 4x4" the vehicle is a "2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus". It also says no open recalls, and I fear that I am not receiving these notifications because of this error. And I am also afraid of my vehicle suddenly shifting into Neutral while I am driving on the highway. I do travel frequently and long distances almost daily. I have contacted Jeep Customer service and have made them aware of this issue. They suggest

The 4WD service light is on. It isn’t driving right. The internet says thousands of people have similar issues- all reporting the same thing. And defective PTU units are listed as the cause.

Sudden PTU problem at 70,000, gathering repair quotes

The sevice 4wheel drive light is on I had a problem with this 2 years ago and now again the ptu system needs replace this is the second time in 2 years and this time it’s not under warranty

The rear differential housing completely cracked open and all the fluids leaked out. This seems to be a common issue with 2019 Jeep Cherokees. I keep extremely well care of my vehicle and it has mostly highway miles and this issue should of never occurred. Not only could of the entire transmission been destroyed but there is no warning signal. The only reason I noticed anything was because there were oil spots in the garage towards the rear of the vehicle. This issue seems to be a manufacturer error through Mopar.

The rear differential housing started leaking and upon inspection it was found to be cracked along the bottom middle area. the part was replaced by an independent auto repair shop at considerable expense due to the cost of the part. the faulty part was not retained. if it had not been noticed it could have resulted in a catastrophic failure resulting in loss of control of the vehicle and potentially a crash could have occurred involving one or more vehicles. the part was confirmed to be defective by the independent mechanic after a thorough inspection and consequent diagnosis. there were no warnings of the situation other than the gear oil leak which started 10/16/1923. the repair was completed 10/26/23 due to having to order the replacement part. this repair should be covered by Jeep and as a long time Jeep owner i am disappointed in the lack of attention to this matter and am registering this complaint in hopes that it can be addressed. thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Had just stopped for gas while taking a friend home. All of a sudden the vehicle power shut off while driving down the road and could not get it to turn back on. No warning, nothing seemed out of the ordinary and it's never happened before. I checked my VIN to see if it could be part of the UA9 recall because that sounds like what happened, but my vehicle is not part of that recall???

My jeep started smoking under the hood. No safety lights appeared on the dash. Confirmed by dealership the PTU needs replacement. I have 76,000 miles so no warranty even though I purchased it new. Estimate to fix is $3500. I have been without my Jeep for 2 months and still continue to wait for the parts to come in. Very disappointing in the cost and inconvenience this has caused me.

68,000 miles on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. steering wheel started wobbling, hearing weird noises from the rear of the vehicle. took it in to get looked at (thankfully), rear differential and PTU is shot. mechanic was absolutely baffled and insisted I contact Jeep about this issue, as it shouldn't be my responsibility to fix their faulty parts. I honestly do not understand how there isn't at least an extended powertrain warranty on these vehicles by now, especially seeing MULTIPLE complaints about the SAME ISSUES every month on the NHTSA website. have to pay upwards of $4k now to make my jeep drivable again because I am out of warranty by 8k. seems to be a little convenient that these failures happen between 65 and 78k, when the vehicles are just out of warranty. but what angers me more than the money is what potentially could have happened had I not taken it in to get looked at - especially since this vehicle is my daily driver, which includes driving my 2 year old to and from daycare every day. Is it going to take someone to die for this issue to be resolved?!?! unbelievable.

It will occasionally stall to accelerate. As well as the electrical system for radio, thermostat, camera etc in dash won’t turn on or work intermittently.

I know Chrysler is aware that this is a serious safety concern because you’re in the midst of traffic in a high-speed one way freeway, a traction light came on by itself, transmission and PTU failed then you lost power had to slowly pull over to the left-hand lane as you had no power improper because you’re supposed to be on the right hand shoulder And you had no ability to accelerate and when you stopped the vehicle and tried to put it in the park, it rolled away when you went to reverse it you had a bit of reverse, but you had grinding so clearly something inside the transmission prematurely failed, causing the safety concern lucky Somebody wasn’t killed or an accident caused. Towed to dealer Then the dealership work order say tranny and power transfer unit needed to be replaced at a cost of $20,300. 5 mth past 5 yr warranty

While driving, car reved itsself up and when in neutral, sensor said 4wd Neutral Warning Vehicle May move even in park…..4wd System unavailable service required…Had a diagnostic done of the sensor light that came on. Diagnostic said codes u0403 for T-Case, C14A7 PTU motor. After much reading and research this same part was recalled in the years 2014-2017 Jeep Trailhawks. The PTU loss power and had me and my family on the side of the hwy! It made some jerking and clicking noise when attempting to switch the gears to drive. There is also an electrical issue where the heat will not stay on selected option. The radio flickers and will not stay on a station. The radio also was powered off and was still playing.

While driving the vehicle, the rpm’s suddenly shot up and the vehicle lost power, I was able to safely pull over to the side of road where I tried to place the vehicle in park. There was a lot of revving and grinding and the vehicle would not go into park and was going to roll away if I had not placed the parking brake. The car had to be towed to a dealer where they discovered the Power Transfer Unit had failed and the loss of motive power I was experiencing was the PTU failing.

While driving approximately 20mph in an extremely busy intersection my car jolted and stopped almost causing us to get hit from oncoming traffic coming from multiple directions. The start / stop system failed and the error message was “service start / stop system”. I had my daughter in the car when this very scary experience happened. After researching it seems like thousands of people have had the same issues all resulting in the “auxiliary battery “ needing to be changed . This has been reported as a faulty part on newer models. This battery controls the main functions of the car , including the start / stop system .

Engine oil leaks. VVT solenoid seal in the rear valve cover is leaking oil. That seal is integrated with the valve cover. Replace valve cover at 66,000 miles. I am excellent about my Jeep/vehicle maintenance. Warranty ended at 65,000 miles.

While driving the vehicle, it started to make a muffled whining sound then as you slowed down you would feel a thud then the whine would stop. This would repeat itself. This happened [XXX]. I brought it to my mechanic- First Class Alignment and Repair in Port Jervis, NY 12771. They informed me the vehicle should not be driven due to the vehicle could fail to operate while driving. They discovered a cracked Rear Differential. They had no explanation for this- they have never seen this before. I would say it is a manufacturers defect. I have pictures of the defect. The radio has started switching channels will not stay on one set station. Along with radio switching the touch screen also changes from maps to calling 911 and making sos calls, the back up camera will turn on while driving down roadway. The screen is constantly blinking and changing causes major distraction especially at night when it catches your eye. It is a major distraction while driving.

Without any previous warnings, the car stopped in the middle of the drive. Then the battery warning turned on, after trying to turn it back on.

My car's parking brake comes on during both stopping and driving, especially during acceleration. It recently engaged as my daughter, who was using my car to go Christmas shopping, was accelerating from a stop light and into an intersection. She was almost hit from behind when the brakes locked up in the middle of the intersection.

I have a 2019 jeep cherokee 4wd with 46077 miles. This has never happened before until now. It was dark out heading to work. I came to a stop when I went to go the jeep just literally shut down. Everything turned off- I had no lights, no engine, no warning at all. Would not start at all. I called my husband and when I opened the driver door the jeeps dash finally came on and I tried to start it, wouldn't at first than tried again it started. I turned around and drove back home. Contacted the garage. This is unsafe for anyone to put their life on the line. I was lucky I didn't get hit. I have 5 grandkids and this is not a safe vehicle to drive when there is no warning at all. Luckily It didn't do this on the railroad tracks. The garage told me to take back to the dealership. The dealership said there are no recalls on my vehicle. However, I see other jeep cherokee with the same issues and have recalls. Why risk my life or anyone else. All jeep cherokees of any year or engine size should be taken seriously.

During highway speeds upon strong acceleration up an incline, the car’s transmission suddenly shifted into neutral with no warning, the car still in drive and no lights on dash. There was a loss of power and I had to quickly merge over in traffic to safely come to a stop. After coming to a stop, the car resumed driving normally with another incident down the road at cruising speed. This has happed about 6 times, another accelerating from a stop. So far the diagnosis is unknown, with the car scheduled for service in the next week. This is a well documented and persistent problem with these vehicles equipped with this transmission.

My battery went out and I literally replaced it last year. Also when I replaced it last year the back light would stay on sometimes all night and day I was worried it could start a fire or something dealer didn't even bother checking it and left it like that and replaced the battery. Last month my vehicle wouldn't start and no warning or nothing before it just died on me good thing I had it in my driveway when this happened.

Rear differential failing

The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failed which rendered the AWD system useless for the vehicle. The car has been in the shop for 6 weeks and will likely be in the shop another at least another three because the PTU is on national backorder. This is the same failure that Jeep recently recalled for the previous year model Jeep Cherokee, but Jeep has not issued a recall on this year model.

The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V637000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

I purchased a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus brand new from a local dealership. My Jeep now has a little over 30,000 miles on it. I noticed when taking off from a complete stop, I would give my car gas and the vehicle would not respond. I would continue to press the gas pedal down almost to the floorboard hoping to get the vehicle to respond. When the car does respond, the transmission would slam itself into 1st gear and take off. The last time I experienced my car slamming into 1st gear, I was turning onto a busy highway, at night and light rain. When the car did shift into gear it caused me to go into the left lane with cars turning on to the highway from the other side of the road. I was originally turning into the right lane. I almost crossed over into a turning lane with numerous cars waiting to make a left turn onto the street I just pulled out from. I did not have any warning lights on the dashboard to let me know of an issue at any of the times the car was acting up. On numerous other occasions, it feels like the transmission is not shifting correctly while going at various speeds. I would need to let off the gas and then give the car gas again to get it to shift. My dealership’s service department has had my car since November 20, 2023, and I’m being told they have not been able to duplicate the issue. They wanted to know if I wanted to pick up my car. I feel this issue will cause a serious accident which could cause serious injury or death if not detected and fixe

PTU failure. Not being able to shift into 4 wheel drive. Afraid of losing forward power while driving on busy interstate. No longer have the extra safety and control that is available with 4 wheel drive

My "Service 4 Wheel Drive" light went off in my 2019 Jeep Cherokee (Limited) and my local Jeep Dealership informed me that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) had failed. Moreover, a complete failure of the PTU while driving would be very dangerous so I was lucky for this not to happen. I drive in Philadelphia and rarely have need of the 4WD feature so the part failure is mostly likely due to poor design or manufacturing. The repair cost me over $2600 (the invoice they emailed me before payment is attached). I learned that several previous models of Jeep Cherokees have been recalled due to PTU failures. It is irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer to continue to produce parts that fail on new models especially when failure is so dangerous.

The SVC4WD light has been turning on. Took it to get a diagnosis and the was told PTU is failing and needs to be replaced. Estimated repair costs are $1320

Car leaks water especially when parking and braking. Coolant always go low. No help from the dealership. This started with very low mileage. I have on it now 68k and it is low again.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #2. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V344000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

While driving on the freeway, the check engine light and came on and the car shut off. Luckily, traffic was light and I attempted to restart the car. It made a loud, whirring noise and stuttered but turned on. The check engine light remained on. I continued on my way home, staying in the right lane. After about 15 minutes the car shut off again. I was able to get it mostly to the shoulder. I attempted to restart it again but it did not restart this time. A police car pushed me off the fwy and I had the car towed home. The dealer was able to check my car a week later. After 2 days, they were not sure of the issue and advised I pick it up and drive it some more. The following day, it shut off while driving again.

The contact was able to pull to the side of the road to attempt to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact referred to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V739000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Right Rear brake caliper fail causing damaged rotor. Replaced all rear brake components and the service portion of the system dont work. All lights on. Shop is at a loss. Im at a loss why at 45k miles my rear brakes are junk and not being able to repair them.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the transmission erroneously shifted from 4WD to 2WD, and the vehicle would no longer accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. After pulling off the roadway and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle remained in 2WD with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission control module (TCM) message displayed. On another occasion while driving approximately 25 MPH, the transmission message displayed, and the transmission erroneously shifted to reverse, and the vehicle would only operate in reverse. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

2019 Jeep Cherokee PTU failed.
