Numerous complaints and visits to the Honda dealer and phone calls to American Honda, About the stereo system in my 2017 Honda Accord, while driving the radios abruptly cuts off and starts making extremely loud static noise, even after turning the system off the static persists with no way to shut it off without having to turning the car off or pulling over to remove the fuse that powers the system. I try buying a new stereo system from the dealer at extremely high price but the radios have been on back order for over 2 years. And an after market system will be extremely labor intensive and having to make major modifications. I bought the car new and been driving the car without the radio for 2 years. Please help.

This is an ongoing problem - -- On startup, the vehicle reports 4 system warnings that shut off the cruise control and ABS brakes as well as the other safety systems. This is an intermittent problem. -- The dealer states that the camera is dead and wants $2,500 to replace and calibrate it. This is a common response from dealers I see in all the forums. -- I have found a work-around that is not documented in forums yet. -- If we keep our foot on the brake until after the electronics start sequence finishes, no errors EVERY TIME -- If we take our foot off the brake when the car starts, but before the electronics finish, we get errors every time. This is a dangerous, high-frequency, extremely expensive problem if we follow the dealers suggestions. I do not know what the root cause is, but I know it is not a $2,500 problem. And, I am very concerned about the people driving without the safety features due to the excessive and unnecessary cost.

This 2017 Honda Accord has recently been making very loud static noises from the speakers. It gets so loud and the only way to turn it off is to turn off the engine and restart. I cannot upload my video, so here is one example: [XXX] My static is twice as loud as the one on this video. Thank you. When I purchased my car from AutoNation Honda Clearwater, I immediately faced several issues. The first problem was with the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). As soon as the error appeared, I contacted the dealership. They informed me that it was covered under warranty and that I could visit any Honda service center to have it fixed. However, when I went to another authorized Honda service center, they refused to perform the repair, even though TPMS is a legally required safety system. In addition, I had reported the following issues to the dealership soon after purchase: 1. The driver’s seat is torn. 2. The passenger power seat is not functioning. 3. The air conditioning system makes a “burping” noise. Most importantly, the dealership failed to provide a lug nut key at the time of delivery. This became a serious issue when I had a flat tire during travel. When roadside assistance arrived, they informed me that the car required a special lug nut key that should have been provided by the dealer. Because of this missing item, the car had to be towed, which cost me $700. When I contacted AutoNation Honda Clearwater about this, they claimed they did not have my original key and later sent me a replacement key that did not fit. Their response was unhelpful and dismissive. I believe this situation reflects negligence and poor customer service from the dealership. I am requesting appropriate action and compensation for the towing expense and the unresolved issues that should h

It goes in and out and restarts. The whole system went to the dealership many times and they say they see nothing wrong. There were warning lights that went on and off at various times (inconsistently) which first appeared 2 months ago.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to report a recurring and potentially dangerous issue with my 2017 Honda Accord EX-L. The vehicle emits sudden, extremely loud static and high-pitched noise from the speakers—often occurring in hot weather and even when the audio system is turned off. This unpredictable noise is not only startling but also prevents me from hearing surrounding traffic, horns, or emergency vehicles, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. It poses a serious distraction and safety hazard. I have found numerous similar complaints from other Honda owners online, indicating this may be a widespread issue. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this as a potential safety-related defect that may warrant a recall. I listed the date below around when this started occurring. It happens multiple times per week. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

All 4 warnings came on about a month ago - no safety systems & no cruise control at all. I could drive 50 miles and they'd go off until eventually they did not. Now I find through the forums that this is very common for the 2017 Honda Accord & Hybrid! And, the dealers knowing this are charging over $2,000 for a simple camera! So, they know these have a high failure rate, are not fixing them, and are price gouging us! Please help us all on the roads out there!

Sporadically, and after driving at least 10 minutes continuously, a static sound begins out of my rear speakers and increases in volume quickly. It starts coming out of front speakers as well so that it appears to be coming out of all speakers and it is extremely loud. It is so loud that it sounds like I'm in front of a speaker at a concert, and it is hugely distracting while operating the vehicle. The audio is not on, the bluetooth is not connected, and there is no way to get the sound to stop. Even turning off and on the car does not stop it. This has happened 6 times in the last 3 weeks and it is so loud and distracting - bordering on deafening - that it is nearly impossible to continue driving the car. Online research indicates that others have had this issue as well. When I went to the Honda dealer, they were unable to replicate the issue but said that they had seen 2 people with the same problem in the last week and were nearly confident it was an audio head unit issue that is known within certain years and models of Hondas. They were unwilling to officially diagnose it without replication but I told them that I would be willing to pay to fix this issue because it is a safety hazard and then I was told that the parts were on backorder and I'd have to wait until they arrive in - no estimate provided. Please help - it is very difficult and distracting to drive this car when the issue occurs, and it's impossible to predict when it will occur next.

I own a 2017 Honda Accord “Touring” model that has developed an intermittent audio problem (described below) that is a safety issue because it causes serious driver distraction and impatience to reach a destination to turn the car off. There is NO WAY for the driver to stop the problem without turning the car completely off. Despite numerous reports from others (documented below), Honda has not issued a recall. It is hoping that a “goodwill discount” of 40% or so (offered only if the owner knows to demand it) will prevent a recall. The ONLY fix is to have a Honda dealer replace the OEM “audio head unit”. Without the “goodwill discount”, the installed cost is $1,400 - $1,600 to fix a condition that is obviously out of warranty. The problem is that in hot (85+) weather, even with the audio system turned OFF, a modest “scratching” sound begins from all speakers, gradually becoming a loud, continuous static which lasts for 3 or 4 minutes and then gradually tapers off to silence. If I turn audio power ON while this is occurring, the static instantly becomes intolerably loud until I turn audio power off; then the scratching continues for a few more minutes until it gradually disappears. When this problem is not occurring, the audio system plays normally. This problem is significantly frequent. 10,000 to 15,000 such cars were sold. •CarComplaints.com lists 170 such complaints under the Electrical System and Other Problems categories. •CarProblemZoo.com lists 99 general equipment com

This is happening a couple of times a week now. With the audio system locking up while driving making for the audio volume to not be able to be adjusted. They audio system is locking up and there is no way to reset the system while driving. There is not always a place to stop and shut the car off then restart -which is how I have been dealing with this issue for many years now. Sometimes, I am on the highway in heavy traffic while this happens. It is a massive distraction having to listen to blaring commercials that have increased volumes that jars drivers' focus on the situation surrounding me. I have tried holding the power button down for over 5 straight minutes without anything helping. I have tried multiple buttons hoping for a reset... still nothing. Today, this happened again in heavy traffic without a place to stop and do an ignition off/on... as this is how I have been dealing with this issue. The audio system has no volume knob, only flattened button. This happening in heavy traffic is dangerous. My car is a 2017 Honda Accord Touring Hybrid. It appears that this is a known issue with other owners of the 2016-17 Honda Accord Touring Hybrid. This has been happening since the car was new. it's REALLY OLD and dangerous.

Several times when driving at speeds of 50-60mph with my foot steady on the accelerator, the car will suddenly start to slow down so that I am going only, say, 40 mph. Either at the same time or shortly after this occurs, multiple warning lights/messages appear on the dash: Collision Mitigation System, Brake System, ACC System all appear and messages say they are not working, which is true, although the brakes seemed to still work fine. When this occurred the first time, I was able to pull off the highway and stop, unsure of what to do. I continued to try and drive because I was in the middle of a long trip. The slow downs kept happening intermittently, but I discovered that if I pumped the accelerator a couple of times, the speed would be restored. However, this was still a dangerous situation because I never knew when it would occur, so I stayed in the right lane and had to avoid any situations requiring confident acceleration, such as crossing a busy street. In total, this has occurred while I’m driving approximately 10-15 times, but the warning lights may or may not go away after a while, or after stopping and re-starting the car. I took car to DAR Cars Honda Fairfax (Virginia) dealer who updated software and said it should be fixed. Honda issued a recall for the torque converter on my 2017 Honda Accord. I had received the paperwork in June of this year and have been battling with them ever since. I had to have my transmission replaced due to repeated issues with my torque converter code appearing and lose of power over a year ago. After losing power going uphill several times and being fearful of causing a crash, I had to have it repaired. In January 2024, I paid an independent car repair facility(DynoTrans in Temecula, CA) $4,200 to replace my entire transmission because of this recurring issue. I have submitted the receipts from the facility to Honda and because they requested "proof" of our cash payment, screenshots of both mine and my husband's bank statements showing cash withdrawals(since we paid the owner in cash in order to get a cash discount), and Honda is denying to reimburse us for this repair, even though it is a nationwide recall, a known issue, that I had paid for out of my pocket to have repaired prior to them ever issuing a recall due to this recurrent issue with the torque converter. I feel like this is an illegitimate denial and therefore am filing this complaint. Sandra P. is the representative that I have been in contact with from Honda.

Issues with the radio. Unbearable, ear piercing static coming from speakers. You can turn the volume all the way down and even power off the radio and it continues to have loud static coming from speakers. You have to pull over and turn the car off to stop the noise and alot of times it will not stop. There is no way to stop the noise. The car had this same issue when I bought it from a honda dealer. The dealer replaced the radio and 1 year later im having the same issue and the radio is 1 month out of warranty. I was quoted 1400 dollars for a new radio plus labor. Just doing a quick Google search, this seems to be a common problem with this year make and model vehicle. There are no recalls for the radio at this time. The audio system in my car has gone bust - there is a periodic loud static noise that blasts out of the speakers at maximum volume and can not be turned off, even by setting the audio power off. It was brought to the Honda dealership and confirmed the audio system. The noise is so loud and startling that it causes the driver to easily lose focus on the road. It can also be so unexpecting that it can cause sudden jolts in movement, endangering the roadway. When looking online, this seems to be a common issue with the 2017 accord model ex-l as there have been many forums of people posting their same complaints. To make matters worse, there are no after-market replacements that work with the ex-ls dual screen setup and getting the actual part is in indefinite back order. It appears that Honda simply wants us to cope with the dangerous issue.

I paid for a replacement seat belt 17 June 2024 from Val Strough Honda dealership in Seaside CA, a special order. Seat belts for 2017 Honda Accords have been back-ordered ever since. I have checked back every couple of months; still back-ordered 13 months later. At one time the dealer said there were 59 back-orders for that part. The dealer received one July 6th which went to a customer who had waited 2 years for it. Seat belts are required in California. I drive as many as 20,000 miles each year. I am writing to formally raise a serious safety concern regarding a known and recurring defect in the infotainment/head unit system of my 2017 Honda Accord. Like many other Honda owners, I am experiencing unpredictable and extremely loud static or popping sounds through the speakers, which occur without warning while the vehicle is in operation. This issue significantly compromises vehicle safety. The sudden, blaring static drowns out critical audio alerts such as collision warnings, lane departure signals, and other safety-related notifications, placing me and others at increased risk while driving. Upon bringing this issue to a certified Honda dealership, I was informed that the head unit cannot be disconnected, as it is integrated with the vehicle’s essential safety features. In other words, I am forced to choose between enduring a hazardous and disruptive audio malfunction or disabling key safety systems entirely—an unacceptable situation for any driver, particularly in a vehicle marketed as reliable and safe. Furthermore, I was advised that the only known solution is a full replacement of the head unit, which comes at a cost of approximately $1,800 out of pocket. It is deeply concerning that Honda is expecting customers to bear the cost of repairing a defect that is both widespread and clearly rooted in manufacturing or design flaws. Given the scope and severity of this issue, I urge Honda to take immediate and responsible action by issuing a recall or providing an exten

While driving my 2017 Honda Accord, I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate when pressing the gas pedal entering the freeway. At the same time, the check engine light flashed along with multiple other warning lights, which caused the car to go into limp mode. This put my safety at risk, as I was unable to speed up in traffic, creating a dangerous situation. Same situation occurred the next day - narrowly avoiding the accident. The car is not safe to drive. Honda dealership determined issue was due to a fuel injector failure, on a very well-maintained vehicle it seems strange for this issue to come up. I believe this issue is directly related to the faulty fuel pump which is being recalled for many 2017-2018 ACCORDs as the defective fuel pump caused excessive strain on the fuel injectors over time, it could explain why so many owners, including myself, are experiencing premature failures. Radio emits loud static, on or off. Sometimes starts low and builds to high volume, sometimes full blast without warning. Cannot be silenced without stopping car and turning off. Dangerous especially in traffic. Honda defect reporting phone line acted as if they never heard such a thing, same from the service manager where the car was purchased new. Different honda dealer service manager said same. I told him online forums were loaded with reports just like mine. I asked him to take out his phone and search 2017 honda accord radio static....he said yeah I guess there alot of reports of this issue. Last service manager admitted we change a couple of these radio heads a week.

Driver door and driver side rear door lock actuators both failed very untimely. Car has 55,000 miles on it and is garage kept and accident free. I needed to replace both components as the doors would not lock or unlock and posed an extreme safety hazard. Also the alternator needed to be replaced very untimely making me feel as though there are further electrical issues with this vehicle. I contacted Honda and have not received a response in over two weeks.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
