My 2018 Honda CR-V has only 100,000 miles. A week ago, I noticed that my engine temperature gauge on my dashboard was spiking during low speed driving and I received several engine overheating alarms. There was no white smoke emitting from my exhaust. I checked the coolant reservoir and observed that the reservoir was almost empty. I brought my vehicle to my mechanic who found no external coolant leaks. He recommended that I bring my vehicle to a Honda service center to better diagnose the issue. The Honda service center diagnosed the issue as a head gasket failure, causing coolant to leak into my cylinders and burn off in the engine. This issue resulted in the engine overheating and could likely cause engine seizing, or in extreme cases, the engine to catch fire. This is a known issue for 2017-2022 Honda CR-Vs with the 1.5L turbocharged engine. My wife and I could have seriously been injured by this known defect. In addition, the Honda service center provided me a quote of approximately $5,000 to replace the head gasket and resurface the cylinders. A lawsuit was filed in 2025 in California documenting the same issue on many 2017-2022 Honda CR-Vs (Alcantara, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., et al., Case No. 2:25-cv-06009). A recall should immediately be issued for Honda to cover repairs for this issue.

The 2017 to 2022 Honda CR-V are lemons in my opinion. I bought the car new in 2018 and it has 79,000 miles on it. I recently had to have my head gasket replaced at a cost of $4,000. This seems to be a big problem with these years. I am in two different Honda CR-V blogs and a lot of people are having this same problem. I am [XXX] and I was hoping this would be my last car to buy. I like the car but I am concerned that it might happen again. I understand there are a few class action law suits for the deficiencies in these engines. Please let me know what I should do. Or if there is something that you can help me with. Thank you, [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On March 30, 2026, a safety issue was documented regarding a 2018 Honda CR-V currently located at Crash Champions collision center. The driver-side steering wheel airbag module is entirely missing from the vehicle due to a physical loss/theft, rendering the supplemental restraint system (SRS) completely non-functional and leaving the vehicle unrepairable due to an indefinite OEM manufacturer backorder. Operating this vehicle without a primary steering wheel airbag leaves the driver completely unprotected by safety restraints in a frontal collision, posing an immediate, life-threatening hazard. This critical safety issue, along with the total lack of replacement part availability, has been officially confirmed and documented by Crash Champions, where the vehicle has been grounded for three consecutive months. Additionally, a State Farm insurance representative has physically inspected the vehicle and opened formal comprehensive repair claim #[XXX]. There were no warning lamps or symptoms prior to the incident, as this represents a total physical loss of the component; however, the dashboard SRS/Airbag warning light is now actively illuminated due to the missing module. Widespread manufacturer supply-chain backorders on these critical safety components prevent the vehicle from being returned to a crashworthy condition, leaving it indefinitely inoperable from a safety standpoint. Power and began running rough. The check engine light illuminated, and the vehicle did not perform normally. I previously had the vehicle diagnosed and repaired at a Honda dealership for this same issue. The repair was completed less than two months ago. After only a few thousand miles since the repair, the exact same symptoms returned, including the check engine light, rough engine operation, and loss of power while driving. The recurrence of this issue raises concerns about the reliability and safety of the vehicle, particularly when operating in traffic or at highway speeds, as sudden loss of power could increase the risk of a crash. The problem appears to be the same issue that was previously repaired, but it reoccurred shortly after the repair was completed.

At highway speeds the steering intermittently sticks at center and then releases suddenly. It feels unsafe and causes me to oversteer to correct causing chance to run off the road. This matches the known EPS rack binding issue on 2017–2019 CR‑Vs. I have had diagnostic performed at Honda of Marysville on 6/12/26 and they responded with confirmation of the problem and agreed to escalate to Honda for goodwill repair, for safety concern. Honda OF Marysville responded on 6/15/26 that Honda Corporate declined goodwill coverage. Called Honda Corporate on 6/15/26 at 415p. Talked with Alec. Explained situation. Calling to File an appeal for goodwill coverage. 1. Dealer confirmed problem 2. Dealer applied for Goodwill coverage. Declined 3. Known safety problem and is under an SB 18-103 which applies to 2017-2019 CRV vehicles 4. Had problem for 2+ years. Getting worse per last trip on highway to Michigan [XXX]. Honda 2018 CRV VIN [XXX]. Car was brought to Honda dealer due to smoking issue from exhaust directly after fuel pump recall. Work was done at Napleton Honda that was under direction from America Honda to replace the head gasket for no engine codes were found and engine light was not on. CRV head gasket was replaced for $6,000 and still smoke was coming from exhaust. Returned the vehicle to Napleton Honda dealer and America Honda then claims issue is a Turbo issue and that is what is causing the smoking for another $5,500 they can swap that part too. I expect America Honda will recommend next the rear-view mirror will need to be replaced for that is how we are seeing the smoke from the exhaust. The Dealer is under direction from America Honda on what to replace and they have failed to fix the issue. Multiple websites reference that the recalled fuel pump is causing engine trouble like fuel gasket and turbo which America Honda knows for that is what they are recommend being replaced so far. If you do some discovery on this, you will also see there are several class-action lawsuits on this same issue in the US and several other countries. The steering wheel sticks and requires force to move it back to center. When driving on the highway, a small curve is enough to let the steering wheel stick, requiring pressure to move it back to center. In the process, over-correcting occurs due to force being applied by my hands, which requires steering back and forth to settle in the center. Very unsafe.

Steering wheel sticks when driving. Seems like I am always having to correct to stay in lane. It is available for an inspection. I am always afraid it won’t go back to center of the lane to drive and will Continue into the passing lane. I called a dealership and they said that my VIN # is not one that was recalled. No one there has inspected it, and there are no warning lamps. The car was driven from PA to SC in March. After that it just recently started this with the steering. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

On February 26, 2026, at approximately 3:59 PM, the driver was traveling northbound on Yukon Territory Avenue in Manteca, CA at approximately 30 mph when the vehicle experienced a sudden brake failure. The driver attempted to pull over to the east curb of Yukon Territory Avenue but the vehicle inadvertently jumped the curb and collided with a city fire hydrant. Airbags deployed. The vehicle continued northbound and struck a city street light pole before stopping. No injuries were reported. The incident is consistent with the known NHTSA Engineering Analysis (opened February 2022, upgraded April 2024) covering 2017-2022 Honda CR-V vehicles for unexpected and unintended activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) causing sudden rapid deceleration without warning. This complaint is being filed to add to the existing federal record of 1,294 complaints already documented under this investigation.

2018 Honda CR-V had another phantom braking event this morning. While traveling on a local 4-lane road with 45-mph speed limit, the collision mitigation braking system activated with an actual hazard present and brought the vehicle to a complete stop, nearly resulting in a series read-end collision from the traffic behind the car. This created an immediate safety hazard and could have easily resulted in injuries or fatalities. The vehicle has experienced recurring phantom braking events and false activations of the emergency braking system. Because this has happened multiple times, we no longer have confidence that the system will behave predictably in normal driving conditions.

My local Honda dealership inspected my CRV on 6.3.26 after my complaint of "sticky steering." They said the steering gearbox needs to be replaced at a cost of $4,000 +. Some CRVs (1.7 million) have been recalled for this, but my VIN number is not included. The mileage on this vehicle is 62,973. I am afraid to drive this vehicle because the steering is unreliable. I have to transport my husband to cancer doctor appointments and treatments as well as transporting my granddaughter when she is in my care. There were no warning lights, I just noticed that the steering was behaving erratically. I have contacted Honda Care and received a case number: 16405358

My wife and I spent the past 10 days putting approximately 2,300 miles on our 2018 CRV while vacationing. On the first day of our vacation I noticed that the steering wheel would get stuck in a certain position which needed a slight push to unstick the wheel, this occurred after about 600 miles. This stick and unstick process happened every time I needed to make a small adjustment to my steering. It happened about 20 - 30 times a minute. As you can imagine driving for over 28 hours in 10 days I was quite frustrated with this tug of war. Many times this added nudge to turn the wheel would cause an over steer requiring a corrective steer in the opposite direction. This oversteering caused me to swerve within the lane that I was trying to stay within. I called my local dealer to make an appointment, I was told that I could drop the car off in a couple of days and it would take them 2 to 3 to get to it. Once they get to it, it would cost over $100 to diagnose the problem then they can estimate the cost of the repair. I need my car I can't drop it off for 2 or 3 days. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer, the vehicle components have not been inspected by anyone. And there were no warning lamps or messages displayed during this failure.

May 15, 2026 - After driving highway speeds for 2 hours on a road trip, the steering wheel started to stick when trying to make small adjustments driving straight. It seemed like it could only move in notches, not glide smoothly. May 17, 2026 - After driving highway speeds for 1 hour, the same thing started happening again and continued for the remaining 2 hours of the trip. May 29, 2026 - After driving highway speeds for 2.5 hours, the steering wheel started to stick again but this time I could also hear a little clicking noise every time I made a small adjustment to the wheel that moved it into a "notched" position created by the stickiness. The clunky movements of the steering wheel made me nervous driving on narrow curvy roads. I drove 5 hours one way where it started doing this halfway into the trip and 5 hours back home the same day with it sticking & clicking the entire time as I made minor movements of the wheel. It was not isolated to fast speeds; it continued at slow speeds. June 2, 2026 - The rear tires had been replaced 6 months earlier, so we decided to replace the front tires now to see if that would help resolve the issue. June 4, 2026 - After driving highway speeds at 2 hours, the steering wheel started sticking and clicking again. New tires did not fix the problem. Our destination was 2.5 hours from home. We returned home later the same day with the sticking & clicking starting after about an hour and continuing the rest of the way home. There have been no wa

On several occasions, while driving down the road at 55 mph, the car will flash the "BRAKE" indicator on the dash for a brief second and immediately slam on the brakes either to a stop or for a shorter amount of time. This is the third event that happened today just before reporting this problem. Our safety was at risk because there could've been someone behind us that may not have reacted fast enough and could've hit us. After the issue, there were no warning lights of any kind. There was no hazard in the road and no other obscure conditions. Middle of the day, clear skies. It is not possible to reproduce the problem in a timely manner because this has happened randomly three times over the course of two years.

They are not providing me with a loaner car. My car has been unusable for over 6 months which is and the customer service representative suggested that I operate the car without an air bag.

The systems affected with failure notifications were Electric Parking Brake, TPMS, Emissions, Brake, Brake Hold, Power Steering, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Cruise (including regular cruise), Collision Mitigation/Avoidance, Road Departure Mitigation. The stored codes in the vehicle that I was able to read were P0300, P0303, P0304. This failure bears a striking resemblance to that of TSB 21-010, directed at Keihin manufactured fuel injectors, PN: 16010-RLV-315, which was later replaced with updated ...-305 after the failure was determined, and the vehicles were given a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. The CRV had injector PN: 16010-5PA-305, also manufactured by Keihin, which was also later revised to 06160-..., but the CRV was not given the same warranty extension, suggesting Honda acknowledged the same defect pattern across both injector families but chose not to extend equivalent coverage to the CRV. 21-010 also details that debris from the high pressure pump may contribute, and the CRV experienced the same fuel pump recall for low density impellers that these vehicles did. Honda is also obligated under TSB 98-081 to perform emissions services due to OBD inadequacy, which this vehicle experienced. Misfires were felt for months with no CEL. The Norm Reeves Honda parts catalog classifies injectors as emissions components, implying they should be covered. However, a Honda dealer in CA, mandated by CARB and EPA, refused to do the repairs or make any goodw

ALL of the warning lights go off one day, then the very next day it does not happen. This cycle has been happening for almost two straight years of “normal” driving. The vehicle is working totally fine and has never broken down because of this. Two different Honda dealerships told me that it is unsafe to drive and that the fuel injectors need to be replaced, which is a $2,000.00 fix - which is ridiculous! There has to be something else going on to cause ALL of the warning lights to go off, yet the vehicle drives totally fine. It seems to me that this should fall under a “recall.”

To start model Honda CRV 2018 did indeed have a recall in 11/2018 but only for 56 or 57 autos which mine was NOT one. My SUV with only 55k miles has started to have sticking in the steering wheel mechanism/hydraulics/or electrical systems relating to steering for the last 7 - 9 months. I was told by the service person in 04/26 that they would investigate the issue for $250+ bucks and if they needed to repair it the cost would be around $3.5k. I am a senior citizen and I think is exorbitant. Im afraid the steering wheel jerking with eventually cause the SUV to veer out of its own lane into another. The SUV has not been inspected by anyone. There have been no indication lights or other system problems prior to this happening.

A franchised dealership has actively undermined a federal safety mandate, creating an immediate vehicle fire hazard. On [XXX], I took my 2018 Honda CR-V to Bedard Bros Honda in Cheshire, MA, for NHTSA Safety Recall Campaign 23V-858 (Fuel Pump Module). During the service, the dealer identified a cracked fuel pump housing and attempted to charge me a $390 fee to replace it. When I declined this commercial upcharge on a safety recall, the technician reassembled the pressurized fuel system using the broken housing and released the vehicle to me. Prior to this appointment, the vehicle had no fuel leaks or odors. Immediately upon driving the vehicle home and parking it, the vehicle began actively leaking raw gasoline, filling the cabin with toxic, flammable vapors. The dealership’s decision to perform a federal safety recall inside a known broken component, and subsequently release a vehicle with a compromised fuel system to avoid completing a free repair, has created an active fire emergency. The dealer invoice explicitly documents the crack and their attempted charge. I am requesting a formal investigation into this dealership's handling of Campaign 23V-858. I have a 2018 Honda CRV with 52,000 miles. It has a steering problem. The vehicle has to be hot, or be driven for 1 plus hours for the problem to appear. In a few words the problem can be described as: intermittent steering binding sticky steering steering hesitation near center sudden release necessitating overcorrection in opposite direction safely hazard during highway driving I don't know specifically what the problem is but Chat GPT offers these comments: EPS gearbox, worm gear, steering torque sensor, or intermediate shaft malfunction. I have to assume that the problem that plagues my vehicle is related to the known CRV steering rack or EPS issues tied to the newer model recalls. I have not asked a Honda dealer to diagnosis the issue and provide an estimate for repair, but plan to shortly. Otherwise, this vehicle is in excellent condition, has had proper maintenance and care. I have called a local Honda dealer to inquire about a recall and was told there is no recall on this issue for my car year. There is however a recall for steering issues on 2023, 24, 25 year cars. Vehicle experiences intermittent steering sticking/catching while turning. In March 2026, an independent repair facility verified the steering concern and documented: “Technician found Rack and Pinion will lock when manually turning.” The technician also referenced Honda Technical Service Bulletin / Safety Recall 18-103 regarding the 2017–2018 Honda CR-V EPS gearbox and recommended steering rack replacement. Immediately afterward in March 2026, the vehicle was inspected by Honda after the steering concern was reported, and no steering gearbox issue was identified at that time. Now, in May 2026, Honda is diagnosing the EPS steering rack/gearbox assembly and recommending replacement at an estimated cost of approximately $5,000. Although this VIN was reportedly not included in the original recall population, the vehicle is exhibiting steering symptoms substantially similar to the defect described in Honda’s EPS gearbox recall documentation. Because this condition affects steering responsiveness and safe vehicle control, and appears to be progressively worsening, we are requesting investigation into whether similar EPS steering defects may exist outside the originally identified VIN range.

We brought the car to the dealer yesterday (where we bought it in Jan 2021), to have the air conditioning fixed. They told us they found rust on the frame and that it would not pass inspection again. It had been inspected there in February, 2026. At that time, we told them about a vibration and they said it was ice build up. But yesterday, they told us the linkage in the driveshaft needs to be replaced. So there are two safety issues: frame rust on an 8 year old vehicle and a faulty driveshaft.

While driving home during rush hour traffic on the highway with my children in the vehicle, without warning it stopped accelerating when I passed the gas pedal and started slowing down. When I let go of the gas pedal it would speed back up. I couldn't safely merge over to the right with heavy traffic and ended up on the left shoulder. I turned the vehicle off and tried to restart it, it struggled to start, but when I let go of the key it would turn over. The brake system lights and check engine light were illuminated after the incident, but not during. The code was for p0087 and honda service confirmed it's a failed high pressure fuel pump, but it's not under the recall so the repair isn't covered. I'm extremely lucky to have gotten to the side of the road without causing an accident. I was not driving my normal route that day, but if i had been this would have happened on a stretch of the highway that's under construction where there was no shoulder to pull onto. So if I'd have gone a different way home that day, we'd have most certainly been involved in a collision. They've anyway Texans the low pressure fuel pump but these high pressure ones are just as dangerous when they fail, even more so!

I have researched this issue and found that Honda has acknowledged two known defects related to this problem through Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-091 (AC condenser manufactured out of specification, causing refrigerant leaks) and TSB 23-040 (AC compressor shaft seal defect causing refrigerant and oil leaks). Honda extended the warranty on these components to 10 years with no mileage limit, however no formal safety recall has been issued and owners are not proactively notified. This is a recurring defect affecting thousands of CR-V owners across multiple model years (2017–2022). I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this pattern and compel Honda to issue a formal recall so that all affected owners are automatically notified and repaired at no cost, rather than requiring owners to discover the warranty extension themselves.

Sticky steering, steering feels like it is catching or bumping, worse at high speeds

When turning on gradual curves at highway speeds the steering sticks then suddenly releases resulting in the need to correct the steering in the opposite direction rapidly. This could cause the driver to over-correct the steering leading to a potential accident. From what I understand, Honda is recommending a full steering rack replacement which is estimated between $3k-$5k+. Serious issue.

My body control module (BCM) seems to have failed on my 2018 Honda CRV, my first indication was my alarm going off and me being unable to enter my vehicle with my key fob. Once I manually unlocked the car with the embedded key inside the key fob, I was unable to turn off my instrument cluster or lights by hitting the start switch of the car. I then turned on the car and was unable to turn off the car. My instrument cluster reported a key fob error. I replaced my batteries in both my key fobs, and that did not fix the problem. The only way I was able to turn off my vehicle was by disconnecting the battery and removing a relay to force it to turn off. Apparently, this is a known issue, and according to many online forums, there are many people experiencing this exact issue yet there has not been a recall to address this so the cost has been placed on the consumer. My car is currently at the dealership pending a $1000 plus repair where I believe this repair should be covered by Honda in a safety recall.

After the low-pressure fuel pump recall repair was performed on my 2018 Honda CR-V at Doggett Honda Med Center on March 6, 2026, the vehicle began experiencing a serious and repeated loss-of-power condition. The vehicle suddenly loses power without warning. This happens with no clear pattern, at highway speeds and also at low speeds. The engine does not shut off, but the vehicle loses the ability to accelerate normally. In some situations, it does not have enough power to safely reach the shoulder, leaving me exposed in traffic. This has now happened multiple times and has become more frequent. I have already narrowly avoided at least three serious rear-end collisions while trying to move the vehicle out of traffic. Yesterday, the vehicle lost power again and a police unit had to escort me so I could safely move the vehicle to the side. When I turn the vehicle off and restart it, it temporarily returns to normal, but the problem keeps coming back. This makes the vehicle unsafe and unreliable for normal use. The vehicle is my work vehicle, and I depend on it for transportation. I am now unable to work normally or travel safely because I do not know when the vehicle will suddenly lose power again. This condition places my life and the lives of my passengers at risk. I contacted both the dealership and American Honda Corporate. However, my safety concern has been minimized, and I was told that I would have to pay for diagnosis, even though this problem began after Honda performe

My 2018 Honda CR-V LX (approx. 40,920 miles) has an electric power steering (EPS) rack that sticks and catches at highway speeds, typically above 35 mph. The steering wheel requires extra force to turn, then suddenly releases, creating a snap/lurch effect. This behavior poses a significant overcorrection risk during highway lane changes and gradual curves. There were no warning lights or messages prior to or during the problem. The issue presented gradually and has been consistent above the noted speed threshold. A Honda dealership diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed the fault. Their process included a test drive to reproduce the sticking, reproduction while stationary, and further confirmation with the vehicle lifted — turning the steering wheel by hand with the wheels off the ground. In that condition, the technician heard and identified clicking and popping from inside the rack, isolating the fault to the EPS rack assembly itself. The dealer's written recommendation is replacement of the EPS rack at a cost of $3,917.31 plus tax. The component is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or the manufacturer beyond the dealership visit described above. I am aware that NHTSA has previously investigated EPS gearbox faults on related Honda platforms involving worm gear/worm wheel defects, and that TSB 23-037 was issued for 2022–23 Civics describing an identical symptom. I believe my 2018 CR-V is affected by t

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
