The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted from 6th to 1st gear. During the failure, the vehicle abruptly decelerated, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the driver almost lost control of the steering wheel. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 170,000.
My vehicle is a 4X4 Off Road F-150 crew cab. The concern is the vehicle had developed an oil leak due to the plastic oil pan developing a Crack init. Ford has issued to their dealer network a service letter describing the issue and fix. But the cost to repair this falls upon the owner to retrofit a metal oil pan. Cost for repair is approximately $1400.00. Ford put a plastic oil pan on an off road vehicle that should have never been done.
The vehicle loses its sensor for gear placement. The wrench icon appears and the engine fan starts running fast. The vehicle will not shift and causes an extremely dangerous situation while on the road. The gear shift panel doesn’t show an engaged gear. When it’s safe to stop and shut of the vehicle, it won’t turn back on. Eventually the vehicle clears the error itself and is drivable again until the next incident.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle was almost involved in a crash due to the failure. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the roadway. The contact stated that his wife and minor children were passengers inside the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights prior to the failure. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
STARTED TRUCK AND DROVE ABOUT 1/4 MILE WHEN IT LOST ALL POWER AND NUMEROUS MESSAGES STARTED FLASHING ON THE SCREEN. TRUCK HAD NO POWER AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE BLVD TO LET OTHER TRAFFIC PASS. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED. STARTED OKSY BUT RETURNED HOME. LEARNED FROM MY MECHANIC 180 MILES AWAY THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY, A COMMON PROBLEM TO WHICH THERE IS NO RECALL BUT POSSIBLY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY. TRUCK HAS 49,253 MILES ON IT.
Driving down the hyw the 2015 f150 will shut down to limp mode can not excelarate lose of power have to stop and restart did this 4 times. As this happen I was just about rear-ended.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off, the contact observed condensation underneath the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil pan was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
I am the original owner and from the start of ownership in 2015 I noticed after 30 plus minutes of driving when making a sweeping left turn, like around an S turn in a road, the steering wheel would have resistance. At the point of resistance if I go back to the right it is smooth. Try to turn left and again it near hangs up. Just a notable amount of resistance. I had the extended warranty and have my truck regularly serviced by the local Ford shop. They could never duplicate my concerns over the years. I suspect they are not driving it long enough and/or not making a seeping turn. I do have concerns that the steering box will lock up and thus result in a serious accident. I had the intermediate shaft replaced, no difference. Ball joints inspected, all good. I always have fresh tires on and the brakes are in top condition with new rotors. Still hangs up. My research points to the gear box which is a very costly repair. My vehicle is now out of warranty. I have never taken my vehicle off road. There are enough online reviews regarding this issue that I believe Ford should recall and put new steering boxes in at no cost to the owner.
The O ring on the transmission cooler lines failed causing a loss of transmission fluid. This was hollered by a failure of the Lead Frame. There was a recall issued for the 2009 - 2014 model years for this problem. It affects the 6R80 transmission and the 2015 model year has the same transmission
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the abnormal rattling sound ceased after the engine warmed up. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,200.
Driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly shifted from 6th gear (top gear) down to first gear. The tires locked up and the car decelerated rapidly. I shifted the car into neutral and coasted to a stop at the side of the highway. While slowing down the wrench icon came on. After 5 minutes, the wrench icon went away. I talked to the ford dealership and they stated they could not diagnose the issue unless the wrench icon was on at the time of inspection. The wrench icon does not give a code. The vehicle has shifted on its own multiple times and has caused some close calls. Ford wont address the issue because the warning light is only on for a few minutes at a time and the issue is sporadic.
While driving and letting off accelerator the rear-end locked up causing the truck to slide, my truck is not on recall list for the tranmission issue but from what I can read from others this seems like it could be that problem.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, white smoke was coming from the base of the driver's seat belt clip. The contact stated that the air bags warning light illuminated with a message that the driver's side door was opened; however, the door was not open. The contact's son was able to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the road and the vehicle was towed back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the local dealer. The contact related the failure with an unknown recall; however, the manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 191,845.
6/25/24 I PUT MY 2015 F150 IN REVERSE AND GAVE IT JUST A LITTLE ACCELERATION AND IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED FAST CROSSING THE STREET AND HITTING A UTILITY POLE TOTALING MY TRUCK. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON A FORD FORUM AN SAW WHERE OTHE PEOPLE HAD HAD RAPID UNEXPLAINED ACCERATION.ONE PERSON SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF A FAULTY ACCELERATO PEDAL POSITON ALSO KNOWN AS APP. MY SAFETY AND ANYONE WALKING OR DRIVING BY MY HOUSE WERE GREATLY PUT AT RISK. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REPRODUCED OR CONFIRMED BY ANYONE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS OR MESSAGES. THIS NIGHTMARE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE.
I am driving back to Florida on [XXX] and my engine light comes on and the wrench symbol on my dash, as I am going about 70 mph and accelerate suddenly my truck going from gear/speed 6 down to 5. I take my foot off the accelerate and it goes back to speed /gear 6. If i stay at one speed and do not accelerate its ok, the minute I accelerate it changes speed. I took it into the Ford Dealer in Daytona Beach, and they are fixing the problem, but I don't have all the details. I am wondering if this is related to your recall to the 2014 F-150 where the problem is exactly like mine. I have not gotten the truck back, only that it is costing around $2400. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving approximately 65MPH when my transmission suddenly dropped into 1st gear and my rear tires locked up causing the rear end of my truck to swing out. This is the same issue that the 2014F150's have been recalled for. There were no warnings that this was going to happen. The event was sudden and unexpected. Fortunately I was able to gain positive control of the vehicle and get us to safety. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone and is currently sitting in a mechanic shop parking lot. Luckily this happened on pleasant summer day with optimal driving conditions. Had this happened in the winter months I am uncertain we would have been so lucky. My concern now is that I am going to have the repairs done and the truck will repeat the problem.
Transmission Downshift suddenly, jerks after stop start when vehicle starts again Yes Yes No The plastic oil pan leaks few oil change shops has the plastic plug and some will not perform oil change because of the plastic pan and plug.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle down shifted unexpectedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that several months later the same failure recurred while her husband was driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was unsure of the diagnostic results. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
The 2015 F150 shifted itself from drive at 60mph to 1st gear. I as leading traffic when this occurred. The rest of traffic went around me as, I went to shoulder of rd. The F150 shuttered and was unable to be steered safely off the road. Warning lights flashed but as a driver I was unable to watch as traffic behind me was more important then watching F150. As a Simi was also close to me. This was a very scary event! As my husband was with me and is [XXX] he doesn't drive. Smoke came from under the vehicle. I see this is a common accurate with the F series of 2014. I would suggest checking the 2015. We have since had it fixed and it now drives better. I noticed a marked difference, from when I purchased it a few mos. Earlier. Seriously it could have been a wreck. Strong driving instinct is what saved us this time. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure occurred almost two years later. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,432.
Transmission changing gears on its own while driy
In 2022, while behind the wheel of my 2015 F150, I would be driving down the highway (70+ mph) and the transmission would suddenly downshift to 1st gear, then jump to 3rd, and then back down to first gear, all over the place. This happened on several occasions. It was erratic, I experienced sudden changes in speed, sudden and frightening revving of the engine (especially on the highway) and on several occasions I had to make sudden changes to my driving to ensure my safety as well as the safety of others on the road. After I was able to pull over and turn my truck off, the truck would either not turn back on or take a while to be able to turn on. I had no warning that the transmission was about to shift gears and only noticed a check engine light after the incident had occurred. After taking my truck to a transmission shop and they did not find an issue with the transmission (it worked correctly while they test drove it), I took it to a Ford Dealership where I was told there was a fault with the CAM Shaft sensors. After a $3,000 repair to fix the issue, I recently found Ford has Recalled 2014 F-150s for issues that sound identical to what I was experiencing in my 2015 F-150.
While driving vehicle slows down/loses power. Dash reads "see manual". Started happening a few days ago. Took to mechanic today and they stated this is a known issue from Ford transmissions, I should inquire about a recall as the parts are backordered three weeks and the costs is a substantial amount. Recall only covers 2014 not 2015, from what I am reading the same issue happening to my 2015.
Twice now in the past 2 weeks I was accelerating from a stop when soon after my truck shifts from 4th to 5th, it’ll slam back down into 2nd gear. Both times my rpms spike, obviously, and my tires briefly screech. Then the truck just shift back up and seems completely normal. There was zero indication of any issues prior to either of these incidents. One of the times, I had my wife and two toddlers in the truck. It was lucky I didn’t lose control either of the times. From the forms that I’ve read, it sounds like I have a faulty transmission range sensor or may need a software update. I have not yet had a dealership officially diagnose my vehicle.
Automatic transmission would suddenly downshift from a high gear, slamming into first gear abruptly slowing the vehicle down without warning. It felt like I was in an accident. I was so startled , I didn't know if I had hit something or if I had been hit in the rear end. On another occasion the rear end locked up and caused the tires to chirp. The vehicle only had 38,374 miles on it. I found a Ford training bulletin (TSB 15-0142 & TSB 16-0015) on 2015-2016 F150's with transmission issues. On 07/28/21 I took the vehicle to Jarrett Ford and they performed a transmission update 16-0015 on the vehicle, R/O Number 623834/1, but the problem was not resolved. On 08/23/21 I took the vehicle back to Jarrett Ford and they had to completely rebuild the transmission R/O Number 624682/2.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH, the transmission abruptly downshifted from 7th gear to 4th or 3rd gear. The transmission also downshifted from 4th gear to 1st gear. The failure occurred several times while driving until the contact shifted the transmission in neutral. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 174,000.
The contact's husband owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle independently downshifted and the RPM surged to 6,000 RPM. The failure persisted while depressing the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate and shift out of first gear. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. After restarting the vehicle several times, the contact drove the vehicle to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective powertrain control module (PCM). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact recently discovered that the 2014 model year Ford F-150 was recalled under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train) and the contact linked the failure to the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Put truck in reverse and backed up. Then put gear shift into Drive and the gear got stuck in Neutral and won't budge. A Ford recall for 2014 was issued the same day but I believe based on this same issue, 2015 models need to be included in the 6/25/2024 recall also.
2015 f150 the transmission downshifted at highway speeds on numerous occasions one time I was towing a trailer with my family in the truck and it downshifted from sixth gear to first gear without any warning at all I had to pull over on the left side of the highway after the truck locked up the rear wheels I had the transmissions lead frame replaced at the cost of $1200 through a ford dealer
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle abruptly downshifted with the transmission warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle shuddered and hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The dealer was finally able to diagnose the vehicle with a defective wheel speed sensor on the lead frame. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving truck on road at approximately 45 mph, truck suddenly and without warning shifted into first gear. After the sudden downshift, the truck then recovered normal shifting for the remainder of the drive. This is the third time this has happened in one year. The first time it happened, I was towing an empty small lawn trailer on a secondary road, with truck in "tow" mode. while descending a hill in a sharp curve, the truck suddenly down shifted to first gear, remained there for a few seconds and then started shifting normally. After this happened, when trailer was unhooked, the display continued to show that a trailer was attached to truck for several days and then the display went back to normal. The second and third time this occurred, there was no trailer attached, and truck was in normal driving mode, and there was no warning, wrench, or check engine lights visible on the dash display before or after the downshift happened. Fortunately, up to this point, I have been able to avoid crashing the truck during these downshifts, but I feel this is a very dangerous and serious safety concern to myself and others. I have contacted the local Ford dealership twice regarding what to do about this problem. Today was told to "monitor" it, that they were booked for weeks ahead, and suggested I may want to go to another dealership. After the second time it happened, I inquired about paying out of pocket for any software update that may help with this problem and told that since
TRUCK WILL DOWN SHIFT AUTOMATICALLY TO 1ST GEAR AT TIMES EXSPECIALLY WHEN PULLING A TRAILER OF ANY KIND WHEN SLOWING DOWN, (EXAMPLE) GETTING OFF A HIGHWAY RAMP SLOWING DOWN TO THE INTERSECTION. I JUST READ THEY ARE RECALLING 2014 WITH THAT ISSUE, 2015 ALSO HAS THE SAME ISSUE, ATLEAST MINE DOES. HAS PROBABLY DONE IT 6 TIMES, ALL WITH A TRAILER ON THE TRUCK.
Vehicle geared down without warning, several occasions it would stay geared down on an interstate. I would have to pull over to get it to perform properly. Took it in to the local Ford dealership for repair and it cost me $7000 to replace transmission, immediately afterwards it continued gearing down which happened to be an issue with the power control module. I know the 2014 have been recalled with the same issues, and feel the 2015 should probably also be included in the recall.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle unintendedly downshifted to a lower gear. The contact observed a vibration coming from underneath the middle of the vehicle. On other occasions, while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle began jerking slightly to moderately. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while attempting to drive from a complete stop, the RPMs were significantly high, but the vehicle hesitated to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at high speeds, the vehicle experienced unexpected downshifts to first gear. The power train warning light and the check engine warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the transmission was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall; therefore, he would be charged a fee for the diagnostic test and repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
LED headlamps become too dim to drive at night. 1. Dealerships may recommend headlamp unit replacement (around $3000USD). 2. However, uniform dimness in both lamps indicates an upstream electrical issue. 3. Recent service inspection (Invoice #[XXX] at AutoNation Ford in Bellevue, WA) indicated that all existing diagnostic procedures to inspect voltage and battery health came up negative, but they have no process to diagnose the control unit or measure the candle output of the headlamp projectors. 4. Case #[XXX] has been opened up with Ford to ask engineering to develop a procedure to diagnose, repair, and potentially issue a recall with the part. Without any warning signals or indications the fan blower has stopped working. It became a real safety hazard when I needed to defog my windshield and there was no air flow coming out of my vents. No warning, no signal. My windshield had fogged over and I had zero ability to defog due to not having any available airflow. Major safety issue!!
6r80 transmission eractic shifts, will not change gears. Skips gears. Code po0715 , Concerned for safety. Shouldn't have these problems at 66000 miles
The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at a undisclosed speed the contact noticed a failure when he attempted to engage the brake gear no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed as a failure with the master cylinder which needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000. The VIN was not included.
The vehicle has been sent in for a loud passenger side noise while motor is started and driving. The smell of burnt oil was also an issue coming from the passenger side. Took it in and the mechanic noticed my valve cover (passenger side) is cracked. Cannot order new ones as they are on back order. The driver side has limited quantities with a wait time, and the passenger side valve covers have 0 in stock online and at the dealerships. The smell and smoke is getting progressively worse as there is no option to replace valve covers.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
