All warning lights turned on and vehicle lost power/dropped speed to virtually 10 mph. This is a fuel injection issue and is widespread safety problem with the honda crv. A girl recently had this issue and was rear-ended. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The driver's seat belt became stuck in the unused position and we were unable to pull it out to extend it to the locking mechanism. This put the driver at risk in that there was no usable seat belt, and therefore the driver would be unprotected in the event of a crash. The vehicle is currently at the Honda service department, and the technician believes there is something wrong with the ratcheting system, so he has ordered new parts. There were no previous warning systems, however the alert sound did go off that the seat belt was not in use when the car was turned on.
While driving today, 03/05/2024 my 2017 Honda CR-B suddenly began to break while driving. There were no obstacles in front of the vehicle and no nearby cars. My car continued to randomly break while I was driving continuously and the issue has continued throughout the day. My safety and the safety of others is at risk because the random braking can cause an accident. There were no warning or messages prior to this. The vehicle can be inspected at any time. This issue has not been confirmed with a dealer, but I am reporting it as it has happened and it is concerning.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start-up. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 138,140.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger’s side air bag inadvertently deployed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause for the air bag deployment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 107,000.
While driving at highway speeds the electrically controlled parking brake engaged resulting in a hazardous situation requiring my son to pull over off the road. The entire electrical system was acting strangely with hazard lights coming on randomly, alarm system going off randomly, and keys fobs not working. Honda dealership determined the issue to be a bad Body Control Module (BCM).
3 main issues: (July 2023) Suddenly when trying to accelerate on the interstate, I could not. I pulled over, turned the car off, and back on, and did not have the problem again for several months. (December 2023) Car started to sputter upon turning on. After a minute it ran fine. Continuous problem. (January 2024) Every single service light came on. Car would still operate but without cruise control, lane detecting, electric brake and every other feature. Lights remain on and flashing while driving. Still sputtered upon turning on but would stop after a minute. Several times when putting in drive, would not accelerate past 15mph approx). After restarting, the engine would seem to operate fine while all service lights remained on with functions of each not working. One day the car operated fine and did so for several days. Then the problems started again. I took it in for service and the dealer said it was a fuel injector that needed replaced. Waited for a part for 3 weeks and got the needed repairs. When I picked up the car it seemed to operate fine. The next day all problems started it again. It is currently in the shop to look for the cause.
This morning my Honda CRV unexpectedly braked while in motion driving 40mph. I didn't have my foot on the brake pedal & there wasn't any cars, objects or pedestrians in front of me. And, luckily there wasn't anyone behind me because there would have definitely been a rear end accident. The BRAKE sign came on during this action. I have a call into the local Honda dealer service dept., but I haven't heard back from them. My vehicle has not been inspected by anyone as I was on my way to work. This is the only time it has happened. I am extremely concerned with the safety for myself & others.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, she heard an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle, after which the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the contact observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact turned off the vehicle, after which the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting rods resulting in damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
The car has a warranty that was extended because of camshaft issues. The warranty expired 2023 I bought the car in 2023. The issue started happening in 2024. The car will just stop and not go no matter how much you press the gas. So driving anywhere at any speed the car will just all of a sudden stop. it’s extremely dangerous and obviously it’s a problem that Honda has already recognized
Service Bulletin [XXX] dated [XXX] corrective actions (dual special software updates) where followed and the frequency of incidents dropped dramatically, but after multiple dealership visits (Hardin Honda of Anaheim, CA) the center stack touchscreen still blanks out randomly while driving. Yes, the full vehicle is available for inspection. The screen continues to also “freak out” as shown in the following videos where totally random commands are being made. The blackout happens more but this still occurs periodically too. Nothing seems to fully correct the root issue. I show the dealership the videos I’ve recorded showing the issue but does not occur by the time the technicians test drive it. When it first happened, because it was so dangerous losing many controls, I also opened a case with American Honda customer relations ( #[XXX]) with “Jose” who noted the details but there was no response or followup because I was two months over warranty despite low mileage and simply out of luck. He said ask the dealership for “good will assistance” and you should get the majority of it covered probably bring it down to around $300 a replacement center stack touchscreen rather than over $2,000. In September of 2022 all the warning lights went off and the associated systems shut down. Took vehicle to dealer and had codes checked. Code thrown was P0172 - system too rich. Though vehicle was under extended warranty at the time of this incident none of the potential TSB’s for this known issue were investigated. Was advised that it was potentially bad gas and to run it low, return to dealer and have lights reset, refill with better fuel and see if the code trips again. Now in January of 2024, after my extended warranty has expired, the same code has been thrown again, and I’ve been advised to try the same thing, though this adviser does not believe the gas is the issue. He speculates that the fuel injectors are the likely culprit. Once again, a very known issue to Honda, which costs about $1500 to $2000 to repair. As this is a known issue, Honda should be correcting it free of charge to the owners of these vehicles.
The oil is mixed with gasoline causing the level the oil to hight or and do not lubricate well because is not oil pure in the engine and I went to de Honda dealer to change de oil and report the problem and they say that is normal but the oil was smelling mixed to gasoline and do not lubricate well motive I have to change the oil more frequently .
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle after refueling. Additionally, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic recommended a more extensive diagnostic test be performed by dissembling the engine. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a coolant leak inside the engine was discovered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
While the car was moving, the LCD screen suddenly flickered uncontrollably. Although the LCD screen returns to normal after the car is restarted, it will flicker after driving for a period of time.
Airbags did not deploy during car accident and are not available for inspection as car was totaled. My safety and the safety of other passengers were put at risk the driver was slammed forward since the car got rear ended and the driver's chest was slammed into the steering wheel; medical attention was required and injuries were sustainted. The other two passenger also required medical attention and sustained injuries one to their neck and the other to their head, chest, and back. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer or an independent service center as the car is totaled and signed over to insurance. The vehicle was inspected by police onsite shortly after the car accident and an insurance representative will pick up the vehicle tomorrow. Warning lamps/messages: unknown.
Infotainment screen malfunction and safety issue. Also hood popped open twice while driving 65 mph causing damage.
Dash showed a problem with the Supplemental Restraint Issue. The car was taken to our local Honda dealer. After three days of diagnosis, trial and error and almost a $1500 charge the driver’s side Airbag was found to be the problem and replaced. This car had just over 31000 miles. It had been garaged since purchased and was never in an accident. Why should an Airbag such as above need to be replaced unless it was defective. Why aren’t error codes more specific? Makes you wonder what would have happened if ,heaven forbid ,there had been an accident. Would this safety feature have deployed. I know there have been recalls of many such safety devices in the past and I believe there may have been a problem with Honda Airbags previously. Perhaps an expansion of this issue is needed. I have contacted Honda with the complaint and they rejected any responsibility.
My car had been rough on the steering wheel and eventually started to stall but still had a quarter of a tank of gas. It marked at a quarter of a tank but stalled in the middle of the freeway going 65+ mph and caused me to go from 65 to 0 in a matter of seconds. All my lights came on, on my dash and the car would not run. Went to get gas and car took a while to run again, this is the second time it happens and I didn’t even get a warning light for gas, there was that much still left in it. Apparently no recalls are associated with this VIN but this has happened twice in a month and it runs through gas very quickly.
While driving the car it began to spit and sputter and lost power to the point I had to pull out of traffic to the shoulder, stop, and turn hazard lights on. While there I turned the car off and restarted it. I began to enter back into traffic, got to about 10-15 mph and all of a sudden the car ran choppy and every light came on the dash displaying a problem with every function of the car. My husband works about a mile from where I was so I drove from where it happened to his workplace. From there the phone calls began to obtain a tow to the dealership. Diagnostic results said head gasket was leaking and coolant was fouling the spark plugs. Dealer quoted $5700 for repairs. (25 hours of labor). Around 86,000 miles (10 weeks ago) the same dealership replaced fuel injectors and spark plugs for $1700. Now the 2017 car is just under 90,000 miles.
All warning lights in car came on. Subsequently had diagnostic testing done. Code P0172 System too Rich. Dealer says fuel injector's need replacement. My understanding is this is an issue on other Honda cars manufactured during the same time period as mine and a recall notice was issued for those models.
I own a 2017 Honda CRV EX AWD. While driving downhill on a mountain road on Dec. 9, 2023, all of my dashboard warning lights and alarms began flashing and sounding off. Some of the warnings cycled through one after another while others were simultaneous. I continued to drive looking for a safe place to pull over. Going downhill I was able to maintain some speed, but when the road leveled off I found I was unable to accelerate to more than 5-10 miles per hour despite the engine continuing to rev. After pulling over, I stopped the engine for 10 minutes. Upon restarting, the dashboard warnings repeated the same process. At first opportunity, I took the car to a Honda dealership where code DTC P0304 was diagnosed and I was advised that the problem was failure of my fuel injectors. Repairs were made at a cost of more than $2000. Fortunately, this failure did not happen to me on a crowded freeway going at higher speeds as it could have easily created a situation where property damage, injuries, or fatalities could have occurred.
In August my 2017 Honda CRV started losing acceleration and felt like it was stalling. Every light on the dashboard came on. I brought it to herb chambers in Westborough and they fixed the turbo charger, the vehicle was still under warranty so I expected to get the issue fixed. In early December the newly 'fixed' honda CR-V started losing acceleration, similar to the previous time. I got the car to the dealership and they fixed the same issue again but charging around 3000$ because now the car wasn’t under warranty. On Saturday January 6th I started up the 2017 Honda CRV with the intentions of going to Herb Chambers in Westborough. (10-15 miles). The CRV again loses acceleration and check engine light comes on along with every other light in the book. Realizing I was not going to make it to Herb Chambers, I pulled into a lot to call for AAA (thankfully our 3 year daughter wasn't with me). AAA Tows the car to Herb Chambers. This time they said it was the spark plugs and Herb Chambers Honda charged close to ANOTHER $1,000 for the SAME issue that should have been fixed in August of 2023. Please see attached Honda documents for your reference. Three times in the span of 4-5 months where the car suddenly goes ‘limp’, on busy highways no mind you, I had to put my hazards on and pray no one hit me, it’s gotten to a point of where there is a known issue and these Honda service departments know this, but still ‘work on your car’, for outrageous sums.
I was driving and my car just randomly slammed on the breaks going through an intersection. There were no cars ahead of me for my car to use the brake censor and there were no cars behind me so I was lucky and did not get rear ended. This happened for a split second then my car was normal again. It stopped so quick and the car made a noise at the same time. I was concerned on why it did that so I went down and turned around and drove that path again. It did not do it again the 2nd time and there was nothing in the road that should of made my car brake on it's own. Lucky I was not going so fast and not on the highway. I have reported it to Honda and there are no recalls on my VIN at this time per Honda.
Bad Fuel Injectors at 60,000 Miles Caused all dash lights to go on Car went into Limp mode
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Car shut down while driving in middle of highway couldn’t even get it to shoulder. Everything stopped. Would not restart. Took to Honda Dealer. “Reset” fuel pump. Said we were out of gas but there was still 1/8 tank. No other diagnosis. Very unsafe.
The car just braked and stopped for no reason. Nothing in front of me. I could've been rear ended. Took it to the dealer the following day and they could not replicate the incident. They found nothing wrong with the brakes. Brake warning light came on when the car came to an unexpected and sudden stop.
Fuel pump stopped working. Car had trouble starting, felt ‘jumpy’ while driving. Had to get the fuel pump replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the steering wheel assist braking system and other warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injector had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle would be taken to another dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
What I experienced was a multiple system failure. It began with a dead battery two years ago. When the engine was restarted the TPMS light came on along with the indicator light to get your car checked. The lights only came on intermittently at first and it didn't seem to affect the function of the car. I had assumed that when I replaced the battery, I had loosened a fuse. As time passed, the number of lights on the dashboard increased along with the duration of time they stayed lit up. Now, within the past 3 months, all the system indicator lights are on constantly, with the accompanying beeps, dings and sounds for each light. Yesterday, on the highway, my dashboard began to dim and the vehicle began to stutter. The dashboard indicator read Critical Failure Detected. Stop Driving When Safe. At the time I was on the highway in the right lane going 51 mph. This is unsafe. I have children and grandchildren and I do not feel safe transporting any of them. The reported problems are: Brake System, Tire Pressure Monitor, Electric Parking Brake, Road departure Mitigation System, Collision Mitigation System, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, Anti-Lock Brake, Power Steering System
Driver’s Seatbelt will not click in place and my vin is not showing a recall. The control screen does not work correctly. It often goes bright and makes a dinging sound or won’t work at all.
When driving at highway speeds the steering would get stuck Causing higher than normal resistance to turn. Once the steering would respond it required quick over correction to prevent leaving the roadway.
While driving when it's raining, the anti-theft alarm goes off, the open door alarm starts beeping, and the low tire warning shows. The instrument cluster sometimes goes completely black, and on one occasion the engine shut off completely. We took the car to a Honda dealer for service and they replaced the battery but that hasn't fixed the issue. Obviously, losing the instrument cluster and power at high speeds is dangerous. This issue has occurred at least six times over the past year.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the system was independently disabled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the fuel injectors were defective. The mechanic informed the contact that if the vehicle had been driving at the time of the failure, the vehicle would not be able to exceed 10 MPH. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving on the highway at approximately 65 MPH, the "Brake" warning light illuminated, and the vehicle independently slowed to 30 MPH. The contact stated once the vehicle slowed the "Brake" warning light disappeared and the contact was able to depress the accelerator pedal and regain forward momentum and speed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred before. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22003 (Forward Collision Avoidance). The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on several occasions when the vehicle was started, there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. Additionally, while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was steered to the side of the roadway and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
Defective fluid injector in multiple CRV 2017. Honda has discontinued the original part and updated the part along with the part number. This injector issue disables KEY safety features of our CR-V's when it occurs. An injector issue should NOT cause safety features of the CR-V to stop working (ex. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, TPS, Hill Start Assist, Braking, etc...) In addition to the disabling key safety features, some CR-V's have reportedly gone into limp mode while at highway speeds. If this occurs to you while you have a 18 wheeler on your rear, you could potentially be in a serious injury/life event.
My honda when I was driving on my dash started going crazy and says power steering, brakes, tire pressure, adaptive cruise control etc.. I can use any of my safety features when driving the car is constantly telling me there's all these things wrong.
All warning lights on the dashboard come on and disable numerous safety features. The car will have a rough idle at ignition and will sometimes go into a limp mode and will not accelerate. I have researched the issue and believe it is the fuel injectors. According to my research that is the solution that Honda has for these problems. Honda has also changed the part number of these fuel injectors and the manufacturer. I believe Honda is at fault for putting manufacturer defective fuel injectors in.
I was on an exit ramp from one freeway to another. The Honda Collision Management Warning System activated with 2 warning indicators and alerts then immediately activated the brakes hard skidding the tires. After 2-3 seconds it released the brakes. There were no vehicles in front or to the side of me. A vehicle behind braked to avoid me. The weather was clear with good visibility. The sun was to the left. The pavement was dry. I took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. There were no computer codes recorded for the event. They inspected the camera and radar, and test drove the vehicle and reported no problems.
Twice the dashboard lights come on randomly. Took it to the dealer at Honda of mentor who supposedly "fixed" it but the issue has come back.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the ABS, Forward Collision Avoidance, and Emissions warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who changed the engine oil and updated the engine software. After retrieving the vehicle, the warning lights returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that there was fuel inside the engine oil and the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 84,292.
The incident happened on 11/2/2023 at 8:40 AM ET. I was at the speed of about 25-30 miles/hour to drop my daughter at preschool. Suddenly, I received an alert on my dashboard saying "Brake System Problem". When I applied brakes, the vehicle wouldn't stop. I pressed brake pedal very hard and kept it that way for a while. The vehicle gradually came to a stop but it took long for a vehicle to come to a stop. It was a 'brake failure experience'. If there was a downward slope and/or if I was at a higher speed, the vehicle would have gone out-of-control. I don't recall if I felt automatic acceleration when this incident happen. After vehicle came to a stop, I immediately engaged the parking brake, stopped the ignition, called emergency road-side assistance and got the vehicle towed to a dealership. This incident definitely put me, my 3 year old daughter, and others on the road at risk. Dealership inspected the vehicle. They found an error code that confirms the occurrence of the problem but they are unable to duplicate the issue. They don't know why it happened, nor can they guarantee that this will not happen again. They said they followed manufacturers guidelines to troubleshoot the problem. Since they cannot find why it happened, they don't have anything to fix, and advised me to pay the labor charges and pick my vehicle. I reported this issue to American Honda. Case # 14229789. They were concerned that the brakes should have responded well since the model is not hybrid or fully

My Honda 2017 CRV, EX AWD Touring was serviced for oil change, transmission fluid change and complementary 20-point check on August 8, 2023 by Honda Dealer. Unintended sudden acceleration caused accident at a speed of less than 5 miles while parking the car in empty library parking lot Oct 22, 2023 collision summary: As I was parking the car I turned into an empty parking spot with a speed of about 3 to 4 miles. A Sudden burst of unintended acceleration as I turned to park caused high speed and my car hit a car parked on the opposite side, not in front but adjacent parking spot. This sudden unintended burst of acceleration so quick and forceful that as my car hit the car on the front bumper of parked car. The collision deployed the airbag. I was shaken and traumatized momentarily. I avoided bigger collision and managed to stop the car some 15 ft ahead in the empty space. The door opened only halfway due to damage on front side near drivers door. There was smoke inside the car that scared me. I was shaken and managed to come out safely. I went inside the library and called my daughter. My daughter called 911 to report about the accident to the police. The police and medical emergency came within 15 minutes. I told them that I am alright and no injuries of any type occurred. The policeman was also surprised by this unusual collision in an empty parking lot. After going over the accident he told me that he will not give me a ticket for this incidence. I provided detailed informa

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
