2016 Ford F-150 experiencing intermittent and dangerous transmission behavior consistent with the current Ford safety recall involving unexpected transmission downshifts on vehicles equipped with the 6R80 transmission. Vehicle previously required a full transmission replacement/rebuild in September 2025 after repeated violent downshifting and drivability problems. Diagnostic codes at that time included P0705, P0707, P1702, and P1921 involving transmission range sensor and intermittent transmission signal faults. Following the rebuild, intermittent drivability concerns continued. Over several months, vehicle would periodically not “sound right” during operation, although symptoms were difficult to duplicate consistently. Check engine light would intermittently illuminate after approximately one hour or more of continuous driving and later clear itself after vehicle cooled down overnight. Current symptoms have worsened and include unexpected downshifting, inability to manually shift using dash controls, skipped gears, delayed downshifts/upshifts, remaining in 3rd gear while slowing to a stop, and behavior consistent with being stuck in low gear while traveling above 50 mph with excessively high RPMs. Vehicle intermittently appears unable to properly determine gear position. On May 19, 2026 I experienced uncontrollable downshifting and engine revving that resulted in an inability to safely operate the vehicle. Transmission behavior creates unsafe driving conditions and concern f

My car is experiencing a harsh down shift from 3rd to 4th gear with lack of power on acceleration on my vehicle since 10/25/2024. I have taken it in to three service departments including Karl Flammer Ford in Tarpon Springs, FL. Each service department has said the only remedy is a New Transmission estimated to be $7,000-$8,000 (receipts of diagnostics can be provided). We have already spent $524.95 for diagnostic testing. Because we have been unable to afford to have the problem fixed we are currently driving around in an extremely dangerous vehicle. I have received the notice of Ford's "Important Safety Recall" Notice 26S28/ NHTSA Recall 26V237 and have researched that other F-150's from previous years have experienced similar issues with the transmission and have been recalled. I would like to be on record, incase something were to happen because of this transmission, that the NHTSA as well as Ford Motor is completely aware of how dangerous this situation is. Quoting from the recall notice: an unexpected downshift to a lower gear can occur causing an abrupt wheel speed reduction. This may result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The vehicle is completely grounded and unsafe to operate due to a severe transmission defect covered under active Safety Recall 26S28 (NHTSA Campaign 26V237). The molded lead frame and Transmission Range Sensor inside the 6-speed (6R80) power train system are failing due to degradation from thermal cycling and vibration. This creates an immediate highway safety hazard where the vehicle is at risk of an unexpected, sudden downshift into a lower gear without warning. On multiple occasions, the vehicle experienced a rough driving experience—specifically when pulling out of a parking lot or accelerating into traffic. This behavior was consistently followed by the wrench icon illuminating on the dashboard for a few minutes before disappearing. These symptoms first manifested in July 2025. There were also a few incidents of loss of power with no harsh vehicle malfunction just the wrench lighting up then going away. The vehicle's lead frame was subsequently replaced, but the exact same malfunctions returned in December 2025. The vehicle has been completely disabled and out of service since December 2025. I have been fortunate to only experience these malfunctions at low speeds, and no injuries have occurred due to the failures. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request.

My truck violently downshifted randomly and caused me to lose control for a little bit. I was lucky to narrowly avoid a crash. The truck is showing transmission range sensor codes after the truck downshifts harshly. My local Ford dealer did a diagnosis and confirmed that it has a faulty molded lead frame. However, they are refusing to cover the repair and are saying that I either pay them or stop driving the truck because the lead frame replacement is not explicitly listed as a remedy on the recall even though recall 26S28 lists the lead frame as a cause of the issue and even says that dealers will replace it at no cost if it has already gone bad, which mine has.

VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT STATEMENT Prepared for NHTSA Submission Regarding Recall 26V237 / 26S28 To: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Subject: Report of Accident and Vehicle Control Loss Due to Defect Specified in Recall 26V237 VEHICLE INFORMATION: Year/Make/Model: 2016 Ford F-150 VIN: [XXX] INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: In March, while driving during a snowstorm, the vehicle experienced a sudden and unexpected loss of traction and stability. Without warning, the rear wheels appeared to lock or drastically reduce speed, causing the truck to slide uncontrollably and strike a roadside barrier. Following the initial impact, while attempting to move the vehicle to a safe location as instructed by insurance/authorities, the engine suddenly stalled and shut down completely while in motion, nearly resulting in a second high-speed collision with the vehicle ahead. CORRELATION WITH RECALL 26V237: In May, I received a Safety Recall Notice (Ford Recall 26S28 / NHTSA Recall 26V237). The description of the defect—an "unexpected downshift to a lower gear causing abrupt wheel speed reduction and rear tire slide"—exactly matches the catastrophic event I experienced in March. The recall also notes that the engine may malfunction or stall, which occurred during my incident. IMPACT & DAMAGES: The insurance company evaluated the damage at approximately $6,000 for structural repairs. However, the vehicle remains unsafe and mechanically compromised. Despite the structural fixes, the

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
