Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles. The power steering assist may be lost due to a poor electrical connection within the steering gear assembly.

Risk. A loss of power steering, particularly at lower speeds increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace steering gear torque sensor cover assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 6, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N202325410.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2018 GMC Canyon, 2016-2017 Buick Envision, 2016-2018 Chevrolet Colorado and Malibu, 2017-2018 GMC Acadia, 2018 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Equinox, and GMC Terrain vehicles. The high pressure fuel pump may detach from its mounting flange, possibly resulting in the pump damaging the high pressure fuel line.

Risk. A damaged fuel line can create a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the high pressure fuel pump, and high pressure fuel pipe, free of charge. The recall began July 2, 2018. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado, and 2016 Chevrolet Volt vehicles. The driver's frontal air bag may improperly inflate during second-stage deployment in the event of a high speed crash.

Risk. An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 8, 2017. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17387.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles manufactured January 6, 2015, to March 17, 2015, and 2015 GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured January 6, 2015, to March 19, 2015. A poor electrical connection within the steering gear connector may cause a loss of power steering assist.

Risk. A loss or reduction in power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to December 24, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience the front brake calipers leaking brake fluid. This is due to air pockets, an imperfection in the metal caliper body.

Risk. If the vehicle experiences a brake fluid leak it can increase the stopping distance, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the front-brake calipers if necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 9, 2015. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14888.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to April 1, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the hooks that secure the driver's and/or front passenger's seat frame may not have been properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

Risk. If the seat-frame attachment hooks are not secured properly, the seat may not be adequately anchored to the vehicle, and in the event of a crash, the seat occupant could be at an increased risk of an injury.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seats, correcting their installation as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on June 2, 2015. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles manufactured September 15, 2014, to January 21, 2015, and 2015 GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured October 3, 2014, to December 9, 2014. The affected vehicles have a front driver air bag inflator that may be misaligned to the air bag module backplate. This can cause the inflator to separate from the backplate during a deployment.

Risk. If the inflator separates from the back plate in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, this may cause the air bag or steering wheel components to separate and be propelled into the interior compartment, potentially seriously injuring the driver or other occupants. Additionally, the air bag may fail to properly inflate, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

Remedy. GM has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the driver air bag module inflator for proper alignment, replacing the air bag, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15037.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured January 6, 2014, to October 1, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the driver air bag connections may have been wired incorrectly. This could reverse the deployment sequence and disrupt the deployment timing of the driver air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. If the driver air bag does not deploy as designed, there is an increased risk of driver injury in the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), free of charge. The recall began on October 6, 2014. Lost power steering

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the "Power Steering Assist Lost" message displayed, and the steering wheel became stiff and difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was parked, and upon restarting the engine, the failure self-corrected. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 224,000.

Power steering and stabalink malfunction causing a radom and very dangerous complete power steering failure. GM was forced to do two recalls for this failure, one in 2016 and another in 2021 but they excluded any Canyon made after May of 2015. The recall should include these as well because their claimed fix did no such thing which is very dangerous to the occupants of the Canyon as well as other vehicle occupants on the road.

Was driving my truck and would randomly lose power steering while driving. When the power steering cut out it would jerk the steering wheel to the left a little bit and if I pulled over and turned the key off and turned it back on, it would reset and start working until it happened again, which could be five minutes later or 20 minutes later. It would cut out at any given time. I am the second owner of this vehicle and once this problem started happening I looked into it and found out that there was a recall on this, and the recall had been satisfied in 2021 but the problem obviously was not fixed. Tried calling several dealerships with no luck and was forced to get it fixed at my regular shop at a cost of $3023.07. I have receipts for the repair. This is clearly an issue that was never resolved.

Driving I15 and went to take my exit and the power steering went out and I almost rolled the truck now the eps won’t even come on. There needs to be a recall for my vin like there is for all other trucks that year. There was no warning just shut off immediately if my wife was driving she would’ve rolled the truck. It hasn’t been looked at but there is a ton of recalls for the same issue with 2015 and for some reason my vin is not listed. This needs to be solved asap as this is my only vehicle that I use to take to work

My 2015 GMC CANYON had been running for approximately 10 minutes. I was on the highway driving home from the DFW airport doing 65mph. My wife was we me as we were driving home from a trip to visit our grandchildren. A message popped up on the display that said my power steering had failed, a chime also alerted me. It was immediately noticeable as I could barely turn the steering wheel. If I had been in a turn I may not have been able to control the truck and may have caused an accident. While driving the truck, it suddenly locks up the steering and I have to maneuver safely to stop. This has happened to me various times and its scary and dangerous.

The steering on my truck a 2015 GMC Canyon totally locked up! Fortunatlly the vehicle was parked when this happened. Suppose I had been on an interstate highway at 65 miles per hourwhen this happened! There was a recall for this very same problem on this very same 2015 model in 2016. My vehicle was not part of the recall and I feel that it should have been in the recall and maybe this wouldn't have happened This recall was Bulletin No.15595A.

The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, he observed a burning odor in the cabin of the vehicle, and the steering wheel became stiff, requiring significant effort to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and restarted on several occasions. However, over time, the failure reoccurred more frequently. The contact stated that after the failure had occurred, the messages "Service Power Steering” and “Stabili-trak" were displayed. The contact was almost involved in two crashes due to the failure. The contact then received notice of an unknown recall, and the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the dealer acknowledged the recall repair. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the cover to a power sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred two months later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

I own a 2015 GMC Canyon that developed repeated and serious fuel-system and engine problems beginning around 56,000 miles. The vehicle experienced fuel contamination (water in the fuel system), multiple fuel injectors failing and sticking open, repeated misfires across several cylinders, and engine stalling/shutdown while driving. The truck was towed multiple times and repaired repeatedly by an authorized GMC dealership. Repairs included injector replacements, fuel pipe replacement, fuel-system cleaning, and related work. Technician notes show that broader repairs were recommended but not fully authorized, and the same problems continued to return. Despite the dealership later stating the vehicle was repaired, there is no written safety certification, no documented fuel-system integrity testing, and no GM engineering clearance confirming the vehicle is safe to operate. Because of the repeated failures and risk of fire or loss of power, I do not feel the vehicle is safe to drive. I personally paid over $6,000 out of pocket for fuel contamination repairs and spark plug replacement (not including towing), after warranty coverage denied some repairs as “water damage.” The vehicle has been unsafe or inoperable for extended periods. I am reporting this because repeated fuel-system failures and engine shutdown present a serious safety risk and may affect other vehicles of the same model.

GMC CANYON LOOSES STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING AND THE WHEEL HAS TO BE TURNED BY APPLYING A LOT OF FORCE. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING A BUSY ROAD IN JULY 10 2025. MYSELF, SISTER AND NIECE ALMOST GOT KILLED TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE FROM THE HOV LANE TO THE SHOULDER. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPRODUCED AT THE DEALERSHIP GMC YOUNG IN LAYTON UTAH AND PRICE TO FIX IS $3,500 US DOLLARS THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER, INSURANCE OR POLICE. MESSAGE SERVICE INTELLITRACK DRIVE WITH CARE CAME UP AND WHEEL LOCKED UP. THERE WERE NO MESSAGES BEFORE THE PROBLEM APPEARED.

Around ~2017, power steering failed while driving and a safety recall was performed on the torque sensor cover. Later, the whole rack and pinion module was replaced. In ~2025, power steering failed again, and again the whole rack and pinion is getting replaced. Both times the failure occurred on a windy mountain road and was nearly catastrophic.

The first occurrence (post recall 21V213000 completion 8/24/2021), was Sunday 9/21/2025 . I was just accelerating after a stop sign turning left and I lost power steering and stabilitrak. Yes it is available for inspection if requested. I was at risk of being in an accident. No it has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service. No it has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance reps or others. No there were no warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. They first appeared as the failure was occurring. The second occurrence occurred on Sunday 10/5/2025. I was on a straight away part of the road when the power steering, stabilitrak failure occurred again just before I was slowing down to turn right into a parking lot. Yes it is available for inspection if requested. I was at risk of being in an accident. No it has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service. No it has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance reps or others. No there were no warning lights, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. They first appeared as the failure was occurring.

Gear steering and steering software power. Locks up while driving:

Almost daily now I'm getting a service power steering message and the power steering goes out. This is very dangerous! Something needs to be done!

The contact's grandmother owned a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that her grandfather was driving approximately 60 MPH on the freeway while her grandmother was occupying the front passenger's side seat. The contact stated that while the driver was attempting to switch to the right lane, the steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. The driver was unable to pull to the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights. The contact stated that another van driving 80 MPH crashed into the vehicle, and the van caught on fire; however, the vehicle of the contact's grandparents did not catch on fire. The vehicle was then rear-ended by three other vehicles, causing the bed of the vehicle to be smooshed into the cab, and the driver's side of the vehicle was smooshed into the center divider wall. The center divider wall might have been damaged. The driver sustained whiplash and was thrown across his wife's lap. The emergency services assisted the driver out of the vehicle and put the driver on a stretcher. The contact's grandmother was assisted out of the vehicle. The contact stated that only the driver's side and passenger's side curtain air bags deployed. The driver was transported to the hospital by emergency services. The contact stated that the driver sustained a crushed spine and severed lower nerves, causing the lower body paralysis. My electric power steering has failed more then twice on me, steering wheel pushed back against my efforts to steer. I don't feel safe and I have noticed this has happened to other owners of the 2015 GMC Canyon. I can't afford to repair something that should be a re-call.

My power steering randomly go out while driving the vehicle

Power Steering fails intermittently. Shows stibilitrack warning. Can sometimes be immediately fixed by turning the vehicle off/on. Sometimes it takes a while. I've had the steering fail in the middle of a turn causing an extreme amount of additional force. Problem is intermittent, and is covered under other recalls for the same model year.

Stabiltrak system stops working randomly all the time. It is seemingly random. It can do it as soon as I crank the truck, but more commonly it happens when I am driving. The ABS also will cause the truck to pull harder in one direction either left or right randomly. I have to put pressure on the steering will in the opposite direction to keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane. Stabiltrak sensor 1st went off around October 2023. It typically doesn't come back on immediately if I power cycle the truck. No accident to report yet but when the power steering does no work while I'm driving, it is extremely hard to turn.

Additionally, the contact stated that on one occasion while his wife was driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist functionality, the steering wheel became stiff, and the vehicle ran off the road into a ditch. The vehicle was undamaged and operable but needed to be pulled out of the ditch by the tow truck. The contact stated that the traction control and an unknown warning light was illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I bought this truck new in March 2015 there was a recall for the steering shortly after which I had done, everything was ok for three years. Then I had power steering failure. After shutting off and everything is normal, until it happens again. It is now 10 years old and it has hapened 7 times in 10 years. there is no pattern to the occurrences.

While driving the vehicle, or sometimes upon starting the vehicle, the Power Steering Assist will intermittently malfunction and I will have no power steering. When this happens while I am driving it puts me and others at risk because I have reduced my ability to steer. I have not had this diagnosed by the dealer, but I will soon. I have not had the component inspected by anyone at this time. When this occurs both the Power Steering Assist and Traction Control warning lights com on. I found a recall for this exact problem on the year and model of this truck. (Recall # N202325410) I called both my local dealer and GM Assistance and was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall. I am having the same problem that the safety recall is for and somehow my vehicle is not covered. This issue happens nearly every time I drive the vehicle.

Nov 14 2024 my truck steering locked up and lost lighting/ front lights including interior and crash into another vehicle head on going 65 mph. Also no airbag deployed. I hit my chest hard. Need help. Water damaged now after I crashed and now won’t start. Smoke wire smells so disconnected battery. I feel unsafe taking this vehicle in repair without any recalls. This happen all at one time, still paying the loan on the vehicle. Paid almost 29,000. Been in no fault account. Help. Need help reporting issues to insurance to fix the crashed truck or total loss this model. Was scary

After speaking with a GMC representative, they confirmed there isn’t any issues with the steering wheel sensor. Yet, I’m having trouble steering while driving. The code C0545 was mentioned as the source. No accidents have occurred but has come close. The police, insurance have been involved.

GMC issued a service bulletin #16019 stating that the HVAC temperature control valve (No. 15-51369) was prone to break causing the defrost to become inoperable. This is clearly a safety concern. However, GMC did not issue a recall. In addition, GMC had a limited time window for customers to address the problem. The dealerships were instructed to examine the part and if faulty, replace it. My GMC Canyon did not experience this problem until after the service bulletin expired. GMC stated that this was not a safety recall. Is visibility not a safety hazard?

While driving, the power steering stops working. I was traveling at approx 55 mph with my daughter in the car and the power steering quit. Alert lights came on the dash. I managed to slow down and turn off the highway. I turned the truck off and when I turned it back on it was fine. Drove for another 10 minutes to get home and it went out again at a stop light. I found a place to pull over and turned it off and back on and it stopped doing it again. There is a recall for this issue on this vehicle but evidently mine was not on the recall or was fixed prior to me owning it. I have not checked with the dealership, but I’m assuming it will be a large bill to get it taken care of. Hopefully it does not go out at a bad time.

In addition, the contact stated that several days following the recall repair, the squealing sound started. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the ABS warning light and the traction control warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stopped, turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to regain power steering functionality. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

The power steering will intermittently fail at random times. I can feel the change in the steering wheel, followed immediately by the warning message on the screen above the wheel reading "Stabilitrak Failure" and 4 loud chimes from the speakers. This first happened in June of 2022. When I turned the truck off and on again, the same warning appeared on the screen but power steering was restored. This didn't happen again until earlier this year (Feb 2024). This issue happened a few times at low speed, during which it was extremely difficult to steer. I narrowly avoided an accident both times due to quick breaking. I learned about recall bulletin 15595A which describes this issue for my make, model and year. I contacted GE about this issue but they pushed back continuously referencing the fact that my VIN was not part of the recall. They eventually agreed to inspect my truck to determine if my issue is the same as the recall, but only if I paid $250 for a diagnostic. I went to the dealership today and the manager told me everything would be out of pocket, including any repairs. He was not willing to note my case # 9-12939029688 and explicitly stated "this won't be covered no matter what". I left without performing the diagnostic so as not to waste time and money, as it was clear GM had not been communicating with the dealer as they promised during our phone calls. Currently my power steering fails almost every time I drive, typically within 20 minutes of starting up.

I experienced the loss of power steering while driving. It was almost impossible to steer the vehicle while driving. I went on line and noticed a recall for my exact vehicle of the exact problem. The recall bulletin 15595A, was dated February 2016 and explained that the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly was to be replaced. However, apparently my VIN number was not listed. I went to the dealer and it was diagnosed with Code C0545(power steering problem). The dealer recommended the same repairs as the recall notice. The dealer showed no interest in contacting GM to see if this can be fixed by this recall. They claimed because of the year and mileage that they would not move forward with this. I contacted GM myself and explained the situation. I was told that GM would not cost assist with this problem. I find it odd that GM recognized this issue as a real safety hazard on the same make, year and model of my vehicle and refuses to assist in the repairs. The mileage and year has nothing to do with this problem. The problem was and is an existing problem with this particular vehicle. This issue is a sporadic issue and and started approximately [XXX] and continues. I feel this problem is an existing problem with all of these year, makes and models whether the VIN number was listed or not!! It's an accident waiting to happen!! The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, he observed that the "Power Steering Service Required" and the stabili-trak warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel was very stiff, and excessive force was needed to turn the steering wheel. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the power steering functionality returned. The contact stated that the failure was a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that there was a failure of the steering gears and the electric power steering assist. The mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The contact researched online but found no recall associated with the VIN. The contact called a dealer, but the call was never returned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.

MY 2015 CANYON POWER STEERING GOES OUT. THERE HAVE BEEN 2 RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE, 21V213000 AND 16V054000. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED, BUT IS HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT IS ON THE RECALL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE AND THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO? CAN YOU ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE RECALL? IT IS GETTING WORSE.

I have had this car for 4 years and have had to replace 7 door locks. All quit working. The doors will not lock when the buttons are pushed which is a major security issue.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

I was driving my truck when, LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST AND MY DASHBOARD DISPLAYED WARNINGS. I was able to slow and pull off to the side and stop safely. I turned the car off and back on it cleared for a short time within that week it happened 3 other times. Years 2014-2015 have had several recalls for the steering. My truck was not on the recall but having the same issues.

Service brake assist light comes on and Vehicle loses braking power. Brake pedal gets hard and unable to stop if needed and has potential of injury / accidental death. This similar problem has been recalled in the larger trucks /SUVs due to safety issues. It appears it's also happening in the smaller truck's canyon and Colorado's as well, however no recalls. Many blogs online discussing the issues and failures of the braking system.

UNKNOWN: Power Steering fail while driving. Making it a serious safety and dangerous hazard. Making steering almost impossible to turn the wheel and I have to pull off to the side of the road, park, turn the engine off, wait a few minutes and turn the key (engine) back on. Most times it will reset and I have power again and sometimes it doesn’t. This has happened many times and I have called GMC to see if there’s a recall but they said none. I have taken it to my local mechanic and he stated that it can be an electrical related issue and told me to take it to GMC dealer repair shop in the area.
