When audio system is turned on, a very loud crackling sound occurs, and will continue after audio is turned off. Sirius XM works most of the time (with crackling sound). However, when the regular radio is turned on the audio will work for just a minute (with crackling sound), and then it will suddenly stop working and a message pops up on the display that says "audio connection lost". This also happens when a phone's Bluetooth audio is connected to the car. It triggers the audio system to suddenly fail. There has been other electrical issue with the rear lift-gate suddenly closing, with no way to stop it. It almost pinned my daughter and I on separate occasions. I'm not sure if this electrical issue is related to the audio issue, but as with any electrical issue I worry about the possibility of an electrical fire.

When pressing the accelerator from a stopped position, sometimes there is a need to let off the accelerator and then press it again. There are times when I do this sequence of events and the car doesn’t accelerate but almost seems to stall. Pressing the accelerator does not increase the speed. To remedy, I have been waiting a few seconds before repressing the accelerator to give the van time to shift or whatever it needs to do not to “stall”. This evening particularly, I was turning right on red so I accelerated and then I noticed that the cars on the street I was turning into had started to go so I let off the accelerator. Unfortunately I noticed that I was too far into the intersection and had no choice but to keep accelerating but my van stalled and wouldn’t accelerate when I pressed on the gas for a few seconds. It eventually “caught up” and accelerated but I ended up spinning my tires and “peeled out”.

I was driving on the interstate at 80 mph when my engine suddenly failed. The check engine light began to flash, the car began shaking, and there was a very loud thumping from the motor. Thankfully, I was able to pull off the road to safety. Honda diagnosed the problem this morning. They said a connecting rod bearing rotted out, so the engine threw a rod. There is a recall addressing this exact issue for my model year, but my VIN was not included in the recall. Doing a quick google search, I found several other owners of 2018 odysseys in the same boat - sudden engine failure due to a thrown rod, but their VIN wasn't included in the recall. I drive my car a lot, so it has 140,000 miles on it already. This makes me think that I'm likely to be in the early wave of vehicles experiencing sudden engine failure due to an issue with the conn rod bearing. Someone else may not get so lucky and be able to pull off the interstate when their engine blows. The repair is going to cost me approximately $8,000. Once I have the invoice and other documentation available, I'll share it here. I didn't want to delay sharing this information until after the repair is done, though, because if Honda doesn't expand their recall to include more 2018 Odysseys, someone else isn't going to get as lucky as me, and injury or death are a real likelihood. (Plus, having your engine suddenly fail is just a bummer regardless.)

After weathering hurricane Milton, the rear liftgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey will not open. No apparent damage was done to the vehicle, however after starting the van, the dash stated there is a power liftgate issue. This warning was not present before. After doing some research the issue appears to be the tailgate control module, as many other people have found this to be the case. Some people have said to open the tailgate from the inside using the manual latch. However, in my case after attempting to do so, the door remains stuck. A lot of people have pointed to water intrusion as the reason for a faulty Tailgate Control Module. If I am able to open the liftgate manually I intend to replace the faulty module.

When I turned on the ignition to drive the vehicle, multiple warning lights came on to include failure of Lane Keeping Assistance, Forward Collision Avoidance, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Additionally, after acknowledging these lights, the "Brake System" light remained on in the Amber color. If these safety features are not working properly, it can put the occupants of my vehicle as well as others at risk. We took the vehicle to the Honda Dealer. They ran the diagnostics and stated that the fault was "Internal Electronic Failure of Multipurpose Camera Unit/Internal Failure of Multipurpose Camera". We had to replace the Multipurpose Camera and have the new one re-calibrated.

When trying to accelerate from a stop either in an intersection or from a driveway the vehicle takes a long moment before it responds... leaving my family vulnerable to cars coming from the opposite direction. UNKNOWN At random times I will push the gas pedal and the car does not engage at all to move. I will lift my foot up and down trying to engage the engine and it won’t. After a few times it will catch and the car takes off making the tires squeal, spin or jerk. It happens at random times, no warnings whatsoever that there’s a problem. It is very dangerous at intersections when turning left on green lights, when pulling out of parking lots. It’s to the point I am afraid to drive it at busy traffic times because it happens so often and I’m afraid of getting hit while my car will not move. We have told the dealership and they suggested we wait for the fuel pump recall to be readily available. I looked in forums and this seems to be a major problem for many other owners of the 2018 or newer. It started approximately two years ago and continues to happen, in fact happening more often.

I lowered the volume and crackling still loud like little tiny rocks hitting window sound. I seen there's a recall with the same issue for other vehicles but when i input my VIN there's no recalls. I am having the same issue and feel like my vin /vehicle type should be on recall as well.

My 2018 Honda Odyssey van have had persistent acceleration hesitations after completed stops, especially during making left or right turns at street intersections since July 2022. This car normally hesitates for 2 to 3 seconds after accelation pedad is pressed before suddently jumps forward. Acceleration hesitation for few seconds, during making a turn, is very dangerous due to in coming cars in my opinion; as a result, we have tried to avoid using my odyssey van as much as possible due to potential accidents when making a turn with this Honda van.

The tailgate malfunctions and the car does not register the tailgate as closed even if it is closed. The power tailgate ceases to be operational and the locks do not work. The cause is a defect in a seam which allows rain water to reach the control unit for the tailgate. This was confirmed after an inspection at an official Honda dealer. This is a safety issue because it renders the car inoperable. The “tailgate open” warning signs and sounds flash. There is currently a Honda “Engineering Request for Investigation” released. This is a huge safety issue and could cause severe problem for many drivers and passengers in case of serious accidents which could be avoided if those systems are functioning properly. Upon researching the issue, this is very common problem for many of similar vehicles and it seems to be related to the monocular camera on the windshield. We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23V751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000.

There are times especially when first starting the car that pressing the gas does not move the car from a stopped position. There is quite a delay and sometimes a need to turn the car off and back on for the car to move. This can be quite dangerous when stopped and then crossing lanes of traffic as it is unknown when this delay between pressing the gas pedal and the car actually moving may occur. This was reported to Honda service who advised it is normal for this car to have such a delay.

Failure of the Front windshield mounted monocular camera from overheating causes all advanced driver assistance systems to shut down such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, etc. This is a very common occurrence in not just the Honda Odyssey, but other Honda models as well. A new part can be anywhere from one to two thousand requiring dealer calibration. The heat from the sun, the location of the monocular camera and possible contribution from replaced non-OEM windshields may contribute to the overheating. With all safety devices disabled, the vehicle becomes unsafe to operate requiring immediate attention and dealer only service since a new device requires calibration.

There is a water leak in the body of the van (where the top and side are welded together). The water has caused damage to the electrical panel that controls the back door/liftgate. The water damage is also shorting out and causing electrical damage and the battery to die very often. I have noticed many complaints about this. I believe this should be a recall because it is a flaw in the making of the vehicle and nothing I could have done to prevent it.

I have a 2018 odyssey and have only had it for about 6 months. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is when I go to accelerate, the car does not go right away. I have to push down hard on the pedal and the tires spin, resulting in the van lurching then accelerating quickly. This has caused MANY moments of panic as I’ve gone to accelerate to pull into traffic or to drive across a main road and it’s stalled for a moment then lurches into accelerating. I’m a careful driver and have always used acceleration in moderation and try to ease into it. This van does not allow that. You will try to press down on the pedal to slowly accelerate with nothing happening, then it’s like it connects and plows forward. Tires spinning and all.

Prior to purchasing this vehicle, On the test drive, the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason. The dealer assured me the collision mitigation braking system (“CMBS”) can be turned off, so I bought the car. I then learned that the CMBS automatically turns on every time the engine is turned on. I must shut CMBS off each and every time I start the car, but since my other car is a Tesla (which doesn’t have this problem), sometimes I do forget to shut off CMBS. Through out my almost 7 years of ownership, the car has slammed on the brakes COUNTLESS numbers of times for absolutely no reason at all. Sometimes no cars are behind me, but there have been several times when cars behind me have almost crashed into me due to my faulty CMBS. My elderly mother is in need of a car and I refuse to let her borrow mine because I am scared she will forget to disable the CMBS and get into a crash. I am deeply astonished that with everything that is known about Honda’s CMBS, NHTSA has not taken any action against this dangerous feature. I wonder what NHTSA is getting paid to look the other way. A complete failure of an institution I used to hold in high regard.

I bought new and have 59,000 miles on the car. During the past year or two, when I get to a stop sign and about to cross or turn into a busy road (that has no traffic signs for the cars traveling on that road), the car hesitates when I step on the gas pedal, then after a second or two, the car lurches forward (abruptly) while screeching the tires. My analysis is that there is something about making several complete stops in short succession (as a driver would do in an attempt to inch into a busy intersection of fast moving traffic in order to get a better view and position the car for a smoother merge) which triggers the car to stall for a second or two. I say this because it does not happen at any other types of intersections. The danger here is that a second or two is crucial in avoiding a crash when you are trying to merge into a gap in traffic. Then after hesitation, the car lunging forward in an uncontrolled manner can cause an inexperienced driver to loose control of the vehicle during a turn. There are many similar complaints filed with NHTSA and posted on online owner forums. Many owners have reported to Honda, but Honda’s response is that this is how the car is supposed to drive. NHTSA, where are you? We need help on this

The vehicle often hesitates to accelerate when pressing the fuel peddle. This mostly happens when backing out of a driveway and placing the gear into drive but also has happened after coming to a full stop and then pulling out. The hesitation lasts about 1-3 seconds and could lead to a collision if I decide to pull out in front of oncoming traffic and anticipate the car to accelerate rather fast. Often, during the hesitation the instinct is to press the gas pedal harder, in which case, when the vehicle does accelerate it will spin the tires, making forward progress even more frustration and dangerous. This happens with both drivers in the family, it is not isolated to just once person's style of driving. This becomes a safety issue if you expect to merge into traffic and the vehicle does not respond. we have adjusted our driving habits in this car to assume it will not accelerate when from a full stop. We have not had a shop verify the condition. No warning lights or messages appear. The car is NOT in ECO mode. Doing a google search for the condition, it does not appear to isolated event.

The right sliding door has had intermittent malfunction for years. often, the door will not work with an automatic function and must be pulled open or closed manually which is nearly impossible to accomplish. most often the right sliding door malfunction notification appears when driving at highway speeds which is extremely unsafe. this has been inspected by the dealership and no fix or resolution was provided. recently, all of the ADAS systems are intermittently malfunctioning. they work about 1 out of every 5 times the vehicle turns on LKAS, Auto Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, are all affected. within the last week the internal camera system has been failing, audio stops working, and most importantly the rear hatch has been closing on its own while i am standing underneath it loading the trunk. this is also very unsafe, it atleast beeps to warn that it is closing but i sometimes barely have time to get out of the way. yesterday while driving in the highway, two warnings appeared simultaneously for “transmission system problem” and “blind spot notification system error”. the vehicle started again without the transmission system or blind spot error but i am very concerned about the degrading electrical system issues that i have been experiencing with this family oriented vehicle model.

This complaint is related to the recall issued for the fuel pump repairs. The car hesitates when starting from a stop. The hesitation is alarming enough during left turns to avoid on-coming traffic. The dealer and Ameican Honda has been made aware of this. However, the local dealer is refusing to prioritize the repair. The local dealer (Economy Honda of Chattanooga) states that they will prioritize the repairs only when the car comes to complete stop. With this kind of policy of the local dealer, I do not know when the repairs will be done. The car is used to transport four children and the family. Please help getting the repairs done as soon as possible. The safety of children and the family is at stake. This occurs all the time when the car is used. This car had two issues: 1) Fuel pump recall 2) Fuel injector warrantee repairs. Attached is a letter to the dealer about both problems. The dealer has addressed the fuel injector warrantee repair issue. However, they are totally refusing to prioitize the fuel pump repairs unless the car comes to complete stop. The dealer has been made aware of the issue in a letter dated June 20, 2024 written by my father Also, a case has been registered with American Honda in this matter. American Honda is refusing to do anything until the dealer prioritizes the reapairs. Neither American Honda or the dealer are priritizing the repairs and expects us to drive the car under current unsafe condition. Please help.
