The check engine light on my 2017 Honda CRV came on August 2022 and all safety features of my vehicle stopped working. I immediately took the car to my local Honda dealership. They claim the issue is due to faulty fuel injectors but refused to cover the cost to fix them under warranty even though it’s a known issue with this car and a couple of other Honda cars that use the same system. I’m really concerned as the injector issue disables KEY safety features when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...). Honda should be held responsible for putting their customers lives at risk with faulty systems and lack of accountability or solutions.

I just purchased a 2017 Honda CRV the end of May, and while driving in the streets doing Lift, my car SUDDENLY came to a dead stop for no reason! Fortunately, I was NOT on the freeway and there were no cars behind me while driving on a main street going about 40mph. I called the Honda dealership and they could not figure what happened. They only suggested to deactivate the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) every time I get in the car. This was very scary and I find it unsafe and tedious to do this every time! I'm hesitant to drive my car but it's my only transportation! UNSAFE CAR!!!!

Today July 5 while driving on local streets at approximately 35 MPH my brakes activated. As quickly as they activated they released. It all occurred in a matter of seconds. The instrument panel brake warning light flashed "BRAKE". I was not alone in the vehicle when this happened and my passenger was as surprised as I. There were no other vehicles in the area. My car has approximately 51,000 miles. it is the first time this has happened. I have not reported this to my selling dealership but will contact them regarding this event.

Our Honda 2017 CR-V AWD EX randomly braked in traffic causing the car behind us almost rear-end us. We had no warning at all this would happen. No warning lights were on. My wife, myself and our 3 year old were all put at risk. We are waiting a call back from the Honda service department. We had the problem reported here: https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/24/business/honda-cr-v-accord-braking-investigation/index.html

CMBS system in Honda CRV 2017 Driving 25-30 mph on a clear day (sunny, dry pavement) when the brakes engaged without warning (beeping sounded, but I didn't see the "BRAKING" sign in orange blink) car stopped hard, I jerked forward in the seat. I was able to drive the car back home (less than a mile away). There were no cars in front of me and fortunately none in the back of me so this didn't cause an accident. I'm afraid to drive the car in case the brakes engage suddenly and causes a rear end accident. I called my local Honda dealership and made first appt available 7/11/2023. This follows 2 incidents where all warning lights flashed (5/8/2023) and (6/17/2023) (including brake system light) the codes pulled were about cylinder misfire at a Honda dealer (on 6/17/2023 - CMA Valley Honda)

Three years ago all the dashboard warning lights went on in my car saying everything was wrong with my car 'brake system problem,' power steering problem, hill assist problem, etc. etc. etc. I took it to Honda immediately and they had no idea why it was happening. If I spend $4,000 they'll figure it out. Once in a blue moon the lights will magically turn off on its own for two or three days with no problems and then the lights come back on every single time you start the car. 355 days out of the year the lights are on every single time you start the car with no safety features able to work. It's beyond irritating, but it's mostly annoying because when you pay for extra safety features (like lane keep assist) none of them work when the lights are on. NONE. No brake warning, no lane keep assist, nothing. The car runs fine - people who do the tire rotations can't recalibrate it. So I took it to Honda again last week only to be told it is a problem with the fuel injectors and it's mostly 2017 models because of the new engine look. The fuel injectors weren't made properly to fit the vehicle, and the fact thousands of people have had this exact issue and Honda WON'T address it or do a recall, is absolutely wrong and disgusting. It's not a cheap fix. I will never buy a Honda ever again.

Steering

Steering feels “sticky” when trying to make small corrections to keep the car straight. By “sticky” I mean a little bit harder to move smoothly than normal to keep the car straight. Or there is more friction than normal when making small corrections to keep the car straight. The steering is not smooth when making small corrections to go straight. The “stickyness” only happens from center and between the 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock positions. Also feels like it does not want to move but then suddenly slips or jerks to the left or right from center. There is sometimes a faint noise from the steering column area with the stickyness – sounds like a little clunk, or squeak like when something is rubbing and needs grease or lubricant or worn out. When does it happen? Seems to happen more often after driving for a while like over 30 minutes. Happens both when lane keep assist is OFF or ON, does not matter. More frequent at speeds above 35 mph Happens less frequently on short drives. Happens more frequently when driving straight on good, flat, smooth roads. No issues noticed while making full turns, only when driving straight. Seems to be getting worse/more frequent.

When driving straight the steering makes an unexpected jerk on ITS OWN to the right or left. The movement is a small JERK on its own from the 12 o'clock center position to about the 1 o'clock or about the 11 o'clock positions. After it moves on its own, it feels loose or like there is a dead spot where there is NO CONTROL, It feels like it slips/jerks when I move it back to correct the steering to the 12 o'clock center position. Feels like I have to fight with the steering to keep it centered when the unexpected movement happens. Happens both when lane keep assist is OFF or on. More frequent at speeds above 40mph and highway speeds 55+mph Happens less frequently at lower speeds and on short 5-minute drives. Happens more frequently when driving straight on good, flat, smooth roads.

On major highways with traffic, the car would idle rough before conking out completely, especially upon acceleration. In cases where I needed to accelerate to merge into traffic, it was very scary, unpredictable, and unsafe. All warning display messages came on as well. Two mechanics have looked and the second mechanic stated that there's a common issue with fuel injectors for 2017 Honda CRV's. Since it's such a common problem with these cars, the fuel injectors are on a very extended backorder. So, he replaced them with after market injectors and deemed it safe to drive. I drove it to work the next day (again, on a major highway) and the car died again upon acceleration.

Car has been shuddering upon start and occasionally while in park or drive with foot on brake. All dash lights have come on multiple times while driving and will usually be reset once turning off the car. Took to two dealers over 1-2 years and was told they could not find an issue. Shuddering got worse so we returned to one of the dealers who told us there was a code firing for the fuel injectors and that they needed replacement but were backordered indefinitely and car would not pass inspection without them. Research online shows this is a very common issue with our year's model and they are backordered due to the high number of needed replacements.

We have experienced 3 episodes where all of the system failure alarm lights have been activated. The battery was replaced and the fuel injectors were cleaned after the first 2 episodes. On May 19, 2023, we were driving on I-5 north 100 miles from home when the warning lights came on. We turned around to return home. The car went into limp mode and could only go 10 mph over the passes. This was dangerous considering the number of trucks traveling on the highway. The following week it was determine that the turbocharger had failed due to a clogged oil filter screen. All of the scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, had been performed by the Honda dealership. There have been reported issues with the engine in the 2017 Honda CR-V, including oil dilution problems.

Honda CR-V head unit or central console refuses to dim. This is a serious safety threat as display is glaringly bright and distorts night vision. I did take the vehicle to dealership for inspection and recommendation was to replace the head unit as they think this is a hardware issue. Professionally, I am a software engineer and I find it very hard to accept that this is a hardware issue. The hardware otherwise works perfectly with no defect. Judging by my experience this looks like software is overriding user inputs. Internet forums are full of similar reports by many users. As this can be a serious safety issue, I request you to look into this issue.

In late summer of 2022 I had a visual warning "BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE" while I was driving on a highway. There were no cars in front of me for at least several hundred yards. This was distracting to me as the driver, but fortunately there was nothing that required my attention at the time. Over the ensuing weeks this happened several more times, always on a highway at highway speed. At first I thought it might be reacting to a sharp shadow from an over pass, but it happened on overcast days as well as sunny days. It did not happen at night. The frequency of these visual alerts gradually increased until October 8, 2022, when the visual warning flashed and the brakes were applied by the automatic braking system. Again, there were no cars ahead of mine. If a car had been tailgating me, it would probably have caused an accident. I took it to the dealer the next day, and after interrogating the computer, they determined that no fault was recorded. Privately, I was told that this was a known issue, but it could take up to a year for the software patch to be released, and in the meantime there was no recourse. I sold the car back to the dealer that day, purchasing another car that they had on the lot, because I felt that the vehicle was unsafe and I was unwilling to drive it any longer.

BCM (Body Control Module) failure/malfunction in 2017 Honda CRV EX with under 65,000 miles. Symptoms of the problem prior to diagnosis include multiple electrical system malfunctions: auxiliary mode automatically turning on and remaining on by itself (when car parked and unoccupied), door locks inoperable, vehicle not responding to key fob, car alarm going off by itself continuously (when car parked and unoccupied). Only solution to get all of the noted symptoms to stop is to disconnect the battery or wait for the battery to fully drain of power. Vehicle was taken to local Honda dealer and was diagnosed with failed BCM module. Informed currently the only remedy is to replace the BCM. BCM part number 38809-tmm-a11 is under nationwide shortage (current 4-6 month wait)to do manufacturing delays and other recall issues for other vehicle models. Therefore, vehicle remains inoperable for safety issues with the electrical system until part can be replaced.

Then all the safety features installed on the car rotated on the dashboard, in addition the check engine light and all the other yellow lights were on and there was a lot of white smoke coming out of my exhaust.I then took it to my mechanic who diagnosed it as a turbo booster failure. It is a safety issue due to my engine could have seize or caused a fire since I was driving on a highway at the time.I found out my extended warranty expired in April, one month before. Also, the mechanic showed me the turbocharger and the turbine wheel was moving around when it was supposed to be in a stationary position.

As I was driving several warning beeps sounded and several different malfunction alarms showed on the dashboard including cruise control, brake system, and lane mitigation system. When I parked the vehicle the emergency brake light continued to flash and would not engage. I was able to turn the vehicle off, wait a while and resumed driving to get home. The brake light did remain steady when I turned off the car, but it appeared that the other malfunction alarms were still in effect. In addition, a few days prior while driving on the freeway, my dashboard monitoring system dimmed unexpectedly. When I pulled off the freeway I was able to access and recover the light/dimming system. My vehicle has only 45,000 miles. I have experienced other odd electronic problems that resolved spontaneously in the past. However, these issues are worrisome and feel unsafe, especially when they occur while operating the vehicle.

On 2017 CRV with just over 100,000 miles has experienced multiple rear door lock actuator faults impacting both rear doors and the rear hatch release (locking them all in place and not able to unlock with the power switch or key fob), and as of last couple weeks our vehicle experienced a sputtering engine and sometimes would hesitate to start (or wouldn't on the first try). The culprit of the issue was the fuel pump, which had internally degraded and ultimately couldn't produce the pressure necessary for proper fuel delivery. This has been diagnosed and reported by a local independent shop (Honda Master Mechanic though) and is currently being fixed. I will have an invoice for repair once the part arrives and is installed (the replacement pump is on national backorder). I can also confirm that the pump being replaced in my 2017 CRV is a Denso unit as well, and is original to the vehicle. Currently, Honda has an active recall for fuel pump failures, but only in CRVs from 2018 and 2019 (not 2017, although I can attest that some 2017 models are being impacted). Honda had originally recalled those pumps from 2018 and 2019 models (plus those from Accords, Civics and some Acura models) due to safety issues related to fuel delivery system failure. Those safety concerns should be extended to all vehicles being impacted.

The car cabin smells like gasoline due to faulty fuel injectors. I tried getting Honda to fix it and they claimed it was a software issue. When the warning lights weren’t on the car would stop abruptly due to the front end collision system. The Body Control Module has internal failure. The lights, alarms, locks and dashboard, when not running and locked up in garage, spontaneously come on. When driving vehicle warning lights flash about problems that don't exist. Apparently, the CRV should not be driven with this problem, as it can cause automatic stops, lane changes and other safety issues. This has been a recall in numerous other Honda CRV's, however American Honda refuses to recall 2017's. I believe there are 2 reasons for this; the part is on a National Back Order and the cost to repair is $800. There are many reports of others having the same issues with their 2017 CRV's, I hope we don't have to wait until something serious happens before you have Honda recall the 2017 for failed Body Control Module- the brain of the car. I leased and then purchased this CRV, it has been well taken care of by the local Honda dealer. It was a case manager at Honda who suggested I contact you, as you can do recalls. I have the Paperwork and info and will be happy to email it to you if you need it. Thank you.

I took to dealership and they said bad Body Control Module (BCM). Honda recently recalled 700,000 vehicles because of BCM issues however CRV wasn't one of them - I suspect I am having the same issue - the replacement BCM, I'm told by the dealership, is backordered several months. Vehicle is going in to 'limp" mode at highway speeds without warning. All safety features including ACC, LKAS, Emergency Braking, Collision avoidance, brake hold do not work when this happens. Vehicle must be pulled over to the side of the road, shut off and then restarted to allow car to operate at normal speed until the issue occurs again ( usually 20-30 minutes later). Brought car to Honda and they confirmed fuel injector issue. Part is discontinued and new parts not available. No recall, but incidences where all warning lights come on the dash are all over user groups on the internet. Problem ALWAYS comes back to fuel injectors. The main issue is that it goes in to limp mode with no acceleration available without warning. This creates a HUGE safety issue in rush hour traffic. Honda does not acknowledge the problem with the injector and can offer no information as to when replacement injectors would be available.

When I tried to press the acceleration, I could only maintain approximately 20mph, with high RPM. The car actually felt like it was maintaining 20mph without any acceleration input. I pulled over and shut the car down. After waiting a while, I restarted the car. All the warning lights remained on, but it seemed I was able to drive the car normally. I decided to drive it 30 minutes to the dealership along back roads not going over 35mph. The dealership "reset" the warning lights and completed several test drives, but they were not able to diagnose the issue. It has been a couple months since the issue and it has not reoccurred, however I have noticed an occasional stutter when trying to accelerate.
