I was driving on a divided secondary road and my truck when into reduced power mode, displaying " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 55 down to under 30 +/- MPH. When it was necessary to stop at a light and I took my foot off the accelerator, the truck did not immediately slow but actually surged forward. After 'crawling' home, I had it flat-bedded to a dealership that day, and it took them almost 2 weeks and multiple test drives to tell me that that cannot recreate this issue. I was told by the service advisor that there was an issue and that could see it in the vehicles history. I went to the dealership and asked them how long they would keep testing it if they were not able to replicate the problems. They said 'it was up to me'. I took the vehicle home. We only had it for a day and less than 100 miles of driving and the problem occurred again, after dark, on a busy road in an intersection and the truck would not move at all for a few tense moments. The gear selector dial flashed repeatedly and the parking brake came on by itself. We had the truck flat-bedded back to the dealership the next day and it will stay there until the solution is found to eliminate this dangerous and life-threatening operational fault. The second incident occurred on March 26. Service to address 2 recalls was done on the vehicle on March 6.
2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2023 record →
Was driving down a highway at about 75 MPH when the vehicle automatically shifted to neutral and gave the following warnings on the dash: Gear selected will engage at low speed, Powertrain malfunction/reduced power, pre-collision assist is not available, service engine soon warning, service advancedtrac, hill assist not available. This is about a month after other recalls were ‘fixed’ and other ‘updates’ to software were installed.
While driving the vehicle the transmission (Ford eCVT) appeared to be stuck at a certain ratio and the engine shut off. The vehicle continued to move on the electric motor. Various warnings flashed on the screen, including a "vehicle will reengage gears at speed", "service engine", "service transmission", "hill start disabled/malfunctioning", "traction control malfunctioning/disabled". I pulled off the road into a neighborhood to stop the vehicle. Later when I tried to limp the vehicle home it would automatically accelerate as fast as the electric motor could push it whenever I lifted my foot off the brake (accelerating on its own). Vehicle is waiting to be inspected by the dealer and has not been driven since.
While driving up hill a check engine light and power train malfunction/ reduced power warning appeared. This caused my vehicle to be unable to accelerate and could have caused the vehicle that was behind me to collide with my vehicle. This is the second time this issue has happened and the dealer I have taken it to has been unable to figure out the issue. As far as I know only my dealer has inspected the vehicle and there were no other warning signs or messages before the malfunction happened.
On two separate occasions (27 February & 16 March) my 2023 Ford Maverick XLT lost power while driving at highway speeds giving the following alerts: • Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed • Powertrain malfunction/reduced power • Pre-collision assist not available • Service engine soon warning • Service AdvanceTrac • Hill assist not available After the dealer couldn’t recreate the issue in February they released the truck back to me. As of today, 26 March, the dealer still has my car after the 16 March incident.
While driving the following warnings all came on: Gear Selected Will Engage at Low Speed Powertrain malfunction/reduced power Pre-collision assist not available Service engine soon warning Service AdvanceTrac Hill assist not available Vehicle came to a stop and parking brake automatically engaged. Driver could not control acceleration, gas pedal had no control, and vehicle moved on it's own under electric power. Vehicle would continue accelerating, and the only want to try to control speed was used the brake. Symptoms persisted for several drive cycles, until all the warning lights went off (except for checking engine light), and vehicle went back to normal. After several more drive cycles the check engine light went off. This is the third time this potential life threatening issue has occurred. Dealer has not been able to resolve the issue.
Vehicle was going down the highway around 70 mph and suddenly warning message appeared on display that the select drive has been disengaged and the brake light ( lower right of instrument panel ! Red brake illuminated and the engine stop propelling engine and started to brake and slow down. Had to coast to the shoulder and car was not running and brakes were still applied even I was not applying the brakes . This is the second time it acquired. Second time was after Ford dealership had again done an ecm update and said the issue was resolved.
Driving at approximate 25 mph when three warnings came on simultaneously and the vehicle abruptly lost power and I was required to pull off the road. The vehicle could not go any faster than 15 mph. Fortunately I was not running on the highway when this occurred. The three warnings are as follows. 1. SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING 2. POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER 3. PRE-COLLISION ASSIST NO AVAILABLE The vehicle was towed to dealer and is awaiting diagnostics.
Vehicle at Ford dealer on 3/7/24 for two separate recalls, Emission Recall 23E09 and Compliance Recall Notice NHTSA 23V848 where the BCM and PCM were reprogramed and updated. The vehicle operated normally before the dealership service for the recalls. On 3/18/24 after the recall service was performed, while driving along a state route of speed limit 55, the vehicle suddenly lost power and displayed the following indications on dashboard: Service Engine Soon, Pre-Collision Assist not available, and Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced power. The vehicle was able to be pulled over safely to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted but at a significant loss of power with the same warning lights displayed. Safety was compromised as the vehicle lost power and speed and could only be operated a short distance. Thankfully other vehicles were able to avoid me at my significantly diminished speed and I was able to turn on warning flashers and pull to the side of the road no faster than 10mph. The vehicle was towed to a Ford dealer, who had the vehicle for 3 days, where they confirmed with their scan tools the warning lights had come on and the power had diminished when the incident happened, but were not able to reproduce the symptoms. Technician noted there were no SSMS or TSBS from Ford or otherwise for these concerns and was given back to me at no charge. Incident happened on March 18th, 2024 and is available for inspection.
Upon exiting highway and getting on access road, vehicle malfunctioned and indicated to slow down and shift transmission into neutral. I lost speed and was given little if any power to accelerate. I arrived at a red light where I shifted into neutral and then park. I shifted back to drive where I was able to get very little acceleration. I turned right, put on my hazards, and looked to park as quickly as possible. Even though I was driving slow I was also unable to fully brake, which was unsettling. I found a parking lot just a little ways up the road where I parked and called for a tow truck. The truck is currently at a local Ford dealer.
While operating my Ford Maverick truck at about 50 mph, I received two immediate warnings on the instrument panel. At the same time, the truck went into reduced power mode, displaying "Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power" and "Service Engine Soon". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 50 mph down to under 20 mph and the braking became very erratic. The vehicle would barely accelerate and I barely got it home at about 20 mph. It is now accelerating better but is still far from normal and the braking and hybrid systems are erratic.
- The truck attempts to accelerate by itself. No gas pedal pressure is required. - The brake still (thankfully) slows down and stops the truck, but if those brakes had failed, my spouse and children would have been in a wreck for sure. - No one has yet inspected the vehicle, but a service appointment has been requested. - MANY warning signals suddenly flashed: something about "hill climbing," something about AdvanceTrac, a collision warning. Those were all in the screen area. Also the following icons were lit: wrench, engine, slippery road, crash. These happened immediately before the incident. No prior warning. - We had recently (last week?) gotten some recall work done by Ford. - This is happening to other people, too. As soon as we were home, we found [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Was traveling at around 60 mph and multiple lights and warnings came up on the dash “powertrain malfunction” and “service advancetrac”. Power was reduced to a limp mode and I was forced to pull over on the highway. This happened within a week of having multiple software recalls carried out by a ford mobile technician. I was able to reset the codes with an obd scanner and haven’t had an issue since but I have read about this happening to multiple people with the same hybrid vehicle after having these recalls done.
[XXX] car malfunctioned in same ways it has been before. Car was going 76 on the highway, no cruise control, when a message about the gear shifting pops up and the accelerator stops working. Car begins to slow, and we pull over onto side of the highway. After getting down to about 40 parking break pops on and messages begin flashing through on the display saying: AdvanceTrac Off, Collision Assist Off, Parking Break On, Service System Soon, and all the warning lights such as check engine and slippery surface come on as well. Turned car off and waiting 5 minutes, then got back on highway. Car repeated this exact same process again after driving 3 more minutes going 76 with no cruise control. Here is a link to a video taken the first time this happened on this day: [XXX] Car had been taken to have this exact issue repaired the previous week and held over night on [XXX]. This is the second time that the car has been taken to be repaired for this issue. The first time I was told it is a computer melt down. The second I was told that the recalls that they fixed they did not fix entirely, and that it should be fine now. The contact's son owned a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact was filing a complaint on behalf of his deceased son. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed and making a right-corner turn, the vehicle turned onto the left shoulder, which was covered in dirt and gravel, and skidded 164 feet into a large tree. The vehicle then rotated about 90–100 degrees and caught fire. The contact stated that the fire started in the engine compartment. The police and fire department arrived on the scene, and the fire department extinguished the fire. The contact stated that a state trooper informed him that the crash was caused by excessive speed. The contact's son remained inside the vehicle when it caught fire and died as a result of the fire; however, the contact's son was unable to be identified due to severe burns from the fire. Police and fire department reports were filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The insurance company was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. The contact stated the vehicle has been moved to a storage lot and held for inspection.
I was driving around in city traffic and all of the sudden a message popped up on my screen that said "gear will engage at lower speed" and lost all power. I coasted into the nearest parking lot and it slammed me to a stop when i got slow enough and put the parking brake on. It then thew a bunch of codes saying service soon, something regarding advancetrak, and the check engine light came on. I then turned the car off and back on which made only the check engine light come on so i tried to at least make it home and i accelerated to 20mph and lost power again. threw the same codes at me too. At that point i got into another parking lot and it got towed to mcree. I believe what the cause was a ford guy came by the house a week ago to do a recall and reprogrammed the computer system. I read online that a guy had the recall done a week ago and the same thing happened to him. That same guy said that he brought it to his ford dealer and they are on their 3rd attempt at fix it as the problem keeps occurring. lets hope that doesn't happen..
Vehicle loses communication between control modules & goes into a limp-home mode. Has happed 3 times when doing highway speed driving on cruise control. Lots of alarms are posted including forward collision warning, emergency braking & traction control not working. Check Engine Light lights. Vehicle power is shutdown to low level. There is loss of throttle response. I pulled over to side of road because display messaging said that it wants to shift gear but must wait until vehicle slows. When slowing to near a stop, but still going 1-2mph (estimate), the vehicle slammed into park & put the Parking Brake on. I can acknowledge warning messages, take Parking Brake off, & select Drive. Then vehicle tries to move at 35mph of its own & w/o any throttle input. In fact, the throttle is unresponsive in this mode. The electric traction motor and/or engine will try to maintain 35mph -- forward or REVERSE -- &will apply power as needed to sustain that speed. Thankfully, the braking power will overcome the powertrain drive power & I can stop. The communication issue has happened to a couple other Maverick vehicles in the country, but I don't know whether they've experienced the vehicle trying to go 35mph on its own w/o any throttle input. This going 35mph in limp-home mode -- in forward and in reverse, and w/o any throttle input -- is a horrible fail-safe response & seems very unsafe to me. It is hard to gently back into a parking spot. Losing power while driving because of the whole comm
Truck died in the middle of a busy road. I was able to pull over and let it sit. Started it up, got another couple miles down the road, and it died again. Full plethora of warning messages. Let it sit some more - it started and I was able to drive it home. Pulled the codes: U1011 and U1028.
[XXX] car malfunctioned. First said that the gear was working incorrectly, then accelerator stopped working and Drive light on gear shifter started blinking. I pulled over to the shoulder and the brakes continued to work, and all the messages in my video came up. I started on cruise control going 78 then once I got to [XXX] my parking break came on. Once stopped I tried to go back into drive, which didn't work. The car would not go forward, almost as if it was attached to something. I turned the car on and off several times trying to get the parking break off. After I believe the third time I turned off the car, I left it off for about a full minute before turning it back on. The lights on the car went off except the check engine light, and the emergency brake light, though it finally let me turn the break off and switch into drive. I drove the last 4 minutes home without incident. This links to a video I took after I got onto the side of the highway showing what was happening on my display. I took my ford Maverick to dealer for the recalls for three recalls: 24c01,23c41 & 23e09. About 1 hr later driving on highway the engine lost all power, gearshift knob was flashing; warnings started flashing , hill start assist not available, service soon, pre collision assist not available, service power trac( I think) , check engine light came on & a wrench illuminated on dash. Went from 55-60 mph to a crawl in a few seconds. Fortunately was able to pull off-road. As soon as I touched brake pedal the emergency brake applied automatically & I slammed to a halt. After about 5 minutes & turning ignition on & off a few times everything worked again. Check engine light remained on but turn off the next day. I called dealership and they had no idea. Said to bring in again. This occurred on 3/6/24 and again on 3/10/24, both times identical situation. Both times I was fortunate no one behind me and room to get pull on shoulder. I posted this on the Maverick forum online only to discover it is happening to many people that have had the recalls done. Some their engines stopped on the freeway, going from 70 to a crawl in seconds. One person mentioned they almost got nailed by an 18 wheeler rig. I called the dealership to let them know what I found out online and they had no idea or how to correct. Whatever the recall did ( seems to be the recall associated with emissions - from online discussions) ford needs to correct. This type situation is an accident waiting to happen and putting
I have owned my 2023 Ford Maverick for, coming up on 14 months. It's been well taken care of it, serviced every 2-3 months, and not driven hard or abused. Last month the engine shuts off as the truck is parked in a gym parking lot. My FordApp was reading a powertrain malfunction. The truck gets towed to the dealership for servicing. Their go-to fix for the error code is to replace a module for the hybrid battery. After doing so the truck broke down a second time 2 minutes after starting up. A Ford engineer looked into it and decided the solution would be to remove the module/hybrid battery? and install high-voltage harnesses into the vehicle and then reinstall everything into those high-voltage harnesses. Parts are ordered; a full week and 40 hours of labor later, they start the truck and it shuts off again 2 minutes later, sending the same error code. A field engineer is sent out, and he now is recommending an entirely new transmission be installed. Parts are ordered and an eta of 2 weeks has been given for this repair to be made. A 14-month-old, brand-new truck has been in the dealership shop for 4 full weeks and is expected 2 more weeks for this selected repair. The truck could have broken down anywhere, at anytime! Who knows if you could have been driving or in a bad area... The high voltage harnesses also worry me because of lithium batteries already having a history as a fire risk, and now this sounds like it can increase the electrical flow capacity. Seriously concerni
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while in the process of towing a trailer, he connected the trailer electrical cable to the vehicle; however, while towing the trailer and engaging the driver's side turn signal, the driver's side turn signal on the trailer was inoperable. An "Error" message was displayed. The contact stated that when he towed the trailer with other vehicles, the trailer driver's side and passenger's side turn signals were operable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V848000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 5,500.
Hello! I just had RECALLS completed on [XXX] and drove car on [XXX] at 75mph speed (in Texas) and within 1 hour of driving the vehicle began flashing same issue mentioned and brought speed down to MAX 35mph with NO FOOT on pedal. Almost got hit by 18 wheeler! Took it to dealer and 300 miles plus they drove and could not replicate issue. Gave vehicle back and it happened again [XXX] at 70mph ... Definitely believe it was the update that caused the issue. Extremely dangerous and SCARY too say the least to have the vehicle stop at such high speeds and have almost no control. While attempting to turn left at an intersection, my hybrid vehicle suddenly became unresponsive. The dashboard lit up with several warnings and it would only idle using its electric motor. It would then accelerate to top electric-only speed despite me not applying my foot to the accelerator. My safety and others was put at risk because I was turning left at a busy intersection. My local dealer (from whom I purchased the vehicle) cleared the errors and then drove several hundred miles without any errors and without replicating the problem.
My 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid had a horrible issue[XXX] I had two recalls (23e09B and 23C41B) done last Friday [XXX] (and an oil change) at Huntington Beach Ford, CA. Yesterday [XXX] I was driving with my daughter to go get food, and while stopped at a light I got numerous error messages and the truck would not move. It was extremely dangerous as I was on the road with cars all around me. I don't remember all the messages but some were Pre-Collision Assist not available, Service AdvanceTrac soon, Hill Start Assist not available, Service Vehicle Soon and a Check Engine Light. Eventually I got the truck to move, but it started accelerating on its own via electric power. Luckily the brakes worked and I was able to pull aside to a side street, stop the vehicle, and have it towed to Huntington Beach Ford, CA. The check engine light is still on, and I believe one of the recalls that reprogrammed the ECU caused this huge safety issue. I have also opened up a case with Ford Corporate ([XXX]) as this is a huge safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Twice in one week the vehicle displayed a powertran error and reduced speed to 30mph. Both instances I was traveling on the highway and was able to exit safely
- Lithium Battery risk- "deep sleep" vehicle goes into deep sleep and is dark, no interior lights. SSM 51725 was performed - what it accomplished was removing the APP notification of deep sleep, not the problem. There are numerous similar complaints on the "Maverick forum", usually with the recommendation to "drive more", initially a poor battery connection was thought to be the problem, that has been resolved. The battery has been tested and been to be found in compliance - the issue is not the starting capacity but in the reserve capacity or the battery management system. Some are AGM some are flooded the risk is hybrid owners are carrying battery jump boxes for safety and reliability, OEM battery replacement is a struggle at the dealership, once deep sleep issues hit, battery issues change to not starting. The danger is that the owner is using a portable jump box in risky situations plus the always risk of carrying an additional lithum battery in the passenger compartment for reliability. Many owners have replaced the original battery, out of pocket, with good results
I was driving on a freeway and my vehicle went into "Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power mode " and slowed me down from 65 -70 miles an hours to under 20 miles an hour. This almost cause a semi to slam into the back of my vehicle missing me by inches. The dealership is unable to recreate this issue but confirmed it did happen. Ford and the dealership have been giving me a run around with this since they can't diagnose the issue.
VEHICLE PROPULSION SYSTEM (ENGINE AND HYBRID SYSTEM) QUIT WITHOUT WARNING ON A BUSY FREEWAY. WOULD NOT RESTART WHILE MOVING AND ATTEMPTING TO GO TO SAFE AREA. AFTER PARKING ON SIDE OF FREEWAY AND SHUTTING OFF ALL ENGINE RELATED SYSTEMS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND CONTINUE. SAFETY: NOT SAFE TO PARK IN MIDDLE OF FREEWAY. NO INDICATIONS OF PROBLEM ON ANY INSTRUMENTS. FUEL WAS AT ABOUT 5/8 FULL. TAKING CAR BACKTO CARMAX TOMORROW UNDER 30 DAY RETURN POLICY.
This is my second complaint on this vehicle for the same issue. While driving on the interstate my vehicle suddenly loses all power and shuts off. After the initial incident the vehicle was sent to a ford dealership. It was stated on repair order that: found code u1010: invalid internal control module monitoring data reveived from hybrid pcm Correction ford states to check for updates clear codes and retest, if no issues comes back communication network got crowded The vehicle was released to me and the same issue occurred approximately 45 minutes into my trip hard. This is very dangerous to be happening with no resolution from Ford.
As I was driving along the highway the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion. The electric shifter indicated the vehicle was no longer in drive and several errors/warnings appeared on the dash including “Pre-collision assist not available, Powertrain Malfunction/reduced power, and service engine soon”. No error messages were visible prior to this occurring. The vehicle can be made available upon request. It is currently at the dealer for the second time for this issue in the last 3 days. Both times the vehicle was rendered unusable in high speed/highway traffIc, putting both myself and fellow motorists at risk by forcing me to coast through a line of cars to reach the shoulder. Also, being on the side of the highway as cars fail to move over for the disabled vehicle poses its own risk to my safety as well as other motorists. The second incident occurred at approximately 7pm march 7th along the same highway and in identical fashion. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer, however, they identified and cleared the error codes stored by the vehicle. The service manager said he believed it was a result of a recent recall software update. The ford dealership that sold me the car has inspected the vehicle. My assessment is that this issue is related to a recent update performed by ford service regarding a recall/s. This vehicle was just serviced for its 30k maintenance and received the recall update/s and since then has broken down and been towed to the dealer twice.
On occasion, at slow speeds, typically when coming to a slow stop (such as at a stop sign or light), the vehicle's brakes appear to "grab", car "shutters", feels as if car's brakes are locking or vehicle is about to turn off. I am the original owner of this vehicle, less than 7,000 miles, this problem has happened approximately 10 times. This problem could have resulted in a dangerous situation, the last time this happened someone was crossing in front of me at a crosswalk and I was not sure vehicle was going to stop.
Brakes grab unpredictably when slowing to a stop. When car has slowed from higher speeds down to less than 6 mph, the brakes suddenly grab, stopping the vehicle without warning. The degree of grabbing is never the same twice, happens almost every time I stop. It is especially bad after vehicle has been parked for a period of time, and is noticeably worse in moist conditions. I feel that this condition can cause a car behind me to possibly hit me. My FORD dealer has had service tech drive it and confirm this is occurring, but they have thus far been unable to apply a fix.
While on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly shut off, leaving the instrument panel fully lit with every warning light. The vehicle was unresponsive and powerless, posing an extremely hazardous situation for myself, passengers and others on the road. After I was able to get into a safe location I attempted to start the vehicle again. It remained unresponsive for quite some time and the vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. A quick google search indicates this issue is becoming prevalent in the Ford Maverick.

Driving on highway when all warning lights came on the dash, including the messages: AdvanceTrac Off Collision Assist Off Parking Break On Service System Soon. My brakes and accelerator stopped working, and the car immediately started slowing down. I started pulling over but didn't even make it all the way out of the lane. I changed gears, but could not go Forward, emergency brake was on but wouldn't let me turn it off. It did let me put my hazards on. I kept attempting to change gears, and eventually the emergency brake went off and I could shift into drive and pull out of the highway lane. The truck was towed to the shop, and they told me on the phone there was an open recall on the emergency brake. They have not figured out the problem or been able to replicate the issue.

I experienced violent vibration of the front end of this vehicle that started 4 months after purchased from factory delivery to dealership. Tires in front went bald at 5000 miles and over the next 3 months vibration in front end worsened, causing excess wear on the second set of tires. Ford Motor Company was unable to get the defective axles replaced due to poor supply and lack of properly diagnosing the issue initially. I belong to a Ford Maverick Club and this issue is widespread with the 2022 and 2023 models with some dealerships telling customers that there is no danger in driving with the defective CV Joints in the front end and others being instructed not to drive until they can be replaced. Neither of the two dealerships that inspected my car were aware of this widespread issue with the front end CV joint defect. I waited 2 months for the axles to arrive at the dealership and needed to replace all four tires when the new axles were installed. My vehicle was only 11 months old with less than 15,000 miles.
The brakes on my 2023 Ford Maverick (Hybrid) are very grabby at low speeds, usually just before coming to a stop. They are also very noisy especially after a hard rain. I have experienced one incident where the brakes did not want to stop the truck until after a long pause. When I stop, my passengers will lunge forward. I do not have confidence that the brakes will perform as required in an emergency situation. I realize that this has been an ongoing problem with the 2022 and 2023 hybrid models.
Water is leaking into the vehicle from the windshield cowl causing mold and wet passenger front carpets. It will be going to the dealer for the third time on Tuesday, December 26th to attempt to fix. The vehicle smells of mold and may be a health hazard. I cannot park it outside without fear the problem will get worse.
Brakes tend to "grab" and aggressively stop the truck at or below 6 miles per hour. It feels like the emergency forward braking system is activating to avoid an accident. But there isn't anything in front of the vehicle. This seems to occur more often during first 15 minutes of driving after startup in the morning (especially when it's cold outside) while vehicle is utilizing motor and braking to recharge batteries. During this timeframe, the brake "grabbing" is more frequent and more pronounced (powerful and sudden). It's like two systems are "fighting" against one-another. But the brake grabbing isn't just occurring during the first 15 minutes of driving. It still occurs occasionally regardless of the time driving the vehicle. I've attempted to "conform" and "adapt" my braking to address the brake grabbing tendency. But the issue isn't doesn't always occur with each braking and the manner in which the braking system brakes thus making it almost impossible for me to "train" my braking to address or overcome the braking characteristics of the hybrid Maverick. I've had to accept that regardless of how I brake, the vehicle is going to "grab" occasionally.
Turned the corner to accelerate at normal speed up a slight incline, and gas pedal stopped working. Typically when accelerating up a hill, the gauge on the left will move past the green "battery" section and the engine will kick on, but this time nothing happened. The vehicle slowed to a stop, and I put in park, then put in drive again and it worked seemingly fine. No check engine or any other warning lights were on. This issue has been experienced by several people in the Ford Maverick Hybrid online forum, so I'm not alone. I'm concerned that if this happens when turning onto a road, or merging onto a highway, it could be very dangerous.
This morning I was driving to work (65mph cruise control, 45 degrees F outside, heated seats ON), out of nowhere I felt myself slowing down right after I went over a railroad track (pretty decent bump) on the highway. As I was slowing down I noticed that my cruise control had turned itself off and when trying to turn it back on (pressing set+, set-, and the toggle CC on/off button) it wasn't responding. After realizing that setting my cruise control wasn't working I tried accelerating on my gas pedal but nothing was happening and I was still slowing down. I tried again and noticed that when I accelerated, the needle on the left side gauge wasn't going past the green battery section even when accelerating harder than normal. Everything in the vehicle seemed to be working properly as far as power steering, lights, breaking, dashboard, etc. Eventually I pulled over to the side of the road, put it in park, put it back in drive, and everything was fine for another 70 miles on the day.
225/65R17 SIDEWALL BLEW OUT AND TOOK TO MAVIS THEY SAID YOUR OTHER 3 TIRES ARE GOING TO FAIL THEN TOOK TO DEALER THEY SAID SIDEWALL INDENTATION IS NORMAL.
I have had this issue since I got my Ford Maverick. The brakes are very abrupt and grabby at slow speeds and it makes the vehicle extremely difficult and unsafe to operate in pick up lanes, parking lots, stop and go traffic and many more situations. I had a service appointment where ford updated modules in the truck however, still have the problem where trying to use the brakes on this truck, is always a very abrupt bump to a stop. When you're gradually & smoothly decelerating to a stop, near the last moment you get a very abrupt bump, lurch forward, jerk to a stop. It's as if the hybrid truck does not transition from regenerative braking to pad on rotor well.
I have an issue where my Ford Maverick sometimes, randomly will be nudging, surging, or pulsing forward (I'm not sure how to describe it) despite your foot being on the brake. It occurs most often on cold mornings, when you first start the truck, have your foot on the brake and shift from park to drive, before you release the brake (take your foot off the pedal) you notice the truck is going: bump bump bump bump bump, like a forward nudge push forward. Even though this has mostly occurred first thing in the morning it has occurred at other times while stopped at a red light, stopped in front of a pedestrian crosswalk, and stopped in front of school + children. It's really concerning the despite having your foot on the brake the truck is still trying to lurch forward.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
