Power tailgate began to malfunction first by opening slowly or not opening at all. Once open, would not close automatically. Would require a lot of manual force. Then, a "Power Tailgate Problem" error began to show on the dashboard. We took it to our local mechanic within about a week's time. They found the following 9 electrical codes: Power Tailgate Control Unit Internal Error Power Tailgate Right Touch / Pinch Sensor Circuit Malfunction Power Tailgate Left Touch / Pinch Sensor Circuit Malfunction Tailgate Closer Unit Half Latch Switch Circuit Malfunction Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse "A" Circuit Malfunction Power Tailgate Sensor Pulse "B" Circuit Malfunction Power Tailgate Drive Motor Circuit Malfunction Left Power Sliding Door Touch / Pinch Sensor Signal Error Left Power Sliding Door Touch / Pinch Sensor Signal Error They then found that the water was on/in the Power Liftgate Control Unit stemming from a leak somewhere in the body, probably around the D pillar. The Power Liftgate Control Unit will be replaced. The local mechanic recommended contacting Honda or a body shop to find the location where the water is entering the car.
Car Randomly started giving a failed warning sign that the LKAS system has an error. Took it to dealer and they say that the radar and the camera need to be replaced for 4000$. This is so completely random. It just broke on its own. There are also others who are complaining of the same issue with 2018 and 2019 odyssey [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Odyssey Minivan. The right rear sliding door became de-railed and stuck in the open position; the derailment also caused the third window on the right to break (rail is adjacent to the window).
Trunk is not properly sealed resulting in water getting into the trunk and corroding the tailgate control unit, this issue has been reported online hundreds of times. A week after my trunk flooded during heavy rain my car warning lights for the brake system, lane keep assist and several others lit up and wont work, the lights turn on and off intermittently - again this issue is being reported online by multiple owners. This is a known issue Honda refuses to acknowledge or resolve.
- Fuel injectors all need to be replaced - Cylinder misfire on a very new vehicle that should be relied upon - Dealer confirmed fuel injectors need to be replaced. Stated that this is a very common issue "I've seen a million of these". I asked why it would fail so early in the car's life and the dealer stated "problem with the milling process ... small needle like pieces break off and clog" - No - Check engine light came on for "Emissions system failure"
The van had 75k miles and would lose propulsion on the highway with no warning and no dash light coming on. van would slow way down causing other drivers to hard brake behind us, Then finally go back into gear and drive like nothing happened, couple days later the same thing would happen. We took it to Honda and said the transmission will need to be replaced.
Warning lights started being displayed stating that multiple vehicular functions were not working. (Vsa stability, emissions system, brake system, brake hold system, power steering problem) Upon inspection at the dealership I was told it was a fuel injector problem and it was not covered under the recall. The fuel injector is currently on back order and I have been waiting several weeks for a part. The estimate that was given to me was around $1200. I believe this should be covered by Honda
When I start the engine, I switch the gear from parking to drive mode and give it a gas, but the gas doesn't reach the engine the way it should, then after it starts running super fast even if I barely give it a gas, the timing belt is now making a cranking noise. Dealers told me it was an engine problem inside the engine. The dealer mechanic are even very surprised why this happened and after again I took it to other mechanics, and they told me the same thing and also they told me about the recall and after I've seen a recall on Honda Odysseys with different VINs, but my car has the same problem (NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-751). This issue is a manufacturer's issue and my car has 118,000 miles on it. I just bought it six months ago for $37,000 and it's out of warranty. I need help. All the mechanics suggested it has a manufacturing problem including the dealer mechanics, also they advise me to this page to report and get some help.
These safety features do not function on this vehicle. Issue warning lights when car is started.
The automatic sliding door won't close intermittently. When closing the sliding door, it will beep then slide back open, it creates a safety issue when the door will not close. The problem occurred intermittently and sometimes shut the engine off and then restarted the engine to fix it, but this has happened more than 30 times so it needs to be addressed.
Power tailgate problem repeatedly flashed on dashboard but would disappear before it was legible and the car was beeping while driving. We stopped and tried to see what the problem was but it wasn’t until we finally arrived home that it finally showed the full error on the screen. Apparently this drained the battery as well and we had to call AAA the following day to start the vehicle. They tested the battery which was only 2 years old (OEM battery died after only 2 years) and said it was fine. Drive around for 40 minutes and the next day it was dead again. Had it towed to the dealer who after much discussion agreed to replace the battery even though I read online about people having issues with water leaking onto the power tailgate module. The dealer told Me they had to replace the battery instead and the next day called to say that I was right, the battery replacement didn’t solve it. And when they looked at the power tail get module it was indeed corroded from moisture. But they wanted an additional $500 so they could subcontract to an “expert” who could seal that leak. I told them to only replace the module and asked why a recall hadn’t been issued. They said this was beyond their pay grade. I told them I’ll find a way to seal it myself.
On January 2, 2024 I was driving down the interstate the whole dash board electrical system went out and quit working. After a period of time it came back on. Started down the interstate again went out a second time. Afraid to drive it anywhere. Taking it to Lees Summit Honda in Lees Summit MO for them to check it. Thank goodness it was day light. I was really scared and almost wrecked the vehicle. I had my mother and my two young boys in the car.I also looked to see if there were any recalls and there were none.
Rear lift gate ceased operating, unlocking or opening. Later received errors on dash for blind spot malfunction and transmission error. Dealer says it is an issue with water leaking into the rear chassis getting into the exposed electronics.
The vehicle listed above with Vin [XXX] often does not takeoff properly. When pressing the gas, it lunges forward as though it did not receive any gas to the engine or the engine stalls, or does not operate correctly. This issue has been addressed with several mechanics, and no pertinent ruling has ever been established as to why the vehicle does this. Delay or rough shifting betwee 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Sudden deccelerations Sudden loss of power twice happened on the free while accelerating.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the Emissions fault warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was diagnosed but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
On December 8, 2023 I left my home where the vehicle is parked in a garage to drive to work. About a mile down the road I heard a loud pop and glass was flying off the top of the car. The sunroof of the vehicle had exploded without any direct impact to the sunroof, extreme vibration on the road, or extreme temperature. The car was at about 45 mph and the temperature was above freezing.
My 3 year old daughter had the sliding door shut on her hand completely. It shut and sealed in place whereas it would normally beep and reopen when it sensed an object in the path.
My power tailgate control unit is fried due to a leak in rear driver side.
On multiple occasions when traveling at a low rate of speed when the accelerator is pushed there is no response for up to 2-3 seconds then the car suddenly accelerates forcefully because the gas pedal has been pushed to the floor with no response. It has mostly happened when we are making a left hand turn and have slowed. Due to the seconds of delay we have been almost t boned and are hesitant to make a left hand turn if there is any traffic because we don't know if the car will immediately accelerate or if it will hesitate. We are able to reproduce it to some extent by accelerating the car to about 5-7 mph, letting off the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. We took the car to the dealership and they reproduced it and contacted the Honda techline who told them it is normal. It has been scary for myself and my wife and does not feel normal for the car to have a complete delay in response and then over respond.
Delay in acceleration. It is an intermittent issue. Noise when gear is changed. Coming from a stop or slow down, pushing the accelerator pedal slightly, the car does not respond. Pushing the accelerator pedal further down the car jerks(responds), accelerates but faster than needed/desired. The accelerator pedal needs to be released, push the pedal again to increase the speed to as needed/desired. Sometimes this results in a loud boom coming from the engine or transmission as if the gears did not engaged previously, but when pushing the accelerator pedal harder. Having searched the internet several people reported the same/similar symptoms. Some people took the car for check up, but no improvement afterward. My dealer could not help me either but offered to check the car out for $ 200 bucks. No engine light is/comes on. This is an intermittent issue, so duplicating does not seem to work. Having worked in maintenance at OCTA, I recall being told symptoms as the above, resulted in changing shifter or transmission or parts thereof.
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the significant reliability issues I have encountered with my 2019 Honda Odyssey. Unfortunately, these issues have led to inconveniences, unexpected expenses, and a reevaluation of my trust in the vehicle's long-term dependability. During the warranty period, the vehicle suffered from water infiltration in the trunk, resulting in flooding. Addressing this problem required multiple interventions by the dealership. Post-warranty, an electrical/electronic component related to the liftgate module malfunctioned, leading to an unforeseen repair that cost upwards of $800+. Subsequently, the vehicle experienced recurring starting problems, necessitating jump-starts on multiple occasions. Most recently, a complete failure to start occurred, requiring towing to the dealership, which unfortunately happened while away from home. Extensive diagnostics revealed the necessity to reprogram the BCM (Body Control Module) to resolve the issue. The repetitive and varied nature of these issues, especially for a four-year-old vehicle, raises concerns about the reliability and quality standards associated with the Honda Odyssey. These recurring inconveniences and unexpected expenses have compelled me to reconsider recommending this vehicle to friends and family. Of particular concern is the possibility of experiencing a breakdown in remote areas during extended trips. The prospect of being stranded with my family in such situations is troubling and
The car failed to start several times, and then it fell out of drive completely while I was driving down the street with my child in the car. Fortunately I was only on side streets where the speed limit was low because the car just stopped working about five times in one city block. I hate to think what would have happened if I was on a highway at higher speeds. We had the car towed to the Honda dealership closest to us. They handled about 7 different recalls on the van and didn’t at first identify any serious problem as it didn’t abruptly stop when they drove it around their block. However, when I stopped in and described the issue, they test drove it again. They couldn’t get it to start and then it stopped abruptly on them when they drove it a bit more. There is a recall that has to do with seizing up and not starting and stopping abruptly but my local folks say that this seems like a transmission issue and not the issue with the same symptoms that are listed in the existing recall. Could they be mistaken or could these two issues be related since this existing recall is so new that they haven’t alerted owners yet? They still have my car and say that it is not drivable.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly. I am not a mechanic. Therefore, I am not so sure. It's available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Misfire of the car can be a serious issue on the road which put the driver safety at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No
This vehicle decelerates or loses power while driving . This has happened 3x. Also vehicle is lag in accelerating from take off, my fear of getting t-boned if it stalls Most recent date below. Has been taken to dealer numerous times
The vehicle's transmission has been continously shifting erratically, where shift intervals do not correspond with engine speed and or vehicle speed. The pattern is so erratic that the transmission causes a very strong jolting or surging motion and loud thudding sound. I have checked on fluid level and found the level within required standards. I bought the vehicle on 7/13/2023. The Dealer never disclosed any transmission issues. I have been observing this issue from 7/18/2023 to the present. It has since, been progressively constant and is a safety issue, where the vehicle could break down when operated in high traffic areas that require speeds up to 65 mph. Collisions due to stalling or surging from this vehicle would be catastrophic and include multiple deaths or injury.
The motor that raises and lowers the rear liftgate failed and has been repaired already at a Honda Dealership. The van is not even 5 years old yet and the motor failing caused the lift gate to droop after opening causing my wife and I to bang our heads on it if we weren't watching for it. The more important safety concern is if the liftgate lowers to a certain point, the motor causes it to bounce up and down slightly and then automatically close. My concern for the safety of my young children made me get it repaired promptly. The honda dealership did confirm that the motor failed and it caused strain on the right strut as well need it to be replaced as well. There were no warning lights on dash. This is a youtube link to someone else with the same van and year with the same problem. This is what my van was doing. Have been receiving an error about rear sliding door for 2 months. Now the inside of the door is rubbing against outside of van when opened & has made the inside door panel loose.
For over a year, when ever I press on the gas to accelarate the car stalls and this is very dangerous as it could cause an accident. It is not related to being low on gas as it happens even the the tank if full. The most recent issue happened yesterday. I was on a stop sign, and when I pressed the gas to go, the car moved forward a bit and then it stalled, leaving me on the middle of the intersection about to get hit by upcoming traffic. I was able to press the gas a couple of time and get car moving, but I was about to get him. A few weeks ago, again I had a similar situation. I was at a red light, and when I pressed on the gas, my car stall and wouldnt move, causing everyone behind me to honk their horns. I once again then to press the gas a couple of time for car to move. In addition, a few weeks ago, I was yieling to enter a highway, and when I press the gass to speed up and enter it, the car once again stall and was about to get hit by upcoming traffic. The issue is not related to gas tank, as I just recently had that replace after it suddently rip. Not sure how that happen, maybe another think to consider looking into. When I advised the dealership of such, they said stalling is normal due to type of engine. There is nothing normal of putting your life at risk. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Airbag system (SRS) problem
My vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes with no warning. The “brake” light for the emergency braking system began flashing at the same time the car began a hard brake. It came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and I had absolutely no control over the vehicle. I was very fortunate that it didn’t cause a collision but it came very close. I don’t see how this is a safety feature, it’s incredibly dangerous. The only way to turn it off is to remember to turn it off every time you start the car. Absurd.
Van had srs code on from when bought by original owner. I bought van recently and tried to fix the issue I had the airbag replaced and the error went on a few days later. While looking into the issue I spoke to a few mechanic's who have both seen this issue with other vans with the same make and model. In those cases also it didnt help with replacing the airbags. There seems to be a real issue here but there isnt yet a recall.
The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its ZF 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an EX-L with the ZF 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.
Transmission has completely died. We were traveling on vacation when this happened. Started with very rough gear shifting. Our safety was at risk because random warnings then came up on the screen such as cruise control not working, brake assist. Car would not drive normal. Check engine light never came on. The car was towed to the local honda dealership who confirmed it needs a new transmission. We just purchased this car 3 months ago. They inspected it before selling and stated everything was fine.
Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating. We have to continue to drive 45 mph with the car sounding terrible all the way home. Once home the vehicle somehow resets itself and all of the flashing lights turn off.

I have a 2019 Odyssey Elite and the following lights come on: Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC); Auto high-beam problem (A); Road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Som
When stopped at an intersection, waiting to turn left, vehicle sometimes will not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. If I do a very light acceleration, then let go of the gas, then try to accelerate, it is as if the transmission is in 5 gear or something. After a 3-4 second lag, the vehicle will then seemingly find 1st gear, and will accelerate. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous if making a left turn and cars are speeding towards me. I push the gas pedal, but the car does not move, meanwhile cars are getting closer to me, and cars behind me are honking. I have taken the car to Honda dealer three times for this issue. Each time they do something to "fix" the problem, and each time, the problem persists.
Multiple random times lifting foot from brake at intersection car lunges then completely dies. Car is stuck in street and battery light is on. Battery needs to be jumped to get working, battery and alternator test fine, replaced battery with agm battery three months ago and same thing happened today. Luckily tire store was at the intersection and they were able to jump it to get it going, they tested everything and no issues, they had no idea why it would happen.
Auto Engine Idle Stop function does not restart engine after stopping engine. This situation happens regularly. This causes a dangerous situation when the car does not restart when driving I n traffic. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership and they are unable to resolve.
Rear tailgate seal failure 2019 honda odyssey allowing water intrusion and corrosion of lift gate control module, per ft lauderdale honda dealer. Not a safety issue but a design defect per other honda owners.
The trunk lift gate can suddenly fail and slam down quickly, being a safety hazard. When the trunk opens, it will move up and down a few times, then it will beep three times and slam shut. It consistently happens when parked on an incline.
Safelite replaced after market windshield in 2020 now I bought new ADS CAMERA. Honda was unable to program/(AIM-recalibrate). Took it to Safelite, they didn’t want to responsible for it.
The defective part is the fuel pump it cause the vehicle to stall when operating, increasing the chance of a crash. Also the car won’t start. Took the car to the dealer and gave me an estimate.
Over the last three weeks, there were 3 incidents where the emergency braking system spiked the brakes when there was no reason. There was one incident where the lane departure spiked the brakes for no reason. Over the first 5 years owning the vehicle, this never happened. The first incident was going around a curve on a 2-lane road I travel at least twice a day. It sometimes beeps for cars in the other lane, but has never spiked the brakes until now. The car in the other lane was not over the line. There was a car behind us and they almost hit us due to the rapid braking. Incident 2 was on a straght road when there was a right lane closure with orange cones gradually blocking the lane. I started moving to the left lane well in advance and was most of the way in the lane when the brakes spiked. There was no oncoming traffic, but a car behind me had to brake hard to avoid hitting me. Incident 3 was similar to Incident 2, except there was a box in the road. With a straight road and no oncoming traffic, I was fully in the left lane, avoiding the box, when the brakes spiked. The 4th incident involved spiking the brakes with a lane departure warning. I was going around a curve that I travel at least twice a day. The road was clear and no traffic coming the other way. Going around the left curve in full control, the right lane departure warning sounded and spiked the brakes. The brakes had never applied before in a lane departure scenario. I took the van to the dealer and they made
Our 7 year old was sitting in her car seat when the seatbelt lost tension. Turns out the bolt, securing the belt, was never actually bolted in with the proper torque. The lock washer was as good as new, so if it was threaded at all it was certainly not enough to protect a family. As you can see in the picture, the lock washer was never engaged, this should not have been on the road.
Warning light turn on without any cause. No accident involve. Just happen overnight.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds with the Forward Collision Avoidance Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
Under certain conditions, the accelerator pedals fails to provide propulsion when depressed. The most common scenario in which this happens is when leaving a parking area and proceeding onto a roadway, especially if the parking area is elevated above the street slightly. The driver depresses the accelerator pedal slightly to move the car from a standstill, but then releases the accelerator due to the slight downhill, or transition onto the roadway. When the accelerator pedal is depressed again, nothing happens. Often the pedal will travel all the way to the floor with no result. Or sometimes, the engine/transmission "catches" and an abnormally large amount of power results in spinning tires. In any case, this is extremely dangerous, and has nearly caused accidents with oncoming traffic when pulling out onto busy streets. It happens fairly reliably, approximately 70% of the time when depressing the accelerator pedal more than once. I have not sought dealer service on this yet but will be in the coming weeks.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
