As I was slowing down the truck started to flash the 123456 indicator for the gear. The truck then slipped out of gear and even though I was in drive the truck wouldn’t move. Like I was in neutral. Then with a big bang it started to move again. I stopped and shut the truck off. Started back up and continued to drive to get home. I stopped for a red light and accelerated away from the light and got stuck in the middle of the intersection. I had to shut the truck off in the middle of a state highway then start it again to be able to drive away. It turned out to be a transmission issue from something called the “ Lead Frame Connector.” The dealer says it happens to all of them. It was very sudden and very dangerous.

Intermittent noticeable harsh downshift in the lower gears. Not sure exactly what gears due to the intermittent nature of the symptoms. The symptoms are impossible to be replicated on demand. At this time no lights or fault codes have presented. The vehicle is used for personal light duty passenger transportation. It has been happening for about six months. The transmission oil filter and fluid were replaced 6 months ago. When the oil pan was down, it was inspected for excessive debris/sediment. In the opinion of a family technician was determined that no geartrain/clutch failure is present. The vehicle has 175k miles and it appears to be the original transmission. No other repair attempt has been made. Suspect the issue may be related to the component in the transmission called the lead frame.

1. System Failed: Power Train (Transmission). Component Failed: The 6R80 6-speed automatic transmission, specifically the internal lead frame and the direct drum. Inspection: No, the failed unit was replaced on December 19, 2025, but itemized diagnostic reports and repair invoices from both a Ford dealer and an independent shop are available for inspection. 2. The vehicle experienced sudden, unexpected downshifting and a temporary loss of power while in motion. These incidents occurred frequently and randomly, particularly while accelerating or traversing inclines, creating "unsafe driving scenarios" where the vehicle could have been rear-ended or lost traction due to abrupt gear changes. Furthermore, the vehicle eventually entered "limp mode," where it would "buck" during shifts and fail to accelerate under load, leaving the driver vulnerable in traffic. 3. Yes, by both. Independent Center: Super Tech Automotive confirmed on December 11, 2025, that the transmission line pressure dropped from 158 psi to 20 psi under load, causing the vehicle to go into "limp mode". Dealer: South West Ford Service Department verified the concerns on December 16, 2025, documenting a "torque converter shudder" and "direct drum failure" with "excessive metal debris in fluid". 4. Yes. The vehicle was inspected by a manufacturer-authorized dealer, South West Ford Service Department, on December 16, 2025 (Service Advisor Ryan Forbis; Transmission Specialist 'Dietrich'). 5. Yes. Truck began reviving at high idle after throwing a check engine light, then wrench light as I was driving. I was able to safely get off the road. Shut it down wouldn't restart. I let it sit for 4 hrs, it started then I began driving again as there was no indication of an issue before. At 50mph it happened again. Truck began reviving at recline, check engine and wrench light. Shut it down again, and this process of restarting again hours later as nothing was wrong is still going on, 3 yrs of it. Check engine codes that do come up when it begins again all point to speed sensor and leadframe. Someone said check cam sensors but have no check engine on them at all, only leadframe issues that abruptly occur out the blue. When it happens I can driving at any speed and first thing that happens is the throttle revs to redline and Truck begins shifting abnormal, check engine, wrench, shutdown(thankfully), then hours again now indication of an issue! When i get the truck shut off and off the road, which i had it towed 7 times, show p705,706,707 codes all pertaining to leadframe. Please for the sake ny family and many others recall the 2015-2017 F150s for this $2000 electrical sensor replacement that is putting lives in jeopardy.

2015 Ford F150 with 6R80 transmission. No warning lights, transmission down shited from 6th gear @55mph to 1st gear followed by complete transmission failure and loss of power. This took place on I26 in South Carolina near Spartanburg. Was then towed to a transmission repair shop in Greenville SC where the transmission had to be rebuilt (6 month lead time for new replacement from Ford). Invoice attached. Additional visits were required due to control module causing irregular shifting after repair. Please contact Advanced Transmission (contact info listed on invoice) for additional details.

The transmission range sensor has failed on my F150. This made my truck go into limp mode and unable to start. The Ford dealership replaced the lead frame and TRS as it was burnt out. The new TRS then began to automatically downshift while I was driving on the highway. It went from 6 gear to 4th back to 6th and then briefly to 1st making my truck lose power before going back to 6th gear while I was driving at 70 mph. There were no warning lights, a service light had come on just before the incident. The safety issue is a sharp and sudden downshift while driving at high speeds this can cause severe accidents. I understand that the Transmission Range Sensor for my Ford F-150 is under investigation by the NHSTA and in the engineering analysis stage before a recalled is determined. The dealership is looking at the problem as I’ve already spent over $2100 fixing it.

When driving the truck, the RPMs will randomly jump up and down without accelerating or shifting gears. At times it will also randomly shift when it doesn't need to shift. It downshifts more than it upshifts. This happens at a steady cruise down a highway and sometimes it is like it takes a minute or two to figure out which gear it actually needs to be in. It seems like the transmission may not be communicating well or something. I am worried that I will pull away from a red light one day and it will decide it doesn't want to shift at all and end up in what could be a terrible intersection situation.

While operating on my daily commute at approximately 40-50 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 3rd, with no throttle input change. Following a commanded full stop of the vehicle, upon accelerating, the vehicle seemed to be slipping into each gear. A short duration later, the vehicle prompted me with an orange wrench symbol on the instrument panel and the phrase "see manual." The vehicle would then only shift down as low as 3rd gear and appeared to be in a limp mode with no 1st or 2nd gear until shut off and restarted. I then took it to my local Ford dealer and had it diagnosed as a "P0722, pinpoint OSS sensor failure." It was repaired with a new lead frame on December 10th, 2025.

My pickup is a 2015 F-150 4WD Supercrew (5.0/6 speed auto). I was driving on an Interstate and pulling a loaded flatbed trailer. The transmission was in the “towing” mode. While leaving a rest area my truck would not shift up from first gear. I turned the truck off and re-started it and it seemed to work for a short time, but as soon as I got back to speed on the Interstate the pickup SUDDENLY shifted into a lower gear. There was no warning at all. This made the truck's engine momentarily overspeed and I felt like I was going to crash because it went from high speed to low in a very short distance. Fortunately, I was wearing a seatbelt, there was light traffic, and the roadway was slightly wet from rain. After this incident I was able to slowly "limp" it off the Interstate. It was taken to an independent transmission shop that said this was caused by a "lead frame" failure and that it was a known issue but Ford would only warranty it if it was a 2014 or older. They told me that the “speed sensor” is part of that component. They were able to repair it for me by replacing the "lead frame" - it did not appear to damage the engine or other parts of the transmission and the truck seems fine now. I do have a post warranty service contract, service contract agent said they do not specifically cover "shift plates" in their policy and it cost me over a thousand dollars out of my own pocket.

Typically in slower than highway speeds when traffic is moderate to high and traffic starts to clear. Accelerator is pressed to return to highway speeds and the vehicle downshifts suddenly. Nearly caused collision from the rear vehicles both times.

I own a 2015 Ford F-150 with approximately 175,000 miles. I have experienced intermittent hard shifting at low speeds for many years. During normal driving, the transmission occasionally shifts very harshly, producing a loud knocking noise and causing the truck to jerk unexpectedly. I do not recall the exact first occurrence, but the hard shifting has been happening since I have owned the truck. I never thought much of it until recently reading about a transmission investigation for similar F-150 models. In December 2025, I experienced a particularly severe hard shift. During this incident, the truck jerked extremely hard and the powertrain warning light momentarily illuminated. This felt unsafe and unexpected. I had the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic, but no diagnostic trouble codes were found at the time of inspection. Despite this, the hard shifting continues to occur intermittently. This issue is a safety concern due to the sudden and harsh movement of the vehicle without warning.

I can have the vehicle available for inspection. I have to hold the truck door shut while driving it when the issue happens. This year during cold weather the issue started. The inside door handle is really loose, like it's not attached to anything. Once the vehicle heats up, the door handle gets stiffer, like it is connected and I'm able to close the truck door. This only happens when it's extremely cold outside. I was told by a ford dealer that this is not a recall door actuator problem. They think it may be the door cable that connects to the inside door handle. They stated it may or may not be a warranty replacement and not a recall. They say it would be around $149 to diagnose the door problem, and if it's not a warranty replacement, I will have to pay the diagnosis cost and repair cost. They say the only way to know if the door repair is under warranty is for them to go inside the door and diagnose. So this is my concern. I have an extended warranty on the truck and it runs out at 147,000 miles. I'm

But, when my daughter got in the car, she touched the glass with her finger thinking it was ice, and cause a section to completely fall apart, with some glass getting on her (one of the pictures shows this hole). It was the coldest day we had in NJ in a number of years. The front of the truck was facing south and it was cold, but sunny (high temperature that day was 19F, low temp was close to 0F). NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
