2013 Hyundai Genesis sedan (BH) is experiencing the intermittent soft brake pedal and reduced braking pressure that matches the TSB 22-BR-001H for the HECU on 2009-2012 Genesis sedans. I took it to the local dealership but their mechanic said they could not recreate the condition. The ABS and ESC lights have both come on at times but I was told there are no stored codes. The tech noted that the rear driver brake pads appeared to have some additional wear indicating additional ABS activity or sticking brake pads. I paid to have a brake service performed and the brake fluid flush/replacement performed to eliminate the concern of any air entrapment or sticking brake pads. However, this work did not resolve the problem. The shop said there are no open recalls nor brake related TSBs for the 2013. They have not fully tested the master cylinder, booster, nor the HECU. With no support for the model year, despite the MANY issues reported for this problem on the 2013 and Hyundai's knowledge of these problems form 2009-2020 model years, this TSB should be expanded for additional model years and likely should be considered as a recall repair due to the safety risk of brake pressure loss.

It was taking to the dealership for a scheduled oil change and the issue with was mention to the dealership. They told me that they hadn't heard of that issue at the time.
Brake pedal has to be pushed harder than normal to get brakes to engage. Dealer has diagnosed problem as faulty ABS module which is not considered as part of recall for CCU unit on other hyundai models

The rear passenger window will no longer rise. This leaves my car an easy target for theft and water damage.
SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 295 JACKSONVILLE,FL FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. Luckily interior sunroof shade was pulled close or the shattered glass fragments would have fallen on passengers heads, The sunroof OEM is a powered sunroof that was in closed position and is not used or opened often. Outside weather at time was DAY LIGHT about 4:45pm no rain temp about 55 degrees. Called local Hyundai dealer to see if there were any open recalls & TSB's related to the sunroof shattering. They said none. I have pictures if needed. I tried to upload them but your website kicked me out when I hit the upload link below.
On multiple occasions, occurring more and more frequently, my 2013 Genesis R-Spec sedan has experienced brake pedal fade issues. The brakes work fine one minute and the next the pedal will go almost to the floor before slowing the vehicle down. The car has approximately 150K miles and is still in great shape. Brakes have been serviced, checked, and inspected by a reputable mechanic. No leaks or other issues noted. I did find a TSB related to this, Hyundai TSB [XXX], also it looks like there is a recall on earlier models, recall number13V-489 / 114, built on or before March of 2012. My car was built Oct 2012, but i believe it is affected. I contacted my local dealer to check to see if the TSB had been expanded or if there were any other issues and no deal. The person on the phone did tell me my car was not covered under the two issues above. I have since made an appointment to have the computer scanned to gather additional data. Please advise. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) The contact stated he provided the an incorrect TSB number and would like to provide the correct number.
The dashboard near front passenger side airbag is cracked and Hyundai wouldn’t tell me if it affects airbag deployment or safety.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that after engaging the parking brake, the wheels would intermittently lock-up while driving at various speeds, without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that the entire electrical parking brake system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and offered to partially pay for a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The problem is with the car's braking. Sometimes, the brake pedal will exhibit a "Low Brake Pedal" problem, where the point where the brake pedal starts to stop the car is lower than normal. If I use the brakes and then use them again right away, the brakes always stop the car as they should. But sometimes, you have to press the brake pedal further to the floor to get the car to stop. I've had the brake fluid replaced and this didn't change the behavior. The Hyundai dealership said the problem is either a faulty automatic brake system (ABS) component or a faulty master cylinder. At this point, the car still stops, however, it's odd to have to press the brake pedal further to have to get the car to stop. As this gets worse, the pedal may have to be pressed to the floor to get the car to stop. And eventually, the car might not stop even if the brake pedal is pressed to the floor. This problem is just like NHTSA recall campaign #13V489000, which affects Hyundai year models 2009-2012. But my car is a 2013, just one year after that recall's model year window.
Car overheated and engine now needs replacement
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? <-- ABS Hydraulic Module Control Unit How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? <--I barely had brakes, the dealer was shocked I even made it to the dealership. I was on the road and I could have died b/c the ABS system went bad. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? <--Yes it has been confirmed by a dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? <--It has been inspected by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? <--No! there were no warning lights or indication that the system was in line for failure. I noticed an issue when I had to floor the brakes in order for the car to stop. It first appeared in Oct 2021.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while approaching a traffic light at 35 MPH and depressing on the brake pedal, the vehicle began to pull to the left. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake hydraulic system unit to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V489000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
The contact's daughter owned a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at approximately 35 - 40 MPH, another vehicle ran a red light and crashed into the contact's daughter's rear driver's side door and tire, which caused her vehicle to spin into a 90-degree angle. None of the air bags deployed upon impact. The contact's daughter, her husband, and their thirteen-year-old daughter, who were passengers in the vehicle, later received medical treatment but did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while driving 50-60 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond and remained on the floorboard. The contact also stated that the vehicle was making abnormal sounds. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal for 30 seconds until the vehicle stopped. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence with assistance. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V489000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 146,000.
The car was rear-ended while in a stop and go traffic on a highway. The headrest on the driver side disintegrated exposing some hard internal parts that caused extensive head skin lacerations. The accident resulted also in and facial bruises and nose injuries. The driver and passenger were taken to Emergency Room. The car was towed away and subsequently declared a total loss.
Happend on 11/13/2021 morning around 10.30 AM. I lost complete control on my Hyundai GENESIS 2013 (v8, Race Specification 5.0) on brakes. I was gonig downhill and wanted to control the car but car was not responsive at all after applying breaks. This happened only for a few seconds, the engigne light came up on dashboard, a couple of other lights on dashboard also may have lighted, but I did not remember which one. I was very scared for a few moments. The engine light and other alram ligts went down and I got control. I want to take this car to nearby Hyundai dealer but I wanted to record this incident, so that if it happens while I drive, I should not be blamed for reckless driving. I am driving this car for many years (since 2013) and this has never happened before.
On Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at approximately 2:30pm, the engine failed suddenly while driving on the freeway in the left-hand lane at approx. 65 mph. Vehicle vibrated and gave off loud knocking sound and engine power was lost. Electrical power was maintained. No emergency lane was available on the left, so I had to coast to the right-hand emergency lane. Vehicles from behind came extremely close to striking my vehicle. The vehicle is currently in the possession of Hyundai; and appears to indicate connecting rod bearing failure.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 25 MPH. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 162,000.
While I am driving at around 20 mph, all of sudden engine shuts off, steering wheel is frozen, brake doesn't work, all light remained on dash board. I put it in park and start it. It comes back without any issues. No code are registered so dealer can not see the problem. Also happened in parking a lot about 5 weeks back. This is big safety issue where I might run into somebody without steering wheel and brake control.
The multi function switch on the steering column has a short within its components. When driving at night with the headlights on and I activate the multi function switch to change lanes, the headlights flicker. This is the second multi function switch that is having the same symptoms, because I had the same problem years ago and the multi function switch was replaced under warranty. It is now exhibiting the same symptoms as before but is no longer under warranty.
VEHICLE NOT STARTING PROPERLY AND THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NOR OTHER CERTIFIED SHOPS CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT'S CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. I'VE SPENT OVER $1000 AND STILL NO PROGRESS. DEALERSHIP EVEN REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI TECH FOR ADVICE .STILL NO ANSWER. IT'S BEEN TIMES I'VE BEEN SITTING 15 MIN TRYING TO GET THE CAR TO START. I'M READING BLOGS AND I SEE MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE..PLEASE HELP
AFTER THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON WHEN USING THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD TO PUSH AND CAUSES THE CAR TO PULL AND FAILS TO SLOW DOWN AS NORMAL. YOU THEN HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR TWO OR THREE TIMES AND THE BRAKES FUNCTION AS NORMAL AGAIN UNTIL THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE BASED ON SEVERAL FORUMS THAT I READ. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN, BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR CAR'S BRAKES UNLESS YOU SEE THE TRACTION CONTROLL LIGHT COME ON AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON IT SURPRISES YOU AND YOU CAN EASILY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IN THE NORMAL DISTANCE OR THE PULLING TO ONE SIDE ALMOST CAUSES THE CAR TO VEER INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC.
I WAS DRIVING AND EVERY LIGHT IN THE DASH CAME ON AND THE CAR SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO KFC PARKING LOT TO STOP AND RESTART.
PURGE VALUE FAILURE
WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKES GOES DOWN TO THE FLOOR AS IF IT'S GIVING OUT. I'VE READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THEIR BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT. THE REPAIR NEEDED WAS THE HYDRAULIC MODULE. BY READING THEIR COMPLAINTS, I'M HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS MY BRAKE HYDRAULIC MODULE THAT'S ABOUT TO GO OUT, CALL HYUNDAI TO REPORT IT BECAUSE THEY HAD A FEW CUSTOMERS IT HAPPENED TO AND THE REPAIR IS $3000. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BUT I HAVE TO GO TO WORK AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. I REPORTED IT LAST YEAR TO HYUNDAI AND THERE WAS NO ACTION OR FOLLOW UP AS IF THEY DON'T CARE. *TR

I'VE SEEN A LOT OF THESE CARS AND READ ABOUT A LOT OF THESE CARS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS I WAS SITTING ON A REGULAR ROAD IN PARK MY CAR SLIPPED INTO REVERSE WITH NO WARNING WHAT SO EVER WHILE THE GEAR STICK WAS STILL IN DRIVE I THINK THESE COULD HAVE BEEN BUILT STRONGER OR SAFER TO AVOID THIS AND THAT WAS JUST ONE INCIDENT OUT OF ABOUT 20 BUT THAT WAS BY FAR THE WORST
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO NEARLY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING THE CAR CAUSING A PANIC AND AGGRESSIVE BRAKING BEFORE NEARLY GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE HAVE TO PUMP THE PEDAL TO MAKE THEM WORK. THIS HAPPENED AT ANY SPEED AT RANDOM TIMES. THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND STILL HAVE PLENTY OF PAD LEFT. CAR HAS 125K MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES. MULTIPLE MECHANIC ADVICE AND ON LINE ISSUES POINTS TO A FAULTY $1600 ABS MODULE. I HAVE TWO OTHER MUCH OLDER VEHICLES WITH WAY MORE MILES WITH NO SUCH ISSUE
MY ENGINE SHUT OFF TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. BOTH SEEM TO HAPPEN IN TRAFFIC JAMS WHEN CAR IS IN LOWER GEAR. HAD TO PARK AND RESTART CAR.
2013 GENESIS HAS NEEDED THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED FOUR TIMES IN TWO YEARS AND EACH TIME IT ONLY LASTS ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING THE CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED AGAIN. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS DONE REPLACEMENT WORK IN EACH CASE. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS 07.30.19
WELL IT ONLY HAPPENS ON HOT DAY OR IN SUMMER. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. WHILE I'M DRIVING THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN GAS FUMES FILL UP THE INSIDE OF MY CAR SO BAD THAT I GOTTTA PULL OVER FOR A WHILE. THE OTHER DAY IT HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN AND I ALMOST PASSED OUT WHILE DRIVING. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND THEY TELL ME THAT THEIRS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT OR THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. I'VE OWND THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW AND IT'S BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THEN. NOW THAT IT ALMOST MADE ME BLACK OUT WHILE DRIVING WAS THE LAST SRRAW FOR ME. IT'S MADE ME HAVE HEADACHES BEFORE BUT NOT PASS OUT LIKE THE OTHER DAY. THIS IS WHY I'M REPORTING THIS TO YOU GUYS HOPING YOU COULD HELP ME. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I'M I. STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN THE CITY WHEN IT'S REALLY HOT OUT.
DRIVING LESS THAN 3000 MILES SINCE PURCHASED (74,000) - THE VEHICLE HAS POWERED DOWN/ENGINE SHUT 4 TIMES WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AND 1 TIME WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL. ALL 5 TIMES HAVE BEEN IN TOWN ROADS GOING UNDER 40 MILES PER HOUR OR AT A STOP. THE KEY HAS BEEN PLACED IN THE KEY INSERT EVERY TIME SO THERE WAS NO WAY FOR US TO BUMP IT WHILE DRIVING. IN ORDER TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO PLACE IT IN PARK AND POWER IT UP AGAIN. MOST RECENT HAPPENED TODAY SO WE ARE NOW FILING A COMPLAINT.

MY WIFE CAME HOME AN TOLD ME THAT THE CAR HAD ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. I TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE AFTER SHE HAD SHUT IT OFF, AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, AND SHE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THIS PASS WEEKEND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. I EVEN DROVE UP A HILL TO SEE IF IT WOULD KEEP ON ACCELERATING, AND IT DID. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED, IT WORKED NORMALLY. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF.

MY DAUGHTER GOT HIT BY 2 CARS AND ONLY THE HEADREST POPPED OPENED BUT NO AIRBAGS WENT OFF. A CAR HIT THE CAR BEHIND HER, SHE WAS A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR THAT HIT THE CAR BEHIND HER THEN HIT HER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (ALMOST LIKE A T-BONE). SHE NOW HAS A LOT OF SHOULDER, NECK AND SPINE ISSUES FROM GETTING SLAMMED INTO THE DRIVERS DOOR. IF THE SIDE AIRBAG WOULD HAVE GONE OFF, SHE WOULD NOT BE IN SO MUCH PAIN FROM GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND AND 2 SECONDS LATER GOT HIT FROM THE SIDE. I SEE LOTS OF ISSUES ON THE COUPE BUT NOT ON THE SEDAN MODELS & I FEEL THAT OTHERS SHOULD KNOW THIS TOO. ALSO, COLORADO POLICE FORGOT TO PUT PASSENGER IN HER CAR ON THE REPORT AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. HER PASSENGER TOOK THE HIT ON PASSENGER DOOR AND THEY HAD TO PULL THE OTHER CAR OUT OF MY DAUGHTERS CAR. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ON THE FRAME DAMAGE, BUT THE COLLISION REPAIR SAID "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, IT WILL BE FIND IF HIT AGAIN, HER AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF EITHER. THE DAMAGE WAS JUST OVER $11K AND INSURANCE VALUED CAR AT $17K WITH NO PROOF ON HOW THEY CAME UP WITH NOT TOTALING THE CAR. SHE IS PARANOID TO DRIVE IT NOW, CUZ WE DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAGS WILL GO OFF. COLLISION COMPANY REFUSED TO CHECK THE SENSORS, STATING "WE SHOULD HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE CAR". WHAT? SO I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY CAN SAY IF SAFE TO PICK THE CAR UP AND OKAY TO DRIVE. ALSO, STATE FAM WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL AT ALL.
THE HEAD REST JUST POPPED OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. THE RADIO GOES OUT SOME TIME ,I HAVE TO CUT IT OFF AND BACK ON TO MAKE IT WORK. THE DASH AROUND THE RADIO JUST STARTED COMING LOOSE FOR NO REASON. I'M RIDDING IN THE TO OF THE LINE HYUNDAI.

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Most recent recall on file: none. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
