2023 Honda HR-V complaints

The rear window shattered while I was in the doctors office. The Honda dealership here replaced the window from a local glass installer because the Honda window is on backorder. They will replace the glass when they receive the Honda window. The rear window defroster has a defect that causes the window to shatter. I'm just glad I wasn't driving when it happened or I could have wrecked. I haven't been charged anything for the window. There wasn't any indication that there was a problem.

We bought this 2023 HRV sport on [XXX] 2024, from the dealer St Louis Honda -Dave Mungenast. It has just under 6,000 miles on it. On Monday [XXX] I was driving on a road, non highway. Driving about 20-25 mph and the rear hatch window shattered. We were not rear ended and nothing was thrown at us. We had a baby sitting rear facing in the back seat. That window could have shattered and blown all over the baby and other passenger in the rear seat causing serious injury. I drove the car to the dealer since we had the car less than 48 hours. We were given a loaner car. On Tuesday, [XXX] I received a call from Matt at the shop dealership. We were told that the back window was on back order and they did not know when they would get one. I’m very concerned that this could’ve caused serious injury to the baby that was in the backseat. And in researching this window I’m finding out that this is a common problem with the HRV. When will this problem go on recall? I bought a Honda because of the safety and reliability that comes with it. Less than 48 hours of having this new car, the back window shattered. My rear window randomly shattered. Car is on in park, pulled over in a parking lot as it was flooding outside. The rain stopped and then boom, the window shattered completely. Nothing hit the car or the window, nothing fell on the car, and the car wasn’t moving when this happened. I’ve seen other reports of this happening and I’m pretty concerned to drive the car around.

So my 2023 Honda HR-V is experiencing jerky steering. Today, it jerked so hard as I was turning a curve & it almost ran me into a concrete wall.

My back window exploded at a stop light, literally out of nowhere

My back glass shattered while driving to work. Nothing struck it, it just exploded and was in a million pieces held together by the tint on the back window or so it seemed. I did call the state highway patrol but they said since it wasn’t an accident they couldn’t do a report. I thought at first it was a gun shot it was so loud when it popped. Called insurance, they referred to Safelite for repair. Upon googling it I saw it was an ongoing issue and thought I should file a report.

While leaving the driveway for work, without any warning the rear windshield shattered. Extremely loud almost like a gunshot. I was driving approximately 10 miles an hour. Upon research by my husband it appears there are several complaints of this happening to this make and model.

I purchased the Honda HRV Sport in February 2023. Have accumulated only 4,000 miles since mostly on city streets. whenever I drive my HRV over 5 miles at 45 or 35 miles per hour, the steering wheel intermittently wants to turn right or left and requires more force to counteract than the lane keeping assist. I thought it was the lane keep assist function that was malfunctioning without giving a warning and turned it of. That did not fix the problem. It continues to occur intermittently. The dealer was not able to duplicate.

My rear windshield suddenly shattered while the car was idling. I this happened because I was using the defrost system, as from my understanding several 2023 HRVs have had their rear windshields shatter from using the defrost system. The windshield "popped" and left a sizeable hole in the corner. As I drove home, the shattered glass fell into my trunk and possibly left pieces of glass on the road. I was worried that my passengers in the rear seats would have glass showered on them. The windshield is available for inspection upon request. I have not yet been able to take it anywhere to be inspected. There were no warnings before the windshield shattered.

While driving my 2023 HRV I had the defroster on as it was raining and hard to see. I had turned it off when pulling up to my house and my back window immediately shattered causing a big boom which I thought was something falling over. Once in the park, I noticed the window falling through into my trunk.

Steering is sticky. causes erratic steering especially at highway speeds. dealer inspected an stated it was normal. no lights or warnings. we feel its unsafe and sold it back to the dealer.

The car stalls randomly while driving. Has stalled 5 times in less than a year. 3 times while accelerating and 2 times while coming to a stop at a stop sign. Car was dropped off to dealer for a couple days and testing and evaluated. Dealer service could not determine an issues with any systems. Car being dropped off again to the dealer today

Upon opening the driver's side door and getting into the vehicle I heard glass tinkling and turned around to see where it was coming from. I noticed that the rear hatch glass was shattered. Looking closer it appeared that the glass broke in multiple places as there were two large holes and then it also shattered around the edges of the glass. I called my local Honda dealer as well as Honda Customer Service but they told me there hasn't been a recall for the rear glass and that the vehicle would have to be inspected for it to be covered under the warranty. I ended up just getting it fixed with a local auto glass shop since I needed to be able to drive it ASAP. There were no cracks or chips in the glass beforehand and I had not heard rattling or cracking while driving it the last time. We also couldn't find any rocks or anything in or around the car and there were no signs that it could have been a break in. The car alarm never went off and I never heard or saw anybody on the property. I've heard about a rear defroster issue that causes hot spots and the glass to weaken over time. I'm assuming that since I park in direct sunlight and the weather has been hotter lately the change in temperature throughout the day and the direct sunlight finally caused it to shatter. Thankfully nobody was in the car when the glass shattered and I wasn't driving at the time. On [XXX] at about [XXX] , I was sitting in the driver seat of my 2023 HR-V and the rear windshield exploded and shattered. I was stunned due to the loud noise, much like a gun being fired near my ears and head. After turning head to look to see what caused this event, I did not see any other persons or vehicles near my vehicle. I contacted Honda for road side assistance since the car had less than 36,000 miles. The car has about 33-34000 miles. Honda arranged for vehicle to be towed to Baierl Honda in Wexford PA. I was forced to rent a car to return home, since I was about 70 miles from home. On Monday, [XXX], John from Honda service called me to say Honda has no availability for a loaner vehicle and he needed a few days to look into damage to rear windshield. My auto insurance rep state that I could file a claim to self pay for windshield replacement and to cover auto rental for 10 days. Insurance rep spoke with John of Honda service to determine no of days to cover rental. Auto insurance rep stated GEICO will not pay for Baierl Honda to repair rear windshield and will only pay Safelite glass repair. John stated he needed a few days to investigate damage to vehicle. It is [XXX], and I don’t know if Honda will repair rear windshield. This is a known safety issue with Honda and Acura, windshields and auto glass explodes and shatters. I was driving to work in my 2023 HR-V on a main highway this morning, (5-15-2024) and I heard a pop sound. I looked in my rear view mirror and my back windshield was shattered. I have called my local dealer, White Plains Honda and left a message. And as of yet have not heard back. There was no warning lights or signs anything was wrong. I did see on the evening news that this is an on going issue with HR-V's. But no recall has been put out.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximate 65 MPH, the steering wheel was jerking and was sticking. The contact stated that her husband had to forcibly hold the steering wheel. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that when the failure first occurred, the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for a diagnostic test or repair. The contact thought that the failure was related to the Lane Keep Assist feature; however, the failure persisted, and the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the cause of the failure was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic test cost; however, the contact had the technician check all the safety features to be sure the features were operating correctly. The vehicle was then taken to Bud Clary Honda of Moses Lake (1200 S Pioneer Way suite a, Moses Lake, WA 98837) where the failure was diagnosed as an EPS gear box malfunction. The contact was informed that the EPS gear box needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired because the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

The rear window shattered with no impact or nothing even touching it. Luckily I was parked when it happened but there’s no explanation other than the multiple news articles about this being a known issue with the defroster and rear glass. I contacted my dealer and Honda directly, they both say they know nothing about it. I do have security video of it happening.

The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there were no signs of an impact that could have caused the damage to the windshield. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

After getting into the driver seat and closing the car door, the rear windshield shattered for no apparent reason.

Almost all advanced safety features have stopped working including the ones selected and still others more such as lane keep assist, parking collision warning etc.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling at a stop light, the rear windshield exploded, causing a large hole near the top of the windshield on the driver's side, eventually causing additional fractures throughout the windshield. The failure occurred with no impact to the vehicle. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was common. The dealer diagnosed that the windshield needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

I drove the 2023 Honda HR-V to pick up my teen son from school (about 20 min drive one way) around 4:30pm. It was January 2024, so it was cold. He has his learner's permit, so he drove home. We parked the vehicle in the driveway and walked into the house. Just as we entered the front door, I heard what sounded like a minor car accident (fender bender/glass breaking). I walked back out the front door to see what happened but there were no cars in the street. I thought it was strange, but assumed the sound must have been glass breaking from something else besides a car wreck and went back inside. (View of the HRV was obstructed from where I was when I went back to look.) We came back outside a few hours later to drive the car to soccer practice and that's when we noticed the back window of the HR-V had completely shattered. By this time it was dark outside so it was hard to see. We quickly changed to my vehicle to get my son to practice and my husband cleaned up the glass on the HR-V (the car that will be my son's when he turns 16). He did not think to take any pictures. But where the window once was, there was one large gaping hole and then fragments of shattered glass around the edges still in the frame of the back window opening, then shattered bits of glass all over inside the vehicle and on the ground. Back in mid January, there was a winter storm in our area that hit overnight. Mild snow, but predominantly ice. Heading into work the next morning, I needed to use my defroster (both front and rear) to allow visibility with my windshields. I was able the clear the ice off my window and arrived safely to work. 8 hours later I headed home and again there was still some ice on my rear-windshield which prompted the use of my rear defroster. On my way home (less than 15mins from work) I did not notice any changes in visibility. Once I arrived home, I discovered that my entire rear-windshield was uniformly shattered, still intact, but shattered. Seems as though my window shattered sometime during the work day. The next day I went to my dealership as my car is still under warranty and had only been purchased less than 15 months prior. The service advisor informed me there was nothing they could do for me. Informed them of my research, as I was not the only 2023 Honda HR-V with this issue and stated that this was something that needed to be addressed by them or American Honda. At the start of February I got a response from the service advisor that my case was approved at the district level, but there were no windows available. Unrelated to the window, I was in a separate accident which prompted removal of my broken window to fix the body. I pulled my car into my driveway on April 22, 2024 and got out of the car to assist my husband with his walker. We heard a big BANG at the back of the car. When we walked behind the car we found that the rear window had completely shattered. It had been raining and we had the reat window defogger running in the car. If this had happened while the car was moving it could have caused an accident with all of the glass falling out onto the road and endangering the cars behind me. I have called Safelite to come to my house to replace the glass as I don't feel safe driving the car like this.

The rear windshield spontaneously shattered. It was in the late evening and I had put on the rear defogger. It made a loud sound. My infant daughter and toddler son were in the backseat when it happened. I contacted American Honda (Corporate) and reported it as I read online that hundreds of HR-Vs are having this issue due to the rear defogger. The Honda dealer inspected it and they ordered the part and will be replacing it. We had to pay for a rental car in the meantime, which I didn't feel I should have to pay for since it's a car defect. But corporate said it should be covered under my warranty (I lease the car). There were no warning messages or anything to know this was going to happen. This sounds like the beginning of a recall that needs to be put on HR-Vs immediately.

While driving, with my rear defrost on, my rear window shattered. It was loud, and very scary. I’m glad my kids weren’t in the backseat. Brought it straight to my local Honda dealership where my vehicle was purchased and was surprised to hear they knew of the issue but no recall had been issued.

The steering wheel keeps clicking, feels stiff, and hard to move while driving. I felt unsafe driving my vehicle so I took it to the dealership and they said my steering gear box was the problem. The dealership said there weren't any recalls for the steering gear box and that there was 6 other 2023 honda hrv with the same problem. They said they could order a part for $3000 but because the part is on back order they don't know when my car will be fixed. No warning lights came on.

Rear hatch window exploded on Jan 12th, 2024. Honda claims its related to the rear defroster in use or improper installation where the adhesive used comes in contact with the heating elements causing a hot spot in the glass thus exploding. The window was replaced on April 12th, 2024. The issue I have is Honda is NOT guaranteeing the replacement and just stating the warranty of 3 years / 36,000 miles. I waited 3 months for "the fix" and no guarantee? I will discuss further with the dealership.

Rear windshield shattered due to windshield defroster and have not received a recall notice. Safety of driver and other can be at risk, as once shattered, cannot drive at normal speed affecting others nearby and, depending on wind speed, glass continuously falls off and can even fly forward to passengers until it's been replaced. Honda is aware of this issue, but has yet to issue a recall. The vehicle has not been addressed by anyone other than Auto Glass Now, who installed new rear windshield. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptom of the issue prior to the shatter. No police report was submitted, as no vehicles or objects were obstructed at the time the event occurred. I was simply able to pull over.

The steering wheel "sticks". Lane control is off and when driving and making any slight adjustments or beginning to turn, you have to break a slight sticking of the wheel. When stopped the steering wheel does not stick

I was driving and the back glass on my HRV shattered. It was pouring rain and I had been running my rear defrost and wipers and I heard a loud pop and there was glass everywhere.

My rear Window completely shattered, the car was on and in a complete stop. No trauma no force, it randomly just broke. It is now in the shop, estimating to be in the shop for about a month because of back order parts.

Was driving at a regular route, about 50mph and was using only front windshield defroster at the time because the weather was cold and the entire rear windshield shattered suddenly and made a whole on the left side I had my toddler in her car seat and thankfully she wasn't injured. Looked up online after the fact and found several exact incidents in this same model and year vehicle

MY BACK WINSHIELD EXPLODED no rocks hited no cars around me just exploded

Car was bought in November/December 2022. Honda was experiencing supply chain issues so had to wait to get a new 2023 model. Around November 2023, the rear windshield glass exploted and shuttered. At first I was told by Honda that they have never heard of that issue; but when I told them that I went to Google and the same situation is happening all over USA, then they said, yes, we know about the problem on this model. They fixed at no cost to me and they provided a rental car as well. I told them that prior to the explosion there was a strong burning smell - later they told me there was probably fumes leaking from the rear windshield glass that was about to explode. In addition, this new car has had a recall (something about the driver's safety belt) and I also mentioned that the steering wheel makes a noise when it goes left or right... the steering wheel feel heavy too. I was then told that that is another issue that certain Honda models are also experiencing. To repair that it will take 6 months for the replacement part to come from Asia so they were not sure if I was able to just keep driving the car (safely) after I made the decision for them to order the part OR I needed to leave my car in their dealer for the length of time until the part arrived. Too many things are happening with the new car... I just want to get a replacement vehicle.

Rear windshield shattered while driving with rear defroster on

My rear windshield on a 2023 Honda HRV just exploded. My car was parked in the driveway, when we suddenly heard a loud sound with a shatter, the center of the windshield was all shattered into pieces. We are currently dealing with the dealership on this matter.

I was driving home march 15th at 8:23 pm and turned off the rear defroster and then the back glass exploded, sounded like a m80 going off in the car, took car to my honda dealer and was told no glass is covered by the warranty, the service manager inspected the glass on monday and called me and said that honda will do a one time goodwill claim, they ordered the glass, the next day they called me again and told me the back glass is back ordered till May but they could have an after market glass install the next day, so i had them install the aftermarket glass, i mean who can wait 6 weeks for a glass, I need the car. Im not happy that they put a none original glass in a new car

My rear window shattered after prolonged use of the rear defroster. It was raining in California very heavily in January 2024. I had been using my rear defroster for a long period of time. On [XXX], I got into my car and as soon as I closed the door the windshield shattered and sprayed glass on the inside of my car and all over my driveway. Steering on my 2023 Honda hrv sport is trouble. While driving the car it pulls to the left and you have to hold the steering wheel tight with two hands to keep for having an accident. Honda dealer won’t fix the problem

Steering is very sticky electric steering box problem

The car feels like the lane assist is on when its not. When you try to steer it jerks instead of smoothly turning especially on the highway when steering to the left. I feel it’s getting worse.

The rear windshield shattered while driving in I95. The road was smooth and I did not hit a pot hole. It randomly made a loud sound and the rear windshield fell apart while driving. I tried uploading 5 pictures but it keeps saying upload failed.
