Started car and heard rattling noise. Took the car to shop and was told it was the flex plate. Called Ford to see if I could get it repaired under CSP 22n12 I was told I COULD NOT because I previously took my car to the Ford dealer because it was driving rough and making a sound so I took it in to see if it was the flex plate (another Ford dealer diagnosed it with the coolant intrusion issue) and because they said they inspected it and despite making no repairs the dealership closed the CSP 22N12 on my car. I called Ford Customer Service and was told I could file a complaint but there is nothing that they can do. First I had to deal with coolant intrusion and now the flex plate! I think it’s horrible that the consumer has to keep being financially responsible for the flaws of this suv. Another defective part that I’m left paying for and now my car has to just be parked until I can afford it.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was made aware of an unknown Technical Service Bulletin; however, the vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,686.
2017 Ford Edge Titanium with 61,000 miles had faulty engine installed during manufacturing and is experiencing the common issue as other Ford Customers. The vehicle is experiencing coolant intrusion into the engine, specifically cylinder #2. Ford has denied the replacement of the engine (even though the vehicle only has 61,000 miles) and expected to replace the long block engine for $9,809.59.
I bought the car used from a Ford Dealer in October 2024. The car had a clean CARFAX and solid maintenance history and just under 40,000 miles at time of purchase. In December 2024, there were several instances of rough idle at time of cold start that quickly cleared. In January 2025, it stopped blowing heat. My local garage found it was low on coolant but could not identify a leak. A few more days of driving showed continued loss of coolant. I brought it back to dealer I bought it from and their service department confirmed there was coolant in the engine cylinders and a full engine replacement was needed - a condition consistent with Ford's Technical Service Briefing issued in 2019. Ford customer service is unwilling to support the cost of that repair due to the age of the vehicle. Ford has admitted that there was a manufacturing defect in some of their engine line across models. They issued a recall for certain models with this issue, but not for my vehicle. It is insane to me that a car manufacturer, who acknowledges a mistake in production of their engines won't stand behind a vehicle with less than 45,000 miles on the engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that upon checking the coolant reservoir, the contact became aware that the coolant level was low. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact used a diagnostic scanner and retrieved fault codes for a misfire in cylinders #1 and #2. The contact researched the failure and concluded that the failure might be because of coolant intrusion into the engine. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed because the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
I AM IN NEED OF A SECOND ENGINE REPLACEMENT SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW. SAME SYPTOMS AND SAME PROBLEM AS CONFIRMED BY FORD DEALERSHIP. COOLANT INTRUSION ON CYLINDER 3. CODES P0303 AND P0316. THIS IS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW FOR THE 2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINE. A NEW ENGINE BLOCK WAS REDESIGNED IN 2019 TO ADDRESS THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. I FILED A CASE WITH FORD, BUT THEY SAY THERE IS NO ASSISTANCE FROM THIS KNOWM PROBLEM. FIRST ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH 20,000 MILES AND NOW AT 103,000 IT NEEDS REPLACED AGAIN $7,200. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AS ASKED BY FORD AND I HAVE ALSO RECEIPTS TO VALIDATE.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
**Incident Summary:** I am reporting an issue with my 2017 Ford Edge with an EcoBoost engine. The vehicle has 39,844 miles on it. The component that failed is the head gasket, which has warped due to coolant intrusion. This issue led to the necessity of a full engine replacement. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. **Safety Concerns:** The malfunction compromised my safety and the safety of others as it led to the car overheating and the check engine light coming on. These symptoms started during the summer. Overheating poses a significant risk, potentially causing engine failure while driving, which could lead to dangerous situations on the road. Moreover, the presence of coolant in the oil and exhaust fumes indicated severe engine damage, which could have resulted in a fire hazard if not addressed promptly. **Problem Reproduction and Confirmation:** The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Ford dealership. They performed a detailed inspection and diagnosed that the engine needs to be replaced due to the warped head gasket and coolant intrusion. **Inspections:** The vehicle and the failed component have been inspected by the Ford dealership. No inspections have been conducted by police, insurance representatives, or other authorities. **Warning Signs:** There were warning signs prior to the complete failure. The check engine light started coming on intermittently over the summer, and the car began to overheat. These symptoms indicated
The check engine light comes on due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. The repair is to replace the engine! This issue has been affecting many Fords, resulting in the issuance of a Technical Service Bulletin.
The vehicle check-engine light is on and it idles rough at startup. Ford dealer inspected and reported coolant had leaked into the engine. This put my family and others at risk as a potential fire hazard due to overheating.

My 10yr old son and I were coming to stop light only to press the breaks and not be able to stop completely until using the parking break. Unfortunately this is the 3rd time since 2021we have experienced the shocking reality of suddenly no being able to stop. (no fluid where parked, no warning lights no sounds) I had my car towed to the dealership and (even though the front break line was replaced twice in the past) the Ford service center was quickly able to identify the cause of the leak and is charging me $1750 to fix the same problem with the back brake hose since recall only covered the front.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while the vehicle was idling in the driveway, the temperature gauge was showing that the indicator had raised to HOT, and the message "Engine Coolant over Temperature" was displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact shifted the gear selector into drive(D) and accelerated and the temperature gauge lowered back to the normal engine temperature. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while stopped for a traffic light or traffic sign. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and DTC: P0217 and P1285 were retrieved, showing that there was a coolant leak at the water pump weep hole. The dealer determined that the water pump, timing chain, and other hardware needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,122.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of condensation inside the rear taillight assembly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
My right rear brake hose ruptured while pulling into my garage. Peddle went soft and I had to throw it in park in order to not hit the wall.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of coolant. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that there was a misfire in the engine and there was coolant leaking into cylinder #2. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
Coolant Intrusion issue - this is a known issue subject to a class action lawsuit. My vehicle was textbook - check engine light with accompanying code for a misfire on Cylinder 3. Then it would run rough upon starting. Next, the heater was acting up (on and off). Then billowing white smoke that smells sweet. Coolant reservoir was low, but not empty. Vehicle has 75,000 miles on it and is not drivable without a $7000-$9000 long block replacement due to the risk of fire. Called Ford customer service and was told the TSB did not even apply to my vehicle (as though a known design defect is related to a particular manufacturing facility).
I was driving down the highway at highway speeds (60-70mph), and bunch of lights came up on my dashboard. Primarily, the vehicle was indicating a high temperature issue. Due to this high temperature, the vehicle went into “low power mode”, to conserve heat, which caused my gas pedal to respond slowly, and leaving me feeling very unsafe. I have since gotten the car inspected and repaired. The independent service center (Christian Brothers - Fossil Creek), identified that the issue was a coolant intrusion into 2 cylinders that effectively ruined the engine. I had to have a whole engine replacement. Ford is not offering any support, even though the NHTSA has reported it as a known problem with this engine type (bulletin 19-2346)
The steering adaptive controls have malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become misaligned.
2L EcoBoost Engine was diagnosed as having porosity issues (tiny holes throughout engine which causes the coolant to leak into engine). The dealership informed me that it is a manufacturer defect and the only fix is to drop a new engine into the vehicle. My manufacturer warranty has obviously expired, but there are known recalls issued on a large number of their newer vehicles for the exact same issue I'm experiencing, as well as a civil suit filed against them in the state of California for the exact year and model of my car for the same issue. I contacted Ford Consumer Affairs and was told they are unwilling to do anything to fix their error as the warranty has expired. While I understand there is no current warranty, if a recall is issued they are responsible for fixing/replacing the faulty part(s) regardless of an existing warranty. Given that this is solely an issue caused by Ford Motor Company, they should be liable to resolve this issue. This problem causes other issues with the heating/cooling system as the coolant levels go to basically zero when the car is being operated as all the coolant is running throughout the engine block and has been known to cause fires and is a major safety hazard for anyone forced to drive a vehicle in this condition.
Coolant intrusion into the engine block due to a manufacturing defect in the cylinder walls. Needs engine replacement. I have had this car since 12/8/2020. No extended warranty. I have 60,000 miles on this 2017 Ford Edge and it needs an $8,000.00 engine. I still owe $11,000.00 on this vehicle. If the engine isn't repaired, it could overheat shutting down the motor and could cause extreme danger to the driver and even resulting in a fatality. We as consumers need your help in creating a recall on these vehicles. There are thousands of us that have lost so much money to repairs that should not be happening due to faulty engine blocks.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious issue I have encountered with my Ford vehicle, which I believe may indicate a broader safety concern that warrants investigation. Below is a detailed account of the problem: On November 27, 2024, my vehicle’s check engine light came on. I took it to O’Reilly Auto Parts, where the diagnostic code recommended replacing the spark plugs and coils due to a misfire in cylinder #2. Following their recommendation, I took the vehicle to Deer Valley Car Care, where the spark plugs were replaced. The check engine light turned off afterward. However, just one week later, the check engine light came on again, and the vehicle began to overheat. I had the vehicle towed back to Deer Valley Car Care, where they diagnosed coolant in cylinder #2. They advised me to take the vehicle to Bell Ford, as they informed me that this was a known issue with Ford engines, and Ford recommends replacing the entire engine in such cases. Upon further inspection by Bell Ford, they confirmed the diagnosis and also recommended replacing the long block engine. This issue, as explained by the dealership, is a known defect with the engine, and Ford is recalling newer models for this problem, but not my specific model. My vehicle has only 75,000 miles on it, and I take excellent care of it. To find that a defect in the engine has caused coolant intrusion into the cylinder is troubling. The fact that Ford does not offer a repair solution and instead recommends a full

Took my car to my mechanic said that coolant was draining into my 2.0 ecoboost engine in cylinder 4 causing misfire, white smoke to come out of my pipes, sweet antifreeze smell in the cabin. Have to constantly dump coolant into the car so that it doesn't over heat.when i start the car in the morning it acts as if the car is going to die if I don't hit the gas. Contacted ford, they said it was my problem. I bought the car a year ago. It started at about 72000 miles.
My wife was driving the car and had no heat. Once she got home we realized that the car was out of coolant. This has been found to be the known issue with this car. Coolant intrusion into the cylinder. This has the potential to overheat causing someone to pull over and get hit on the highway. Especially with the snow and low visibility conditions I’m glad my wife was able to make it home without being injured. This car is only a 2017 with around 122,000 miles. I’m writing this to hopefully save someone else in the future.
I took my Ford Edge in as the engine was making a loud rattling noise, i was told i had a cracked Flex plate and Ford will only cover half. I was NEVER notified of this recall and now i am in charge of paying 50% of a SAFETY issue because of Ford's mistake. I am now not able to drive my car advised by the mechanic because of this safety issue. This is a program by Ford and should be a recall. I should not be stuck paying 50% for something Ford messed up and am now not able to drive my vehicle as it was deemed unsafe. I also should not be paying 50% of something because Ford never legally notified me.
I am reporting a cracked cylinder block in my 2017 Ford edge with only 64000 miles and now not warranted for repair. I was informed by Ford Motor dealership it would cost me 10,000 dollars for entire engine replacement. I had two more payments before a total payoff on this vehicle.
Engine overheating warning light, Rough idling, Check engine light, all from …coolant leak from the engine block on my 2017 Ford Edge "coolant intrusion" in the 2.0L EcoBoost engines. I am looking forward to joining Ford EcoBoost class action lawsuit. Fir ford edge 2017

I bought my 2017 ford edge titanium last year back in dec of 2023. Well she had about 124k miles on it when i got it. Well theres almost 170 k miles on it now and i been very thorough with my maintenance. Transmission fluid, spark plus etc. Well im workin in tulsa one night and drop someone off and begin to hear this rattle noise. Well im an 1hr 30 mins away from hime so im prayin that i get back hime safely. Well i make it back. I take it to my mechanic and he said it sounds like your flex plate is bad or cracked. Well my understanding is other 2017 ford edges with my 2.0 engine and 6f35 transmission has a torque converter stud bolts weld problem recall. Apparently thats what could be causing my flex plate to crack all of a sudden. Just the only thing listed under my vin is a csp. To me if the torque conver weld stud bolts werent welded or tightened right at the factory i feel like that should be on fords end to cover the repair vs regular wear and tear. Like my way of explaining is say you borrow something from someone and you break it. They shouldnt be liable if its your mistake? True? I dont want no lawsuit. I just want ford to fix the issue with my car that their defect caused. Many blessings and Merry Christmas and thanks a million.
There is a crack in the block that is causing coolant to leak into the cylinder. This is a very common issue with these motors and should have been recalled a long time ago

I own a 2017 Ford Edge. I noticed white smoke and check engine light came on. I took the vehicle to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with coolant intrusion and engine failure. I was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. Failure was approximately 80,000 There are thousands of ford cars reported with this engine issue: Other affected models include the 2015-2018 Edge, 2017-2019 Escape, and 2017-2019 Lincoln MKC and MKZ I am worried on engine overheating, misfires and car stops suddenly in traffic and case a crash, and even fires I see Ford Fusion engines have been recalled I don't understand why the other models are not recalled also.
It appears that just 85000 miles this engine is starting to consume engine coolant. I am afraid this is going to lead to major engine repair costs.
Brought car with 54k miles. Went to dealer 1 month before warranty ended. I was told there were specific problems which I fixed. I later went back a few months later and was told it’s the battery. The Check engine light came back on a month later. I was told Coolant is leaking into the engine requiring you to need new engine. It’s dangerous because car won’t go over 20 mph. Even if you push gas you can’t go faster. Smoke coming out of exhaust. Smell is toxic. There is no explanation as to why this happens.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
