This vehicle should be part of the Ford campaign 14S06 or 15N01. The power rack and pinion has frozen and made the vehicle undrivable. The vehicle has a build date of 3/12 and the campaign lists the affected vehicles from 2011 through February 28th 2012. Ford has denied multiple attempts to get this repaired and they say the build date excludes this vehicle. We are talking about literally days apart to make it eligible. We replaced the power rack and pinion at our expense approximately 2 years ago and the same problem has reoccurred. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and we can not get it repaired outside of the Ford dealerships as the electronic power steering control module has to be re-set by Ford after a replacement. The warning message is on in red on the instrument cluster message center and the warning chime is sounding.

Was very difficult to steer - scary. Yes available for inspection, although we have an appt to check it and repair estimate on March 10, 2022 with Cutter Ford. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Scary. This is my wife's vehicle, It's a blessing that wife was not driving vehicle home from work in traffic on the H-1 freeway in Hawaii. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? There was a recall for 2013 Explorers in June 2014. Dealer Manager had denied any recall for my VIN. was not any help to , seem like he didn't care there was a recall on Ford 2013 Explorer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet, Dealer with Cutter Ford appt March 10, 2022 Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Lamp illuminated as soon as problem occurred saying " POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT"
My REARVIEW CAMERA is faulty. When it works, the pictures are reversed. For example if a vehicle or person is coming from the left, it will show it/them coming from the right. The camera often just stops working and the screen is blank. I have seen recalls on Ford vehicles with faulty rearview cameras stating my exact symptoms yet my vehicle is not included in this recall. I have called my local dealership and Ford Customer Service, Corp. and have also been told I must wait for a recall although this same problem is identified on Ford vehicles. Please give me guidance on what I can do for my local Ford Dealer to fix this problem which has been identified by the manufacturer as a safety problem which increases the risk of a crash, which can lead to property damage or injury to people behind the car, especially small children. Thank you for your prompt attention to this very dangerous situation. I have not had a crash yet but have had many abrupt stops. Please contact me for any further questions or information.

There is an open recall for 2011-2013 Explorers (#14V286000) for the exact cause of the submission of this complaint. My family and other's lives were at risk when my explorer lost power steering capabilities while driving. The power steering was completely disabled almost making it impossible to navigate. The vehicle had to be towed because it was such a hazard to drive with local traffic. Upon the loss of the power steering a "power steering assist" light illuminated on the dash. The local Ford dealership noted that this was a known problem and the 2013's were actually recalled for this exact issue. Once they looked up my VIN number they noted that mine was not included even though it is textbook for the other 2013 explorers which noted the same problem that caused this recall. Ford has not been of any help and instructed I submit this complaint here. The repair is not an affordable cost to swallow when there is an open recall for the exact problem on the SAME years, but for some reason mine was not included.

I was stopped in the middle median waiting to make a left turn. Once there was a gap with on coming traffic I started to make the left turn and I lost control of the vehicle, not sure what happened in the moment. Once I gripped the steering wheel to try and regain control before I jumped the curb and hit the apartment building that was in front of me I was able to park the vehicle and assess the situation. I looked down and noticed the warning light that said “Power steering fault.” I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealership and they have diagnosed the problem as needing to replace the whole “steering rack.” This is a $2300 repair. Under further investigation I have become aware that there is already a recall “14S06” for this exact problem, but due to my build date being out by a couple months my Explorer is not covered. I have read online many other experiencing the same concern I am having, and their Explorers are not covered as well. This is a huge safety concern and could cause accidents relating to injury/death. This needs to be addressed immediately!
I’ve had this recall for awhile now. I’m tired of constantly replacing tires due to this recall and improper wearing. When reaching out to dealership I’m told Covid stopped the production of the part and I need to just “deal with it and replace tires frequently /rotate them” I can’t afford 2 new tires every 6 months

While on the highway July 2021 a red warning light flashes, I didn’t get to see exactly what it said, it went away. Shortly after that I stopped at a Walmart service location off the highway, but by then the light wasn’t on and the mechanic said “they don’t do anything regarding engines”. Then about a week later it flashed again then I was ready and able to take a picture (attachment #1) it said “engine coolant over temperature”. I called several repair shops and dealerships and had gotten a few estimates (attachment #2). One place added a lot of coolant (Grease Monkey) and that seem to get me going and I didn’t see the light again until about 3 to 4 weeks later. Then my husband and I had to start checking my coolant level daily to see if more coolant had to be added which most times it did. The high cost for repair - is in getting to the water pump - which I’m being told by at least 4 people can take 11 to 12 hours of labor. One repair place said “I may be better off by getting rid of the SUV”. I previously had a 2003 Ford Explorer (original owner) kept it for 10 years then upgraded to a 2013 Ford Explorer (original owner) and thought I could do the same, however costly problems started in 2021. Ford is aware of all of the water pump related issues and should have a recall and/or make repairs free of charge. This has been apparently going on for 10+/- years. In October 2021 once while on a rural highway in Colorado about 30 minutes from home my car ran hot and stalled on me

I came out of Lowes and got into my vehicle and when I tried to back it out, I could not turn my wheels and the message on the instrument panel stated, "Power Steering Assist Fault". I shut of my engine and restarted the Explorer and after a few seconds I was able to steer my vehicle. I am afraid to drive the Explorer because I have two car seats in the car that carry two children. My Explorer was made in the Chicago plant in March of 2013, but my vin number appears not to be included in the ones to be covered.

Right rear brake caliper has failed twice. Tire shop diagnosed problem both times. We’ve replaced the caliper and brakes on the car the first time and are in the process of getting parts to fix again Started hearing loud popping noise from front end and now we have a grinding noise when turning steering wheel. When driving the vehicle the steering catches when turning right or left causing it to feel like it isn’t stable. The car feels like it wanders on straight stretches and you have to fight the steering. Husband diagnosed rack and pinion. Problem now is we can’t get parts
The Power steering failed on my 2013 Explorer XLT. I Brought my vehicle to my local Ford dealership service center: Corwin Ford Reno 3600 Kietzke Ln, Reno, NV. 775-329-8800. The service representative told me that the vehicles core steering had an internal failure and that it would take up to 2 months to get the parts and cost $3,173.39 to affect the steering repair. I asked and was told that Ford has over 1,300 of these specific steering units on back order. This tells me that they not only burned through their reserve supply of that part, but that they also have a demand for 1,300 more ! This is an obvious safety issue which has rendered my Explorer un-drivable. If the failure had occurred at high speed the consequences could have been grave! Apparently, I'm not the only one experiencing this specific issue. In my opinion, the steering was inadequately engineered, resulting in premature failure. My Explorer is my wife's daily driver. It has never been taken "off road" or subjected to any other duress. It is strictly a city/highway vehicle. After contacting Ford (Case No. CAS-34220695-K8P5P6 CRM:0222477) and voicing my concern, All that they offered was to expedite the parts request. I am 63 years old and have owned 16 automobiles, 9 have been Fords. Never have any of them required any service to the steering mechanism, much less a total failure of that system. Ford has an obvious problem with this part and I should not be required to pay over $3,000.00 to correct their engi

I drive a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD. While driving to the store last week I entered a roundabout when suddenly the wrench icon showed on my dash with a message display that read, "terrain management fault." The car would not accelerate even when I pressed the pedal all the way to the ground. My momentum took me out of the roundabout where I pulled over in a parking lot. As I put the car in park It begin to shake in idle. I turned the engine off and waited a few seconds then tuned it back on. The car drove just fine after that for about two days then this incident happened again twice in one day. I took the vehicle to the local ford dealership and they said they could not get the issue to present again so there was nothing that they could do. I took the car back home and it has happened a few more times. This is a total of about 7 times in the past 3 weeks and Ford cannot help remedy this issue. These incidents have put my family in dangerous situations. When researching online I found multiple accounts of this same issue. According to online forums it looks like it may be a problem with the throttle body.
All doors sporadically do not unlock. Sometimes it one sometimes it’s two sometimes it’s three. The back doors locked and will not unlock with the key fob, the indoor lock controls, or manually attempting to unlock the doors. The rear doors cannot be opened from the outside or inside when the locking mechanisms stop working. It poses a large risk when there are children in the car. And the front doors can be opened from the inside when the locking mechanisms stop working. It seems as though the locks start to act up when the weather is below 60°F. It is so sporadic that we can’t risk to take our family or children anywhere as we have to maneuver them out of car seats to get them out through front doors instead. I have taken our vehicle into our local Ford dealer for inspection upon which they stated that a specific component wasn’t working and it needed to be replaced, although that’s not the case considering how sporadic the locks are. They work when it’s warm and usually during the spring and summer, but all of a sudden when it’s below 60° they only want to work every so often. They should be a safety recall considering when people can’t get out of their car it poses a large risk. There are no warnings for this happening, and I don’t believe that the Ford dealership is even aware of what causes this as I’ve seen on many online forums that a lot of Ford owners have this problem. This has been going on since we purchased our car in June 2020

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
