Hitting a bump while driving at freeway speed will result in an uncontrollable shake of the truck that sometime force the truck to move from lane to lane. The shake will continue until the truck slow down to about 20 MPH. The dealer has the truck for 2 weeks but they could not find any issue and return the truck back without any repair and stated that the truck is safe to drive. They refuse to do the test drive.

I was driving down the highway and for some unknown reason the front end of my truck started shaking violently. I had to pull over to the side of the highway to get it to stop. This has happened previously but not nearly as bad as I only slowed down to get the shaking to stop.
My truck now has what’s called the Ford Death Wobble. This is 100% factory problem and has happened to many trucks. I demand a recall
I was driving in the freeway approximately 70 mph when the truck drove over a small imperfection in the road and immediately started to shake violently and uncontrollably (often referred to as death wobble) I left off of the gas and as the vehicle slowed to 50 mph the shaking went away. This shaking is very violent and takes away from the drivers ability to control the vehicle in a safe manner amongst traffic on a busy freeway. Of the brake is pressed the shaking becomes worse until the vehicle slows. I took the truck to the dealer which the dealer advised that there was a recall on the steering dampener and replaced it stating that will relieve the truck of a death wobble . However, this did not fix the issue as I took it on the freeway and experienced the same exact issue. The truck has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer. No lights or warnings were given at any time before during or after r the incident.
The steering feels loose as it would in an older worn out vehicle. It causes the truck to drift and requires constant correction to stay in the lane. The greater concern is the occasional violent wobble that happens when hitting a bump at high speeds. Last week the truck went into a violent shake after hitting a pothole and nearly sent me off the shoulder of the road. I was barely able to keep the truck from going off an embankment. This is a extremely dangerous issue that FORD needs to address before someone gets killed.
While driving at 70 MPH on interstate 75 in Ohio, there where a couple of small bumps in the road ( not pot holes) that we drove over in the lane. Felt the truck start to vibrate through the steering wheel and within about 1-2 seconds the whole vehicle started shaking. it was a VERY violent shaking that came through the steering wheel. I had to apply the brake and move to shoulder and stop the vehicle before the shaking stopped. ( it probably stopped shaking at a speed less than 20mph however i was not looking at the speedometer) i consider us lucky as we were already in the right lane and did not have to cross other lanes to get to safety. had there been traffic behind us or next to us this could have been a very different situation, putting those in the vehicle at risk as well those driving around or near us.
As the vehicle is driven, it'll suddenly shake so violently, I can barely keep it straight, and my wife can barely hold on to the steering wheel. This 1st happened July 2020, and we thought it was the poor condition of the road...but since, we have almost been bounced off the road and were very fortunate there was no on coming traffic, so many times, my wife will not drive the truck....and the passengers who've been with us when this has happened , will not ride again in the vehicle....never were we driving over 65 when any of these incidents happen...typically around 50-55.....I originally thought the truck had rough suspension, because any time the road conditions were not perfect, this would happen in small increments, I thought it was the suspensions...but since July 2020, we have to try to pull the truck over (which is difficult as we have little if any control of the steering ) and come to a complete stop, to get control of the truck....
Violent steering wheel shaking at speeds 55 - 65 mph.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH, the steering wheel started shaking significantly and the front end of the vehicle started bouncing from side to side, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then veered to the side of the road. The contact depressed the brake pedal until he was able to regain control of the vehicle. The contact continued to drive; however, the failure reoccurred several times the same day. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced the death wobble, causing the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic. The contact was able to pull over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer replaced the damper on the steering linkage. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
The power open tailgate will randomly open without any initiation from the operator either from the key fob, dash mounted release button or tailgate release handle. This occurred several times including while the vehicle was parked, while backing out of the driveway and while going down a side street at low speeds. During these uninitiated tailgate openings, a clicking noise can be heard from the passenger's side footwell presumably coming from the relay. Damage did occur to the tailgate during one occasion when it opened by itself and struck a wall. This can potentially be a significant safety issue if the tailgate unintentionally opens while driving on the road either by striking a vehicle behind it or causing the payload to fall from the bed of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated she restarted the vehicle and continued driving to her destination. The contact stated she had experienced the failure twice. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,440.
On a recent trip I experienced violent shaking to the front end of my Ford F250 Super Duty truck. It typically occurred at speeds over 65 miles per hour. It happened after going over bumps or grooves in the road. To stop the shaking, I had to quickly slow way down or even stop completely.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, he noticed that the front end of the vehicle was shaking. The contact drove to a local mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed with a steering linkage failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,590.
I get the "death wobble" when traveling at hwy speeds. Violent wheel shake, almost uncontrollable steering.
Driving on highway at 65 mph, hit expansion joint bump--relatively large bump--and experienced the "death wobble" of the steering wheel shaking violently and seeming loss of control (no sway or pull, but difficulty holding the steering wheel itself). Had to slow to almost 40 MPH in highway traffic to regain stability/control of vehicle. Vehicle has ~18000 miles on it at time of incident. No warning lamps or messages. I have not had the vehicle in yet for inspection.
Tailgate opens when driving ,taken it to Ford dealer several times and tailgate still opens on its own when driving. Dealer cannot find issue.Opened again after coming home from dealership I called Ford motor company and they told me that if issue couldn't be duplicated Ford could not help me with this Safety Issue This has been going for at least 1 1/2 yrs
When traveling at about 55 mph I hit a rough patch in the road on Missouri Hwy 30. The truck started shaking, shimming, bouncing, and wobbling severely, and kept on doing so for an extended period of time and distance traveled. I'm guessing another 100 yards or so. I was able to keep control, but had to slow down and pull over to get it stopped and to get my self calmed down too. It has not happened again as dramatically, but I've been very carefully avoiding road hazards. It does shake more than usual with any unevenness in the pavement. The dealers locally say 6-8 weeks to get an appointment to look at it. Ridiculous!
WE TURNED ON OUR REAR WINDOW DEFROST FOR THE 1ST TIME SINCE WE LIVE IN PHOENIX AND HAD NO REAL USE FOR IT. WITHIN 2 MINUTES THE WHOLE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED DROPPING GLASS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAB. MY SON WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT WE ARE AWARE OF. I HAVE PICTURE OF THE INCIDENT I CAN SEND. I NEED TO GET IT REPLACED ASAP SO INSPECTION WOULD HAVE TO OCCUR WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. IT HAS NOT YEP BEEN INSPECTED BY INSURANCE OR DEALERSHIP. INSURANCE IS REPLACING THE GLASS TOMORROW
While driving approx 50 mph, steering wheel began shaking violently. This continued until I came to a complete stop. Approx two weeks later vehicle did it a second time. Also noticed that when turning vehicle into my garage at low speed steering had a popping sound when turned about 3/4 of turn.
On 03/15/2022 if just had my first experience with the "Ford Death Wobble" at 70mph on interstate 64 in Virginia, I was able to control this with out damage to other cars on the interstate and was able to pull the truck onto the shoulder and stop. After researching last night online I was able to find this has been an on going problem for Ford. I purchased this vehicle new in November 2019 and according to the tags this truck just left the factory in October 2019. Looks like that Ford contacted dealers about the problems for repairs and stated that letters would be sent to owners, but in my case no letter was sent and my address has not changed in 28 years. They had extended the warranty on the front end to 3years or 100,000 miles for repairs. But here is the problem unless you hit a seam or pothole at high speed you will not know about this problem and I need to travel to my job ever day 200 miles round trip and this was the first time this happen to me with the death wobble and currently I have 107,000 miles on this truck and this Ford problem more than likely will not be covered under Ford CSP warranty since this is not a "Recall" this is VERY DANGEROUS!
While traveling on a paved roadway at approximately 55 miles per hour, I hit a small bump in the roadway and the steering wheel began shaking violently. This continued until I slowed and came to a near stop.
I was driving down the interstate at approximately 70 miles per hour I hit a bump going over a bridge and the front end of my truck started shaking violently and almost made me wreck I had to come to a complete stop before it would stop shaking
The front end suspension causes the entire front end to shake uncontrollably then travels to bed of the vehicle. It makes the vehicle difficult to control, and we have had to stop or slow to below 40 mph to gain control.
If I go around 50 mph my truck shakes very badly.
I have a ford f250 that now has the death wobble. [XXX] near ran me off the road. Very scary situation while driving. I have an appointment for an independent service center to take a look at it Monday of next week. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Death wobble occurs on highway at speeds from 50mph to 75mph
On multiple occasions now I have experienced the F-250 "Death Wobble" while driving on the interstate. After hit a regular sized bump in the road the vehicle begins shaking violently, feeling as though a tire has blown. In both instances I was driving the speed limit (70 mph). The entire truck shakes violently, specifically the front end, cab, steering. Only by slowing down quickly does the shaking stop. It is extremely dangerous as it feels like I will lose control of the vehicle. On both occasions I stopped an inspected for tire or wheel damage and saw none. I could have easily lost control of the vehicle and caused serious injury or death. I had the alignment done on the vehicle when I bought it late last year - there were no issues/concerns from the technicians. There are no warnings or messages in either instance. Initially, I thought the first time it happened was a one time occurrence and I was the only one in the vehicle. The second time my family was in the vehicle with me, they were very scared.
Traveling 70 mph on highway and went over an over pass. Upon hitting the bump at the transition to the bridge the truck began shaking violently and I was forced to slow to a complete stop in order to regain control.
I have experienced over 5 times a severe wobble/shaking of my steering wheel at speeds around 50-55 or when I hit a bump in the road. The steering wheel shakes violently. Balance and alignment are fine.
The front end of the vehicle started shaking violently. I almost lost control of the vehicle while driving 65mph due to this. I had to slow down to 20mph on the highway to get the steering wheel and front end to stop the violent shakes. This problem is extremely dangerous and I hope it never has to be reproduced. I have an appointment with the dealer in a few days. Their suggested repair is to replace the steering damper. There were no warning lights, messages, or system errors with the vehicle.
While driving at approximately 65 mph, I experienced an extremely violent front end wobble that shook the entire front end of my truck. Steering control was greatly affected and I had to slow down below 40 mph before it quit. I continued on my way to work not exceeding 50 mph. This was a very traumatic and unnerving experience. Luckily, I was on a straight away portion of the highway. I do not think I could have maintained my lane if I had been in a curve. Fortunately, vehicles around me were not close by in case I had totally lost steering control. No other vehicles were affected. My truck had less than 35,000 miles on it at the time of occurrence. Prior to this episode, my steering was largely unaffected. I took my truck to the local dealer to get this fixed. The steering damper was replaced. No other components were replaced at this time. Time will tell if this is the cure.
The backup camera, located in the tailgate, is so distorted it is almost useless. In certain lighting, day and night, it is useless. The camera that looks into the truck bed - located at the top/back of the cab - is incredibly clear and visible. The problem lies in the backup camera. I have nearly hit multiple things due to the lack of visibility. Fortunately, I have not hit anything/had an accident. But the camera, along with the front camera (which is not as critical), is clearly faulty. The image is incredibly blurry. I have tried cleaning it, all research indicates the camera is not sealed well and moisture gets inside the camera. Replacing it with an OEM part does not solve the issue. Please recall these cameras before someone gets hurt.
We were driving on the highway 74 in NC going roughly 65 mph and passed over some bumps in the roadway. The truck went into a violent jerking of the steering wheel back and forth and would not stop until we slowed down and pulled off the freeway. This has now happened approximately 5 times. We no longer feel safe to drive on the freeway at highway speeds nor do we feel safe pulling our horse trailer. Pulling horse trailers is the reason we bought the truck. My daughter, who is a relatively new driver, was driving and this was very frightening to both of us. This is very unsafe and any trucks that could potentially have this issue need to be recalled and fixed free of charge to the consumer.
At speeds of 50MPH or more, the vehicle and steering wheel violently shakes uncontrollably after a bump or groove in the road is contacted under normal driving and road conditions. The only way to correct the issue is to slow to a stop.
Truck shakes whenever I hit a small pot hole
Violent steering wheel oscillation after hitting a bump as we were going about 50 mph
While driving this 2019 F-250 truck, all of a sudden the truck began to shake violently. Not only the whole truck, but the steering wheel was shaking violently as well. I was scared to death. This has happened on the interstate where I was in the left lane passing a tractor trailer and no sooner did I get passed then my truck began this "Death Wobble." I had no place to pull over to my left, so I had to pull right in front of the truck that I just passed, braking as hard as I could while moving to the right shoulder. An extremely dangerous situation. I can only imagine if this had happened to my wife! Fortunately, I had read about this condition prior to it happening. My truck only has 15,000 miles on it. This Death Wobble has been around since 2005 on Ford F-250 trucks, yet Ford and their dealers seem to pretend that they know nothing about it. And yes, I have had this safety hazard occur several times. This is a very serious safety issue. You have no warning lights or signals that the death wobble is imminent. I can even reproduce it if need be. It has happened several times since December 2021. You can see many incidents of this by either searching on line or by going to YouTube and typing in Death Wobble.
I have experienced the death wobble/steering shaking issue with my 2019 F250 previously, but the latest incident was the worst as it happened while towing my camper. I was initially driving at around 60mph, drove over a small bump and the wobble started. The only way I know of to stop the wobble is to slow down immediately to around 25mph, this is very dangerous obviously as you have less control due to the wobbling, and quickly slowing down on a busy four lane highway endangers others. The steering did the same wobble six times during my 150 mile trip, one time so severe I could not see straight as the vehicle was wobbling so hard. I purchased my truck around a year ago with 26k miles, it now has around 36k miles - no where near enough miles in my opinion for the steering components to be worn out. I have experienced the issue since I purchased the truck, I had not fixed it myself as I was waiting for the manufacturer to issue a recall and fix the truck.
I believe there may be a defect in either the steering or front suspension system. when traveling at 70 MPH or higher the vehicle will violently shake and feels as if the tires are bouncing off the pavement when the truck drives over an expansion joint on an overpass. The bouncing/ shaking escalates within seconds and feels as if the truck will destroy itself. the truck needs to be stopped for the bouncing to stop and feels as if there is very little control over the steering of the vehicle. the problem is reproduced frequently and i have had to lower my speed before reaching overpasses. The vehicle will be scheduled for a service soon. The dealer mentioned something about adding a steering dampener to resolve the issue. there are no warning lamps or alarms. The issue would happen daily if i did not reduce my speed. The issue is serious especially if there are others on the highway and you need to stop quickly to get the vehicle under control. The first time the issue appeared was at about 36000 miles and is more frequent now at 40,000 miles.
Driving down the highway pulling our 5th about 65 mph when I had to make a sudden stop. The truck steering wheel a front end started to shake violently and almost caused me to wreck. Stopped shaking when my speed was About 35 mph.
I was driving on an interstate at 80mph when I hit a bump in the road. This happened on December 15, 2021. The front end of my truck went into a horrendous death wobble. I immediately slowed down and pulled to the side and stopped. When I started back on the interstate the front end was fine. I purchased this as a used truck on November 9, 2021. I then was driving on a county road at 50mph, hit a bump and the front end again went into a horrendous death wobble. This happened on February 7, 2022. I was able to slow down, pull into a median and stop. As before, pulling back onto the road the truck was fine.
When I left work my tailgate was closed and had not been opened for several days. When I got home, my tailgate was open and all my tools had fallen out of the truck. My truck was serviced 2 years ago for this type of issue. The repair needed to be done twice as the first time my tailgate would no longer open at all.
While traveling, Extreme violent shaking of vehicle while driving East on busy Interstate 24, between Paducah, Ky and Knoxville, TN. Our destination is Myrtle Beach. We were driving 70 MPH, road had multiple bumps, weather & road conditions were dry . Traffic was heavy. Time of occurrence was approximately 9-10 AM. very scary,.While holding both hands firmly on steering wheel to attempt to keep truck straight and slow down while trying to get over to side of road to evaluate. Called Ford Service, they were familiar with this issue. We inquired if safe to continue driving. Service Advisor indicated it was ok to drive as long as we don’t go to fast and avoid bumps and bridge bumps. Inquired if they were familiar with issues, they indicated they were familiar with this issue. Appointment made for next day to evaluate. Spoke to Beach Ford Myrtle Beach. Occurred total of 3 times on our trip.
I was driving approximately 50 mph, hit a bump and the steering started to shake back and forth until i stopped. the truck was unloaded has about 20000 miles on it and rarely hauls much weight.
Traveling between 70-80 mph and truck went into uncontrollable shaking known as the “death wobble”. Was only able to control the truck by slowing down. Ford dealership has stated they can’t do anything about it.
While driving around a curve the vehicle started to violently shake to the point you could not control the vehicle. Lucky i was not meeting any on coming traffic and was able to take up both lanes until I could get the vehicle stopped. The second time this occurred , I was driving down a road and when I went over some rubble strips in the road, the vehicle began to violently shake once again.
After riding over a pothole on Interstate 24 with left front tire, vehicle began to shake violently and continued to shake until able to slow the vehicle below 20mph. This incident repeated further down the highway. Vehicle control was extremely difficult during onset and braking seems to make vehicle harder to control.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
