2018 Honda CR-V complaints

Driving at a speed of approximately 30-35 mph over a railroad track, the automatic emergency braking system was erroneously triggered. The vehicle came to an extremely abrupt stop in the middle of the railroad track. The vehicle behind us proceeded to rear-ended us. This is the second time the vehicle has stopped abruptly at a railroad track. The warning messages only appeared at the exact same moment the car stopped, not providing any warning as to what was about to happen. I'm awaiting an appointment for the car to be seen by the dealership for the AEB system, but because this caused a collision I filed a claim on my insurance and the car had to be repaired. This was a safety issue for multiple reasons, including that it caused injury for both the driver and the passenger. It also was a safety issue because it occurred on a railroad track and if the car had not been drivable, or if we had been incapacitated, we could have been killed by the train.

Every component was flashing malfunctioning.WILL be taking it to dealer tomorrow.

Warning lights for multiple (possibly all) systems begin appearing and all ADAS including traction control is deactivated. The condition clears eventually in its own after fuel up, possibly several days later. Dealership attributes conditions to bad fuel injector with no other fuel related symptoms because the condition includes and engine code for either a faulty fuel injector or fault AC control module.

While driving (road trip 500 miles round trip), all the dashboard lights turned with no real indication of what the issues was. I pulled over to see if there was anything noticeable and did not see anything exteriorly nor once I opened the hood of the car. I continued my drive home (remaining 100 miles or so) and once I parked my car in driveway, I noticed a strong smell with black smoke coming from exhaust pipe with black oil at the end of my tailpipes. My car is currently at dealers getting looked at and they recommended changing my fuel injector and spark plugs, which they completed ($2,000) and I AM STILL having issues.!!! Doing my research online I noticed that there was a recall of this vehicle in China but not in the US, which is unacceptable. Something needs to be done ASAP!

Auto accident drive side struck guardrail driver's head hit side window then airbag deployed trapping driver's head between the airbag and door window.

I recently bought a 2018 Honda crv and have had ongoing issues with the touch display going on and off by itself. I took a video of it. It will randomly start blinking and beeping changing the brightness on the display. There is no way to shut it off or stop it without turning off the vehicle. I have also had issues with the automatic braking system. It is braking when it should not be. It has happened to me twice on the freeway now and once in town thankfully no one was behind me, or I would've been rearended badly and possibly been flipped in my vehicle. I was going 75 miles per hour, and it started flashing brake and then braked for no reason there was nobody in front of me. Another time it said I was skidding but I was not until it braked than I began to skid at which point it did nothing to stop the skid. I have recently skid on ice, in town and it did not do anything to stop it, nor did it respond. I have not taken the vehicle in yet. I was researching the issues to see if they were known issues with my vehicle. To my dismay they are. I bought this vehicle due to its safety features as I have my grandkids with me frequently. My Audi did not have the winter safety features I needed.

While driving at about 53 mph on the highway, the collision braking system suddenly beeped, and the ”BRAKE” indicator on the dashboard came on by itself. There was no car in front of me for at least 100 feet, nor was there any car on the sides. It was a false positive. While the brake was not otherwise activated, and the car did not stop, it was quite disconcerting. This should be checked out. It was a clear evening, around 8pm.

I had buckled in my seat belt, and then started my car. The “seat belt unfastened” indicator turned off. After driving a few yards, the seat belt spontaneously popped out of its socket. The seat belt warning light and alert sound then turned on and I stopped and clicked my seat belt back in the socket. It appears that I may not have “clicked” my seat belt into the socket the first time. There may be a defect here with the seat belt warning light. If the seat belt “male” makes sufficient contact with the seat belt “female”, the warning light turns off. But really, the warning light should only go off if the male clicks and locks into the female.

This has happened about 3 times since I purchased the vehicle in end of 2018. While I was driving out of no where the car will just brake, there is nothing in front of me or blocking me and one time I was going about 40 mph and the others were when I was going about 30 and 50 so it’s been a range. Luckily every time I’ve been driving there has not been anyone behind me but for sure if someone was behind me, I possibly would’ve gotten rear ended with how fast the car stopped. Other times the car will beep the brake indicator at me, but not stop the car just telling me I need to apply the brakes but there’s nothing in front of me or around me.

I have a 2018 Honda CR-V touring , with a 1.5 turbo engine. It seems that as my oil usage (Mileage) increases, between oil changes, I have been losing Miles per Gallon. After an oil change my MPG is around 34 to 35 MPG. My car now is at 60% oil usage before an oil change is needed. I am due for an oil change now. The last oil change the mechanic noticed there was a thinning of the oil and the smell of gas in the oil was present, as well as the oil quantity was higher. We assumed the higher oil quantity is due to gas in the oil.

I was going through an intersection on my way home when the CRV suddenly applied significant braking force, flashed the BRAKE message on the dash display, and abruptly slowed the vehicle down. Thankfully there was no other vehicles behind me or there likely would have been a collision. There were no other vehicles in front of me. I can't recall the exact details of what other vehicles may have been around, but there was definitely no reason to be slamming on the brakes. This incident occurred at roughly 11:30am EST on a clear day with sun shining. This is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

The car does not get up to operating temperature at idle during cold climates. If the car is started and left to idle and warm up, the heat will not blow and the front window will not defrost. If the car is driven on short trips through town, it will not heat up at all. Also, if the car is driven around and gets up to operating temperature and then left to idle, the car's temperature will slowly edge down and cause no heat to blow from the vents. I have brought the car in to the dealer twice for the same issue only for them to tell me that this is a normal characteristic of the car and that nothing is wrong. I have never had this issue on any other vehicle. Additionally, the car suffers from oil dilution in the engine which cases poor performance and thinned oil. The oil level gradually increases over time after being driven because of gasoline entering the engine oil. I believe that this will eventually lead to premature wear in my engine.

My 2018 Honda CRV has flashed BRAKE on dashboard about 8 times since the last 2-1/2 years. Please note that the vehicle never actually stopped. On November 20, 2022 it even beeped for the first time. And of course all of the 8 or so times that the BREAK appeared on my dashboard, there was no one or anything in front of the vehicle. I took vehicle to Honda of Essex NJ on 11/21/2022 and according to the tech the radar was misaligned (but who knows) I was told to pay a diagnostic fee of $174.19. I have not been in any accident, nor have bumped into anything since I’ve owned the vehicle. I am also aware of the CNN article dated 02/24/2022 involving the same issue and is under investigation by NHTSA. I tried to get reimbursement of the $174.19 from Honda USA but because vehicle is no longer under warranty, I’ve been denied. This is a major safety issue and hoping it will become a recall. Sep 25, 2022, en route from Columbus, OH to WV our 2018 Honda CRV started flashing a plethora of warnings regarding braking problems, blind spot failure, lane assist failure, collision mitigation failure, and many other driver assistance failures. We pulled off the interstate, into a service station, at the nearest exit. Once the car was stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic emergency brake would not release. We had the car towed to the local Honda dealership in Zanesville, OH. On Oct 3, 2022 the Zanesville dealership contacted us to pick up the car; they had replaced a wiring harness and control module over the rear view mirror. They said the wiring had “melted”; they said they did not have the expertise to resolve all the warnings but that the car could be driven. We picked up the car on Oct 8, 2022. Within 20 miles, the car was not only flashing warnings but also constantly beeping. We made it to Bruceton Mills, WV before stopping for gas. Again, once stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic parking brake refused to release. The car was towed to the I-79 Honda dealership in Morgantown,WV. That dealership has master electronic technicians. That was 2 months ago and the car is STILL there. The dealership has been in contact with Honda, Inc but they simply cannot resolve the electrical problems and are awaiting a Honda field technician to troubleshoot. Complaint I was traveling southbound on Sunnybrook where it turns to W. Amherst around 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning, November 23rd. I was prepared to slow down for the traffic light since I have been to that location so many times. My speed was between 30-35mph. Surprisingly, there was no resistance when I stepped on the brake. I released the brake and stepped on it again. It still didn’t work. My car started sliding and wavering and it hit the right-side curb. It didn’t stop after hitting the curb and I repeated the step-and-release action a couple of times. After the brake failed, I pulled up the parking brake and my car eventually stopped. The brake failed. Luckily, there was no car in the intersection while my car was out of control and sliding. I was in total shock and desperate fear. I was afraid I was going to crash or even worse situation. That extreme short time of emotional rollercoaster was super distressing and I don’t feel safe driving after the accident. I felt even more horrified thinking what could have happened if there were other drivers or pedestrians involved. I was in tears and all shaking. There is a police report for the accident. The police office also stated that “ was able to easily push the brake pedal to the floor”. One more note is that my car past the state inspection on November 17th. I'm driving on the highway approx 70-75mph. as I am slowing down and moving over to the exit ramp all of a sudden the automatic emergency braking system starts braking! This almost caused a rear end collision from the car behind me. He had to swerve a little to miss me. He was pretty angry and most likely thought it was my intention to brake that hard. It was extremely frightening and I am wondering if I should just turn off this safety feature until Honda figures this out?

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who calibrated the brakes. While driving, the brake warning light illuminated. The driver depressed the brake pedal and the warning light turned off. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who informed her that the brake calibration was working as designed. The contact stated she turned off the automatic braking feature. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000. The VIN was not available.

Car starting throwing all error codes at once. No issues driving, took to mechanic, could not find any issues. Did this 3 times, was advised to see Honda dealer for possible computer system update. Honda said it needs all fuel injectors and fuel joint pipe replaced, due to clogged injectors. No indication of this problem, no fuel loss or engine issues. This is a 2018 with 60,000 miles. Have looked this issue up, found that it is a known issue with Honda. They will not warranty the fix, wanting to charge $1723.08 to correct.

Turn my car on and every light on my car is currently flashing saying nothing safety wise is working. Googled it and it seems to be a major problem that Honda isn’t fixing.

On December 1, 2022, I was driving my 2018 Honda CRV on an expressway at 45-50 mph when the car's automatic braking system activated the brakes unexpectedly while the vehicle was moving forward. I was driving in the middle lane on an expressway with nothing close in front of me and it happened without reason or warning. My passenger and I were lurched forward. Fortunately, no one was driving close behind me. The dealer has not been notified at the time of writing this complaint.

On 11/30/22 my wife was driving at 32 mph with no vehicles in front, when suddenly, CR-V brake warning light flashed and came to a complete stop. Approx. 20 minutes later vehicle did it again but, this time not a complete stop. Concerned about this happening at higher rate of speed and getting rear ended. Called dealer and no recalls. I have read on internet, other drivers having similar experience with these models. This would be the third time in 6 months that it has happened. No warnings prior to incident happening, just flashing brake warning light with tone.

I was in a parking lot leaving from my job in am. Clear weather 65° As I was driving 7mph the car slammed on the brakea if an object or vehicle was in front of me. No advanced warning s. There was nothing in front of me. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me and twice when my son was driving. His speed was approx40mph and the brakes slammed on with nothing crossing or in front of his path. I currently have an appointment at 1030 this am to take to Honda dealership to get an assessment. This is extremely troubling and dangerous. My daughter is driving with her learners permit in this vehicle. Please fix immediately!!!!

The brake light came on , the seatbelt tightened around my neck and the car just came to a stop throwing my neck forward but there was no car in front of me and no cars on the side of me.

Hello NHTS, I have been dealing with my vehicle stalling & losing power while driving on the freeway. This is a very dangerous issue with my Honda CRV. I have had this happen several times now and it was reported to Honda. Honda has not yet placed this issue on recall status. This needs to get looked at before someone gets injured or killed.

The automatic emergency braking system engaged without warning, stopping the car abruptly while I was traveling at 25 + MPH without any hazard ahead and no imminent collision. I was nearly rear ended and have suffered a strain of left thumb which was on steering wheel and will now need to be seen by medical personnel. The Red BRAKE signal came on but the car immediately braked to a dead stop within a second. I am calling the dealer next.

Abs activated on icy road.brakes failed at next attempt to stop on dry road.no brake response at all. Had to go over curb on grass to avoid hitting car in front of me. No brake warning lights came on.scared to drive car. Have grandchildren I drive to school. Their safety and those of others concern me if this should occur again. Driving on a highway at approximately 50 mph at night. No other vehicles in front for a very long distance. Our cars brakes automatically engaged (CMBS system) causing an abrupt stop in the middle of the road. Vehicle behind almost rear-ended us, but did not. Luckily, there was no collision or injuries. Do not trust the CMBS system anymore and disable it when driving now.

I was driving slowly down the street in my 2018 Honda CRV with no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. Suddenly, the Automatic Emergency Braking System engaged and stopped my car. I began driving again and about a minute later the same thing happened again even though there was no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. This is a serious safety issue and I am having my Honda dealer inspect the car.

I was driving around 45-55 MPH and the automatic brake indicator flashed and my car slowed to around 5-10mph. There were no cars in front of me and thankfully no cars behind me. Only one car to the left that was passing. Weather was foggy but could still see clearly about a mile ahead.

I was driving to the ferry in Seattle WA about 6pm PST and crossing railroad tracks on South Holgate Road going west between 3rd and 2nd avenue when the emergency braking systems engaged (phantom braking) and immediately stopped the car on top of the railroad tracks. I was moving at relatively slow speed because of the bumpiness of the railroad tracks. I disengaged the transmission from drive to neutral, put my foot on the brake and was able to get the car moving again. Fortunately the car behind me was able to stop and did not run into me.

All warning lights for all systems go off on dash disabling all systems when driving. this has happened about 15 times in the past 2 years. Never know if the car will react badly when driving due to the warnings. Tried to have dealer look at it but as others have stated in blogs, suddenly goes off the day before you have to take it in and can't reproduce it. Dealer laughed a bit as they said they have not seen it before even though there are hundreds of people online complaining about it since 2017. Showed them video, pictures, etc. They have checked the car over, reloaded software, etc. couldn't find anything wrong or any error codes. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE I BOUGHT IT. At 10k miles, dash started flashing, beeping and wouldn't stop. Had to pull off hwy and restart to get it to go away. Dash goes blank, radio won't work, Sirius XM is not on when I get in car 3 out of 7 days a week. overnight switches to AM. I never listen to AM. Read the blogs and so many people are experiencing this with no resolution or response from Honda Corp.

3 incidences of random braking & car suddenly slowing from AEB when riding down roadway & highway. There was no reason because nothing in front of vehicle & no Speeding. It could have resulted in a car hitting me in rear.

AEB has engaged suddenly multiple times, most recently today, without any risk of collision in front of the vehicle causing extreme hard stops. It has happen both while braking and accelerating causing accelerator to slam to the floor as the braking was unexpected.

My vehicle computer started indicating that there was a critical brake failure and other related safety issues, this started after a brake repair at Middletown Honda. I returned to the dealer and they indicated that it’s the fuel injectors misfiring and need replacement. They also indicated that the spark plugs need replacement. I gave approval to replace the spark plugs and the vehicle ran well until I added fuel to the vehicle. then the problem returned. There’s currently a recall on Honda models 2014-2016 for the fuel injectors and I want this vehicle year to be included. Thank you

The Automatic Emergency Breaking system stopped my car two times when traveling over a steel plate in the road that is there during road maintenance.

The contact stated that the garage was damaged. There was no warning light illuminated. The air bags deployed. The contact had pain and swelling to the thumb of his right hand. The contact's wife had pain in the chest but no physical injury. Both the contact and his wife were examined at the scene by emergency units. The contact did not seek further medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle remained in the garage. The homeowner’s insurance and the vehicle insurance provider were notified of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle would be towed in the next couple days. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

On October 10, 2022 I had brake work done and the computer system starting indicating failures. The computer electrical system continues indicating major failures while driving and the messages indicate critical failures throughout the vehicle. The brake fluid was lower than normal and once filled the lights went out. Then on October 20, 2022 the computer began indicating problems once again.

2018 CRV repeatedly had emergency brake amber light go on in the center of the dashboard. It goes on for a few seconds then shuts back off. This has been happening intermittently for the last two months. It has happened in the past(years ago) but there is no documentation of that complaint. Took vehicle to Honda dealership last week. Initially could not find what was wrong. Finally after hours of running tests? It came down to one code and that the issue was the electronic brake booster. The vehicle stayed overnight. After paying a large sum of money, 5 days later, the light turned on amber on the dash again. I called Honda Service repeatedly but could not reach the Service personnel that had assisted me 5 days previously. Finally talked to another service manager last evening at 6:00 p.m. Bringing car in first thing Friday Morning October 21st. One service manager stated that she had not seen this problem before. There are a few incidences that can be found on the internet with what appear to be simple fixes i.e. low brake fluid, air in line, problem with software, problem with a line to the display and still others. The end all was the issue was treated as a safety issue by one ,while another person stated something alluding to if it was a serious safety issue the warning light on the dash would have been red and not amber. While driving with no one around me the vehicle slams on the brakes by itself causing items to slide off seat. other times the collision light engages with no traffic in front or obstruction. afraid to get rear ended on highway as there is no way to tell when this will happen. this has happened multiple times with lite, But first for the emergency braking initiated by the vehicle

About 2 weeks ago on my way home from picking up my son from football practice there were some metal plates on the road where they were doing construction. It was getting dark and when we got to the plates the "brake" light started flashing and beeping then my car automatically slammed on the breaks scaring both of us. Thankfully there wasn't a car behind us or it would have definitely caused a collision. Last night again on my way to pick up my son (on another rd) I was driving and another metal plate and the same incident happened. This time my dog was in the back sleeping and she flew out of the back seat. Brake light going on/off and beeping and SLAMMED on brakes. Praise Him there was no car behind me this time either. The 2nd was worse than the 1st. I bought my CRV new in 2018. Several times all the dash lights come on but eventually they go off and I have problems with the navigation but this is too dangerous to not address. I'm not sure what to do I've no other car. I'm in a big city. Construction is everywhere and I beginning to become fearful to drive. This is too dangerous and I definitely don't anything to happen to anyone. On 3 occasions my CRV has implemented the automatic break system when there is nothing in front of me and no reason to break. Today it happened when traveling 40+ mile an hour and the sudden break caused a near rear collision.

Driving at night, in the mist, approx 40 mph on city roads, my collision system flashed and brakes automatically applied. No obstacles were in front of me, and the nearest car was in the left lane (I was in the right lane), about 50 feet ahead. Four lane divided city road, speed limit 40. Not near an intersection. In the nearly 5 years of ownership, I have experienced about two dozen routine flashes of the warning without cause I could see, but never had the car automatically apply the brakes. It has happened particularly in the mist and dark, when the roads reflect lights. I have also had it happen when descending into the I-664 tunnel in the mist. This is the first instance where the car also applied the brakes.

While driving all of the dash warning lights concerning the Honda Sensing System came on with malfunction warnings. This has happened multiple times since that first occasion but mostly occurs the first time the car is used that day. Sometimes turning the car off and on resets the problem. I have a video of the warning lights, and the malfunction was witnessed by my local mechanic. The dealership looked at the car at a time when the warning lights were not on and couldn't identify anything wrong with the vehicle. They assured me the car is safe to drive, but the Honda Sensing Package is deactivated.

After work I was on my way home. I was stopped at a traffic light when the light turned green. I came off the brake and began to step on the gas when the car stopped suddenly and a "Brake" light showed on my dashboard. There was nothing in front of my car at the time as I was the first in line. After the car stopped suddenly it immediatly started rolling again and I was able to continue driving as normal and got home safely. Thankfully the car behind me did not crash into me. There was no warning/lights/messages before to signal a problem.
