The coolant is getting consumed by the engine. I need to add coolant every so often and there is no visible leaks in the hoses. It cause the check engine light to come on, a rough idle at start, and a cylinder to misfire.

The vehicle had approximately 113,000 miles on the odometer when the initial engine problems began. It began intermittently shaking violently for several seconds immediately after startup. This occurred periodically for approximately one week. During this time, the check engine warning lamp illuminated, and diagnostic trouble codes P0300, P0302, and P0304 were recorded, indicating multiple-cylinder misfires. At that time, the issue was believed to be related to the spark plugs and/or ignition coil packs, and repairs were planned for the following weekend. Approximately four days later, before those planned repairs were completed, the vehicle began making a noticeable water-running or sloshing sound from behind the dashboard. The sound would continue for approximately 5–10 minutes after startup, even when the vehicle had not yet been driven and the radio, heat, and air conditioning were turned off. While driving, the sloshing sound would return whenever the vehicle stopped and accelerated again, including at stoplights. The coolant level was then checked and found to be below the minimum level, and additional coolant was added. Despite adding coolant, the level again dropped below the minimum after only a short drive to pick up my children from a sports activity. No visible coolant leak was observed underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently taken to a mechanic for inspection. The cylinder head was removed and taken to a local parts store for additional inspection. A

The engine was running rough and the check engine light on. It first happened on XXX. One engine coil was replaced but the engine light came back on and was running rough and misfiring at the end of XXX. At another independent auto repair shop Diagnostic trouble codes detected that coolant intrusion was made into Cylinder #2 due to a known engine block issue, causing the seal between the top and bottom halves of the engine to fail. This leads to catastrophic engine failure. We were told we'd need to replace our engine at the cost of $10,000. Our car milage is only 32,447 and the engine should be replaced by Ford at no cost to us. Ford caused the failure. Our car is parked in our garage and we're ready to drive it to a Ford dealership for an engine replacement. My 2017 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0L EcoBoost (~76,500 miles) has experienced the coolant-intrusion engine failure being evaluated under NHTSA Defect Petition DP26008. Symptoms began with an intermittent check-engine light and cylinder 2 misfire. On 8/24/2026, Irvine Auto Care documented codes P0302 and P0316 and performed a block test, concluding the head gasket had failed and was causing the misfire. I obtained a second independent diagnosis from Daytona Automotive Garage on 8/26/2026. Daytona confirmed the cylinder 2 misfire, inserted a borescope into cylinder 2, and documented “coolant trickling down to cylinder wall.” Daytona recommended complete engine replacement and referenced Ford TSB 22-2229. The coolant level is dropping with no observed external leak, and I have observed light white exhaust. The vehicle still runs, but coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 has been directly confirmed. I do not trust it for highway driving or transporting my young child because of the risk of unexpected loss of engine power. The vehicle remains in my possession and is available for inspection. Ford declined goodwill assistance. A Ford dealer told me any coverage associated with TSB 22-2229 expired after 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. My engine failed at only ~76,500 miles. Daytona’s engine-replacement estimate exceeded $7,000 before it was complete, and a Ford dealer verbally estimated about $9,000 for a remanufactured-engine replacement. I am left with an otherwise well-ma

The 2.0l Ecoboost engine is indicating an error code of P0302 after an engine service light. This code is for a Cylinder 2 misfire. The vehicle reserve coolant tank is showing low and in need of coolant after a recent oil/fluid service. This likely is the beginning of the known issue of coolant intrusion into this 2017 2.0L Ecoboost engine. This results in the need to replace the longblock of this vehicle. The design is a known defect and the vehicle has less than 55000 miles. The vehicle is scheduled for repairs on September 8, 2026. Due to engine failure this vehicle could cause a road hazard, accident, or roadside response.

The vehicle requires frequent, ongoing coolant replenishment. An independent mechanic physically inspected the engine, pulled the spark plugs, and captured photographic evidence of engine coolant pooling inside cylinder #2. I paid $134.50 for this diagnostic assessment. The mechanic explicitly warned me that this issue will cause progressive engine degradation until complete, sudden engine failure occurs. Problem: Rear brake flexible hose leak. The right rear flexible brake hose failed as I was driving home. The brake pedal went to the floor. Fortunately, that only occurred one block from my home. I parked my car in my driveway and looked for the source of the problem. My initial thought was that my brake master cylinder may have failed, so I added DOT4 brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir. The fluid immediately drained to the right rear tire and on to the ground. I did an internet search and discovered the recall. On XXX I called my local dealer (Bob Bell Ford, [XXX]) and the lady confirmed that the flexible brake hose for the recall was NOT available. I asked her to document my phone call and concern. Ford's own web site stated that my vehicle has a Ford recall campaign dated 2025-08-25, Campaign 25S87/25V544. Rear flexible brake hose leak. This is a SAFETY issue. Component Failure: Engine - I am reporting a dangerous engine defect in my 2017 Ford Edge which involves the 2.0L EcoBoost I4 F DOHC 14v engine. My vehicle has experienced total engine failure due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. This is a known design flaw documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Edge model. This defect poses a significant safety risk as it can lead to sudden engine stalling, loss of power while driving, and potential engine fires due to overheating. My vehicle started having issues with coolant levels in December 2025, which led to believe that it was the water pump. This was the first indicator that coolant was leaking somewhere. The repair shop replaced the water pump along with the thermostat and heater hose. Later that week the vehicle started stalling and left my daughter stranded. It was able to be jumped and driven to a shop where the battery was replaced thinking that maybe that was the issue. Within 24 hours the engine started backfiring which left my daughter stranded again. The vehicle was towed to the shop and water pump was replaced again under the warranty but the vehicle just kept backfiring and wouldn't start. It was towed to a Ford dealership where they said that it may need a new engine. Ford knew of the coolant engine intrusion issue and pretended that they didn't know what caused the engine failure and the only solution is an $8k new engine. I am submitting this complaint regarding a 2017 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. My vehicle has experienced the well-documented coolant intrusion defect that allows engine coolant to leak into one or more cylinders. This defect has resulted in engine misfires, coolant loss without any visible external leak, and ultimately complete engine failure, leaving the vehicle inoperable. A Ford dealership previously diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that coolant was leaking into one of the engine’s cylinders. The recommended repair was replacement of the entire engine, at an estimated cost of several thousand dollars. This diagnosis was made after the vehicle began exhibiting symptoms consistent with internal coolant intrusion, including rough running and loss of coolant. The vehicle has since deteriorated to the point that it no longer runs. This is not an isolated incident. Numerous owners of 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine have reported identical failures. There is significant public documentation of this defect, including technical service bulletins, owner complaints, and ongoing litigation alleging that Ford knew of the defect. The issue appears to stem from the engine block design rather than normal wear and tear or poor maintenance. This defect presents a serious safety concern. An engine can begin misfiring or lose power unexpectedly while driving, increasing the risk of being stranded in traffic or involved in a collision.

Took to established repair center who notified us the engine had a common problem with this year/model Ford where the coolant leaks into the engine block. Total engine replacement is only option. We were told Ford knows about this but is doing nothing about it. Also told if we were to continue driving it it would likely cause catastrophic engine failure, possibly while driving. 143,000 miles. Ford should be held criminally responsible for the loss of the vehicle if no assistance is offered. Repair or monetary.

The diagnosis appears consistent with the known Ford 2.0L EcoBoost coolant intrusion/coolant-in-cylinder issue. I was told the engine may need replacement, estimated around $10,000. Ford opened case CXH-08391857 but advised there is no active recall or financial assistance because the vehicle is out of warranty. I am reporting this because an engine misfire/possible stall condition may create a safety concern.

Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge Titanium, 2.0L EcoBoost, AWD Mileage at Incident: ~90,000 (mountain 2 lane canyon road steep cliffs and very little pull off space) Description of Problem: While driving uphill on a 2-lane mountain road, my vehicle displayed “Engine Coolant Over Temperature” (and related engine heat) warnings. The temperature gauge rose rapidly, engine power was severely limited (could not exceed ~40 mph even with full throttle), and pink coolant fluid was visibly boiling and gushing from the reservoir/overflow tank. I immediately pulled over safely. After cooling for 2–3 hours, the vehicle restarted and completed the climb with lighter driving, but the incident was dangerous due to reduced power on a winding mountain road with oncoming traffic. Coolant pump, relays, fuses, and oil was checked and showed no milky contamination or issues at the time. Some white exhaust and smell was present at the time. This matches the well-known coolant intrusion defect in 2015–2018 Ford 2.0L EcoBoost engines (see TSB 19-2346), where coolant leaks internally into cylinders, causing overheating, misfires, and potential sudden engine failure. Mechanics initially found no issue on a cold check, which is common with this intermittent problem. Purchased the vehicle from a local dealership with 80k miles. Less than 5 months later, we’re being told that we need a new engine due to coolant leaking into to the engine.

I have the 2.0 EcoBoost. I had my check engine light come on XXX. I went to AutoZone in [XXX] to have the code checked. They told me it was a cylinder 1 misfire. The code read as an ignition coil. I thought it was no big deal because of the mileage and thought it was time for coils and plugs. Friday June 12, 2026, I started my car to go to work and I turned on my defroster because it was foggy out. 15 minutes into my drive to work, I noticed I had no heat. I got to work, checked under my hood and noticed my coolant reservoir was empty. I got the approved coolant for my car and put a whole gallon into the reservoir and it filled it up between the min/max line. XXX, at the end of the day, I checked again and my reservoir was empty. It has been idling rough when starting either cold or warmed up. This coolant intrusion problem is a major safety issue because it can cause catastrophic engine failure and even engine fires. I bought it used and couldn’t afford the warranty but being a design defect, Ford should be held responsible for the remedy, not just issue an optional TSB and leave unsuspecting drivers buying a used car from a certified dealer with the risk of paying for another new car or engine replacement. I am writing to express my concern with how Ford is handling Safety Recall 25S89. I have had numerous incidents where the camera has failed when backing up and have photos to document these instances. I brought my 2017 Edge to the dealership today and was told that it did not need replacement. So, it's "safe" to have the camera display a blank screen some of the time? I would think that the rationale behind a backup camera is that it is safe 100% of the time or it should be replaced. If a part fails only some of the time, is it considered a safe part per the NHTSA? I would really appreciate hearing back from someone at NHTSA on this issue and perhaps there needs to be review with Ford on how this is being handled.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
