Vehicle is new 2026 Indian 101 Scout purchased XXX. Rear brake experiences an intermittent 1-2 second total loss of hydraulic pressure/deceleration mid-stop when using rear brake by itself. The brake goes completely soft with zero resistance - giving the sensation that the pedal is not connected to anything - and then it resumes 1-2 seconds later. There is no ABS or traction control light that comes on, no deceleration, no mechanical pulsating in the brake, no skidding of rear tire. Experienced several times during first 500 mile break-in period. On XXX I reported to Owen Motorsports in [XXX] (original dealer/shop) during first 500 mile service. Dealer unable to replicate issue. They did however run updates to ECM/Ride Command software and I did not experience issue again for another ~500 miles. But, after happening again I scheduled service with Green Mount Road Motorsports in [XXX] for drop off XXX (closer dealer because of possibility of needing to leave bike overnight). This dealer called me later in the day after I dropped off the bike and said they test rode bike, were able to replicate the issue. The service employee or manager refused to further diagnose or repair the defect under warranty claiming a total loss of braking for 1-2 seconds is 'normal behavior.' Alarmingly, after opening a case with Indian corporate customer care (Case #XXX), neither I nor Indian corporate customer care can get the Green Mount Motor Sports service manager to return calls since XXX. No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Most recent recall on file: none. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
