2010 Four Winds Hurricane

Defect. Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Thor Challenger, Thor Citation, Thor Hurricane, Thor Tuscany, Thor Windsport, 2011-2012 Thor Astoria, Thor Avanti, Thor Chateau, 2011-2014 Thor Daybreak, 2011-2015 Thor Outlaw, Thor Siesta, 2014-2015 Thor Miramar, 2012 Thor Four Winds, 2008-2011 Damon Astoria, Damon Daybreak, Damon Outlaw, Damon Tuscany, 2008-2012, Damon Challenger, 2008-2010 Damon Essence, 2009-2011 Damon Avanti, Four Winds Chateau, Four Winds Citation, Four Winds Four Winds, Four Winds Hurricane, Four Winds Siesta, Four Winds Windsport, 2009-2010 Four Winds Dorado, Four Winds Dutchmen, Four Winds Magellan, Four Winds Mandalay and 2009 Four Winds Fun Mover, and Four Winds Presidio motorhomes. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.

Risk. Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Thor will notify owners, and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism and replace all of the affected bolts, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-855-2867. Thor's number for this recall is RC000111.

Defect. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Four Winds Hurricane and Windsport, 2009-2010 Four Winds Mandalay, 2010 Four Winds Magellan, and 2010-2011 Four Winds Serrano motorhomes manufactured May 2, 2009, to September 1, 2010. The affected vehicles are wired to be powered by a generator and are equipped with an Iota ITS-50R transfer switch that may fail when exposed to elevated electrical loads and used in higher ambient temperatures.

Risk. As the transfer switch fails, it may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. TMC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Iota ITS-50R transfer switch with a transfer switch from another manufacturer, free of charge. The recall began on November 23, 2015. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-855-2867. Thor's number for this recall is RC000106.

Defect. Thor Motorcoach is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 motorhomes, manufactured June 1, 2007, through May 1, 2009 and equipped with an Iota ITS-50R Transfer Switch. The models affected are Four Winds brand models: Chateau, Dutchmen, Hurricane, Windsport, Magellan, Fun Mover, Presidio, and Mandalay. Wiring connections inside the transfer switch are not adequate and, as a result, the switch may overheat.

Risk. An overheated switch could cause it to fail and lead to a fire.

Remedy. Thor Motorcoach will notify owners and replace the Iota Transfer Switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on November 16, 2012. Owners may contact Thor at 1-877-500-1020.

2010 FOUR WINDS HURRICANE. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR BATTERY CONTROL CENTER REPAIRS AND WRITES IN REGARDS TO REPLACEMENT OF LEAKING BLACK WATER TANK. *SMD THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM A REPRESENTATIVE STATING THE CLAIM WAS DENIED, BECAUSE THE INCIDENT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. HIS REASONING FOR DENYING THE CLAIM, WAS BECAUSE THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT POWER TO THE STARTER WAS LOST BECAUSE OF THE BCC FAILURE AND SINCE THE STARTER POWER DID NOT GO THROUGH THE BCC, THE INCIDENT COULD NOT BE RELATED. ALSO, THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE WATER TANK HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY DAMAGED AND REPAIRED. HE STATED A HOLE IN THAT PARTICULAR TYPE OF TANK, COULD NOT BE PERMANENTLY REPAIRED, BECAUSE THE REPAIR WOULD BEGIN TO LEAK WITHIN A FEW YEARS. THE CONSUMER STATED HE PURCHASED THE MOTORHOME BRAND NEW AND HE NEVER HAD THE TANK REPAIRED, SINCE HE OWNED IT.

THE CUSTOMER REPORTED AN INCIDENT WITH THEIR MOTOR-HOME. IT APPEARS THAT THE IOTA ITS50-R SWITCH FAILED WHILE IN USE. THE MOTOR-HOME WAS STATIONARY AND HOOKED INTO 50A SHORE POWER. THE CUSTOMER REPORTED THAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT THEY HEARD A POPPING NOISE AND SMELLED SOMETHING LIKE BURNING RUBBER. THE CUSTOMER CHECKED THE VOLTAGE AT THEIR OUTLETS AND FOUND THEY WERE RECEIVING 220/240V AT THE PLUGS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CUSTOMER FOUND THAT THE CONTROL BOARD ON THE IOTA ITS50-R HAD OBVIOUS SIGNS OF COMPONENT FAILURE. THE CUSTOMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER (NOW THOR) AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEIR MODEL DID NOT FALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN# 12V516000 DUE TO THE PRODUCTION DATE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS OFFERED TO SUPPLY THE CUSTOMER WITH A REPLACEMENT UNIT AT NO COST; BUT IS NOT COVERING THE COST OF INSTALLATION. THE CUSTOMER REPORTED THAT THE OVER-VOLTAGE CONDITIONS MAY HAVE ALSO CAUSED PERIPHERAL DAMAGE TO OTHER APPLIANCES. THE CUSTOMER ALSO EXPRESSED GREAT CONCERN WITH THE LOCATION OF THE IOTA ITS50-R IN THEIR MOTOR-HOME AS IT IS INSET BELOW THE BED IN THE MAIN BEDROOM. THERE WAS NO FIRE IN THIS CASE. *TR
