So the ecoboost engine in my 2017 ford edge has coolant intrusion in #1 cylinder at about 120,000mi which apparently is a known defect and happening to many others with ecoboost engines from 2015 to 2018. Yes available for inspection upon request. Safety? I don't know what happens if I keep driving which I have to because the recommended fix is a replacement engine which is $8,050. I've read many other comments from other people who are also stuck paying for a vehicle they can't or shouldn't be driving. Yes confirmed by a dealership service department. No not inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representative. Yes check engine light came on months ago when first checked out by same dealer was told I needed a powertrain control module. Please make ford take responsibility for this. Everyday people can not afford this and leaves us basically screwed.

Bad purge valve, car wouldn't start. Code P1450
The panoramic roof has a stress crack. We went on vacation in our other vehicle. The Ford Edge was in my garage that June when we went. We came home, I washed the Ford Edge two days later and noticed the stress crack in the panoramic roof.
2017 Ford Edge 2.0 Ecoboost engine failed. Car is 6 years old and two shops have confirmed it needs to be totally replaced due to coolant intrusion. Currently still drivable, but is burning through Coolant and per dealership can be a fire hazard. Confirmed by Ford dealership. Check engine light turned on and car has 72,000 miles.

I have a 2017 Ford Edge, and the check engine light came on while driving. Per the Ford dealership service dept, there is an internal coolant leak into cylinder #2 causing engine to misfire. Also, coolant is mixing with the oil. I was told I need a new engine. Ford dealership said they were seeing many others with the same issue. Please hold Ford accountable. This is creating a serious financial hardship for me and countless others.
I bought a brand new Ford Edge in 2017 with a warranty of 5 years and 60,000 miles. Several weeks ago, my car turned the engine light on and began having difficulty staying on during idle time and at stop signs. Immediately, I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem of a leakage of coolant into the cylinders. They quoted me for an amount greater than the trade in value of the vehicle. From my online research, other customers are having the same leakage recurrent issue for Ford Edges between 2016-2023. The dealer could not tell me the reason behind this leakage causing the engine to overheat. This coolant leakage happening to a lot of their vehicles is putting individuals in danger of fire, explosion, or the vehicle stopping at any movement even while driving. There is absolutely no indication that this leakage was caused by poor maintenance or excessive wear and tear, and this is a recurring issue on their cars. I am afraid to drive the vehicle and cause an explosion or a fire on the road. However, Ford dealerships across the country are sending individuals on their way with defective engines without addressing the reason why new cars are having coolant leakage and having to replace the entire engine. It is Ford's responsibility to acknowledge defective parts and stop putting customers in danger. The component Ford is saying needs repair is the long block and it can be available for inspection if needed.
The motor is liking oil to block and smoke come out from the back. And it lose power. The insurance said the a manufacturer defolte. I have paid $2000.00 for insurance and now the companies or the insurance want to fix it. Please help me.
Had oil change on [XXX]. [XXX] check engine light intermittently came on, vehicle runs rough and rattling noise under vehicle, then vehicle was blowing smoke out of exhaust. Took to dealership ran oasis TSB[XXX]. Found that underbody shield was loose from worn retainers. Also, removed spark plugs found coolant present in multiple cylinders. Required engine replacement. Ford Service bulletin 22- gave specific instructions on oil changes to this model vehicle to avoid this issue. My cousin in Roanoke VA has the same 2017 Ford Edge and had the same issue resulting in complete engine replacement. Also heard several other people in different areas had same issue of coolant present in cylinders with their Ford Edge. The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal rattling sound heard. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the flex plate had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under Ford Campaign Number: 22N12 because the vehicle had exceeded the mileage limitation. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
My check engine light came on, took it to the dealer for an inspection, The code was p0302, miss firing of Cylinder 2. The dealer did the inspection and I was told I need a new engine because the coolant is leaking into my engine and there is no way to fix it unless, i get a whole new engine. Ford told me I could keep driving the car until the check engine light flashes at me, when that happens the car is dead. I google this issue and it turns out there is an issue with the ford engine that is 2.0 liter Ecoboost, but there is no recall on the engine, which is something major and a car with only 35,000 should not need a new engine.
The check engine light went on so I took it to the Ford Dealership. They couldn't find an immediate problem so they scheduled me for an appointment the next week. I dropped the car off today and they had it all day, finally dropping the bombshell that there was a coolant leak into cylinder 2 and I need an entirely new engine for $7k or I could sell my car and buy a new one. I'm still in shock and am doing research and apparently this is a HUGE documented problem: [XXX] and [XXX] I have been saving money to take my [XXX] parents and my 13 and 9 year old sons to Ireland in July and I am beside myself because now I can't afford it. Please don't let Ford get away with this. My car is 6 years old with 70k miles on it, I shouldn't need a new engine. Have check engine light on . Saying bad purge solenoid. Replaced it. Light still came on. When I get fuel the suv bucks and stalls for a bit. Checked with a buddy at Ford motor company. Stated they know of the problem with it. But don't have a solution. Being an a.s.e. tech myself. And reading up on this. I see ford did recall the focus for this same issue. Why have they not recalled others vehicles like mine. This could be a VERY BAD SAFETY HAZARD. when a person is filling there car the extra fuel is now going into the fuel evap system, backwards. So it's filling up as system that is meant only for fumes. If something in this system shorts out or have a internal engine back fire from this extra fuel. It could potentially cause a explosion in the fuel system and with a full tank of fuel that would not have a happy ending. The nhtsa Must get on ford to fix this problem asap.
Fuel filler neck housing leaking causing an EVAP control system issue.

Check engine light keeps turning on and off, took it to Ford to get diagnosed. There’s a coolant leak into the cylinder 2 causing a misfire and a cracked gasket. Whole engine needs to be replaced to fix this issue, over $6500 worth of repairs that I cannot afford and Ford won’t help with costs. My car is still currently drivable but isn’t safe to drive long distance as it could break at any time while I have myself and 16 month old child in the vehicle. I have a website with other Ford Edge owners having the same engine issue and needing to replace them. This is the link; [XXX] Please hold Ford accountable to announce a recall on the engine. My 2017 Ford Edge sport is having the same known adaptive steering issues that were covered on the previous two year models. I’ve received the warning light twice now that the adaptive steering system is initializing and I have to turn the car off or Manually select the ok option to acknowledge the msg. Nothing else happened or was obviously noticeable with the first time the light came on. Couple weeks later I had parked at a gas station 5 min from my house was out of my car less than couple min back in my car there’s no lights on to warn me of Anything when I start my car but once I pulled out into the road my steering wheel was at an obvious left turn position in order to be able to drive the car forward. I was less Than .69 miles from my house once on the road I made three total left hand turns to get to my home. And home the left last left hand turn into my driveway the steering wheel did something awkward and somehow corrected it’s self while pulling into my driveway and I parked then before turning off the car it started flashing again now this was the second time total I saw adaptive cruise initializing. Ive not gotten any other warning Info at all and the car hasn’t said or displayed any service due or required on anything just initializing and that’s it. I turned the car off and it’s been two days and hasn’t repeated anything. Yet. But the characteristics of my issue are an exact description of same car same model recall but not showing recalled for 2017 that. Can f
Coolant in engine. Purchased used, put 3500 miles on car. Now 110208. Sitting at ford dealer, waiting for response from dealer who sold it to us with known issues. Took car in because heater was not working. There were not any warning lights on.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant loss. The dealer performed a coolant pressure test and determined that coolant was leaking into the head gasket. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer for the recurring failure; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer had previously replaced the spark plugs, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 27,425.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the engine temperature gauge stated that the engine was overheated. Upon inspection it was discovered that the coolant level was low. Coolant was added but the failure reoccurred approximately one week later. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who determined that coolant had leaked into the cylinder and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 80,000.
I have a 2017 Ford Edge with a 2.0 Ecoboost motor that was recently diagnosed (by Ford) as needing a new engine due to Coolant Intrusion into cylinder #4. The car has only 57,000 miles and is said to have a known manufacturing defect that causes this. Fortunately I reported this issue to the dealer before it got too severe; however I've been told that the car can catch on fire due to overheating or stop altogether on the freeway because of this issue. From what I've also read Ford has numerous cars equipped with this engine and have thousands of complaints regarding it, though they refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. I therefore would like to report the situation to the NHTSA out of an abundance of caution for myself, family, and other motorists that could be impacted by this.
Driving my car this year in April 2023. My car overheated while driving. I pulled over and checked the coolant it was bone dry, thankfully I had more in my car which I refilled. I brought my car to a friend that was a mechanic and he told me my coolant was leaking into the cylinder. I brought it to the Ford dealership to confirm his findings. I was told the same thing along with I need a nrw engine. I bought the car in Feb 2021 paid 17,000. It had 75000 miles on it. I haven't been able to get it repaired I was quoated around $5600. Ford has thousands of unhappy consumers in the same situation with needing a new engine. Ford will not do a recall and they kept selling cars with faulty engines. 2015-2018 Ford Edge and other models. This is not fair to thier customers!!!!!
When got into a fender bender, originally it was just the bumper. After a wheel, there was a noise coming from the car when idling. Once taken in for repair, repair company stated it was the AC fan that was the problem which was not done by the crash but elsewhere. After taking the place to three other shops, first being the repair company, the second being Ford Motors, which both told me it was okay to drive my car, the last shop confirmed that it was the flywheel and not the AC fan that was broke, and I shouldn't be driving my car. After my car was fixed, out of pocket, I get sent the recall information letter in June for Ford Motors to fix this problem in February.

Our 2017 Ford Edge experienced engine problems that are linked to a service recall Ford Motor Company issued on 2016 - 2018 Ford Edge vehicles related to coolant leaks & head gasket failures. Ford is refusing to fully cover costs to replace the engine which was inspected by an authorized Ford Dealership service department & determined to have coolant entering engine cylinder. Providing clear evidence that the engine is failing under the same pretense as the recall issued by Ford. Out of pocket costs to replace were $4,833.12 paid to McMullen Ford. We are seeking reimbursement of out of pocket costs.
The component that failed was the long block and is currently available for inspection. The date when the issue 1st appeared was Nov 20 2023. The issue has since been isolated as a coolant leak in my cylinders and Ford is very aware of the issue and has a TSB 22-2229 discussing some of the symptoms. The coolant intrusion compromised the motors ability to react to demand for power. The vehicle shakes while idling and has faltered when trying to gain entry onto on-ramps for I-20. The failure of the vehicle to meet the power requirements asked of it to merge and the sudden loss of power nearly left my vehicle rear ended with both my toddler and my teenager present. The check engine light illuminated showing a code of P0301 for a cylinder 1 miss-fire. All 4 spark plugs were replaced in an attempt to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again within 48 hours after the repair was made. During the next inspection the coolant level was noted as low. Coolant was added at that time and cylinder 1 coil pack was replaced to fix the issue. The check engine light came on again and coolant was once again low within 48 hours of the 2nd repair. Ford’s service bulletin TSB 22-2229 addressing the known coolant intrusion issue for the 2015-mid 2019 Ford Edge was presented as the needed repair. This engine failure poses a risk for the car owner, occupants, and surrounding bystanders. It has a fire risk, power failure risk, and quite possible a loss of life risk. Repairs will be made by t
Coolant leaking into engine cylinder. Vehicle only has 53,000 miles on it. Needs new engine. Going to be like $8,000. Not sure how they can expect middle class to pay for what they’ve done wrong. I have personally only put 4,000 miles on it. Purchased it in July.
Transmission, coolant infusion to engine Emissions, long block torqu converter failed even though i had multiple appointments to have this and the other recalls done they always canceled the appointments due to lack of parts or they were backed up in the service department. I had the majority of all (the works) oil changes done at the dealership unless they were weeks out, I complained of engine running hot and knocking sounds back in 2021, needed to be jumped every few months 2022 I was always told this was normal for a edge ecoboost with the cold weather package, they did check the battery which was fine, when the engine light came on I took it right in only to be told to make a appointment, soon after I started to lose power going up sm hills, I was told I needed new tires after this oil change and I even ended up with a nail in my time from their repair shop, 3 weeks later no engine light denied my appointment, tried to show codes from local repair shop i waa told its normal make a appointment, i questioned if its safe to drive i was told yes absolutely engine light back on the next day took it back in again told to make a appointment 2.5 weeks later no engine light on but I showed them the codes I was pulling for miss firing that I pulled multiple times at different intervals when I felt something was wrong but they didn't have a appointment to check themselves i was then told my computer reader was not accepted due to inaccurate readings made yet another attempt for a ap
While driving our engine light came on, we took it to our mechanic and they determined that anti-freeze was low and possibly leaking into the engine. It is causing a misfire cylinder 1 and the time before cylinder 3. I read of similar problems with other peoples 2017 Edge. I don't want to have to replace my engine.
After putting gas in the vehicle, the vehicle was acting sluggish. It did not want to start and after it did it wasn't going full speed. I proceeded to leave the gas station and no sooner did the vehicle started to sputter and 'died' while making a U-turn. I am afraid that this will cause in accident if not remedied. I don't understand that off the Ford Focus was having this issue why is this not on recall for this vehicle. I will be calling and writing to Ford on this issue. I would like this to be mentioned and I took my vehicle to Yeoman Ford of The Villages in Belleview. This is disgraceful how a part can be defective and yet not covered in another vehicle with the same issue. I would like for A Supervisor to help with this problem to please and thank you.
Twice this weekend, when I parking on a steep driveway, I put the shift lever into the park position, I turned off the vehicle and began to exit the vehicle. When I released my foot pressure on the brake pedal, the Ford Edge began to roll backward. I had to reapply pressure to the brake pedal and then engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle from rolling. I understand that in June 2022 Ford issued a recall for almost 3 million vehicles including 509K Ford Edge models (between the years of 2015 - 2018), however my vin number was not included in the recall - [XXX] . - Yes, my safety and the safety of others was put at risk. - I am waiting to hear back from the dealership to schedule an appointment - No one has inspected the vehicle components yet (waiting to hear back from dealership to take the vehicle in) - There were no warning indications of any potential problem prior to my experience yesterday Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and instructions on how I should proceed. Transmission developed a very hard first to second shift and drive to reverse sounded like the transmission had fallen out of the car. I have Fords blue oval warranty and my car has been at the dealer for 6 weeks now. I was only provided a loaner for 10 days.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 70 MPH and approaching an exit, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to engage. As a result, the driver crashed into a vehicle in front that was stopped at a red light. The air bag deployed. No warning light was illuminated. A police report was filed. There was a six-year-old daughter occupant seated at the rear driver's at the time of the failure. Both received minor abrasions. The driver had a seat belt abrasion on her collarbone. The daughter had a seatbelt abrasion in the lower abdomen. Medical treatment was needed and both received blood tests to make sure there was no damage to the liver. The vehicle was towed to a lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Coolant leaks in to the motor totally ruining the motor, overheating and leaving people on the side of the road. In some cases catching on fire. There has been lemon cases filed and class action lawsuits. Families are left without a vehicle and ruined credit due to not being able to replace motors and other parts needed out of pocket. Ford needs to be held reliable!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, there was a loud bang and the contact saw broken glass entering the interior of the vehicle. After a visual inspection of the exterior of the vehicle, the contact became aware that the sunroof glass had shattered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V205000 (Structure), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 68,000.

The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,194.
My vehicle's check engine light came on, so I took it to my dealer. They took a look and they said they found that the coolant was down. Upon further diagnosis, my vehicle needs a new engine. This is a know problem with the 2.0 Ecoboost engine. I found a TSB on this problem through the nhtsa.gov website, which tells me they know there is a problem. I contacted Ford and because I do not have a history of purchasing new vehicles, they couldn't offer any good will financial assistance. I am more than willing to help pay for some of the repair, as is my dealer. Ford knows that there is a problem with this engine, and will not help correct it. It has created a very difficult financial situation for my family, as I have 3 young children.
My 2017 ford edge started running rough and almost dying. Low rpms. The engine cracked allowing antifreeze to leak into the cylinders causing it to miss and overheat. Ford put out a service bulletin TSB#22-2229 addressing the "coolant intrusion" problem. So far they have not issued a recall.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to shudder and made an abnormal sound from the engine compartment before briefly losing motive power. However, after releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that coolant intrusion had caused a failure in cylinder #2. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis and recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered a misfire in cylinder #3, as well as a minor oil leak. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the check engine and coolant warning lights both flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic where it was discovered that the coolant level was low due to coolant leak into cylinder #3. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure; however, the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Faulty head / head gasket allowed water intrusion into the cylinder.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
