2022 GMC Sierra 1500 complaints

The truck was parked indoors for a two days for tailgate repair/paint. The fire department responded to a fire at 6am 10/11/2023 and per their report the fire was started in the engine area of a 2022 GMC Sierra Denali. I am not the owner of the truck, my vehicle was damaged as a result. Owner's insurance has inspected the vehicle.

While driving the vehicle, the radio will suddenly and instantly jump to full volume frightening the driver and passengers and making it hard to focus on the road and control the vehicle. The dealership and GM will not fix the issue as it happens intermittently.

Unwanted Radio Volume Ramp Up to Max: The radio volume turned up to the maximum while driving and could not be turned down with user controls including those both on the steering wheel and the volume knob on the dash. The situation lasted about 60 seconds before it began responding again. The vehicle has the optional Bose radio system which is EXTREMELY loud. This issue presents risks with damage to my small daughter's ears, as well a significant distraction from driving due to frantic attempts to decrease the volume while being overwhelmed by the noise level.

I was driving the vehicle with my 4 year old daughter and experienced a complete brake failure. The dealership responded by replacing the master cylinder (the truck only has 16000 miles on it). Upon receiving the truck back from the dealer, another brake failure occurred. This is a dangerous vehicle and GM has done nothing to make it right with me.

Hi , I came on here to see if there was an issue with airbags deploying on the gmxlc sierra 2022. A cow hobbled out into the route 11 , mooers , NY and I impacted with It well over 45mph . My chest hit the steering wheel and my neck was jerked forward and no airbag. Not sure if something is wrong woth the sensor or what. Also be advised the fatality in this incident was the cow annoyed down below.

While driving my Vehicle down Interstate 20 in Odessa TX the engine locked up and quit running at 70 mph in traffic. The truck is 13 months old with 17,000 miles on it. No warning lamps or alarms prior to the truck just shutting down. It was towed to the nearest GM Dealership and the Maintenance facility was able to diagnose that the motor was locked up. It was towed back to the purchase dealership in Shreveport LA at owner expense of $2,500.

We purchased a new GMC truck 1/27/23. Immediately there was a problem with a bad vibration. We first took it in for service 2/2/23 at 178 miles. The tires were balanced several times. Then they completely replaced the tires. The vehicle still vibrates at highway speeds. We took a trip in June that was a 6.5 hour trip. The vibration seems to get worse going up big hills. So when we returned we scheduled the sixth service visit. We took the truck in July 5th to Darrell Waltrip GMC. They kept our truck for 22 days. The first day, they asked us to come in and ride with the service department. He saw how bad the vibration was. He told my husband it seemed to be coming from beneath the truck and it was not the tires. GM made them swap tires and wheels. That did nothing. Talking to the service manager one day and he was telling us about occasionally “rare vibrations” and having to replace something in the transmission. At the end of that conversation, he called us by another name. Apparently another customer was having this “rare vibration” as well. An engineer finally showed up and drove our truck. He said it’s normal for a truck to have a severe vibration and the other new trucks on the lot does the same. I know there are class action lawsuits regarding the “Chevy shake”. Our year model is pending a new lawsuit. After researching, it seems they have produced vehicles for years that have driveshaft issues. They also had problems with Goodyear tires. We feel they are ignoring a long

While driving my 2022 Sierra elevation in April of 2023 my check engine light and a reduced power light came on and onstar diagnostics gave me a code of P30B2. Made a service appointment and was told there was an issue with the wiring. Problem was fix so i was told by the dealership, but the check engine light has come on 3 more times for the same reason.

Front collision with a deer at 65 mph. Hit front drivers side. Airbags did not deploy. Airbag dash light is on and a notification to service restraint system.

The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact stated that the failure had caused other safety features to not operate as designed. The vehicle is brand new with only 300 miles on the clock. Today while driving to work and listening to XM-radio the volume spiked to max and would not respond to controls to lower volume or turn off. I was able to lower by switching to a different output. It was very detracting and potentially dangerous since the Bose speakers are very loud.

Vehicle does not have a notification via chime or message stating the rear tailgate is open. There is a button on the dash that can open the tailgate when the vehicle is stopped at an intersection, this can be inadvertently pressed without the driver knowing, causing the vehicle to drop any cargo when accelerating or leaving the intersection. This can lead to serious injury or to any vehicle behind it. Many owners have already reported losing cargo such as tool boxes, paint cans and groceries spilling throughout intersections.

On multiple occasions the Radio has went to max volume for approximately 2-3 seconds then shuts off and goes through a reset. This situation can cause the driver to be suddenly distracted put the driver and others at risk of an accident.

The factory Installed Trailer Brake Controller - The brake controller disengages the trailer brakes after multiple applications of the brake pedal. If the ignition cycle is stopped and restarted brakes are then reconnected. The Truck is equipped with a Max Towing package and factory installed brake controller. Prior to disengaging the trailer brake, a message "Check Trailer Wiring" appears each time the brake pedal is applied, then after multiple brake applied, the message" Service Trailer Brakes" message appears and the trailer brakes are disable for the remainder of the ignition cycle. I had the brake controller serviced at a GMC dealership In Hillsboro, Oregon following the first failure of the system, they advised me that the problem was the trailer plug on my trailer and advised me of brand and model number to install on my trailer. After I installed this new plug problem remained. I then to the truck to the dealership where I purchased the truck in Salem, Oregon. After an inspection there I was informed that it was a wiring issue with my Canopy and that they had fixed it. Again the problem wasn't fixed and the brake controller continued not to work. On my next visit for the same problem I was advised that my trailer was the issue and that the truck wasn't the problem. So I took my trailer into a top tier trailer repair shop and everything on my trailer was functioning as designed with no repair required. These 3 visits were over a period of 14 months. I purchased my 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Truck back in November from Ewing GMC in Plano, TX. I am a roofer, and my career depends on my vehicle. I live in Plano, TX, and was driving 80 mph back from Lubbock, TX around 12 PM Friday 3/24/23, on the highway when a notification appeared on my dash saying I needed to press the "start" button. The truck completely shut off, making it difficult for me to pull to the side of the road safely. Once I had stopped, I put the truck in "park" and it was completely unresponsive and would not re-start. I had to wait over 5 hours for OnStar to get a tow truck and get my truck. It was eventually towed to Frank Brown GMC in Lubbock around 6:30 PM that evening. I live in Plano, TX, and had to fly back the following morning. GMC in Lubbock was not able to look at the truck until late Monday afternoon 3/27/23. The service manager in Lubbock said the engine appears to be seized up internally and they have suggested a complete engine replacement from corporate. It is now Wednesday 3/29/23. I am still without a loaner truck, as Ewing GMC here in Plano will not provide me with a loaner since the truck is not in service at that location. It is not my responsibility to get the defective truck back to GMC Ewing in Plano, as the truck is still under full warranty. GMC corporate, Ewing GMC and Frank Brown GMC are not taking this situation with any urgency, and I am now responsible for paying for an $85,000 truck that does not run and GMC has not been cooperat

The contact owned a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while the husband was driving approximately 20 mph smoke was suddenly present coming from the vents inside the cabin of the vehicle. After pulling over and stopping the vehicle sparks suddenly came from the radio console and the husband immediately exited the vehicle. The vehicle quickly was engulfed in flames and the fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. During the incident, the vehicle was destroyed. A fire and police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the incident. No injuries were reported. The failure mileage was 11,373.

I bought a new GMC, I received 3 vouchers for computer chips to be installed at a later time years ago. They have not provided them. They are selling new fully equipped vehicles with computers chips just fine. Can you handle and have GMC install their backlog of computer chips? There are many safety features that DO NOT work, like parking assit and basically all warnings like when backing up etc. They made me sign a form stating they are not responsible for safety issues stemming from this (our inability to sue) this should be illegal. Engine began stubling and warning lighta began flashing.

While driving down the road on two different occasions the volume on the radio went to full blast and would not turn down or turn off. This caused distracted driving and could potentially cause an accident. Dealer states manufacturer is aware of issue with no resolution at this time. No warning of failure and the first occurrence was February 12, 2023 and the second occurrence happened March 5, 2023.

The back-up/reverse cameras black out mid action and also once the vehicle is put in Reverse. During inclement weather conditions, a car stopped abruptly in front of me to avoid a huge pool of water on the highway and the forward collision braking system did not kick in and now the light is illuminated on the dash board and won't turn off.

There is an occasional burning rubber smell(weekly and daily) coming into the cabin of the truck from the Duramax engine/exhaust. The dealer was notified and they informed me from their bulletins on the matter, that they believe it is from a "wax" on the vehicle exhaust system when heated up. They informed me that their is no remedy or fix at this time. The smell and air quality that me and my family are breathing I believe is unhealthy and possibly toxic. I would like the GM to replace these components causing the issue.

I purchased this vehicle to tow a 7,600 pound RV trailer with Electromagnetic brakes. This truck has an integrated brake controller. The truck keeps giving error messages: Check trailer wiring issues. Brakes not connected, etc. I have troubleshoot the trailer wiring and replaced most of it. I still have the issue. Online I see many people stating similar issues. Supposedly my truck has an error code associated with the brakes but dealer is of not help.

While towing my 7000lb car trailer, I get a message that the trailer brakes need service, then I get another message that the trailer brakes are disabled. At this point the brakes are shut off and no longer work. This is extremely dangerous. The problem is with the truck. It does the same thing with multiple trailers of tried with electric brakes. All of these trailers work fine by my other vehicle with electric brakes for the trailer.

I FEEL IT IS IN THE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM When driving along every now and then you can feel a vibration like diving on rumble strips. there is no rhyme or reason for it. I had it to the dealer and they told me that was normal, if you don't want it to do it then drive in 9th gear. I'm not going to shift to 9th every time I drive.

Truck was placed in Park on an inclined road. Exiting truck, truck started to roll backwards. I was struck and right foot was run over by Driver's side front tire and knocked down. I was wearing composite toe shoes which enabled me to get up and run after the truck, trying to stop and control the truck a second time. I was hit again and thrown off the side of the road into a briar patch. Truck continued to roll backwards and off the road into the woods. Upon investigation, two separate County Deputy Sheriffs confirmed that the truck. when it came to rest, confirmed the truck was still in the Park position. Truck had to be towed out of a ditch in the woods. I sustained moderate injuries, but thankfully was not catastrophically disabled. This should be investigated thoroughly, so that no other person(s) is injured or dies as a result of this defect.

When I started my truck the Service Power Steering and Service ESC notifications came up on my panel. Now my truck has no power steering and it very difficult to steer and navigate. We are in the middle of a winter storm so it is even more of a safety issue in slippery conditions. The ESC system does not engage either and the truck slides when taking corners much more than it used to before the issue.

I bought the truck to pull a trailer and the truck is equipped with a max tow package. When pulling a trailer after a short distance a warning comes on a says the trailer brakes have been disengaged. I have had it to two GMC dealers and they refer me to a GM PIT5948A. C159C document and is says there is no fix. I bought the truck to tow and it is unsafe to do so.

Electrical component- Dashboard is constantly glitching, blue-tooth will not connect properly, electrical appears to turn off randomly while driving to the point we have to pullover because it appears and feels like the truck is turning off. Power step running boards malfunction- They don't open or close when they are supposed to. Power step running boards also malfunction while driving. It is a risk because we've had to pull over in conditions that aren't safe, putting a family of five in danger. The problem has been reported to the dealership and manufacturer and has gone unresolved.

When I initially started the vehicle, I noticed the parking assist would not turn on. No warning lights or messages were displayed so I didn't think much of it and continued on driving. Approximately 5 miles down the road while traveling around 45 mph, I came upon a stoplight with other cars waiting. I pressed the brake to start decelerating and the pedal went all the way to the floor and vehicle did not slow down/decelerate. The check engine light, ESC, trailer brake, and brakes warning lights/messages then illuminated. I was approaching the vehicle in front of me quickly so, to avoid a rear end collision, I swerved into the shoulder and was able to coast through a right turn and on to a side street where I eventually coasted to a stop. I narrowly missed a major collision and was fortunate that there was no cross traffic approaching when I turned on to the side street. This could have been catastrophic, especially if pedestrians had been in the area. After stopping, I restarted the truck and the brakes seemed to work, however, the warning lights remained illuminated. I drove slowly to the nearest dealership. They replaced the electronic brake control module. Truck has approximately 20,000 miles on it and is well maintained.

While operating the vehicle, the radio went to full volume on its own. Attempts to turn it down did not work. The radio turned down, when the buttons on the steering wheel were pressed, but turned back up faster than I could turn it down. The power button on the radio also didn't work. I tried pushing it and then tried pushing and holding it down for a few seconds. I had to end up grabbing my phone and shutting the Bluetooth off on the phone to get it to stop. Very unsafe and distracting. It has been documented in a forum where others have had the issue as well. It is the new infotainment system and appears to be a software bug. I have owned this GMC Sierra now for 4 weeks. I went to trailer our new boat and trailer with EOH braking system and during my ride home I would a Trailer brakes disabled pop up then finally stayed on and lost all braking to the trailer. Trailer was check and all good then found out that many others with GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados had had this issue now for the past 3-4 months with GM still not having a solution yet we all have defective and very dangerous vehicles losing all braking with the trailer due to this issue. They need to be pressured to get this fix ASAP before someone dies. The braking on this vehicle is dangerous! Very poor stopping power. I’m am frightened to tow a trailer behind the vehicle because of its extremely poor stopping distance. This is so bad that I think there must be some sort of design error or something. Someone needs to look into this.

New vehicle purchase on 10/17/2022. Attempted to tow 7300 lb travel trailer on 10/21/2022. When tow began DIC warning message said “TRAILER BRAKE DISENGAGED. SERVICE REQUIRED” Trailer is 2023 Airstream with no brake failure. Disabled trailer brakes not safe to operate. GMC Dealer acknowledged the failure but unable to fix.

After leaving my truck parked for a couple of hours over dinner I returned to find error messages stating "Service Power Steering / Drive With Care" and "Service ESC". I also received a notification from OnStar stating "Diagnostic Alert: Service the Antilock Braking System in your 2022 Sierra within 1 day." My power steering was non-functional, nor were any cruise control functions. Repeated stop / start cycles did not clear the errors or regain functionality. After parking overnight everything was functional, and the errors on the DIC were gone. Using a code scanner there were historical codes of U0131 and U0422.

Reference GMC PIT5948A : Service Trailer Brake Message with DTC C159C - October 6, 2022. When I connect my trailer that has trailer brakes the system recognizes my trailer and the trailer brakes work until I try to drive. I get an error message "Trailer Brakes Disabled Service Trailer Brake System". This may happen within a few feet or the longest is about a mile. GMC has no fix and the dealer while cooperative didn't/couldn't trouble shoot the problem as the above PIT has no known corrective action. Now I own a truck that has the "Max Trailer Package" that is rated to pull 13000 lbs but has no trailer brakes. I have eliminated my new trailer as the source of the problem by making a Trailer Brake Emulator, see PIT #5509H Diagnostic Tip. The error continues to happen. This puts myself and the public at risk if the trailer is heavily loaded.

The integrated trailer brake system errored and disabled during transport of a 5,000 pound trailer. There was a complete loss of trailer brakes. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer and the manufacturer informed. The warning was displayed at the time of the component failure.

Vehicle is equipped with a max trailering package and includes an integrated brake controller. Trailer brakes become disabled within 1-2 brake applications. A "Check trailer brakes" warning is displayed on the DIC followed by a "Trailer Brakes Disabled" alert. GM has issued a Bulletin No. PIT5948. Currently there is no work around or fix for the problem.

The forward collision assist and lane keep assist are suddenly not working. This seems to be a software or eletrical issue.

Truck has the safety package on some point stop working bring the truck to the dealer but they don’t know how to figure out I need help with this.

The engine shut off completely at a traffic light and didn’t start when I pressed the gas pedal to move. It has auto start to save gas and normally starts and stops at lights. This time, the car shut off completely, and I had to completely cycle through starting the car. I almost got rear ended because I took my foot off the brake to drive, and then nothing happened when I pressed the gas.

On 05/28/2022 my family was driving my brand new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 3.0 Diesel at a rate of 60mph. There was suddenly a loud clunk (transmission) after proceeding a little further and getting speed back to 60mph there was a similar “clunk”… the diesel truck then immediately gained several various check engine / sensor lights all over the dash and went into Limp Mode. Speed slowly decreased from 60mph and finally as we were navigating our final left turn to our destination the truck would not accelerate thru an intersection subjecting our entire family to utter danger of oncoming vehicles. As a last ditch effort to save ourselves I put the truck in reverse and was able to reverse about 2mph. Then proceeded to shut the truck down and turn it back on to get out of the intersection, but the truck would not come out of park. Onstar emergency was contacted to call the police as we were in an extremely dangerous situation. This truck nearly caused our entire family to get in a very bad collision. The truck was stuck in the middle of the intersection for over 2 hours. The police even attempted to help getting the truck out of park , but was unsuccessful. The truck was scanned on site and had various codes including C1555 (x4) U0101 (x2) P25A2 U220F Collision assist light Check engine light Service Traction Control Light Service ESC The truck experienced catastrophic failure at only 319 miles. Day 4 of ownership. This vehicle needs to be investigated if it is failing this early on.

Additionally, while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal extended to the floor however, the vehicle failed to respond or decelerate. After stopping the vehicle, the contact restarted the vehicle however, the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer who replaced the brake master cylinder and ABS module. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 9,700

Check engine light came on at 458 miles. Took it in and after an hour they determined it was the ecm. They said it was bad. Now they're on the hunt for one. In the meantime, in a day the truck has started feeling like it's over shifting and then bogging down. 458 miles, really! I'm going to need a loaner for longer than I've had it and still make payments.

Purchased 2022 GMC Sierra on 1/18/2022 with 0 miles on it...On 04/08/2022 the engine started a loud knocking noise...sounded like a piston trying to shoot out of engine..very loud..I was afraid to drive it.. We took it to the dealership and they said they have had a few come back for lifter problems.... Not very happy for my purchase of a brand new truck with 0 miles on it after driving for less than 3 months...

Truck drove as expected with no prior warnings. We pulled over for road snacks/drinks upon starting the truck we got a whole slew of warnings and warning lights. The warnings included:. Service ESC, Service Trailer Brake System, Service Brake Assist, Steering Assist is reduced Drive with care and finally Brake System Failure 43 MPH top speed. The check engine light, Traction Control Off and BRAKE light stayed on. We slowly drove to an O'Reilly's and got the ODB Code P25A2 (1 of 2 stored) and P25A2 (2 of 2 pending). I then noticed I had an email notification from OnStar Advanced Diagnostics: This is a Diagnostic Alert for your GMC Sierra. Dear [XXX], An issue with the Antilock Braking System in your 2022 GMC Sierra has been detected. Please service your vehicle within 7 days. The following morning the truck was was started and all seemed normal like nothing ever happened, no warning lights or warning messages Our of concern we dropped off at Garlyn Shelton Buick GMC service center to diagnose the issue. They reported finding code C05B0 for Brake Fluid Leak. Further states No external leaks found, Brake Fluid test passed 2 of 3 times, recommend needs Master Cylinder Assembly but No replacement parts available.
