2018 Honda CR-V complaints

All safety lights are showing on dash. This is NOT due to low battery power as it happened before and after replacement. I have reset the infotainment and even disconnected and reconnected the battery. The problem always comes back. I have been to two mechanics and spoken with a Honda dealer. No one has been able to fix the problem. Hill assist, cruise control, awd, and other electronic safety systems no longer work. I have seen multiple discussion boards where Crv owners are experiencing this major safety issue. There needs to be a recall and Honda needs to take ownership of this problem.

While on the highway, the car suddenly slammed on the brakes and stiffened the steering wheel. Was a sunny day, passing under a bridge. There was a dark shadow cast horizontally across the road by the bridge. I turned on my blinker to change lanes. A second vehicle approached quickly from the back left hand side. The car suddenly hit the brakes. If there was a car following closely, we would have been rear ended. If my new-driver son had been driving, it could have resulted in a (further and more dangerous) loss of control. The braking was shocking, unnecessary and dangerous and it happened on a fast, narrow, twisting highway through a city. At a minimum, it seems the owner should have the ability to turn this collision mitigation system off permanently. This system is dangerous in its current state.

I was driving along a road when I was suddenly out of nowhere thrown forward as my car beeped and the automatic breaking system kicked in. There was nothing there! No one was driving in front of me. I now have some whiplash which is really unfortunate and I do not trust my car not doing this again with my 10 month daughter in the car. All Honda CRV’s should be recalled. It’s horrific and dangerous! Had this happened on a motorway we would have had someone coming through our back window!

Both driver and passenger day time running lights have burned out. The Honda CR V has 19000 miles on it. Honda did a recall on the Accords for the same issue, why not the CR V and civic that have the same problem.

The car's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system unexpectedly applied brakes while the vehicle was in motion on the freeway and almost caused a crash.

Honda CR-V 2018. Faulty camshaft. About August 7. While driving I had car act sluggish. Noticed my dashboard lights on. About a few weeks later about Sept 17 my car changed gears on me while driving. Sept 30 2022 had diagnostics done at dealer. I have a text. Per McDavid Honda of Plano TX. “We're done with the diagnostics, your vehicle had an intermediate failure on your Camshaft position sensor.” Avail for inspection. The sensor can cause safety risks as the car stalling while driving. Engine misfire. Transmission shifting issues. Car may not start. Car can jerk forward while driving as a result of an improper amount of fuel being injected into cylinders. Poor acceleration. First appeared in August. Had dealer review on about 8/25/22. Said they fixed it but it wasn’t fixed. 9/30/22 had dealer do diagnostics testing. Again they said it was fixed. It was not fixed. Having dealer look at it again 10/3/22. Warning signs include sensor lights on dashboard: engine light, emission system problem, brake system fail, parking sensor fail, tire pressure system problem, electric parking brake problem, auto high beam problem, road departure system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem, hill start assist problem, vehicle stability problem, power steering system problem, brake hold system problem,

My vehicle activated the brakes hard on its own with no cars close in front of it. This happened twice in the last month. Fortunately, no one was close behind me! I took my car to my local Honda dealership today. They checked it out and reported that the radar cover was dirty and that possibly caused the problem.

On September 21, 2022, was pulling into a parking space at my doctor’s office, had my foot on the brake, and the vehicle accelerated, jumped the curb, and hit a tree. No injuries, no other vehicles, people, or objects involved. Afterwards, the vehicle was driven without incident to the repair shop. Three days before this incident, on September 18th, the brake warning light engaged while I was driving on the freeway. At that time, there were no other vehicles in front of me in my lane. It was an early sunny Sunday morning. I had one other incident during the first year as the owner of this vehicle where the computer screen turned blue and flickered. I had to pull over, turn off my vehicle, wait a few moments, then restart. Everything was fine after that up until this last incident.Vehicle was purchased new, standard maintenance schedule has been followed, and I am the original owner.

Three times now my car has activated the emergency braking system when there was nothing in front of me. Below the speed on the odometer will show an orange "BRAKE" flashing box and it will beep until the car slams on the breaks itself. This has happened when I have been going 40-60 mph and the car behind me is not expecting a harsh breaking since there was nothing in front of me. This has not been inspected by anyone.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that he pulled over and removed the negative battery terminal. The contact stated that after he reconnected the battery the warning lights were no longer illuminated. The contact then stated that days later while driving at an unknown speed, the malfunction indicator lamp and the check emission system warning light illuminated. The vehicle then lost motive power. The contact stated the vehicle was able to restart but would not exceed 5 MPH while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact then pulled over and removed the negative battery terminal. The contact stated that he reconnected the battery and the vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing to replace all fuel injectors. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I was having multiple electrical issues with the car, malfunctioning radio, flashing etc. I had it checked out at Mahwah Honda and they stated no issues. Last week I was in an accident in which my car was deemed totaled. As I was crossing the intersection a car sped through a red light traveling at a high speed hitting my passenger side. This caused the passenger air bags to deploy (I was traveling alone) and the impact caused me to hit another car across the roadway. The driver side air bags did not deploy even though I hit another car. I do not understand why my air bags did not go off and do not recall if the on star worked as well. I do not know if this is all related to the electrical issues I reported which Honda dismissed.

The contact then stated that the same day while his father was driving, the vehicle stalled and was towed back to the dealer where it was then diagnosed that the software needed to be updated however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it remained. The vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the engine need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact left a voicemail however, there was no response. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the braking system erroneously activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the roadway. During the failure, there were no other vehicles or objects nearby to cause the Forward Collision Avoidance Emergency Automatic Braking system to be activated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact stated that a similar failure had previously occurred and the vehicle had erroneously slowed down with the "Brake" message displayed. The cause of the failure was not determined. Multiple times my car has applied emergency brakes on its own with nothing to cause it. Passing a vehicle with my turn signal the car applied brakes and almost caused the car behind me to rear end me. On the highway car randomly applies brakes when cars pass. After making a quick break myself due to the car in front of me braking, I released the brake pedal to continue moving since the car was far away. My vehicle immediately applied emergency brakes and skidded to almost a full stop on a State road. Almost causing me to be rear ended.

While driving the car on 8/17/2022 at 35-40 mph suddenly the emergency braking system turned on and stopped the car. There were no cars in front, in back or on the sides of me and the road was flat with no obstructions. At the time I was accelerating slightly with my foot only on the gas pedal. The car braked to a stop under heavy braking and luckily no-one was behind me or there could have been a serious accident. I made an appointment 2 days later with my local Honda dealership and they checked the car and found no problems with the emergency braking system and said it might be a software glitch. At this point I want to register the problem so hopefully a recall will be available to fix this dangerous situation but, in the meantime, I don't feel comfortable driving the car.

Had long standing problems with audio display screen backlighting & audio button backlighting and flickering while driving on a high way. It is very dangerous situation in multiple times. The touch screen problem is because of the defect from Honda end and might needs software update or a change of the touch screen. There is a class action going on with this system issue.

I have been driving on a regular street at about 25-30 m/hour. There were no cars in front of me and the road was straight and clear. Suddenly emergency breaking system turned on and car has stopped. Another similar incident occurred several weeks ago when I was driving on a highway on HOV lane at about 70 m/hour and had cruise control on. These instances did not cause any accident but if there was another car behind me, it certainly would. I did not have any issues with car besides this. I have not contacted the dealer yet but if there will be another instance, I definitely would.

When driving down the highway or street, making a turn large or small the steering catches and seems to stick at any speed from15 to 75. Then it will act normal. I was doing 25 mph on a left turn corner and the steering wheel stuck turning left. I was able to turn back to right and get it to unstick but it was scary. At least I was not going real fast when it totally stuck. I called Superstion Honda in Mesa and have made an appointment to have them check it out. I did look up about what may cause this and found a recall on the steering but my VIN says no recalls on it. I definetly have a problem and hope to find out what it is. It was suggested to me to file a report on this as it could be a serious safety problem. We went on a road trip this summer July 2022 and really noticed it when we were on the freeways. And last week it actually stuck on the left turn. So we decided this is more than our imagination.

On four occasions the AEB engaged for no reason. Three times we were on residential of city streets under 40 mph. There were no cars or obstacles for several hundred feet. One time was driving into the morning sun, the other times the sun was higher in the sky. The warning indicator engaged and the brakes engaged on three occurrences with hard braking. The fourth incident was on a freeway travelling 65 mph with no cars to the front for about 300 feet. On this incident the warning light flashed about t4 times but brakes were not applied. The date listed was the most recent. THe other three were within 3 months of this date.

While using Adaptive Cruise Control, driving down a clear road with no obstacles, vehicles, or road imperfections, the car flashed "BRAKE" on the screen, played an alarm, and moderately hit the brakes as if there were an object in front of the car, which there was not. I pressed the gas pedal and it stopped. If there was a car behind me, there would be a high risk of accident. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or issues.

Recently while driving home in a residential area, i came upon a road construction area. The part of the road being worked on was covered with a steel plate when i got to that area my car suddenly completely stopped and the seat belt snapped tight. Luckily there was no one behind me. Now i am scared to drive this car at all. What if this happens when I’m on the highway?

All of a sudden my dashboard lighted like a Christmas tree. I got a brake system, adaptive cruise control problem, road departure mitigation system problem lights turned on. I can’t use the cruise control.

I am making this report because I am shocked that my Honda's CRV AC hose from compressor to condensor needed to be replaced. All of my AC leaked out from compressor. My Honda is a 2018 and it only has 60,000 freeway miles.I went online and saw that many other Honda CRV 2018 owners have had the same issue. Honda should have repaired it. It took almost a week to get it repaired. Difficulty finding the hoses. I called both my dealer and Honda Customer Support and they didn't offer any type of extended warranty for this.

Traveling at 45mph 4 lane divided road, no traffic in front of me, 1 car behind at reasonable distance. Without warning, automatic brakes slammed on, throwing me forward. Fortunately the car behind me was able to change lanes and pass. This was terrifying. This incident happened around 9:15 am July 31, 2022 on dry sunny roads. I took it to the Honda dealership. They kept the car, did Diagnostics and returned it saying they could not replicate, therefor unable to repair. I have turned off the Automatic Braking System. Its a safety feature I wanted on the vehicle, but am no longer comfortable driving with it on. The technician at Honda said the unwarranted braking would not occur with it off.I have a photo of the billing of $65 but can't seem to download. The consumer added that on another occasion while driving on the highway at 45mph the brake light flashed and the alarm sounded. The automatic braking system is turned off and the consumer was assured by the dealer service department that they would not have an issue with it being turned off.

All of the warning lights on the dashboard turn on. There is nothing wrong with any of the components. The lights eventually all go off but then will randomly come back on.

AFTER ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A SHORT TIME THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE ELECTRONICS, FLASHED, THE HORN SEEMED TO WORK, AND THE BRAKE PUSHED BACK WHEN DEPRESSED TO START. PUSHBACK ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS UNEXPECTED AND EXTREMLY POWERFUL. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE BATTERY HAD FAILED WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN JUST OVER FOUR YEARS THAT THE MAMUFACTURERS BATTERY HAS FAILED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. *** HAD THE BATTERY FAILED (EITHER TIME) WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MONTION THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN CATESTROPHIC WITH THE POSSIBLE LOSS OF LIFE OR SERIOUS INJURY*** RESEARCH ONLINE INDICATES THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL YEAR, HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT CONTACTED ME TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. THERE ARE APPARENTLY NO RECALLS ON THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM.

There is an electrical issue with the car. On 07/14/2022, I took the car to the dealer for diagnosis of an electrical issue. The result of the diagnosis was a faulty Body control module. When the vehicle is shut off, the ignition spontaneously turns on and off and ultimately stays on. This kills the battery within a couple of hours. I have my own scan tool and plugged it to the OBD2 port. I attached the codes reported when I scanned it. I cannot drive it because the battery is currently dead and will go dead if I do drive it and shut it off for any considerable length of time. This has been such an inconvenience. The dealer couldn't even give me a rental while I wait for the parts to come in. I tried jumping the car to start it, but the problem still persists. I also have video documentation of the problem but couldn't upload it here.

I was traveling up a rural road on Sunday, August 7 around 1 pm. There was nothing in front of me and the automatic brakes system activated. I was traveling approximately 40 mph at the time. There was no one in front of me or in back of me. There was no damage or incident. I continued home without any issues. I have not taken it to a dealer. I did an internet search and saw that this organization was/is conducting and investigation.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering gear box and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

While driving in town going about 45 miles per hour, my 2018 Honda CR-V automatically and fully applied the brakes causing the car to skid to a complete stop. Immediately before braking, the brake alert display and audible alert came on just as it would if there were an obstacle in front of the car. In this case, there was nothing in front of me at all. The car behind me was forced to brake and take evasive action to avoid hitting me. After the stop, the car returned to normal operation. I contacted Honda and they referred me to a dealer. I will schedule an appointment in the next week.

Emergency Braking system is activated while the car is on road in 30+ miles speed and the car lost it control. Managed to stop it after driving a car for almost a mile long and then applying the break with hard attempt. This happened twice one around 10:30 PM on Jul 29th, 2022 and the subsequent day when I try to pull my car out of drive way. I decided to call my insurance for towing the car and sent it to my regular service provider Battison Honda, (Address) 8700 Northwest Expy, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.

AC compressor broke after 25K miles

While traveling on I-95N my car started braking on its own, I was in the middle lane of I-95 North in Maryland traveling about 75 mph when the car started braking for no reason, all the indicator lights lit up on the dashboard, I had no idea what was going on but somehow safely made it to the shoulder without incident. I was informed today that it was an "engine failure" that caused my car to brake/stall; I inquired why there was no warning, when you need an oil change you get a warning, when your battery is dying you get a warning, when your tire pressure is low you get a warning, all things that do not require immediate attention but there is no warning when your engine is going to fail -- that does require immediate attention especially when you are traveling on I-95 north with trucks and cars traveling at speeds of 70-plus miles per hour.

I would like to report an instance of failure of my 2018 Honda CRV EXL automated emergency braking system. I was on Interstate 80 in Indiana traveling west on July 22, 2022. Traveling at 75 mph with no cars ahead of me and suddenly the automated braking system engaged by itself slamming on the brakes. Slowing the car to almost an immediate stop. Throwing myself and my wife forward into our seat belts. Thankfully there were no cars following closely behind ours. I understand there is currently an investigation into this automated braking system. Please add me to the list of concerned consumers. 2018 Honda CRV with 31,690 miles, while driving home on city arterial at the posted speed of 35 mph, vehicle made a sudden, unexpected hard braking application which was very frightening to myself, the driver and my wife, the passenger. We had just gotten the vehicle back the day before from the dealer after they had replaced the rack & pinion steering box for intermittent sticking or binding during turning. The vehicle had about 10 miles on it since the repair, we where returning from a local errand, I was operating using the foot feed only with no cruise or any other driver assist options turned on, when it made a completely random and hard brake application coming to a near stop. The dash instrument cluster illuminated a large BRAKE warning with a possible audible warning also, but not totally sure on that because of the panic it caused. Fortunately we were traveling in light traffic at the time with no other vehicles following close or near in front to initiate such an automatic brake application. I called the dealer to report the issue immediately after returning home and have another upcoming appointment to have it inspected for this new issue. We have lost complete confidence in the safety of this vehicle and will not drive until after it is inspected and repaired!

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while using the remote start feature to start the vehicle, he became aware of smoke coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact attempted to unlock the vehicle with the key fob however, the vehicle failed to unlock. The contact also attempted to unlock the door using the sensor on the door handle however, the vehicle failed to unlock. The contact was able to manually unlock the door using the spare key to be able to turn the vehicle off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the started and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the warranty had expired and that he had to pay out-of-pocket for the repair. The failure mileage was 36,000.

Steering wheel feels like it almost locks up and driver must give a slight jerk to turn wheels! Makes a clicking or rattling noise when car is stopped when starting to turn the steering wheel. Very scary and dangerous when driver has to jerk the steering wheel traveling on the highway to keep vehicle in the safe lane. A wreck will happen which is what I told our local Honda Dealership!

All warning lights are on and Honda dealer said I need to replace the fuel injectors. My car is a 2018 model with just 60k miles. I searched online and there are many consumers reporting the same issue. Please help us resolve this problem. Thank you.

Lane departure warning activated when I was trying to change lanes. I believe I forgot to activate directional signal. Car suddenly braked hard and steering wheel jerked severely causing me to lose grip on the wheel. Vehicle was forced back into lane I was leaving. This hasn’t been duplicated because I turned off the lane departure warning system and I haven’t used it since this incident.

I put my car in park after driving a short trip of approximately 12 miles. Every single system alarm warning was activated. The critical engine failure, brake failure, fluid level warning, acc/lane assist warning, etc all alarmed during the same incident. The warnings I listed are not all inclusive. There were several others that I don’t recall at this time. Basically every system warning was activated.

The forward collusion warning and “brake” alert have activated several times at random intervals when no vehicles or pedestrians were ahead of me in the roadway.

While driving down a highway exit ramp at about 40 mph, my car suddenly slammed on the brakes for no reason -- on its own -- and came to a complete stop. The road was completely clear in front of me. I was nearly rear-ended by a driver directly behind me, who had to slam on his brakes and swerve to avoid hitting me. A car behind that driver also had to brake sharply. It's very, very lucky that none of us got in a crash. The items in my backseat flew forward and some framed paintings in my front passenger seat flew toward the dashboard, which nearly caused them to shatter -- I threw out my arm to hold them back. My arm was bruised in the process. I drove to the side of the road and parked, totally shaken. I had no idea whether it was safe to drive the car anymore. But I was in the middle of nowhere (near Gold Creek, Montana). There were no services for miles. So I had to get back on the road. This happened at about 5 pm, June 18, 2022. It was sunny. There was no water on the road. The pavement was clear except for a metal plate over a bit of road construction, completely flush with the road. The plate did not pose any hazard at all. I called American Honda when I got back home. A representative told me to take my car to a Honda dealer and get a software update to fix things. But when I called a local Honda dealer, they said there was no software update to fix a CMB issue. They also said it could cost hundreds of dollars to run diagnostics that would likely turn up nothing. So

AC Compressor Leaking Freon. 23243 miles. Cost $2184.20 to repair. Numerous complaints concerning AC, compressor should not have failed at this juncture. Believe HONDA installed defective part during production.

Automatic Emergency Braking - the car abruptly stopped while screaming BRAKE on the dash Although in this particular incident I was driving under 25 mph and there were no vehicles behind me, it could have been a much more serious incident if I was driving on a highway, say. I was pulled out of my seat and almost hit my head to the steering wheel. All loose items in the car pretty much fell to the floor. I have not gone to the dealer to check this out. I looked up the problem on the internet and it seems like model year vehicle is affected by this problem.

When turning right, heard popping noise from wheel and right front wheel stuttering action. Upon inspection found right front CV axle joint to BE blown apart and boots torn. This could result in loss of steering power and result in a crash. Mechanic said had 3 other 2018 Honda CR-V's with approximately all the same mileage with the same exact problem. Clearly this is a mechanical defect. What are the odds of the same mechanic having multiple incidents of the same problem in the same model car within the same week? How many other exact incidents across the country is this occurring?
