My F150 shifts hard through the gears sometimes. It's real clunky, loud and shuddering. Sometimes it shifts suddenly causing rapid acceleration or down shifts just as hard causing sudden deceleration. In traffic this is a dangerous situation, such as merging lanes. Not only is it uncomfortable and probably bad for parts. It's dangerous and not Ford tough like they advertise.

The vehicle was purchased brand new from a Ford dealership in 2019 in Virgina. Later, a service bulletin was released by Ford for a "cold start rattle" and cam phaser failure through the ford pass app and by mail. This service bulletin extended the warranty on the cam phaser parts to cover up to 100% of the cost to fix the vehicle. At that time, due to being a military family we had moved to Florida and never received the service bulletin in the mail. After reviewing the service bulletin for the vehicle on the ford pass app, it was taken to a Ford dealership in Miami to be inspected. The Ford Miami dealership did not think there was a cam phaser issue with the vehicle at that time and refused to fix vehicle. Ultimately, the vehicle was taken back to a Ford dealership in Ohio to have it reinspected for the same issue (The cold start rattle/Cam Phaser). The Ford Dealership assessed the vehicle and stated, it in fact has the known issues with the Cam Phaser failure. The vehicle is under the mileage for the service bulletin. However, Ford is unwilling to fix the vehicle due to exceeding the date of the service bulletin. This issue puts my safety and others on the road at risk, because if the cam phaser is not fixed the motor of the vehicle will fail and could potentially cause serious injury or death. The vehicle is not safe to drive at this time. This problem has been confirmed by a Ford Dealership and the vehicle is currently sitting at the dealership awaiting to be fixed. Ther

Cam phasers in engine have failed for the second time. Potential safety issue is if not repaired, could lead to catastrophic, unexpected engine failure as the cam phaser is part of the engine timing system. Prolonged driving with this issue would inevitably cause major mechanical problems which could possibly lock the engine up while driving. This would obviously be a safety issue while traveling down crowded interstates at posted speeds in any metropolitan area. Vehicle is currently at the dealer again and the problem has been confirmed. Vehicle is out of warranty at this point and the repair is over $4,500. This price will ultimately lead to many people electing to take the chance instead of pay to fix this known issue with this truck. It is a very expensive repair for a vehicle to have twice under 100K miles. There are no warnings or codes associated with this problem. The beginning stages of this problem start with a loud rattle on a cold start. I have not let this issue persist due to safety concerns of my family being in the vehicle with me. I have elected to spend the enormous amount of money to repair this issue again and hopefully when I am able, I will purchase a different vehicle.

While driving 65mph on I-495 on a +90 degree day in August my 2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4, the horn of the F-150 beeped. It beeped again a couple more times then the F-150 powered down forcing me to coast through some lanes of traffic to reach the break down lane. ABS and maintenance due light were both illuminated. My code reader said a switch was shorted so I cleared codes to retest. I restarted the truck and after re-boott was able to drive the vehicle home. Not associated with this enroute power failure incident, I notice intermittent rough idle issues, a tail gate that opens by itself 24/7 with alarm and it is now normal for this F-150 to burn 3-4 quarts of extra oil between each oil change.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a significant manufacturing defect in the transmission of my 2019 Ford F-150. The vehicle, which I purchased new from an authorized Ford dealership, has exhibited persistent and severe transmission issues that have compromised its performance and safety. Specifically, the transmission has been shifting harshly and erratically, causing the vehicle to jerk, lunge, and hesitate between gears. This defect has not only affected the drivability of the truck but has also posed a serious safety risk to myself and other road users. Despite multiple visits to the dealership for repairs, the problem persists, indicating a fundamental flaw in the transmission system. I have learned that this issue is not isolated to my vehicle alone. There have been numerous reports and a class action lawsuit concerning the 10-speed automatic transmission in Ford F-150 models from 2017 to 20201. Additionally, Ford has issued recalls and technical service bulletins related to transmission defects in these vehicles23. Given the widespread nature of this defect and its potential danger, I urge the NHTSA to conduct a thorough investigation into the transmission issues affecting the 2019 Ford F-150. It is imperative that Ford Motor Company be held accountable for this defect and that appropriate measures be taken to ensure the safety and reliability of these vehicles. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt

At low speeds my transmission will down shift to the point my truck feels likes it’s nose diving then kicks into the higher gear hard before correcting its self into the correct gear. I am getting nowhere with any dealer besides if I don’t have the transmission recall then it’s on me to pay for the fix. I don’t truly feel that is fair at all to me with still making a monthly payment.

When my truck hit about 60,000 - 65,000 miles it started to jump into gear sometimes. It didn't feel right. It was at a low RPMs when starting to accelerate. I was planning on taking it to the dealership to have a look at it, but several months had gone by before I had an opportunity to do so. I then noticed a clanking upon a cold start. It sounded like a loose muffler. So I planned a trip to have both of these issues looked at. The Ford Dealer Service Manager told me that the cam phasers and transmission needed to be replaced. How can a vehicle with only 65,000 miles on it need almost $20,000 in repairs???!!! I went ahead and authorized the cam phaser job because I didn't realize how costly it actually was, I misunderstood the service manager. But I will not be fixing the transmission unless ford does a courtesy replacement, or a recall. I will otherwise wait until this transmission leaves me stranded on the side of the road to be raped and murdered. Everyone with this transmission is having issues. There is a class action lawsuit starting over it. I am now reading hundreds of on line complaints and watching a ridiculous amount of videos of these failures in Fords transmission and the cam phasers. Please help me. I cannot afford $20,000 in repairs and I bought a new vehicle so that I could be rest assured not to have any major repair needed so soon in its life span. I don't have the invoices yet, the Ford Dealer still has my truck in the shop.

I started noticing my transmission slipping when I first drive my vehicle after being parked for a few hours about 8 months ago. It stopped slipping after a couple of minutes. I didn’t take it to a ford service department because various websites said that is normal with the 10 speed transmissions. About a month ago, the slipping became worse. I also started losing power. I would start to accelerate through an intersection when I would lose power. I took it to a ford service department and they said I need a new transmission based on a TSB report. I contacted Ford customer service to determine if they will cover all or most of the repairs because my truck only has 65000 miles. They finally came back and said they will only cover a small portion of the cost.

Currently Suffering from a manufacturing defect per diagnosis from Ford technician in my 2019 F150 with the 10-speed transmission. Ford has issued a new technical service bulletin (TSB 24-2046) and re-engineered the CDF drum and housing to correct the issue. Below is a list of symptoms I’ve been experiencing along with others from 2017 – 2023: Wrench light is on Clunking or banging noise when starting the engine Rough, harsh or erratic shifting Hesitation between gears Gear slipping Gear getting stuck while shifting Jerking or lunging Loss of power while driving

Transmission started making a loud noise and jerking the truck. Tachometer was showing engine rpm increasing rapidly and dropping back several hundred revolutions; gear indicator didn't change (higher or lower) indicating a gear change. Transmission temperature was running approx. 205F however would increase to 230F when the transmission would make noise multiple times. Vehicle took extra effort to control while this was happening both on an Interstate highway and secondary roads. Coming out of the mountains I had to use the brakes more than usual due to the jerking around and stopped when they experienced brake fade and I could smell them. Pic attached. Stopped later and had engine codes read with a OBD reader at auto parts store; no codes or warning lights. This is the 10R80E 10 speed transmission. Called local transmission shop and Ford dealer. Local transmission shop rep said that they have replaced several and currently have 2 in the shop now with the similar issue, explained the recurring problems with this transmission, suggested I could Google it and recommended a reman with the now upgraded/updated parts to correct the original design flaws. CDF drum, valve body and something else. The reman cost versus rebuild are about the same, reman has a better warranty than the trans shop could offer. The Ford F-150 cam phaser issue primarily affects models from 2011 to 2020 with the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 engines. The cam phasers, which are components in the engine's variable valve timing system, are designed to adjust the timing of the camshafts to optimize engine performance and efficiency. The problem arises when the cam phasers start to fail or become noisy, often producing a rattling or ticking sound, particularly on cold starts. This noise is due to the phasers not locking properly or wearing out prematurely, leading to improper timing adjustments. Over time, this can result in reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, and in some cases, engine damage if not addressed. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and extended warranties for some vehicles to address this issue. In many cases, repairs involve replacing the cam phasers, timing chains, and associated components, which can be costly. The issue has led to customer dissatisfaction and several complaints, with some owners reporting multiple repairs before the problem is fully resolved. I was not sent the letter advising me of the customer satisfaction solution and now Ford wants me to pay $4,000 to resolve this issue.

Transmission has always shift loudly into 8th gear since I bought it at 31k miles. It has 95k miles on it now. Bought it in Nov 2021 used off a Ford dealer lot. Driving a few weeks ago. Going 30 mph. Stopped at a stop sign and then made a left mildly accelerated, probably around 30mph and I was still accelerating, engine goes to redline and engine shifts down to I'm guessing first. Every dash light pops on, and the truck doesn't even show it's in drive or any gear. I pulled to the next stop sign that was not to far away. I brake and shut the truck off and put it in park. I try to start it and it doesn't work. It did not turn over at all. I got it towed to home and checked it out. The transmission control module fuse was blown. I replaced it and it blew again and again. I checked for broken wires, I did not remove anything to check. I did not see anything. Had it towed to Ford. Ford told me the transmission control module had shorted out internally and they needed to order a new transmission control module. They just got it yesterday and told me they were having trouble programming it and hoping it'd be ready tomorrow.
