I reported this incident once already and since then 2 more 2019 For Expedition had the exact same issue. The seatbelt tensioner charge blew up for no reason while vehicle was stopped and running. This is a very dangerous problem as I almost heart attack, I thought I was shot. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AND DON'T WASH IT UNDER THE RUG. TO THIS DAY I'M AFRAID OF DRIVING MY EXPEDITION FO FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN.

Car has 49700 miles. I was traveling on highway at speed and tried to accelerate to merge into exit lane traffic and engine and power train completely cut out and transmission failure light with wrench came on. Luckily cars behind me were able to slow down and avoid an accident but this could have been deadly. Thank God my children were not in the car. Car was previously taken to dealership in January of 2023 for transmission shifting issues and repair work was done. Car is also “hard shifting” into gear from park, causing whole car to jerk. Car routinely “hard shifts” when accelerating onto highway and “hard shifts” when slowing in rush hour traffic.

Vehicle parked and had just been started. Went to put on dvr seatbelt and a loud explosion happened to my left and the seatbelt shoulder strap was pulled out of my fingers. The driver seatbelt pretensioner activated without a collision and the cab filled with smoke. Vehicle has never been in a collision, ever had a restraint malfunction, is the original OEM safety component, and hasn’t been serviced/replaced for a seatbelt/airbag issue. Now, the air bag light is activated and the seatbelt is tightly fully retracted to the pillar so tight it can’t be moved at all. Access to the onboard computer can verify all the above info. Dealership stated there was an activation of the pretensioned charge on the driver seatbelt resulting in the belt fully retracting and the seatbelt no longer functioning. 2nd 2019 Ford Expedition they have seen this week with the same mishap. If this would have deployed at highway speeds, a driver may have been startled due to the loud explosion in the cab and lost control of the vehicle (I was parked). Smoke immediately entered the occupant compartment. The seat belt retracted so quickly/tightly, injury to one’s chest would have occurred.

Cam phasers gone bad even after doing a ‘reprogram’ that Ford listed as a recall. Ford then sent out a Customer Satisfaction Extension to replace the cam phasers (that we never received) but we missed the expiration date so now they are refusing to cover any of the service or parts. This is a known issue for the 3.5 engine, yet consumers are paying thousands out of pocket for a known issue.

My husband and daughter were in the car with me and didn’t see anything. I could smell a slight burning smell. After recovering from the pain I opened the door to try to see what happened. We notice the driver side seatbelt would not retract and was loose. We have called the local dealership to bring in.

The vehicle was parked when we heard a loud popping noise. I then saw white powder and smelled a horrible smell. Upon inspection the passenger seat side panel had popped open. It seemed like an airbag had deployed. I had a restraint indicator light on at that point. It was taken to a Ford dealership where they told me it couldn’t have been an airbag it was just a faulty seatbelt sensor. Which by the way there was a recall for that exact thing on the 2020 but, not the 2019 so 750$ later.. they’re going to fix it.

Hard shifts by the transmission, an extreme lack of shifts by the transmission resulting in stalling out on highway as if it was in neutral, jumping multiple gears at one time, trying to shift once it reached the final gear, Ford took 6 months to rebuild my transmission and when I got it back the sunroof was broken and leaking in my passenger floorboard, a month later I’m still have loud whining noises from start and leaking coolant, it is now back in the shop, while being covered under a certified pre owned warranty, we bought it from a dealership a little over 2 years ago and it has been in the shop for these repairs and others a total of 10 months.

When crossing an intersection my vehicles RPMs went up but there was no acceleration, after a few seconds the car found the gear and went across. There hasn't been any lights on for any issues. On at least six occasions in the last few months, the transmission has disengaged while attempting to accelerate. This has happened most frequently when attempting to merge into traffic on the freeway. The transmission disengages, the engine revs, and no power is transmitted to the tires. The car coasts in neutral until the transmission re-engages. The loss of power and duration for which the transmission is not working poses a major safety problem--right when you need to accelerate to merge safely into traffic, all power is lost. In some cases, the transmission will re-engage while the engine RPMs are still elevated and the gear will make a loud noise and the vehicle will jerk. I've taken the vehicle to a Ford dealer for service under warranty and the dealer provided no information other than a general "something's certainly wrong and we need to open it up and start rebuilding things" response. They say they're over 3 months out before they have time to start repairs. I have been unable to actually schedule these repairs with the dealer after multiple contacts. I'm worried that Ford has no resolution to this issue and hopes to make it through to the end of the warranty period without providing any resolution. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission; yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Un

Transmission has been clunky since new purchase in 2019. Has been to dealer several times for diagnosis. No resolution. Usually cannot reproduce when dealer has car. Recently dealer did some work on the transmission and then it failed on a long highway trip. Transmission overheated. Went into limp mode. Now stuck at a dealer 300 miles away. Dealer can’t reproduce the problem when they drive it around the block and somehow there are no obd codes so they won’t do any work on it, but also ford won’t pay to have it transported to our home dealer.

On July 24th 2023, at approximately 2:15pm my wife and I were completely stopped at a red traffic light on 66th St N that crosses Ulmerton Rd in Pinellas County Florida. We were talking and listening to the radio, when all of a sudden, a loud shotgun or explosive sound filled the vehicle. I got hit with something in the chest that felt like a punch or a kick, knocking me out of breath. But my wife only heard the extremely loud noise. I was clutching my chest in pain as I thought I was shot. When the light turned green, I immediately pulled into a Dunkin donuts parking lot, and we exited the vehicle. There was no damage whatsoever on the inside and outside of the vehicle, but we smelled gun powder. My driver's seatbelt was stuck in the retracted position. I slowly drove to my home at 6500 30th Avenue N, St Petersburg, Fl 33710. I immediately called the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department to report the incident, because at the time I thought it was a gunshot. They have a record under my phone number. I had no idea what the loud gun sound was, so I started to research and found the driver's seat belt tensioner charge must have gone off. I called Auto Nation Ford and made an emergency appointment to bring the vehicle in. I explained everything to them, then dropped the vehicle off. Upon doing a full inspection, the Auto Nation Ford mechanic determined there was a factory short in the air bag circuit, which caused the seatbelt tensioner charge to explode. I own a 2019 Ford Expedition Max (10R80 trans) & have experienced intermit. issues with the vehicle failing to shift into a higher gear when accelerating rapidly & getting stuck in a high RPM unless the accelerator is released. When releasing the accelerator there is a violent clunk & jerking. I have expressed this issue to Ford’s Service Department at the dealership. When intaking my vehicle the service advisor made a comment to another advisor that we have another Expedition with shifting issues. The advisor stated that this seemed to be a common issue with these vehicles, so I researched the issue online myself & found several threads with the same reported issue to include class action lawsuit websites for this issue. I paid Ford’s Service Department to diagnose the vehicle and they found no issues with the transmission and said it was okay and they weren’t able to replicate the issue (this is because it is an intermit. issue). The advisor stated that the transmission has an adaptive learn system and stated that the adaptive learn could be having issues, so I asked them to keep the vehicle and flash the adaptive learn or do a reset. I had them flash the system and it seemed to resolve the issue for a while, but it later returned. I then attempted contacting Ford Customer Service (Corporate) directly and explained the issue to them however they directed right back to the dealership. I own a 2019 Expedition XLT. I was traveling on the highway; I was in the right lane and was stuck behind a slow moving vehicle. I put on my blinker and waited for an opening in traffic, to move into the middle lane. Once there was an opening, I pressed the gas to accelerate into the lane. While the truck should have properly shifted and accelerated; instead the powertrain completely disengaged and I lost all power. The RPM's jumped all the way up. The truck was revving so high, but it was actually slowing down. I took my foot of the gas pedal and as the RPM came back down, the transmission slammed back into place with a horrible loud clunking sound that jolted the entire vehicle. After that, I was finally able to accelerate. This same situation has happened to me on several separate occasions. This vehicle with 72,000 miles on it was experiencing a rattle upon start on cold mornings for about two months, it didn't happen every time and only on initial start. Mechanic couldn't get the incident to happen in his presence to diagnose and no codes reported from computer diagnostic equipment. In February 2023, the vehicle lost power while highway driving and seemed to having problems shifting. The check engine and powertrain malfunction indicator both came on. Drove the vehicle immediately to mechanic. Booster sensor replacement was indicated by computer diagnostic and was replaced. On 4/16/2023 the check engine light came on briefly while driving and then went out and did not come back on. On 4/18/2023 while driving on the highway the vehicle started making a loud clanking with black smoke from exhaust pipe. We had the vehicle towed to mechanic. Over 30 diagnostic codes reported and mechanic recommended we take the vehicle to a Ford dealership. We had the vehicle towed to the local Ford dealership and have been informed that this 4 year old, 72,000 mile vehicle needs a complete engine replacement for $18,222. They do not know what caused the problem without pulling the whole engine and opening it up, but recommend a full replacement. We have contacted Ford and opened a case with them, but since the vehicle had a 60,000 mile power train warranty there is nothing that Ford is willing to do.

Momentary Neutral-Out Condition In Drive The vehicle has exhibited issues that correspond to other Ford vehicles that share the 10-speed transmission. This includes slipping, jerking, and loss of power to put it simply. A main issue that I wanted to point out is that it has a Momentary Neutral-Out Condition In Drive which means that the vehicle shifts into neutral when driving, thus resulting in a loss of power, suddenly. Consequently, this posses a major safety risk in all roads. There has been no accident that resulted from this. However, this requires a replacement of transmission which is a recall for the F150 but not the Expedition despite it having the same transmission and issues. When the vehicle has the auto start-stop activated it will randomly kill the engine entirely when you go to drive forward from an auto start-stop stop. You then need to put the vehicle in park and restart the engine. I've taken this into the dealership twice now for this issue, as the first time they tried to fix it with a new battery, which did not fix the issue. It's currently at Ford Service being inspected again. This is unsafe as drivers behind you would be expecting you to move forward when traffic signals allow, and after they see your rear brake lights go off when you try to accelerate.
