When I was driving on highway when moving from Texas to Indiana, about 11 warning lights were suddenly on. After sending my car to a local vehicle and mechanic autocenter, the vehicle has been detected code P0172 and P0304 issues which trigger check engine light one along with another 10 warning lights, including turning off cruise control and off-road detection systems. Both my local Honda dealer and mechanic auto center diagnose it as fuel injector faulty and warned me not driving it on highway for potential risk.
2017 Honda CR-V complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2017 record →
Twice in the last five weeks upon accelerating from a stop my car hard braked all by itself with sufficient force to push the driver and passenger very hard toward the front dashboard. One of the times I thought the air bags might have gone off. If someone had been behind I probably would have been rear-ended. In neither of the cases I received any fault or warning lights or indicators nor did I touch the brake pedal.
On October 6, I was driving my 2017 Honda CR-V and it automatically slammed on the brakes in the middle of the road. There were no cars in front of me, no pedestrian, nothing. It was a very strong jolt and I was lucky no car crashed into me due to the sudden stop. This had not happened previously. I took the car to a nearby dealership on October 11. The problem could not be replicated by the dealership. At first, the dealership wanted to blame it on a dirty sensor and close the job. Because I had looked at the NHTSA site, I was persistent that they look at the software. They did say they found a bulletin for updates and that the radar system needed one, so they completed it. I am concerned that most car owners may not even know this is a possible issue until it happens to them and that dealerships may not be aware of this issue and write it off to something else because it can't be replicated immediately.
All dashboard warning lights come on They flash and cycle through. I have reported to Don Wessell Honda and Pineger Honda in Springfield, MO and Honda of Jefferson City, Jefferson City, MO. This stated sporadically in 2021 and is constant in 2023. I have paid for replacement parts based on the best guess of the problem. Scanning tool does not show codes. First alternator, then oxygen sensor and now injectors. Honda believes injectors are the problem. It is over $1,000.00 to replace them. I have found numerous people having the same issue on line. I believe these injectors should be covered under a recall. They are dangerous!!! When the flashing lights go off the car works fine; once they turn on, randomly, the car spurts and dies out. I have no power to drive. I have to manually turn off car and restart it to get power. This is extremely dangerous in the middle of the road. I purchased this vehicle new and had to have the computer replaced soon after I purchased it. It is beyond frustrating, expensive, and extremely dangerous to not have your car perform when your driving down the road. Please recall these injectors before I or someone else gets hurt or killed by the car losing power suddenly when driving. Thank you sincerely.
2017 Honda CRV Ex 1.5 Turbo with 97483 miles while driving Multiple alerts on dash showed up. OBD 2 scanner diagnosed it as P0172. Dealership was informed of the code as dealer code came back the same and diagnose it as failed fuel injectors x4. Showed recall letter dated 7/2019 regarding extended warranty Honda Corp. denied claim.
Torque sensor internal failure causing notchy operation of steering. Safety issue concerning unpredictable jerkiness in the steering, especially at speeds over 40 mph. Confirmed by Coggin Honda of St. Augustine. Entire steering rack had to be replaced at a cost of over $3,300.00. No warnings prior to failure of the system.
Four different times when driving through an underpass. My car instantly slammed on the brakes. Almost causing an accident the last time. I took it to the Honda dealership after 2nd incident and they could not find the problem. Happened twice since then.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle and the steering wheel was vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that his daughter depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel injection system had failed, and the engine was misfiring. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 113,859.
We've had to tow our car to the dealership 2 times due to fuel pump, fuel injector related issues. It seems for the year 2017 CRV this is a very common and known issue but Honda is not acknowledging it. Tech notes state: CUSTOMER STATES MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON AND VEHICLE WILL NO ACCELERATE PAST 20MPH. PLEASE CHECK AND ADVISE. FOUND CODE P0301 STORED. CHECKED COOLANT LEVEL AND FOUND OK.CHECKED FREEZE FRAME DATA. FOUND ST FUEL TRIM IS AT 0.82. SYSTEM IS RUNNING VERY RICH. RECOMMEND SB 19- 032 IS PERFORMED. I have 2017 Honda CRV. I observed that my driver sear cushion is deformed. I took my vehicle to Honda dealer they inspected and said my cushion is deformed and airbag is loose. I called honda and they said they will investigate the issue, they investigated the issue and came back with comments that seat frame is bent and due to vehicle is outside warranty they can’t repair it. I checked online and found that people reported same issue in 2017 and honda fixed those issues. see - [XXX] Now I feel many people like me would have same issue and possible that they even dont know that air bag is loose and I believe its a safety issue. I feel someone should investigate this matter. I found this site and thought of sharing this. I observed this distortion of foam cushion since I bought my car but never gave any attentions to take it to dealer for checkup. I deeply regret it and now I am worried that this loose airbag is a safety issue. I AM SURE THIS ISSUE IS WITH MANY HONDA CRV 2017 CARS AND DRIVERS EVEN DONT KNOW THAT AIR BAG IS LOOSE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. when I was on the call with honda representative I felt helpless as they were like its your mistake , our dealer said its because of outside influence and we cant fix it. I bought this car as new and it was never in any kind of accident. THEY ARE NOT READY TO ACCEPT THAT IT’S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PLEASE HELP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I experienced “phantom braking” while driving across an intersection. The vehicle “brake” warning appeared on the display screen without any obstruction on the road. It then very abruptly screeched to a halt automatically. This incident put my infant, myself, and other drivers at risk. The speed limit on that street is 35 mph. Sudden braking to that degree can cause a collision.
Since 2018 have had sporadic electrical issues, brightness light comes on and then radio goes haywire changing channels on it’s own etc. Warning lights sporadically come on. Rear alert sensor stopped working for a while. Automatic braking has engaged several times without warning and no cars or objects in front of me while driving (very dangerous). When getting oil changes at dealer I mentioned the problem (1st time was radio only and they claimed to do a software update). Next time when I mentioned and showed a video they told me they know there’s a problem but don’t know how to fix it. Yesterday all my saved routes on my GPS including “home” were gone. The problems are becoming more frequent. Several times this week and from what I’ve read many people having the same problem and Honda not recalling the vehicle. Some people told it’s a defective BCM that’s back ordered and others say their cars are stalling, alarms going off , not being able to shut off the car and locks and FOB not working. Of course my car is out of warranty. These are serious issues and I’m afraid that my car is unsafe to drive. Others have claimed that dealers said there are also fuel injector problems. Apparently 2018 and other later models have been recalled but not the 2017. Many others being charged thousands of dollar to fix problem and then the problem comes back again. Someone needs to make Honda correct these serious safety issues.
In August 2022, I started my car and all indicators on the dash were lit. I took the car to the Honda dealership and they explained it was an oil dilution issue which was covered by Honda's extended warranty. Three weeks later after the repair, I started my car and all indicators on the dash were lit again. I took it back to the dealership and they diagnosed a problem with the fuel injectors. The service person that it was not covered under the warranty or a recall, but that they had noticed other CR-V owners experiencing the same issue. I had to have my fuel injectors replaced which cost me $1,491.76. It appears that the fuel injector issue is present on the Pilot, Ridgeline, and Odyssey vehicles manufactured around the same time as my CR-V, but a recall has not been issued. I filed a complaint with Honda to which they replied there was nothing they could do unless the problem was reported and investigated (by whom was unclear). The complaint has been archived by Honda but can be reopened should a recall be issued.
The engine failed and I was stranded 60 miles from home.all the dash lights were blinking and I couldn’t get the parking brake to unlock . It is available for inspection . I was stranded at a service station with another senior citizen for three hours in 100 degree plus weather. We were stranded and our safety was compromised as we waited for help . I had it towed to a dealer 20 miles away . Rented a hotel and got an Uber to the car the next morning . The auto repair person examined the car and determined that the turbo fan had disintegrated and was sucked into the engine . After further rested he reported the engine had failed and it would cost $8 000. Many of the lights and sensors suddenly began to blink . The car lost some power but we were able to limp to the gas station . This was first noticed in May 2023 . All the advanced warning signs were flashing And the car would intermittently stall in traffic . The dealer said the fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be redesigned. The dealer said that these fuel injectors were on back order with no availability date. If I continue to drive the vehicle with faulty fuel injectors the catalytic converter would be damaged If I continue to drive the vehicle with faulty fuel injectors the catalytic converter would be damaged. When I bought the car I bought the gold level easy care extended warranty period 10 year a 120000 miles . They deny covering this repair because there was residue on the fuel injectors period period my point of course was they were faulty by design not by my neglect period. It is now mid-september and I have been without a vehicle since June. There was a recall on the fuel injectors of later models of Honda's 2018 to 2023.
All advanced emergency systems kept flashing randomly Without any notice the brakes would lock up. It indicated that the emergency brake had engaged. I could not go forwand I could not I couldn't go in reverse. I was unable to disengage the brake. I went on YouTube And attempted to disengage then randomly I was able to do this period. After having happened intermittently I brought it to the dealer period they scoped it and found no problem. It was a random occurrence there was no rhyme or reason why this was happening . After a while At the dealers it occurred and the dealer said it was the electronic breaking system . This was an extreme safety issue because I did not know when the car was going to stop. It didn't matter if I was going fast or slow it just happened. The only warning that I had were that all the advanced lighting started to flash period but that necessarily did not mean the car was going to stop it was a random you're very very dangerous The only warning that I had were that all the advanced lighting started to flash period but that necessarily did not mean the car was going to stop .It was a random you're very very dangerous I had to pay $2400 out-of-pocket because the dealership did not submit it prior To repairing it to my extended warranty Easy Care Gold level policy for prior authorization (10yr, 120,000 mi.)
I demand answers for the issues I have been facing with my vehicle. I have been to multiple dealerships, but none of them have been able to provide a satisfactory solution. The dashboard lights have abruptly turned on, rendering various features such as radio, HVAC, power steering, brakes, cruise control, and others useless. Every time we have read the codes, different issues have been identified without any explanation as to why they are happening. It's high time that someone takes accountability for the problem and comes up with a solution.
My 16 year old son was driving the vehicle when all of the lights on the dashboard started flashing and alarms started sounding. As a new driver he found this really alarming and didn't know what to do. He was driving along at 40 mph along a local main road and very nearly collided with a vehicle in front of him at a set of traffic lights because he lost attention on the road. He pulled to the side of the road and was then a hazard to other road users and in a dangerous spot himself until he called me and I went out to him in a different car. We drove home carefully as the car seemed to be running fine but he was understandably shaken up. This has occurred multiple times in the last couple of weeks. The car bleeps several times and goes through all of the things that are not working correctly. Emission System Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem), Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem are all shown as faulty. The dealership have now told me that it is a fuel injector problem and they will need to be replaced. Looks like the car is showing an OBD-II code of running too rich and cylinder misfire. I have codes P0172 and P0303 and one other I think. My car has only done 45,000 miles. From reading more about this it seems tha
I alone in the car driving on a residential street, about 20 miles per hour. There were no cars in front of me when my brakes slammed on suddenly! I was jerked forward and items that were on my passenger seat flew to the the floor. Thankfully there was nobody behind me either, so there was no accident. It was a clear sunny day with no obstructions. There were no messages or warnings that I saw. This happened about 5 days ago. This has never happened before ( I’ve had this vehicle since 2017) and so far it hasn’t happened again. As far as I can tell there are no recalls for this issue, but I did see in my Google research that there have been other reports by Honda owners of this issue. I have not yet contacted Honda.
All fuel injectors failed per Honda dealership. They pulled error code p0172 from the car. When the fuel injectors fail, all of the car dash lights go on; saying the car has disabled ALL of the car's safety features, including: collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, lane keeping assist, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, electric parking brake, and tire pressure monitoring system.
Randomly all sensors will come on, won’t be anything wrong and sensors will stay on. Can’t tell when you have emergency break on during this. Researching and it happens to a lot of Honda CR-V
On 8/25/23 around 6:45am, I was exiting the gas station parking lot going around 15mph, and the car slammed on the brakes. The abs engaged itself even though there was nothing in front or around me. I knew I didn't step on the wrong pedal, because the abs indicator that says "brake" came on and this only comes on when the abs senses something in front of the car. All the stuff on my seat flew on to the floor. This happened once before a few years ago. A few times in the last few years, the car has been glitchy and "brightness" starts blinking uncontrollably on the screen. Sometimes if I shut off the car for a few minutes it will resolve but sometimes not. We purchased the car new and have been the only drivers.
Driving in clear conditions in the evening, the collision mitigation braking system suddenly engaged and activated the brakes bringing the car to a very sudden stop. There were no obstacles, cars, or any reason at all for the system to activate. Nothing was in front of the car, there were no other vehicles in the other lane, there was no glare from the sun, no animals, nothing. I was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour on a straight, smooth paved, three lane road. The brakes were fully engaged by the cmbs system for several seconds and then the alert disappeared and normal operation resumed. The dashboard "BRAKE" indicator appeared during the incident. It is highly fortunate there was no car immediately behind me, as my sudden and unpredictable stop would almost certainly have caused a wreck.
Started having trouble with the car just suddenly braking on the highway a few times but was able to disengage the ACC and take control of the car. A few times the entire radar system would shut down and I would take it into the dealer where they could find nothing wrong with the car even though by that time ACC would not work on the longest interval setting. Finally on a road trip in the beginning of August 2023 the entire radar system broke and could not be reset. I needed to replace the entire radar system for $1900 on a car that had less than 42,000 miles and is 5 years old!! Not to mention the danger in suddenly stopping on the freeway. I called Honda and they do not have a recall for this problem .... does someone have to have a terrible accident before a recall is issued. Not to mention the cost of replacing the entire radar system.
Beginning 8/22 and currently happening, my 2017 CR-V 1.5L Turbo with 48K miles (and all routine services done at Honda dealership/service centers since buying it brand new) does not engage when going from Reverse to Drive; in 1st gear the RPMS increase up to 3K or so before shifting into 2nd gear. When stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, and the car is idling, when starting up again the car hesitates and shutters before engaging. When on the highway and slow down for traffic or switching lanes, the vehicle hesitates even when pushing the gas pedal consistently or down all the way. I have had the vehicle into three different Honda dealerships/service centers and they can replicate the issue but no resolution as there are no service codes identified during diagnostics and none appear on the dash. First Honda advisor came up with no recommendations; 2nd advisor flushed and replaced transmission fluid; and 3rd advisor suggested testing and replacing turbo at cost of $3500+ and no guarantee it would solve the problem. I am distressed that the issue cannot be identified by Honda and fixed. I fear for my personal safety and that of my passengers as the CR-V is less reliable and I only drive short distances when need be. Taking it on a road-trip or long distance is out of the question. It’s a matter of time before I’m left stranded or in an accident due to lack of throttle response.
I bought this car on April 30,2022 for $30,000. It had18,0000 (plus) miles. Within 6 months the idiot lights would come on and all safety controls were cancelled. When this first happened, I was frightened that I would be involved in an accident or the car would just shut down. I called a Dealer close by and was told by their service manager to take it to an Auto store, have them put it on their computer to tell me what was wrong. I did that. Was told I needed an oil change. Had the oil change and things were ok for about 4 days when all lights came back on again scaring the h__l out of me. Had a private mechanic check it out and was told it needed an oxygen sensor. Then the car wouldn't start. Turned out the battery was low, so I replaced the battery. Warning lights did not go on for a couple of days. I then went to the local Honda dealer who told me to bring the car in and for $190 they would use their computers to tell me what was wrong. Can you imagine what Chutzpa that takes? They, knowing what the problem was yet charging me to tell me. I am now out of State. Took vehicle into closest dealership for oil change, tire rotation. Told service of dashboard lights, what I had done so far, and asked them to figure out problem. They said I needed $1500 fuel injectors which would have been covered by the warranty but that ran out on length of time. The car only had 30,000 miles but was 6 years old. Suggested I ask Honda for an extension of the warranty to cover costs. The lights
The screen in the middle goes haywire beeping and jumping from screen to screen. I am not sure if it is affecting any other electronic componets but it very well could be.
A/C Compressor Shaft Seal leaking and Honda Dealer - Norm Reeves Honda North Richland Hills in Texas is not able to vacuum the remaining refrigerant out of the Honda CRV 2017 which has only 58k miles. Their new equipment says there is a contaminant on the ac system and refuses to complete the warranty repair. They even mentioned that to complete the Shaft Seal repair, they do not need to remove the compressor. This should be a recall of the AC compressor instead of a warranty extension on the seal. Here in Texas, it's 109 deg F temperature and in the car, it gets up to 119 to 125 deg F temperature during the summer months. This is a major safety issue. Honda will only reimburse for the repair if it's taken to a Honda dealership but the dealership does not have the tools to vacuum out the contaminants. Additionally, the dealership thinks the discharge hose needs to be replaced as well. Due to the centrifugal force of the compressor when it spins, the leaking freon from the Shaft Seal with dye has spun around 360 deg and spread the dye all around it. This has caused the dealership to force the car owners to replace the discharge hose for an outrageous cost of $700+. Currently, the Honda parts website shows the compressor has been discontinued. Please take action with Honda on a full recall of faulty compressors. Many Honda owners with CRV 2017-2021 are seeing multiple issues pointed out during this Warranty claim of A/C Compressor Shaft Seal Leak.
Was about to go to work earlier today, when my husband tried to push reverse button, shifter button was not in place.. Was later found it in the console area and looks like it just broke and fell without any warning. This is scary. What happens if the car was in motion at that time and you need to change gear or reverse?
All warning lights come on until reset. Eventually leads to the car stalling, three times in the middle of busy high speed intersections. Have brought to the Honda dealer multiple times and been given several very expensive fixes that all did not solve the issue. (Spark plugs, fuel injectors(x2), alternator). All safety features are suspended when this happens. I have an open case with American Honda cooperation but they have not responded in 3 weeks.
Fuel injector System issue which disables KEY safety features of our CR-V's when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features of the CR-V to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...) In addition to the disabling key safety features, this CR-V's have reportedly gone into limp mode while at highway speeds. If this occurs to you while you have a 18 wheeler on your rear, you could potentially be in a serious injury/life event.
The radar sensor was stolen in July 2023. A Honda dealer confirmed this. Two representatives of the dealer indicated the sensor can be stolen in minutes without tools from the 2017 CRV and Honda placed the sensor elsewhere in later model CRVs to reduce its vulnerability to theft. Warning lights indicate 5 Honda-installed safety features no longer work without the sensor: adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, a collision mitigation system, a road departure mitigation system, and automatic high beams. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When the sensor is stolen, it is sometimes yanked out quickly (my case), damaging other radar parts. The dealer mentioned above told me replacement of the sensor and repair of the radar would cost about $2700. There are unfortunately strong disincentives to repair the radar, with the result that 5 safety features no longer work: The high repair cost, coupled with the distinct likelihood of another theft given shortages of the sensor and its value, discourage repair. Further, the fact that theft claims with insurers often result in rate increases and many folks have high deductibles discourage repair. American Honda Motor Company, Inc. has refused to provide financial assistance despite its poor engineering having essentially caused the 2017 model theft problem, and despite Honda’s correction of this defect in later year CRVs. Honda also has failed to create a “kit” for 2017 CRV owners to secure the radar sensor against
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH with the cruise control activated, the cruise control deactivated independently. The contact stated that the vehicle started decelerating with the accelerator pedal depressed. There were several unknown warning lights was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed back to the contact’s brother’s residence. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact’s brother, and it was determined that the turbo charger was not working as needed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode while at a traffic light and then lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the points, intake manifold, oil rings, fuel injectors, and spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously taken to another local dealer Hardin County Honda 5608 N Dixie Hwy, Elizabethtown, KY 42701 who replaced the points and plugs. The mechanic informed the contact that the fuel system was running rich and with a misfire in cylinders #1 and #2. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
2017 CR-V has 55,000 miles on it. ALL of the dashboard warning lights are coming on randomly, causing panic and making it impossible to tell if something is really wrong. Very Dangerous. Honda dealer diagnosis is to replace all 4 fuel injectors at cost of $1,726. There are literally thousands of reports about this online, people being given the same repair fix, often without permanent success, and with having to pay thousands for relatively low mileage vehicles. Honda has issued extended warranty for other Honda models about fuel injectors but has done nothing for the Honda CR-Vs. 2017 seems to be a bad year for this fault. Driving a vehicle with multiple warnings flashing randomly is dangerous.
My 2017 CRV started beginning of this year 2023 one day with all the dash codes lighting up effecting the safety drivability of the vehicle. It would randomly stop accelerating and all driver assist system not functioning properly. Accelerating was dangerous vehicle would stall or hesitate to go and almost caused us to get into an accident. This has been brought to a main Honda dealership in Henrietta New York and confirmed that replacing the fuel injectors would solve the problem and that this was an ongoing issue with the Honda CRVs. My vehicle was one of many that had been waiting for fuel injectors to be delivered at that shop. Based on other forums and Honda sites how this isn’t a recall is baffling. We waited over a month without our vehicle being fixed and unusable because the part was out of stock. Vehicle is still not fixed and we called all out Honda dealerships in Rochester New York today and they ALL are waiting for fuel injectors for the CRVs they have being repaired. I purchased this vehicle known for Hondas reliability but this is EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING you have customers with HONDA brand vehicles that ARE unusable and unsafe DUE TO A COMMON KNOWN ISSUE with the all the dash lights being effected by fuel injectors. This coming from a family of 6 with 4 children. Currently vehicle has been inspected by two auto shops for same issue and replicated codes, and unsafe driving issues with our CRV.
I bought my CRV touring used with 90,000 miles in July of 2022. I’ve had nothing but issues with fuel economy and the car feeling sluggish and held back because it’s not running properly along with getting every warning light on the dash that’s possible when it’s having the issue. P0172 is the code I get and my dealership said it’s the fuel injectors. It is a known and problematic issue that should be resolved by Honda for free because it is faulty. I was quoted $1,388 just to replace the injectors but they’re on back order.
I am unable to seaat five people because the rear seat belt does not fasten. I thought this was a 5 seater car, but it seems to be a four seater. Visitors aattempted to sit in the rear but found the seat belts were not functioning.
While sitting in the longest traffic jam I ever experienced on a hot summer day and not moving, suddenly all lights and driver assistant lights came on the dashboard and the parking brake engaged. I was able to release the parking brake and drive with all the lights lit on the dashboard. My vehicle had only 88K miles. A Honda dealership ran a diagnostics and reported a code po172 engine fuel trim lean so car will need injectors and fuel pipe to fix. I just paid for the diagnostics and not the repair since they were able to reset the computer to clear the problem.
Honda CRV Touring 2017All warning lights randomly remained on. Car braked in traffic, I could not unlock brakes.. After 2 hours of attempting you tube fixes the brakes un locked and car drove well. A few days later it happened again. When I called dealer they said bring it in. At that time they charged to scope it. They said no codes came on . A few days later my battery was leaking battery acid. I jumped the battery and brought it to Sam's Club and they replaced the battery . The car drove fine for a few days.. Then as I was driving home one evening and all the warning lights started blinking again . I took a video as I was driving in order to show dealer.. I brought the car to the deal the next day . They kept it for several days .then replaced the electronic braking system They charged $2100 plus I had a rental for 3 days . The dealer said there might be a fuel injector problem also, so if the lights start flashing bring it in . It would cost another $1800. I got the car back and drove it for about a week when all the lights started flashing . I brought it to another dealer that is 40 miles away . I told the "2nd dealer my story . They looked up my ViN. They told me the electronic brake system was covered under an extended warranty that I purchased when I bought the car . AS I was driving the blinking lights stopped . The dealer said they couldn't scope it unless lights were flashing When lights flashed I drove the car in they said it was the fuel injectors. The code was P
New resistance in steering at highway speed trying to keep steering centered and straight. No indicators or warning lights noting issue. Noted Honda TSB 18-103, 54 vehicles ONLY were recalled. Symptoms similar to TSB, brought to dealer, master tech diagnosed replacement of rack and gearbox, paid by extended service warranty because this vehicle NOT recalled by Honda. Once repaired, within the week on highway the LKAS kept indicating "Steering Required" on a very well marked highway where I never had that issue before, and the LKAS system was very noticeably NOT preventing steering into another lane when turn signal not used. Currently have another appointment to fix that (probably LKAS reset). This entire issue could have potentially resulted in crash or injury if not diagnosed and repaired immediately.
While driving on I-95 near Colonial Heights, VA we heard a loud BOOM - thought it was a tire although I continued to maintain control of car. Saw in rearview mirror, a small shingle-size piece of material fly off top of our 2017 Honda CRV, toward car behind us. Stopped & saw that our sunroof had literally BLOWN APART. The "shingle-size" material was the middle of our sunroof blowing off. Fortunately we had just closed our interior sunshade & fortunately the car behind us did not look to be affected by the airborne sunroof material. There was no truck in front of us (no flying debris from another car) & nothing fell on the top of the car! Had we not had the sunshade closed, 1000's of pieces of glass would've rained down on us, possibly causing me to lose control of the vehicle & quite certainly causing an accident w/those around me. Fortunately we were 1.5 miles from an exit & a Honda dealership (!) that assisted us in attaching Crash Wrap to the top of the car so we could continue on our way home to FL - but not without stopping 4 add'l times & also using packing tape to keep the crash tape on the car (due to rain). Broken glass continued to "rain" down onto the sunshade for the next 700 miles - we also feared the crash tape would come off and whip back at another vehicle. I've documented incident w/pictures, contacted my Insurance Company, American Honda Corp, Holler Honda (local dealer) & am scheduled to have the sunroof replaced in the next week. Am. The Fuel Injectors in this generation of Honda CR-V's (2017-current), have widespread reported issues related to clogged injectors - mostly in 2017-2019 models at approx. the 75,000 mile range. This causes the vehicles computer to illuminate multiple warning messages on the dash board (Emission System Problem, Brake System Problem, Brake Hold System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem), Hill Start Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Tire Pressure Monitor Problem). These warning messages are usually related to an OBD-II code of running too rich or cylinder misfire - P0172, P0303, P219F, etc.... Once one of these fuel injector related trouble codes is illuminated on the dash, all the above listed safety features are disabled. In certain cases, the car may even go into LIMP mode - even while on the highway and vehicle traffic behind the vehicle. There are many documented cases online on Facebook CR-V groups, and other CR-V related websites documenting this problem. Again, all related to a potential poor design with the Honda CR-V Fuel Injector in the 1.4L Turbo engine introduced in the 2017 model year - that then disables key safety features of the vehicle! All alerts on dashboard are active - Emission, Brakes, hill-assist, auto high-beam, collision mitigation system, etc. Can no longer drive my car safely. Dealer confirmed. The car just had its oil changed and air filter replaced.
I was driving on the Kennedy Express lane in Chicago, IL when all of sudden, out of nowhere, I started losing the ability to accelerate during rush hour. People were behind me and had to slam on their brakes. I had my hazards but it's only 2 lanes and people were honking and flashing me. There was no place for me to pull over. I was able to drive 5-10 miles per hour. The system has been inspected. I was told that the repair could take over 3 months because this is common in 2017's CRV's. They currently have 21 parked on their lot waiting for the same parts. They also confirmed that Honda is well aware of the issue. I was able to confirm on a lot of online forums that thousands of people have been impacted by the same issues. All of the safety lights lit up all a once. There was no way to determine by the warning lamps what specifically was wrong.
In January 2023 all the warning lights in the dash in our 2017 Honda CR-V spontaneously came on. Were told by Honda the system would reset and it did. Then we had to change out the battery which was supposedly the fix when it happened again. Recently the alarm would sound and lights come on when sitting in the driveway and not running. This progressed that day to having to jump start the car. Took it to Honda who diagnosed a BCM failure. Had to leave it there because it would not start at all. New BCM and again a battery installed. One week later all the warning lights come on again. Back to Honda to be reprogramed but told if this happens again would need new fuel injectors??? Apparently, the CRV should not be driven with this problem, as it can cause automatic stops, lane changes and other safety issues. There have been multiple reports of this issue and it is not being addressed.
Major driveability/safety issue. The vehicle started skipping and jerking on highway I-93 on the New Hampshire/ Massachusetts line. I was accelerating to 65 mph and merged with traffic, when the car engine began stalling intermittently. The check engine and maintenance indicator lights turned on. As I coasted to the side of the road, the vehicle continued to jerk and slow/speed up.
The bearing wore out at only 62,839 miles causing sudden and complete engine failure on the highway in the desert near Barstow California. We lost power and the car was shaking and spewing blue smoke from the tailpipes. We easily could have been rear ended at 70 mph but somehow managed to get off to the side of the road and at 2 mph make it up an exit ramp. We had to have the car towed 2 hours to a Honda Dealership in Irvine and it needs a whole new engine. It has been there 17 days (ruining our road trip vacation) and just now is finally getting the new engine. The top of the line $2400 -10 year-120,000 mile extended warranty we bought at purchase is refusing to cover it. The mechanic has found a great deal of metal bits in the oil pan and the number 2 bearing is worn down to the brass like it is a much older car with more miles on it. There were no warning lights on the dash before this happened and the car was not overheating and had plenty of oil and oil life left. This whole experience has been a nightmare. Our North Carolina mechanic sent us Consumer Reports articles about the 2017 and 2018 CRV Turbo engines having a defect causing gasoline to leak into the oil system, thus reducing the effect of the oil on the bearings and cylinders. This is a serious and dangerous defect. The repairs alone will cost $8000 plus the added food and accommodation expenses, towing costs, and the complete ruining of our vacation.
Issue #1: Automatic Braking Self-Engaged. Approximate Date: 11/21/2022 Mileage: 70k I was driving home. I was traveling southbound approximately 40 mph on a 4 lane road (2 each direction). The weather was clear (i.e., no rain or other adverse conditions). No other cars (northbound or southbound), pedestrians, or objects were on or near the roadway and my car, without warning, applied the brakes, hard. The automatic braking system had engaged by itself, without warning. Imagine driving down the road and for no reason, without warning, the car abruptly attempts to stop itself. There's little to be done and it's quite precarious, especially if the road I was on had heavier traffic. Thankfully, no one was behind me or I would have been in an accident. It was pretty scary -- my passenger looked at me and wondered why on earth I'd applied the brakes so hard but I hadn't personally touched them--there was no reason to stop or slow down in the middle of the street that day. When the automatic braking engaged, there was no warning and the vehicle was running fine. Issue #2: Faulty Electrical System + Sensor Failure. Date: 7/17/2023 Mileage: 85k All possible electrical warnings came up on my dash while idling in a grocery store parking spot at the prompting me to research complaints (I didn't know NHTSA handled complaints; hence, I'm filing two simultaneously in this report today). I observe a regular, routine maintenance schedule at the local dealership, and while I expect some mainte
All the warning lights activated when I was driving on the highway and the car made a bell noise to alert me. None of the safety features worked on the Honda CRV 2017, but I was able to maintain driving the vehicle without it. I took it into Tempe Honda Service and they said that the code read DTC P0172 and that I needed to replace all the fuel injectors.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
